The 2011 RBC Brazil team is going to Brazil from June 18 to July 3. The focus of our ministry will be the families and children who live at the dump outside the town of Benevides, Brazil.

We will be working alongside a team from Open Arms ministry in Assis, Brazil and 10-12 helpers from the Benevides area who have been trained through Lynne McLeavy’s ministry there. We will be having the camp at a nearby Christian college called Word of Life. It is an excellent facility where the children will be given three meals a day, receive hygiene and basic medical care, be able to swim in a pool, play sports, do crafts and sleep on actual mattresses, while also hearing biblical teaching in their own language. Most importantly, the children will be able to see, hear, and feel the love that Christ has for them. Our goal is for campers to have fun being kids while learning that they are loved and valued by God and others.

We would love to invite you to participate in our mission to minister to these children. This year it will cost $150 for each child to come to camp - money that these families do not have. This cost covers the facility, food, crafts, clothing, medical and hygiene items. We are hoping to have 225 children attend the camp this year. If you cannot sponsor the entire amount for a child, a donation of any amount will help.

If you sense God calling you to join us in this effort, please click here to give online. If you choose to donate an amount that is different from the options listed on the online giving form, please bring a check to the church office, and put "Brazil Child Sponsor" in the memo line.

While the team is in Benevides they will also be building a house for a needy family in the community. This will be the second house that our Brazil team will be building. If you feel led to donate towards the supplies for building this home you can donate online, or bring a check to the church office, and put "Brazil Building Supplies" in the memo line.

CLICK HERE TO SUPPORT A CHILD

CLICK HERE TO HELP WITH SUPPLIES

Your spiritual growth is of central importance here at Reston Bible Church. Whether you’re just starting to explore the Christian faith, or you’re a long-time Christ-follower, we want to do everything we can to help you on your spiritual journey.

With this in mind, the RBC leadership is asking for your feedback on our church and your spiritual journey through REVEAL, a spiritual life survey you can access on the Internet.

There are four things you need to know about this survey:

It’s comprehensive and thought-provoking.

You should set aside 35-40 minutes to take it.

It’s completely anonymous so you can be open and honest with your feedback.

It’s extremely important. The findings from this survey will shape our decisions about how to create the best possible ministry strategies to serve you better.

We want to hear from all of you. Please take the survey and encourage all of your friends who call our church their church home to participate as well. THE SURVEY WILL BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MARCH 13. We know you are very busy. But this is very important, and we ask that you complete the survey before this date.

Each night during our Conversations outreach we will be feeding the more than 100 people in the cast and crew. Most of our volunteers travel directly from work to church each night of the production. Not only do they donate a tremendous amount of time in rehearsing for the weeks before the production, but they also commit to being here all five nights of the production after working their normal jobs all day. Feeding them is a way that we can be a part of this wonderful outreach. Please consider signing up to provide one or more items of food. Several days before your “day” you will be contacted to remind you of what you signed up to bring and with additional information as to when and where to drop off your food items.

On a smaller scale, we also provide lunch for approximately 40 on the days of the all-day Saturday rehearsals.

Choose which day or food theme you prefer:

All volunteer needs have now been met. Thank you for your generosity!

However, we are still looking for some more help with childcare during the event. If you are interested in serving, please contact Joan Lastova at joanlastova@restonbible.org.

We are looking for people who would be interested in helping in this year’s production. Last year over 300 volunteers made this outreach possible. If you are new to RBC and are not yet serving, this would be a wonderful place to start.

We are looking for people to serve as:

Team Leader – Ushers: Organize the Ushers into teams, communication information to them, and oversee the ushers during performances

Ushers: Assist in directing our guests to seats, cry room, children’s ministry, and restrooms. Hand out programs.

Team Leader – Bakers: Communicate with the teams of bakers via email, and follow up with phone calls as needed.

Bakers: Bake 5 dozen cookies, brownies, bars or the equivalent. You may bake ahead and freeze for use on your assigned performance night.

Concessions Staff: We need volunteers to serve coffee and baked goods to our guests 30 minutes before and after the performances.

Popcorn servers: We need volunteers to serve popcorn to our guests 30 minutes before and after the performances.

Prayer Team: Join with others in praying for the testimonies, volunteers and for the visitors who will hear the Gospel.

Children’s Ministry Workers: Assist in caring for our little ones during the performances.

Makeup Artists: Assist with the application of stage makeup.

Costume Seamstresses: Assist with sewing any costumes that may be needed.

Meals: Providing one or more items of food for the cast and crew’s dinners on performance nights.

If you would like the opportunity to be part of this great team of volunteers, prayerfully consider joining us in one or several of the many volunteer positions that are available now through the week of the presentation. The time commitment varies depending on the area of service but most positions are for a one-time need. All RBC ministries will be suspended during that week, as the congregation is encouraged to participate by bringing their family, friends, co-workers, and those from their community. Won’t you please give of your time and talent to make this event a mighty tool in the hands of our Lord?

For questions or more information, contact Barb Ruffner at barbruffner@restonbible.org.

Want to help provide meals for the cast and crew?
2010 Annual Report

This has been an amazing year at Reston Bible Church. In addition to our ongoing ministries here and around the world, God has blessed us with a new campus with which to carry out our mission of “Knowing Christ and Making Him Known.” We have many reasons to be thankful and to rejoice in God our Savior.

