The first time he appeared on the show, the sheer awesomeness that Mark Musashi (Cutie Honey THE LIVE, GARO, Sh15uya) emitted interfered with Keith’s iPod mic, rendering it unable to finish the interview that they had started at the Dragon Knight wrap party. Now, thanks to the wonders of Skype, Mark Musashi returns for a second interview, ready to give all sorts of interesting behind-the-scenes anecdotes, along with some things you probably didn’t know about the guy in the first place!

In this portion: Mike and Mark talk about Sukeban Deka: Codename Asamiya Saki (Yo-Yo Girl Cop), choosing a martial arts style, how much of a nightmare the Zero suit from Garo is, and the story behind one of his worst injuries on set.

For the longest time, Mike and ally, Card Captor Will, have said that most of their phone conversations are basically podcast fodder and should be recorded as such. With Mike preparing for a two week vacation after dealing with his basement being flooded (Mmmm, love that feel of drenched linoleum) and knowing full well that it’s been awhile since R5 Central has had any content, he decides to take Will up on his offer. Hilarity ensues with talk of their thoughts on the newest addition to the Go-Onger team, Emo Stegosauruses, and Mike challenging Rain to a dance off DDR. Be afraid.

PRODUCTION NOTES:

-Yes I know the quality isn’t the best. My AC was on in the background and the external hard drive was running next to the mic and the speaker phone. Pulled a Patrick Macias in the sense that I just want to get this out there.

-Those two challenges stand. Although, if the video response to Ice T is any indicator, I think I may just stick with my challenge to Rain. That and it’d be a lot more fun…SO BRING IT ON RAIN!

-And I know I flubbed the spelling. Working on that….

Featured in this portion: a follow up review of Sukeban Deka: Codename Asamiya Saki with Erin and Noah from Ninja Consultant, news of a possible Godman sequel, and Daryl Surat. Need I say more on that subject?

PRODUCTION NOTES

-Cool Edit almost didn’t survive this episode. Seriously, I came THIS close to doing a system purge due to the fact that every time I opened or closed a file, it crashed. Re-installed the program three times and I still had this glitch, losing a bunch of sessions in the process and holding back my original release for this episode, hence the outdated news. So far, it’s still stable, wish me luck on the rest of the segments….

-The opening sketch is a parody of the famous Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie sketch, “Grey and Hopeless”. See attached.

-The other Kenta Fukasaku film that I hinted at during Project Follow-Up was none other than last year’s X-Cross. Like ~~Yo-Yo Girl Cop~~Codename, it looks like it has only one redeeming scene: Shoko Nakagawa fighting off Ami Suzuki dressed as a eyepatch wearing, giant scissor wielding GothLoli maid with nothing more than a chainsaw.

The good side to this: We got Ami Suzuki’s cover of “Potential Break Up Song”.
The worst of it: We’re getting a remake of this in the States.

-Bit of famous firsts this episode. This marks the first episode that I’ve used Skype sessions. I’m rather happy with how the editing turned out. This also marks the first use of the Pre-Intro commercial. Every episode from now on will start out with audio from a rather interesting retro Japanese commercial.

Last year, Mike challenged CardCaptor Will by daring him to attend the Midwest Fur Fest convention with a microphone on hand to incite chaos. He agreed under the condition that he would be slightly intoxicated for the duration of the outing. Mike agreed. Sadly this is one of the few surviving pieces of audio from that outing. Be afraid.

Figure there’s no better way to start up the celebrations for Episode 50 than by putting up an audio mash up of Will being tipsy and…singing m-flo. Yeah.

Here at R5, I’m always looking to try and take things a step up from the current status quo…and I think I’ve finally done it. After a long wait, I present to you the official YouTube Channel of all things R5 related: R5 THE LIVE!

While videos will be uploaded there, I’ll be including the vids themselves on the feed for your enjoyment. Hopefully, this will be the start of a trend for me and you’ll be seeing more video entries come time for cons. Maybe even a few Live bits if I can find a connection and means to edit on the go.
