The European Commission has preliminarily found TikTok in breach of the Digital Services Act (DSA) for the so-called ‘rabbit hole effect’ of its recommender system.

TikTok’s ‘For You’ feed shows users a continuous stream of personalised videos, even when those are related to mental health struggles and body image.

The more a user interacts with a certain type of content, the more TikTok’s ‘For You’ feed algorithm recommends similar content. This design can be harmful when such endless and repeated exposure involves, for example, content about sadness, isolation or body image. These ‘rabbit holes’ can have a detrimental impact on users’ mental health, especially that of vulnerable adults and minors.

These preliminary findings focus on both risk assessment and mitigation measures

A North Carolina couple is suing Google, claiming that the Gemini AI installed on a school-issued Chromebook laptop helped their 13-year-old daughter plan her suicide attempt.

“Unknown to her parents, Emma had spent the last several months in the thrall of Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, which had coached Emma on how to commit suicide and plan her own funeral,” the lawsuit says, referring to a victim identified under the pseudonym Emma Doe. “Emma’s parents had no idea that she even had access to Gemini—or any chatbot—because Emma’s only access to Gemini was through the Chromebook she was required to use for school.”

In a 69-page complaint, the Daily News, Chicago Tribune and Orlando Sentinel accused Brave of copying copyrighted articles and distributing their content through its Brave Search API, a service that allows AI companies to retrieve web content for use in their products. The filing identifies Anthropic, Perplexity, Mistral, xAI and Cohere among companies that have used Brave’s services.

The newspapers cite several examples of Brave’s AI search tool, Ask Brave, allegedly reproducing substantial portions of their reporting.

“AI giants are now desperate to avoid getting caught red-handed stealing news from publishers, so Brave Software is selling them a back door to the journalism they know they have no right to,” Steven Lieberman, an attorney representing the Daily News, Chicago Tribune and Orlando Sentinel, said in a statement. “Buying stolen goods secondhand doesn’t make them legitimate.”

Crissy Field analysed over 159k Lovable projects captured by the Common Crawl web archive between December 2025 and September 2026.

Of those, just over 34k used Supabase, a popular database service, while 24k returned database records without requiring users to log in.

Further analysis found that 7,403 of those websites — around 30% — contained accessible records with email addresses, although researchers cautioned that these could include publicly available information or test data.

Some of the more serious findings included a German lifestyle forum exposing more than 80k user profiles and 200k private chat messages, and a service provider whose database contained more than 1,000 records featuring passport numbers, nationalities and identity document details.

“At the moment, we have more compute capacity than we have demand, and we have a lot of the tokens and processing power being given away in freemium solutions,” he told CNBC. “Everyone in the AI race is running for a last-man standing position. Pretty much every market that Gartner is tracking in our AI race is likely to collapse down to a duopoly.”

That duopoly for the main commercial frontier models consists of Anthropic and OpenAI. The computing-power asset base that’s being constructed by neoclouds to serve that duopoly requires a degree of cash flow for those businesses that isn’t yet scaling in proportion to the investment, Lovelock said.

Neoclouds would not be going out of business en masse, Lovelock reiterated, but could be subject to consolidation, such as takeovers and mergers.

As a result of their profitability analysis, Gartner predicted last week that 80% of neoclouds, which are AI-dedicated computing power providers, could cease functioning as independent companies.

In their Wednesday report, Gartner researchers found that overall “AI revenue will be insufficient to support profitable returns on all planned AI capital expenditures” between 2027 and 2030.

Google announced Tuesday that early next year it would turn off artificial intelligence tools in its popular software for K-12 students, unless school administrators explicitly choose to make such tools available.
