Electronic Jenga removes sneezing frustration

Isn't the whole point of Jenga to have to be extra careful? And doesn't part of the satisfaction come from watching as someone else makes the whole tower come tumbling down? We all know I love my electronics, but come on, this is pushing it a bit, especially considering it comes with a "realistic" Jenga component that you carefully slide in. I can see this being great for parents who don't want to step on the loose Jenga pieces in the middle of the night....and for those who are notorious for bumping the table....but come on....

Mmm, cake. Cakewrecks is known for its huge collection of absolutely disastrous cake attempts, but one of my favorite parts is actually the Sunday Sweets series where stunning cakes are featured instead. This particular post has several board games and it'll really send you down Memory Lane if you haven't played a board game in a while. Even if you have, you'll likely still be in awe at the work some of these cake creators put in.

"Liquid" pool table top, Obscura CueLight system

You didn't think I was going to talk about just video games all month, did you? You've gotta check out the link, though. This $200,000 pool table includes an overhead projector (yeah, I was fooled at first, too) and has several funky features to track the balls as they move across the table. The video is pretty spectacular and gives a way better view of what this actually looks like on the table with full movement. Simply amazing. Love it. <3

If I had to pick my top 10 favorite videos of all-time, this one would likely be on the list. It's simply adorable and appeals to my geeky side. I can only imagine how much time was spent teaching this kid to recognize all those characters. It'll get her plenty of dates later on, though, I'm sure. ;) Well, that, and maybe make her hate her father years from now, haha.

Another harsh reality of gaming is that there's a lot of, well, repetition. Whether it's going around and around the same board or killing the same stuff over and over again, nothing is ever going to be distinctly different from the last thing you just did. The picture above always makes me giggle because it's so true of MMOs (massively multiplayer online game....for example, World of Warcraft, as I mentioned yesterday). There's a little variation here or there. A new landscape. A new creature to kill. In the end, though, you're just going to be sent to go find something else.

One of the main reasons people play games of any sort is for fun, right? Anyone who has ever played 'any' game has likely reached some level of annoyance or frustrating of not being able to advance, whether it's a game of Mario Bros. or Monopoly. World of Warcraft gets a lot of attention these days, but what a lot of people don't realize is that the world of "escape" can often times end up being worse than the rest of life. Yikes! Nablopomo 2009 -- Should I even bother?

For a while now, I've been posting every other day, for many reasons. NaBloPoMo is something I discovered early on in my blogging days, though, and it holds a certain sentimental value to me, even though I completely disagree with what it's become and it's no longer what it originally was. I've started writing up some posts and at this point, I'll be doing a gaming theme. Last year I did an art theme and a had a lot of fun compiling 30 posts specifically for that, so I think I could do the same with a quirky gaming theme. If nothing else, maybe it'll get some of this Nintendo posting...

You know, for razorblades and toothbrushes, of course. You never know what those sadistic ad companies might be trying to con you into, after all. :P Yes, that was a real ad campaign. Colgate really did start advertising oral health (and their products) in Bangkok by putting wooden toothbrushes in the middle of sweets such as ice cream bars and cotton candy. Sneaky, huh? Maybe they were just trying to dress up for Halloween?

Following the theme of my last post, here's some Christmas stuff 3 months in advance. Gah, I hate this trend. I'm already getting sick of Christmas songs. Isn't that sad? It's not even November yet, much less the end of December. Double gah! You didn't really want more Halloween posts, though, right? Right?? Anyway.... This post is really interesting, no matter what time of the year. It's a collection of a whopping 54 ornaments, and it'll have you gasping and giggling. Some might offend some people like the unborn baby trooper which features a fetus packing fighter gear or the Bin Laden...

One of the things that never ceases to amaze me is that before October even hits, the stores are starting to stock Christmas items. Thanksgiving stuff is out before Halloween is even nearby. And I'm starting to expect to see Groundhog's Day or St. Patrick's Day items on the shelves before the first cold day of winter. But, either you fight the system or you join it, and I have a feeling that this continuously growing trend to push out holiday items months before they arrive won't be going away any time soon, so I might as well jump on board. I must say, this pumpkin predator is probably one of the most detailed "scary" pumpkins I've seen before. Want even more detailed pumpkin carvings? Try out Pumpkin Gutter for tons of gallery photos. Extreme Pumpkins also has some interesting ones, although the general theme seems to be creative setups or quirky carvings, rather than overly detailed and artistic.

Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure Just six words? I struggle with anything that asks me to limit my words to only 100 or 250. Yeesh. I love reading what the others have said, though, and if you check it out on Amazon, you can actually read the first few pages worth, along with the editorial descriptions and commenters who posted their favorites. Some are sad like the 9 year old who wrote "Cursed with cancer. Blessed by friends," or "Girlfriend is pregnant, my husband said." Others are funny like "Seventy years, few tears, hairy eyes," or...

Savethewords.org is well, about saving words. Hosted by Oxford Dictionaries, it's filled with tons of old words that are fading away and can be "adopted." No worries, you don't have to pay a cent. By adopting a word, you're promising to use it in conversation as frequently as you can to help save it from fading away. Turn up your sound to hear the pleas of these endangered words. If nothing else, it's really interesting to scroll over the collage of words and check out what some of them mean. If you happen to find one that really jumps out to you, don't be afraid to adopt it.
