Q&A: My Favorite Toys

Q) What is your favorite software effect to use?

A) I love using Ohmicide for distortion. There hasn't been a single song since the EleKtrostatiK [demo] in which I haven't used it on at least half of the instrument tracks. Amazing plug-in!

Q) What is your favorite instrument?

A) My voice! The TC Helicon VoiceTone vocoder synth is a lot of fun, and I love to see how many sounds I can come up with.

When it comes to creating sounds, the possibilities are endless, and these two effects tools help keep me inspired and learning new things. :)

In Transition - Choosing Freedom Over Money

I'm not usually one to make rash decisions. Ever. Especially when it comes to employment.

But sometimes you just don't give a fuck anymore. Every fuck that I had to give, has been given. I've been shit on by corporations for far too long.

So I quit.

I'm not quite sure where I'm going from here, but I know that this is not where I need to be. I need to be spending my time creating and doing what I love, not wearing myself out doing shit I hate and pushing my passions aside for... not much money. 26 and digging my own grave- I don't want to live to die. I live to live. So if I'm going to be broke either way, I'd rather do what I love.

I'll be blogging a lot more now, and spending a lot of time on my music most days. Two years ago, I couldn't make it like this. Now, it's different. There will be a lot of big life changes taking place very soon. Big steps can often be terrifying (I know I'm nervous right now), so I can use all the support I can get- if you like what I do, please share it with others.

P.S. Thanks for all the Facebook love! I never really expected all the great feedback in comments and messages.. It feels amazing, knowing people dig my work.

Q&A: How Long I've Been Doing It And What I Learned About Song Writing

**These have got to be the two most commonly asked questions.

Q) How long have you been writing music?

A) I think I started writing my own music in 2005, though I didn't record much of it, and most of those tracks have been lost. I started recording stuff for T7N in 2008, until 2010 (but we're not done yet- just a break). And 2010 is also when I began writing on my own. Since then, I've released Delirium [demo], EleKtrostatiK [demo], EleKtrostatiK, Bound [single], Infekt [single], and the Infekt album is in the making.

Q) How do you write a song?

A) I'm always receiving messages on Facebook from people (usually teenagers) who like my music, and want to write their own, but don't know how.

But before I can say anything, I have to answer with a question of my own - Who are you trying to please- yourself, or someone else?

If you're looking to become rich and famous, you're definitely asking the wrong person. I can't tell you the secret formula for a hit single.

What I can tell you is that if you're in it because that's what you feel and what you want to do, it doesn't matter how you write a song. You let loose, say what you think, and express what you're feeling. I can't tell you what to think or feel, but I can tell you to relax and just let it happen.

Pretty much every single track I release is one big mistake. It is nothing like how I'd envision it at the start. I'll fuck something up and discover something cool, and tweak things, and completely rewrite an instrument line, etc. It's all one huge fuck-up. But that's okay, because I usually like it better in the end. And it doesn't matter, because I write songs as a form of self expression, not specifically as entertainment.

I find it incredibly easy to write just the music with no lyrics. There are so many sounds I can create. Writing lyrics to music is a bit of a problem for me though. I'll jot down ideas I get and return to them later, but the writing itself can be a grueling process. Usually the words will come all at once, when the time is right, and then I have to start writing them down and recording before they disappear just as quickly as they came.

Facebook Page Now Switched To Timeline

I have switched my Facebook page over to the timeline layout.

This means you can now message me directly, rather than seek out my personal profile. It makes it easier on all of us.

Still not so sure if I'm liking the whole timeline thing just yet.. (I like the newsfeed) but the messaging and feature options are pretty enticing.

I've already received several messages from you guys, which is awesome, you're all very encouraging and that means a lot. Thanks so much for taking the time to tell me, and I'm doing my best to keep up with you.

As for the album, I'm in the process of recording guitar, and re-recording vocals on several tracks. As I look back on my older stuff, I'm thrilled to see how far I've come, and continue to progress. Every day is something new. Can't wait to share the new stuff with you.

I won't release an album I'm not happy with. I want this to be right, so I'm taking my time. I don't have a release date, and I probably will not give you one, and just release it when it's done, without much warning, other than posting about it here, and on Facebook, and contacting the mailing list..

News flash- it's now 2012.

Lots of cool new things ahead.. "Infekt" [single] will be released on Thursday, January 5. The full album.. well, I still don't have a release date for that, and it's still in the works.

What else to expect in the near future:

February 11 is the Florida Underground Industrial Music Festival 2012 in Orlando, FL. I will not be performing, but I do intend to go. Ludovico Technique will be headlining. I'll be updating about this later, as February draws closer.

THE LUDOVICO TECHNIQUE

The name:
stems from the drug-assisted aversion therapy found in the novel and film "A Clockwork Orange", in which the patient is forced to view violent imagery while injected with experimental medication in an attempt to condition the subjects behavior.

The sound:
harsh industrial music highlighting the dark aspects of the human experience as well as the depths to which mans mind can deteriorate.
