Madonna 2012 World Tour

The announcement of Madonna's 2012 World Tour follows an extraordinary week which included an extravaganza of a performance at the Super Bowl Halftime show, which was seen in over 200 countries by over a billion people.

Last week also saw the release of Madonna's new single, 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' from her highly anticipated new album MDNA - scheduled to be released on March 26th.

The Madonna 2012 World Tour kicks off on May 29th in Tel Aviv and comes to the UK in London’s Hyde Park on July 17th and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium on July 21st. Catch her comeback performances as a VIP this July.

One To Watch - Emeli Sande

Emeli Sande is without doubt our favourite new artist of 2011. Having spent the past two years collaborating on and writing tracks for other artists, she is now making headlines as a solo artist in her own right.

Possessing a very distinct vocal, many will already know her from the instantly recognisable debut single 'Heaven' which was released in August of this year and reached a very impressive number #2 on the singles chart.

All this is a far cry from Sande’s initial pursuit studying medicine at the University of Glasgow, before finally making a breakthrough into music. She has since penned three tracks for Alicia Keys, and also written for Leona Lewis, Tinie Tempah, Cheryl Cole and even Susan Boyle to name a few.

With so much talent on evidence, Emeli soon signed with Virgin Records in 2010 and a publishing deal with EMI quickly ensued.

Constantly on the airwaves with ‘Heaven’, Emeli also prominently features on Professor Green’s #1 hit 'Read All About It' Her second single 'Daddy' ft Naughty Boy will be out later this month. If you haven’t already heard of her, you certainly will in the coming months.

One To Watch: Peter Grant

Having initially cut his teeth singing in the clubs and bars in and around his native Yorkshire, Peter Grant signed to Universal at the tender age of sixteen and just two weeks later, was recording at Abbey Road studios.

Peter went on to release two albums with the label, drawing comparisons to legends such as Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. New Vintage went on to sell more than 200,000 copies going straight into the Top Ten.

Peter decided to leave Universal despite a third album offer – this time to pursue his dream of writing and recording an album of his own material. It is perhaps Harry Connick Jr who inspired this move, having once said to Peter, "You have to make music because you love it and for no other reason.”

In early 2009 Peter met record producer Andy Wright (Imelda May, Simply Red) who took him under his wing and invited him to write and record with him in his own Sphere Studios in Battersea.

For the first time Peter had the freedom to write about being young, about the experiences in his life so far and together they started honing Peter’s own unique sound and thus his debut album Too Close was born.

Too Close is an album for everyone. Big songs with soaring vocals and incredible string arrangements by the legendary Peter Vitesse. The album has many highlights including title track ‘Too Close’ (already on the BBC Radio 2 playlist), ‘Take It To The Roof’, ‘Soldiers’ which was co-written with Mark Hudson (Aerosmith, Ringo Starr), ‘Better Days’, and the closing track of the album ‘Dear Friend’.

Watch out for single ‘Too Close’, which is available for download on 25th September.

Aida comes to the Royal Albert Hall 2012

This epic work explores the devastating consequences of a classic love triangle between Aida the Ethiopian slave girl, the King's daughter, Amneris, and Captain of the Guard, Radames. As the opera draws to its tragic close, this intense drama gave Verdi the perfect opportunity to compose some of his most poignant arias and powerful music.

For this entirely new staging, Stephen Medcalf (director) and Isabella Bywater (set and costumes design) will team up to recreate a world of eternal love within the ruins of Ancient Egypt. Staged in-the-round, the action will unfold in the very heart of the Royal Albert Hall. An international cast will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrew Greenwood.

Guitars are extremely desirable creations and with collectors and players alike now focusing on the bespoke build rather than the vintage market (think les Pauls, 60 year-old Stratocasters and Telecasters) there has never been a better time to invest in a modern instrument.

The guitars of the 20th century were mass-produced commodities in contrast to the hand-built tradition of the classical instrument. However, the past thirty years or so have seen a turn away from the “cookie-cutter”, production line instrument, with guitarists now that much more discerning in their tastes. With this trend comes a closer relationship with the buyer, helping them to find that perfect, one-of-a-kind inspirational instrument.

Obviously people collect guitars, not only because of their visual beauty but also for their sound and versatility. And it is my opinion (born of many years of personal experience as a player, collector and dealer) that modern luthier-built guitars are in many cases greatly superior to those being pumped out of the big name factories. It is the difference between “dining” at a fast food joint and a meal at Mosimann’s. The attention to detail, the human touch and experience, all of these things elevate the modern guitar to new heights.

And that’s inspiring.

Let’s face it, playing a truly great guitar is a wonderful feeling – it’s difficult to put the thing down! It’s also extremely rewarding in that you improve as a player without even noticing it. A truly responsive instrument will guide you, inspire you and teach you.

One To Watch - Missing Andy

Missing Andy are Essex born and bred and extremely proud of it.

The five-piece are part of today’s growing disenfranchised youth and their ‘fist in the air’ songs deal with thorny social issues that a lot of other bands choose to shy away from.

Their thought provoking lyrics and their swaggering stance is cut from the same cloth as The Jam and The Clash, with an air of The Specials, making their sound a contradiction of modern nostalgia, fuelled by angst-ridden aggression.

Mod requiem ‘Kings For The Weekend’ is an anthemic, no frills behemoth of a song with its pile-driving rhythms and the super burst of crashing guitars.

The single will be available to download from the 3rd July, and their debut album will be released later this year.

The star lot must be the Pink Floyd signed Fender Stratocaster American Classic, individually painted by the visual mastermind behind The Dark Side of The Moon, Ian Emes. The finished guitar features the iconic artwork from the ‘Time’ sequence. The pickguard is currently travelling the globe gathering signatures from all the members of Pink Floyd's line up - Roger Waters, David Gilmour, and Nick Mason, whilst the guitar body spent its time in Ian Emes’ studio being painted by the artist himself. Collectible guitars are an investment in themselves but, for a Pink Floyd fan and/or a collector, this guitar is the ultimate - it will never be repeated.

One To Watch - Fitz & The Tantrums

LA six-piece, Fitz & The Tantrums, are our new office favourite. Their truly infectious music is influenced from a variety of eras and genres, but until you rush off to hear them for yourselves, we’ll describe their sound as ‘soul driven with a 21st century twist’.

Their bold instrument preferences include an organ player instead of a guitarist and together with the mix of male-indie and gritty female-rnb vocals, this band is making the most unique music we’ve heard in a long while.

Dangerbird Records signed the band in 2010 and their album, Pickin’ Up The Pieces, went to number 2 in Billboard Heartseekers chart. They’ve toured with the likes of Maroon 5 and have even shared the stage with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.

We were lucky enough to catch the band at the Borderline last week and it’s safe to say that live is where this band really comes alive – delivering an explosion of floor-stompers from the upbeat rhythms of standout track ‘Breaking the Chains of Love’ to the banging ‘Dear. Mr President’. Scaggs is the ‘hype girl’ of the group, who adds attitude, soul and electricity to the performance.