This annual report is designed to give you information about:
• The major ministries of RBC where you may serve our church body and the community or learn and grow in your relationship with Christ.
• How the finances of RBC are handled
• How you can contact our ministry leaders

The staff and elders of our church family are thankful to God for the new campus He has provided. We’ve seen a 25% growth in attendance since we opened and you have responded by increasing your volunteer hours and caring for our guests in extraordinary ways. Thanks be to God! He has given us new families to care for and with which to share the Gospel.

The church pastors and staff are very happy to be together in the same building for the first time in many years. It has been so helpful to both internal and external communication and has contributed to better collaboration than we’ve ever seen. The new campus has also created opportunities to reach out to a new set of neighbors. It is a joy to see new people joining us each week for worship and service. I look forward to coming to work each day as it is a privilege to serve the Lord at RBC alongside our other pastors and elders. I love these men and respect their walks with God. We want to thank you for your generous giving which makes it possible for us to devote our energies to the preaching of God’s Word and the care of the flock He has entrusted to us.

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 instructs us in this way, “…there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” May God use the different gifts he has given to each of us for the common good, the good of our church family, our community, and the world. If there is any way that we can be of help to you as you walk with Christ, please allow us the joy of serving you for God’s glory.

Serving joyfully,

Ed Nalle
Executive Pastor, Elder

This year we are excited to have Ed Welch as our conference speaker. Ed is a counselor and faculty member at CCEF. He earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Utah and has a Master of Divinity degree from Biblical Theological Seminary. Ed has been counseling for over thirty years and has written extensively on the topics of depression, fear and addictions.

Ed Welch will examine the roots of fear in the human soul and the ramifications of living in the grips of anxiety, worry and dread. Welch will encourage us to discover that the Bible is full of beautiful words of comfort for fearful people (and that every single person is afraid of something).

Instead of as Welch terms it, “hitting the default switch” by responding with characteristic human independence, control and self-protectiveness, he will direct us through Scripture to where God speaks directly to our fears:

On money and possessions
On people and their judgments
On death, pain and punishment

Join us to learn more about what our fears mean, and hear the good news that God provides both the remedy and the cure for this malady in the person of Jesus Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, and through powerful, life-altering promises in Scripture.

It is our desire that those who consider RBC their church home would attend worship during one of these blocks, then spend another block either serving in our Host Team or being equipped though one of our class offerings.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING WEEKEND SERVICES:

Getting to Our Campus: When you turn onto Oakbrook Court, keep going straight through the business park. Take a right onto our driveway when Oakbrook Ct. ends. As you come up our driveway and into the parking area, you will see the Youth Building (Jr. and Sr. High) to the left and the Main Building (Sanctuary, Bookstore, Children's Area, Nursery, Staff Offices, Classrooms) will be on the right.

Parking: Parking Attendants will be on-hand in the parking lot during weekend services to help direct traffic. If you want to drop off your family before parking your vehicle, please let a parking attendant know so they can direct you to the drop-off area in front of the main building.

As You Enter: As you come in the front entrance of our main building, there is will be a Welcome Desk in front of you where you can ask questions or get any information you would like about who we are and what we do as a church.

To the immediate left is our Bookstore and stairs to our classrooms, counseling rooms, and staff offices. Past the stairs to the left are restrooms and the entrance to our Children's Ministry and Nursery area.

To the right is our Meet & Greet area and doors leading into the Sanctuary. On the far side of the lobby is a side entrance/exit and a self-serve coffee bar. There is plenty of seating and free wi-fi as well.

Coffee Bar: Please stop by our self-serve coffee bar in the lobby between services. It is free to RBC attendees and guests, but please consider contributing towards your cup of coffee. Our coffee supports Land of A Thousand Hills, a company that is working to help the people of Rwanda in the name of Jesus Christ to grow, develop, and gain sustainability in the wake of years of civil war and genocide. Donation boxes are on the coffee bar if you desire to give. For more information about Land of A Thousand Hills' work in Rwanda, visit http://drinkcoffeedogood.com. Please do not take coffee into the sanctuary.

Services: Worship services are held Sundays at 8:15, 10:00 a.m., and 11:45 a.m. Our worship services are a blend of contemporary and traditional styles and usually last about an hour and fifteen minutes. A typical service includes a Scripture reading, announcements, musical worship, prayer, communion (usually on the first weekend of the month), and Bible-based preaching. Dress is casual - you will find people wearing anything from suits and ties to shorts and T-shirts. Ushers are on-hand to help you find a seat if necessary. We ask that you please do not bring food or drink into the Sanctuary.

Children & Nursery: As you enter the front of the main building, the QUEST Children's Ministry and Nursery area are to the left. If you are a regular attendee of RBC and are already familiar with the checkin process, you will find the check-in stations at the Bookstore counter and along the hallway leading to the Children's Ministry area. If you are new or visiting, please go through the QUEST entryway; straight ahead, you will see a check-in desk with some friendly volunteers who can walk you through checking in your kids and help you find the appropriate classrooms. Learn more about Children's Ministry at RBC here.

Each child is assigned a number when they check in. If there is an issue with your child during worship services, that number will be displayed on the screens in the sanctuary. If you see your child's number, please go to the Children's Ministry check-in desk.

Junior & Senior High Youth: As you come up our driveway and into the parking area, you will see the Youth Building to the left. Our Junior High program—BreakThru—encompasses 6th through 8th grades and meets for worship and teaching at 9:45 a.m. Learn more about BreakThru here. Our Senior High program—Gap—is for all high school students and also meets for worship and teaching at 9:45 a.m. Learn more about Gap here.

Watch a retrospective of the old RBC campus, and listen to Pastor Mike's prayer for the church from his first sermon.
