ABOUT THE BOOK

Twelve Gates to the City is the much-anticipated sequel to Daniel Black’s acclaimed debut, They Tell Me of a Home. In this novel, Sister assumes the voice of the narrator, speaking from the spirit realm, telling her brother TL things he could have never known about their family. She constructs the story as a series of spiritual revelations, exposing to readers both who she was in the years of TL’s absence and how every event in his life was an orchestration for his return.TL in the meantime is back in Swamp Creek, to stay this time, but he’s still haunted by his sister’s death. His decision to become the Schoolmaster is the only thing he’s sure about, and his impact upon the students becomes palpable. But he still doesn’t know what happened to Sister. As he searches for ultimate truth, he discovers the secrets and beauty of Swamp Creek.

Twelve Gates to the City is a novel about spiritual revelation, and communal healing, ushered in by one who finally realizes that his gifts were bestowed upon him, not for his own glory, but for the transformation of his people.

In the award winning novel, "Two Tears in a Bucket," Kevin and Simone reminded us how powerful and lasting the bonds of love can be. But can it weather, Another Tear?

ABOUT THE BOOK

Kevin Kennard gazed into the precious face of his newborn son, the offspring of the intoxicating love he shared with his wife, Simone. Closing his eyes, Kevin whispered a prayer of thanks. Life had given him a second chance at happiness far greater than anything he’d fathomed from inside the concrete walls of his prison cell. While Kevin and Simone bask in their familial bliss, those scorned by their union collect the pieces to their shattered hearts and plot the couple’s demise. Darkness hovers the Kennards when their newborn baby becomes the target for revenge. A tidal wave of fatal events stifles the sanctity Kevin and Simone have come to cherish. Kevin had promised those he loved that his gun-toting days were a thing of the past. But with nothing else to live for, he journeys to find the person responsible for the devastation reeked in his world. Someone will pay for what they’ve done to his family, even if it cost Kevin his own life.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

After an impeccable, award winning career in real estate, Traci Bee decided it was time to acknowledge a yearning that had shadowed her from childhood. An avid reader and lover of creative writing, Traci decided it was time to pen the novel that had dwelled inside of her for over 20 years. In September of 2007, “Two Tears in a Bucket” was born. A compelling story of raw love amidst the harsh realities of urban life, the novel won Traci two awards. Excited about the novel’s potential, Traci decided to take a vacation from the world of real estate to focus on promoting her novel. But life had other plans for Traci as a life altering storm brewed in her horizons. Three years later, Traci’s back and her passion remains unwavering. She started King George Publishing, LLC – a publishing company named in honor of her daddy angel, George. TWO TEARS IN A BUCKET, ANOTHER TEAR and A NICKEL FOR A KISS are just a few of the titles in her arsenal.

She’s back, and this time it’s all about revenge.

Tall, dark, and handsome bestselling male author Xavier Preston thought his nightmare — in the form of Pilar, a fanatical stalker/fan — had finally ended. Little does he know it’s only beginning.

When Xavier met Pilar, he got much more than he bargained for. What started out as an erotic one-night stand quickly turned into a dangerous game of obsession and pain, with both parties playing to win. Then she simply disappeared.

Stunning Pilar hasn’t gone away, though. In fact, she has been very near, watching his every move and patiently waiting for him to realize they were meant to be together forever. She still believes they’re soul mates, and the only option for her is “Until death do us part.” If she can’t have Xavier, then no one can. Now no one is safe—not his friends, and definitely not him.

Revenge can be a real killer.

Victoria Christopher Murray’s Jasmine Cox Larson Bush and ReShonda Tate Billingsley’s Rachel Jackson Adams are not your typical First Ladies. But they’ve overcome their scandalous and drama-filled pasts to stand firmly by their husbands’ sides.

But when a coveted position opens up—the President of the National Baptist Association—each woman thinks her husband is perfect for the job. As Jasmine and Rachel’s husbands are both nominated, the scheming begins and both women are back to their old ways. With their husbands as President, they will have more power, prestige, and money than they could have ever dreamed! The competition is on and both will do anything and everything in their power to get their husbands’ the job. It becomes a battle of the First Ladies as these women try to one-up each other.

Just when Jasmine and Rachel think they’re going to have to fight to the finish, the current First Lady of the National Baptist Association steps in…a woman bigger, badder, and more devious than either of them. The women have finally met their match, but the conspiracy behind the position runs deeper than either Jasmine or Rachel could have imagined.

