There are 2 ways of doing this:

1. In WordPress there is the “Media” Library that allows you to upload images to your blog, then use the link provided to add it to a page/post or anywhere else on your site.
2. The second way is to upload/insert it directly from the post or page you are creating using the menu option shown on the page and post interface.

So here is the quick guide on each method on how to upload and insert images onto posts or pages of your blog

Post – Page Insert/Upload Menu Button:

Step 1: Make sure you are on the visual editor tab while creating your post/page.

Step 2: Login to your google analytics account

Step 3: Find the UA- profile number for your website you want to track, if you do not have one, go ahead and create one. (the profile id is located in the “Website Profiles” section of Google Analytics.)

Step 4: Copy that UA- Profile ID.

Step 5: Login to your WordPress blog, go to settings > All In One Webmaster.

Step 6: Locate the “Analytics Options” area in the plugin, and paste your UA- Profile id into the Google analytics field – http://screencast.com/t/K0HEC10G1

Step 7: Save it!

And that’s it! Once that process is complete you can now verify, and start tracking your site stats with Google Analytics.

So ill do it step by step in the order i usually do it.

Step 1: Download WordPress from their download side, and save it on your computer.

• Download WordPress Here – http://wordpress.org/download/
• Save it on your computer locally.
• Unzip/decompress it using any popular compressed file extractor (winzip,winrar) to a folder on your desktop.

Step 2: Connect to your hosting account using a ftp client, I recommend Filezilla, or SmartFTP.

• Enter your server hostname/username/password and connect.
• Once connected, navigate to your www or public_html folder.
• Upload the contents of your WordPress zip file to the directory above.

Step 3: Login to your hosting account, and create your mysql database, we use Cpanel:

• Login to your cPanel account.
• Navigate to the databases section- http://screencast.com/t/TGYdcwXi
• Click MySQL Databases

• Create a database user – http://screencast.com/t/b5GXEIdwE, make sure you use a password you can remember, or save the one you generate to the clipboard.

• Select all options and click “make changes” – http://screencast.com/t/E8SzVBwy

Step 4: Finish up the WordPress Install

• Navigate to your new WordPress install url, and click “Create a config file” – http://screencast.com/t/h17rtLX3

• Fill in all the required fields: Database Name, User Name, Password – http://screencast.com/t/bJnOOq5t
• Once those are filled in, press submit.

Many of our clients seem to think that if they cannot get to their site, then it is down.  Most of the time it is because they have been locked out of their account for to many failed login attempts.

So if you are not able to visit your site/blog and think it may be down, here are a couple tools that will allow you to really find out what is up!

First, here is an obvious one that can help – http://www.isup.me – http://downorisitjustme.com/ - http://www.checksite.us - http://www.sitestatus.net/

Another way would be to have your friends visit your site and if it is down for them, then it is really down.

And the last way would be to contact your hosting provider to find out if it is up, and if it is to unblock your computer, and help you remember your log-in info.

From my past experiences i have seen this happen many times, it is always the same thing. Client copy/pasted some info from another page in the visual editor and so it added extra formatting that killed the sites layout.

Ways you can prevent this is to use your own “ORIGINAL” content, or if you are copy/pasting, please take a look at your html tab, or your widget html code after the fact and make sure there is no extra html code that will change your layout. Or do it manually and add the links,images yourself.

Here is a guide that can explain how to create links and add images using html.

So to fix the problem if it has happened to you, this is what you look for if it has happened to you:

Double </div> tags is the #1 cause of this issue. So you need to look in your html coding for your posts,widgets and make sure all tags have a opening and closing tag.  If you go through the code, and find it looks like this:

 </div></div>

And if one of them is not matching up with a partner, then that would be your problem.

My recommendation is to always use your own unique content as you get ranked better if it is, but if you have to use someone else’s then make sure you check its code for extra coding.

Step 1: Download, install, and activate  “Greg’s Threaded Comment Numbering” Plugin

Step 2: Go to Appearance > Editor > Find functions.php, and add the following code to the file:

Once you have done all that, you should now have all your comments on all your posts numbered.

If you know the difference between the WordPress Visual and HTML editors, and when and how to use them, you can keep your site/blog looking more organized and professional.

