As part of our plan to make Quranists Network bigger, better, more useful, more interactive, more user friendly, easier to navigate and continually improving your online experience, we have set ourselves some targets. Please help us!

Here is a summary of the goals for improving our web stats for May 2013, inshaaAllah!

On the Qnet website, we would like 2400 visits by the end of the month, which is about 80 visits/hits per day. You can help by sharing our articles with friends and family by email and on Facebook and by using social bookmarking tools like StumbleUpon, Reddit, Digg etc. Please also put our badge on your blog to give us your support!

On QV blog we are aiming for 1670 visits during May, which is about 56 per day.

Quranists Welcome Pack needs 300 per month ( 10 per day)

We are hoping to increase the number of Subscribers on our mailing list to 250. You can Subscribe here

QNetTV (Quranists Network TV Channel) has had over 38126 views so far. We are aiming to reach 50000 by the end of the year. Please help us reach 40000 by the end of May 2013. You can watch the Playlists here

Scripture Centred Quranists

The 7th type of Quranists are the Scripture Centred Quranists. These type of Quranists are those who believe that the myriad of terms which relate to scripture and revelation such as :

1. al-kitab

2. al-quran

3. ahsanal hadith

4. ahsanal qasas

5. ayatun muhkamat

6. ayatun mutashabihat

7. at-tawraat

8. al-injeel

9. lawh

10. zaboor

and others refer to the Quran itself. Using this reasoning, we arrive at a rich system of ideas which relate to the Quran itself. For example, by reading the Quran, we can confirm what is in the book (as per 10/37). Tawrat and injeel represent different types of verses etc. Mohamed Shiekh of the IIPC espouses this view.

Scientistic Quranists

Scientistic Quranists are the sixth type in our scheme. They are those quranists who see the Quran as able to hold its own despite the advances in scientific development. They propagate the Quran as a thoroughly modern book which espouses modern principles. With these scientific miracles, the Quran becomes proven as a text with a divine origin. It’s divinity is proven by the fact that despite the fact it was authored 1400 years ago, it already knew things modern scientists have recently figured out. Scientistic Quranists have gone a long way to help promote the Quran to mostly a Western audience.

Statist Quranism

Statist Quranism arose due to a unique opportunity in Muslim history – the creation of a modern nation state based on Islam which happened for Pakistan in 1947. In this type of Quranism, the Quran is seen to be a source for a state constitution. Phrases like ‘Quranic values’ were derived so as to provide maximum application of Quranic teachings.

Statist Quranists would like the Quranic system of law and nourishment to be in operation and feel that the state is the best organiser of this system. This is due to the fact that the state can effectively implement social programs to make such a system happen.

Biblical Quranism

We continue with a fourth type of Quranists in our typology… Biblical Quranists are actually very common. They are usually found to be finding to Quranic principles and stories through expositions in the Bible.

Biblical Quranists believe that the Torah and Gospel refer to at-tawraat and al-injeel in the Quran and therefore books of revelation approved by the Quran itself. By referring to these books, they obtain extra information about various topics found in the Quran.

For example, they find certain types of prayer formats in the Bible by the Prophets and infer that the Quran, being a continuation of revelation, would echo another form of ritual prayers. They also obtain information about the various Prophets (such as Moses and Jesus) and connect them with the Musa and Isa personalities of the Quran thereby eliciting more information about the two.

Biblical Quranism is generally in conflict with Scripture-centric Quranism (which will be explored soon).

Secular Quranism

Secular Quranism is the THIRD type of Quranism in our typology. It was placed as type 3 because of its prevalence against the first two types (Traditionalist and Neo-Traditionalist types).

For the Secular Quranist, they do not see the Quran as a religious book. Rather the Quran is seen as a practical way of life where there is no room for any religious rites and rituals. They see ‘salat’ in a variety of ways (a common one being ‘commitment’). This is also true for the fasting in Ramadhan in which some of them as abstention from violence. As for the hajj, one of the common views is a world-wide conference for all mankind.

Secular Quranism still sees the Quran as a perfectly relevant and highly practical guide. As such, the less religiously inclined should give it due consideration.