Double the fun, with a message of faith, SINNERS & SAINTS will delight readers with two of their favorite characters from two of their favorite authors—Victoria Christopher Murray and ReShonda Tate Billingsley—it’s a match made in heaven.

.99 Ebooks by Shawneda Marks

CNET turned the spotlight on indie authors in a way that made me smile despite being hurt because a fellow author said it made them want to cry. In years past this would have left me upset for days. My mind would be riddled with questions of why? Apparently I’ve grown because I had none of my past reactions. It’s easy to recognize how new technology, if untapped, could be seen as a threat to traditional authors and publishers who benefit from the elite and exclusive atmosphere of the publishing industry before the invent of POD and ebooks.

While speaking as a panelist on the future of publishing at the 10 Year Anniversary RAWSISTAZ Affair, we talked about the potential impact of ebooks. Several of the attendees who owned first and second generation Kindles said they would give unknown authors a chance if they lowered their price point. I lowered my prices that evening! Over the course of several weeks and now months something amazing happened. People started reading my books.

My love for reading and writing is something I learned existed right after walking. I couldn’t stop if I wanted to (because believe me I’ve tried). Once I accepted this, I prayed, fasted and sought God to show me a way to share my words not only with those my short arms could reach but all the people He wanted me to reach, with the resources I have now. When the newest evolutions in ebooks happened I realized the digital revolution that liberated independent artists in music and movies had finally arrived in the publishing world.

The interesting thing is my desire initially was to give free copies of my books. For some reason only the corporate execs at BN and Amazon know this is an option unavailable for direct content publishers. Now in addition to my books being read (which to me as an author is most important) I’m also receiving a small financial benefit from it. There are those independent and traditional authors who say they work too hard to sell their books for so little. When you have thousands of readers enthralled with your characters and anticipating your next work this may be an attitude you can choose to take. I on the other hand work too hard to create stories to let something like money keep me from connecting with the truly important people in the literary community, readers.

Shawneda Marks is an avid reader, book reviewer and author. Her third Christian fiction awareness novel, My True Essence, released summer of 2011. She lives in metropolitan Atlanta with her husband and daughter.

ABOUT THE BOOK

PHENOMENALLY ME is a carefully crafted blend of classical and modern influences, feminism and post feminism. There is a strong sense of confidence and pure honesty felt from the very beginning all the way to the very end. The reader can feel the pulse of passion on every page. Phenomenally Me is a book that dares you to explore life mentally and emotionally and is a strikingly bold adventure through a woman’s heart, mind, and soul. It would be a welcome addition to an update of the Ras Baraka and Kevin Powell anthology, IN THE TRADITION.

PHENOMENALLY ME is new wine in new bottles, and Sarah J. Heidelberg is a right poet for the New Millennium worthy of her icons, which include Jessica Care Moore, Alice Walker, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, and Sylvia Plath.

Sarah Heidelberg, born in Kansas, is a carefree spirit with many words flowing from her mind and heart. She’s been through many trials and tribulations and experienced losses, but they have only made her stronger. She doesn´t just write about the trials, she writes about conquering and emerging triumphant. Sarah, 29, graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi (2005) with a degree in English. She followed with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (2010).

Thamesis watched Trust calmly walk away from him. He didn’t mind the back view of this woman, but there was nothing like watching her eyes, especially when they ignited with anger. No doubt Trust wanted to harm him, but he couldn’t bother with being scared when he was so busy being turned on. She tried so hard to dismiss him, not knowing how futile a task that was.

Trust was fire and ice and he wanted nothing more than to throw himself headfirst into that beautiful womanly body. Thamesis spent his nights dreaming of the beautiful, dangerous woman. He wasn’t sure what turned him on more: her beauty or her lethalness. Though she hadn’t maimed since coming here, Thamesis knew it wouldn’t take much to get her there. Trust wasn’t just talk; she was death to whomever she decided was her enemy. And damn if that didn’t make him hard.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

“Possession is nine-tenths of the law, and the other tenth is being able to whip your opponent’s ass” was the motto of Trust Nyarai. It was hard to take shit from a Nyarai woman. The swamps were littered with those who had tried. A badass chopper-riding, machete-wielding woman, Trust was good at three things: slinging hash, separating assholes from their entrails, and protecting her family.