I believe i have lost count how many times I have seen the same issue come up from a client “My WordPress Blog is screwed up?! Please Help!“. And every time it is the formatting added into the post from an outside word processing program like MS Word or an HTML editor like DreamWeaver, or even from copying and pasting info from another blog. I am not able to explain how it happens but it can really screw up your posts as well as your sidebar/widgets. posting from another program and pasting it into the WordPress Visual editor might bring in some formatting elements that WordPress does not understand or know what to do with. And most of these issues may not show up until after you create a new post that appears above the problem post.

So now that it is recommended that you do not create a post in your favorite program and paste it into your WordPress post whats a blogger to do? First of, if you are doing it just for a spellchecker then might I suggest Firefox as a browser, as it has a built in spellchecker already. But if you still are thinking of doing these types of things then try using the built-in tools available in the two different WordPress post editors.

If you have the visual editor turned off in your profile settings, then you will have two tabs available when creating a new post. The Visual and HTML editors are similar to the different tabs available in an HTML editing application like DreamWeaver. The Visual being the WYSIWYG and the HTML for the programmer who knows code better than most of us know the back of our hands. The HTML editor can be useful to the non programmer, say you create your posts in MS Word or similar just for the spell-check, punctuation and other goodies. You can paste the post into the HTML editor and it will not bring in all that extra formatting. The HTML editor will treat any regular text pasted or typed into it as plain old regular text. You then can click the Visual editor tab and use the Visual toolbar to add any formatting to the post.

So im sure you are thinking that if you create something in an HTML editor like DreamWeaver and then copy the raw HTML code and paste it into the WordPress HTML editor all will be good. Well most the time, but probably not all. There may be some HTML code that WordPress or PHP will not understand or process so you are better off pasting just the plain text into or typing in the faster WordPress HTML editor and then tabbing over to the Visual editor and formatting the post how you want.

The WordPress Visual editor is very useful for adding images/videos into posts, creating links and even changing the text size or color and other things. And if you have an advanced WYSIWYG editor plugin like TinyMCE Advanced, which adds even more tools to the Visual toolbar, you really don’t need to use any other third party application to create your posts. Adding and keeping plugins up to date like TinyMCE Advanced can be a pain but if you really need all the options and features then it may be worth the trouble.

So to sum it all up, try to use the HTML editor for just plain text (unless of course you know the real html code) then tab to the Visual editor to add the formatting, links and images into the post. This will assure that WordPress can handle what you are throwing at it.

So i thought today id focus on helping those that need it get help on learning HTML.

HTML, which stands for Hyper Text Markup Language.

HTML is what websites are written in, its the building block of the internet.

For many years i have been building/customizing websites and have had the opportunity to learn alot about how HTML works. Just the past couple years i have finally started to understand it, and really get into it.

I remember when i was in Middle School and i was in a Technology class. We had a project that i don’t remember all the details but for my project i chose to create a web page.

I had no idea how or what to do, so i looked around the Interweb and found a few great guides on learning HTML.

Here are a few of my favorite sites on learning HTML:

I still use both those sites today, they are a very good reference, and id suggest them to anyone that wants to learn HTML, or wants to better their skills.

Here are a few examples on some HTML code with what they do.
How to create links:

First here is the link, or Anchor code: <a href=”link”>Link Name</a>.
And here is a link in action:

And the code for this link:
<a title=”RFEHosting” href=”http://www.RFEHosting.com” target=”_blank”>RFEHosting.com</a>

“<a” is your starting tag, its the “Anchor” tag.
“Href” is the reference tag, meaning what you linking to.

The “title” tag creates text that will display when you mouse over the link.

“Target” is the target the link will go, some options for its values are:

• "_blank" <-- Most popular, opens the link in a new window/tab
• "_parent"
• "_self"
• "_top"

Then you close the link by using the “>”, then you name your link, And fully close it using </a>.

How to insert images.

Here is the basic syntax for inserting images into a webpage:

<img src=”imagelink” alt=”" title=”" />

Then here is a example of its usage:

<img title=”RFEHosting” src=”http://www.rfehosting.com/images/logo.png” alt=”RFEHOSting Logo” />

“<img” is your opening code to start inserting a link into a webpage.

The “title” tag creates text that will display when you mouse over the image .

“src” is the source location of the image.

“alt” is alternate text that describes the image.

