Thursday’s meeting will focus on developing a strategy for the upcoming year’s programing. Karen’s survey will serve as a starting point.

The first hour will be a photo shoot on the Audubon Grounds. Although you might come up with a competition photo, the primary goal is for people to shoot outside of their comfort zone. Our hope is that this will direct your thoughts about programs you feel you would enjoy and would improve your skills as a photographer. Shoot in manual mode, use your least favorite lens, choose less than optimal lighting…..

We’ll spend the latter portion of the meeting doing round table brain-storming directed toward developing programs that the majority of members will enjoy and find useful. Hopefully, your experience during the shoot will help you identify at least one program that you’d find helpful in your quest as a photographer .

To begin, lets postpone getting hung up on details and focus on programing for the total year. As a first go around… can we come up with twelve specific programs… if yes, lets pare it down to the best nine.

Some programs that seemed successful in the past: displaying prints, off camera flash, macro, models, studio lighting, post processing, … (do we want to repeat any… can we add more to the list)

If time and energy permits, we can systematically get into the specifics about each program.

The QVPC Annual Potluck Banquet will be held on Sunday, June 10th at 5:00 at the Audubon Center. Tickets are available at the door or at the May 17th meeting. Price of tickets: $5 for Adults and $3 for Seniors (60 +) or students. The ticket price helps us to defray the cost of the wonderful program this year entitled “Celebrating Nature and Wildlife” which will be presented by Ligia Dovale-Kiamco. As many of you know, Ligia has traveled far and wide and is an award winning photographer. If any of you have viewed her Facebook page or her website, you’ve seen some amazing images.
We ask each club member to bring a main dish and a dessert or appetizer, the club will provide beverages. We will have a raffle as usual, donation of a raffle item in the price range of $10 to $15 will be deeply appreciated. Suggestions: Bottle of Wine, 6-pack Beer, Photography Book, Gift Certificate from local pizza place or restaurant, grocery store gift card, gas gift card….whatever…just something small that you might like getting yourself.

We look forward to seeing you and meeting your friends and family. The program promises to be spectacular!!! Start the summer off with a party and promise of photography outtings throughout the warm, sunny days of July and August.

Congrats again, It was great to be a part of the club to finally knock PSRI of the top podium spot. They’ll be aiming for revenge next year, so we need to put forth a strong effort to hold our position on top.

The second portion of the program (approx 1 hour) will be a roundtable discussion focusing on specific ways the program committee can meet the educational needs of the club during the upcoming year. We hope to establish a very informal summer series which focuses on the fundamentals of photography by sharing and learning from each other.

Bring a camera and whatever you need to make an image. If you think you need help in a specific area there is a high probability someone else does too, and it is likely someone may have a solution. We’re looking forward to a great year of learning.

We will have our usual categories ~ Nature, Open and Novice ~ . Also, the subject categories for the month of April are Rhode Island, Glamour and_________

We were unable to get a judge for this competition so we will do a general member critique of images and have members select a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and HM. Selections will be made by a show of hands. We will not score points for this event.

This is a unique opportunity for members to feel free to ask questions about lighting, composition, exposure, post processing and anything else that may come up during discussion about an image. While we do have some time constraints (as some folks do have to get up the next day for work), you can be relaxed and know that all questions are welcome and know that if you have a particular question,
someone else in the room most likely has that same question so don’t be afraid to ask.

Refreshments are being provided by Laura Vear.

Tonight we will go through the 25 subject categories and select 1 image from each category that will best represent QVPC at the April 28th Five Club Multiscreen Competition.

This is a fun competition and the first year that we have competed with 5 clubs. This is how it works:

All 5 clubs have the same 25 topics to shoot images for. On competition night we will have 5 projectors and 5 screens set up. The first topic will be displayed on all five screens. It is always very interesting to see each club’s interpretation of the topic. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s abstract and most always the image is great technical quality and very interesting. Each image is given a score from 1 to 5. Once all topics have been displayed and scored, the club with the lowest score (the most 1′s) wins.

The club hosting the event ~ this year it is Seven Hills Camera Club from Worcester ~ provides refreshments and gives out the ribbons. Only 1st place ribbons are given in each category.

We have placed 2nd in the last few years but never come in 1st….seems to be PSRI is the team to beat!! This year may be different as we are competing with 4 other clubs.

So….come help us to select our best images. Also, if you would like to attend the competition we will have a sign up sheet for carpooling.

Refreshments tonight are being brought by Victor Boomer

PLEASE start putting your images for the MultiScreen competition in the folders in the Dropbox. We need to see which catagories need to be worked on in the next few weeks. If you can’t use Dropbox, e-mail them to Susan Buell (srbuell@yahoo.com) or bring them to a meeting on a cd or flashdrive. Just remember all images must have been taken since May 1st of last year. If your camera’s date is not set correctly, the picture data will be wrong when it’s opened so double check that to be sure the image is not eliminated because it the date taken is wrong.