Bad tempered on his best day, Thamesis Ceanncath was lethal. His prowess in battle had earned him a fearsome reputation…and banishment from his native Scotland and pretty much the rest of the world. Stuck in Georgia, he’d taken up new hobbies: riding choppers and enjoying Southern cuisine. And then Trust rode into town. Jealous of the jeans that had the privilege of cupping her ass, he wasn’t prepared for her…on any level but that didn’t stop him from wanting her.

Thus began their relationship…as far as he was concerned. He decided he wanted her the moment he witnessed her handling her weapon. He decided he was going to keep her the moment she responded to his threat with one of her own. She may not have mouthed it, but she yelled it with her eyes. Later, when they’d had some alone time, she reiterated it with her beautiful, tempting mouth.

Yeah, she was his. Now all he had to do was convince her…and the rest of Mid NFW, who’d taken a liking to the spirited woman. No one was making it easy for him. Instead of getting angry, he simply grew harder and more determined. Not a man to back down from a fight, he wasn’t going to start now. Lord help them all.

AUTHORS’ BIO

A kickass tag-team bound together by the pen, Jeanie (the shagalicious wordslinger) and Jayha (the ninja master of h*ll no’s) are forces of nature that will either leave you begging for mercy or begging for more.

We are women who have brains we aren’t afraid to use; feelings we aren’t afraid to express; and, middle fingers that we aren’t afraid to extend. We pen stories that push all kinds of boundaries and we don’t apologize for it. Our heroines are feisty; our heroes are hot, and our stories are one-of-a-kind adventures.

“That bastard had his hands all over you. You preferred that to a moment’s embarrassment?”

“No, I…” She didn’t know what to say to make this better. Christ, he was furious; his eyes were midnight blue. “I’m sorry, okay?”

His stare travelled between each of her dark irises, searching for honesty in her words. He pulled her closer. “You’re not sorry. You put yourself in such fucking trouble to prove what? That you can take care of yourself? Or more likely that no one gives a shit about you? Why are you so goddamn blind?”

He was gripping her in the same place as Thug One had, and it was really starting to hurt. “Nick, let go,” she said firmly.

“No.”

She blinked. “What do you mean, ‘no’?”

“Exactly what the word means. No. So this is me, showing you that I give a shit.”

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Don’t touch the hot Italian was a mantra Gina Robinson had spent the last ten years repeating to herself about her best friend, Nick Da Canaveze. She had to repeat it often, as Nick was hot beyond all reason.

Everyone knew how Nick felt about Gina…except for Gina. Ten years was a long time to wait for the girl you love to get a clue, especially when it only took him a month to realise he wanted to worship at the altar of her body every day for the rest of his life. Gina wasn’t just good for him, she was perfect for him. He’d spent many nights imagining if her beautiful chocolate skin taste as good as it looked and if she’d moan his name or scream it when he brought her to climax?

Once he got around the whole platonic-friendship nonsense that had up to now categorized their relationship, Nick vowed to get around to teaching her new phrases like Harder, Soprano!, Deeper, Soprano!, You’re going to make me break the sound barrier when I scream out your name, Soprano!

AUTHOR’S BIO

Ah, poor Billy. The only girl between two boys who each have nearly a foot on her. Didn’t stop her from starting physical fights with them. She still thinks she can take them. So while she used to hide away in her wardrobe to read a book or four, she started to question why the heroines in those books would just lie there and take it. No, not just sex, but downright James-Bond-backhand-slapping, do-as-you’re-told-woman, inappropriate lie there and take it.

She couldn’t understand it. These women were just playing that mental woman from Coming to America, Miss “Whatever You Like” who barked like a dog and hopped on one foot. Billy didn’t want to do that. Definitely not because one empty-headed fool with different anatomy told her to. So she started to create characters and worlds where the women could own their sexuality, their intelligence, their right to turn around and say “jog on, mate” without apology.

The small problem was that other people wanted to read what she was had written. “Er…why?” didn’t cut it as an answer. After years of prodding and pleading and come on and for goodness’ sake, what’s the point otherwise, she closed her eyes and pressed “submit.” Actually, she had Prosecco, limencello and white wine, then pressed “submit.” Who would have thought people would actually enjoy reading about the crazy characters who live in her head? But they have done, and Billy feels rather proud of that connection with her fellow man.

Billy lives in London with the most patient family in the world and doesn’t forget for a minute how lucky she is. Well, she wouldn’t mind a BBC adaptation of one of her novels… Ooh, with Richard Armitage!

