The 2012 Sundance Film Festival kicked off last Thursday and our coverage continues with the selection LUV.

LUV is directed by Sheldon Candis and has an all-star cast including: Charles S. Dutton, Common, Dennis Haysbert, Meagan Good and Michael K. Williams.

The film tells the story of an 11-year-old (Michael Rainey Jr.) who discovers unpleasant truths about his uncle (Common) when his uncle takes him out of school for a day to get a dose of reality. Check the trailer below:

The 2012 Sundance Film Festival kicked off last Thursday in Utah and I'm bringing you the features that spark my interest throughout the week. Sundance seeks to discover and support independent film and theatre artists and introduce audiences to their work. We'll kick off coverage with the selection Life and Freaky Times of Uncle Luke.

As expected, the film depicts Luke’s rise to fame as he impacts the hip-hop game and makes a stand for first amendment rights. The film then takes a fictional turn as Luke brings Miami into prosperity after becoming Mayor. Check out the trailer below:

'RED TAILS' PROVES STUDIO EXECS WRONG

Director George Lucas recently hit the Daily Show to promote Red Tails and spoke about the difficulty he had obtaining studio backing for one of the first all-black action films. To get the movie released Lucas financed the project himself—spending $58 million for production and $35 million on distribution costs.

Fortunately, Lucas' interview spread like wild fire across all news mediums and the buzz helped drive movie-goers to theaters this weekend. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Red Tails grossed $6 million on Friday for a projected $16 million weekend.

Amber Rose dropped her single, "Fame," featuring boyfriend Wiz Khalifa today. Honestly, it sounds like it could be a theme song she recorded for her reality show—which has yet to be greenlit. I mean, it has nothing on the intro to Braxton Family Values, but it'll do!

She released the song just one week after stirring up controversy by telling the world that Kanye West cheated on her with Kim Kardashian. I'm sure her sharing this personal story was not part of the publicity plan for rolling out the new single. Anywho, take a listen below and let me know what you think:

CELEB PAPARAZZI GET PAID - IS IT WORTH IT?

I checked out paparazzi documentaries Teenage Paparazzo and Smash His Camera over the weekend to cross them off of my to-do list.

One takeaway was the stark contrast between the money that veteran Ron Galella took home for his celeb shots back in the day and the bank that 13 year-old Austin Visschedyk was taking home during the filming of Teenage Paparazzo. Austin was commanding an impressive $500 to $1,000 per photo for his celeb shots in 2009.

Although $500 to $1,000 for one picture sounds like good money, the paps can command much more for their pics by spending hours waiting to get candid shots of celebs having a bad hair day, wearing no makeup or dating someone new.

For example, the pictures of a bald Britney Spears going mad on an SUV with her umbrella (2007) and the first pics of a visibly pregnant Angelina Jolie (2006) went for $500,000.

Full time paps devote their lives to stakeouts and tips--the possibility to bank so much money explains why the paps are willing to endanger their lives and the lives of others in order to get celeb footage.

At the end of the day, I think it is easy to look down on the paparazzi and their antics, but as long as we keep pop culture and celebrity at the heart of our society, their actions have justification and they have purpose.

Jersey Shore cast member Vinny Guadagnino participated in the Coney Island Polar Bear Club’s annual New Year’s Day Swim. This time Vinny wasn't hitting the beach to get his tan on...he did it to raise money for a local charity.

He was spotted preparing for the run by popping some Cold-EEZE before jumping into chilly waters to help raise money for the children’s charity Camp Sunshine.

This was a very timely appearance nonetheless. Season 5 of the Jersey Shore is set to premiere on January 5^th on MTV.