Closing her eyes, Morgaine let the tears that had gathered in her eyes fall. She’d never not been liked, and it hurt to think when she actually finally cared about someone, that someone didn’t care about her. That session had been her hardest to date because she didn’t find an answer that would appease her. Each day that she began to rework the fabric of her life into the vision she had for herself, she kept reaching a snag—Leland. She couldn’t describe the pull that kept guiding her to him, but it tugged and she followed.

She resisted the urge to cry. Morgaine knew this connection she felt for Leland wasn’t a result of the trauma she’d experienced as a child. This was about the two of them, and if she could just get that stubborn bastard to acknowledge what they had, life would be so much better.

What does it mean to have the life you want? To wake up and live to your full potential and never question what has been put in your path. Leland Jacobs felt he had that life. He was part of the perfect Pack run by the perfect Alphas, neat and orderly—just the way he liked it. Then tragedy comes to call one day, and Leland finds his world turned upside down.

What does it mean to live your life by the dictates of others? To wake up and know that you have only reached a fraction of your potential and question what has been put in your path. Morgaine Emrys had that life, and she longed for the day when it would be over. Then a miracle comes to call one day, and Morgaine finds her world turned upside down.

Leland and Morgaine are two individuals traveling on different paths—until there is only one. Will they continue hand-in-hand…or will they decide that their journeys are best taken alone?

AUTHOR’S BIO

Like most great superheroes (or super-villains, depending on who’s telling the story) Janet Eckford lives a double life. By day Janet is a mild-mannered crusader for justice (or nefarious deeds, depending on who’s telling the story) and by night an indestructible creator of prose (or pathological liar, depending on who’s telling the story) while munching on her favorite cookies—oatmeal raisin. A native West Coaster who hails from the sunny state of California Janet, has loved the romance genre ever since she convinced her dad it was required reading when she was eleven. Janet believes love shouldn’t have a color code and strives to create stories that represent that belief. Send her your praise and adoration and she will return it in kind.

GETTING TO KNOW VICTORIA

If you could go back in time, where would you go and who would you like to see?

I would go to Portsmouth, VA to meet my paternal grandmother. She died when I was just three years old. I would love to interview her about what it was like being a black nurse in the 1940’s until she retired.

If you could have dinner with one person, who would it be and why?

It would be with my maternal grandmother. I was just 17 when she died from a massive heart attack. She was my best friend and I miss so much. I would want to have dinner with her so I could tell her I listened to her when she told me to go to school and get my education so I could become “somebody.” I would tell her that I never, ever wore red lipstick again after she told me, “Take that mess of your lips looking like a chicken’s ass.” LOL Her words, not mine. I would tell her how I keep her memory and legacy alive by telling my children, nieces and nephews everything she taught me. I would tell her I love her and my heart still hurts because she’s not here.

Who is the one person in the world you admire the most and why?

I can’t say that I admire one person, because I admire two. And those two people are my parents. I love and admire my mom and dad because they’ve made lots of sacrifices for me and my siblings. My mom was a stay-at-home mother, while my dad was the sole provider for our family. I’m sure it wasn’t easy raising six kids on one income, but my parents made it look easy. If they were struggling we never knew it. Whenever or whatever we needed my parents always came through for us.

Another reason I admire my parents is because they have been together for over fifty years and are still going strong. Of course they fuss like any other couple, but I must tell you their fussing is like a comedy show. One of them will say something really crazy and the other will burst out in laughter. LOL! Yep, they’re the best.

ABOUT THE BOOK

As a young widowed mother, love is the last thing on Karen Johnston’s mind. Her busy life revolves around caring for her two young children, which becomes even more challenging when her children begin to show signs of needing a father in their lives. Just as things start to go haywire in the Johnston household, in walks ruggedly handsome Dominic Peretti, Jr. The attraction between the two is undeniable. Karen spends restless nights dreaming of his touch. As he begins to crowd every space of her life, will she give in to her sensual desires? Or will she sacrifice her desires for the sake of her children?

Dominic ‘Dom’ Peretti, Jr. isn’t looking for a serious relationship when he accepts the task of surrogate father to Karen’s children. But he can’t get the ever so lovely and sexy woman out of his mind. His intention is to have nothing more than a hot, steamy fling to satisfy his appetite. However, as he gets a taste of life with the Johnstons, he has a decision to make. Will he give love a chance? Or will he walk away, leaving Karen and her children in harm’s way?