Then you close the image with “/>”

Links and images are the most used HTML tags, they are used on pretty much every single page on the internet.

If you are scheduling posts, and they are not posting on time, please checkout this quick guide.

Step 1:First login to your blog/site by following my prev guide (Logging into your WordPress Blog):

Step2: Navigate to “Settings”:

Step 3: Find “General” and click it:

Step 4: locate the “timezone” setting:

Step 5: Click the drop down list, and select your desired city/timezone

Step 6: Once you have chosen your desired time zone, press “save changes” and you are set.

Note: Make sure to download the correct version for your operating system.

2.) Go through the installation process and then launch your Jing program. As part of the configuration process, you will need to sign up for a free Jing account that allows you to upload videos and pictures in real time.

How to Use Jing:

3.) Once you’ve launched the Jing application, it should appear as a little yellow sun at the top of your screen.

4.) Hover your mouse cursor over this sun, and click on the left most option that looks like a plus sign “+”. You will now have a large mouse cursor, and the purpose is to highlight the area that you want to capture. You will most likely want to capture what is going on in your web browser, so you will want to point the cursor over the topmost area of your browser window. Once you’ve highlighted the area that you want to capture, click your mouse.

Note: If the area that is highlighted does not look correct, just press your ESC (escape) button on your keyboard and re-select the area that you want to capture.

5.) Once you’ve selected your capture area, options will appear at the bottom left-hand corner of the capture area. You will have the choice to choose between:

• Capturing a picture
• Capturing a video

If you select the “Capture Image”

A picture has now been taken of the area, and the picture will appear on your screen in front of you.

6.) Enter a name for the image and then click “Share via Screencast.com” option. (It is the leftmost option on the menu bar that appears underneath your picture. It looks like three arrows moving upward).

Your image will upload to a public web server, and when it is completed, a success message will display:

7.) Click on the link that says “Your capture has been sent and the link is ready to be pasted”. Your web browser will open up to the picture that has been uploaded.

On this new page, look to the top of your web browser and copy the URL. You can now share your screenshot by pasting that URL, because it will take anyone to view your picture.

If you select the “Capture Video” option:

6b.) A countdown will occur, after which a video will be recorded of whatever you do inside of the capture area. Once you have finished, click on the “Stop” button located to the bottom left corner of your capture area.

A video has now been taken of your actions inside the capture area, and the preview will appear on your screen in front of you.

7b.) Enter a name for the video and then click “Share via Screencast.com” option. (It is the leftmost option on the menu bar that appears underneath your picture. It looks like three arrows moving upward).

Your video will upload to a public web server, and when it is completed, a success message will display:

8.) After you’ve captured a video or picture, click on the link that says “Your capture has been sent and the link is ready to be pasted.” It will open that link in your web browser window to show you what people will see when you paste the link.

Now you have an image and /or video of your actions, and can paste a link so that anyone around the world can view this picture / video.

This security release is required if you have any untrusted user accounts, but it also comes with important security enhancements and hardening. All WordPress users are strongly encouraged to update.

The release addresses a number of issues and provides two additional enhancements:

Two moderate security issues were fixed that could have allowed a Contributor- or Author-level user to gain further access to the site.

One information disclosure issue was addressed that could have allowed an Author-level user to view contents of posts they should not be able to see, such as draft or private posts.

Two security enhancements were added. One improved the security of any plugins which were not properly leveraging our security API. The other offers additional defense in depth against a vulnerability that was fixed in previous release.

This coming year for our New Year’s Resolution of 2011, our goal is to migrate/transfer 100 new blogs over to WordPress. I will be creating a tally on our site, and it will be made into a contest.

I will post about the details sometime in January.

Version 3.0.4 of WordPress, available immediately through the update page in your dashboard or for download here, is a very important update to apply to your sites as soon as possible because it fixes a core security bug in our HTML sanitation library, called KSES. I would rate this release as “critical.”

I realize an update during the holidays is no fun, but this one is worth putting down the eggnog for. In the spirit of the holidays, consider helping your friends as well.

If you are a security researcher, we’d appreciate you taking a look over this changeset as well to review our update. We’ve given it a lot of thought and review but since this is so core we want as many brains on it as possible. Thanks to Mauro Gentile and Jon Cave (duck_) who discovered and alerted us to these XSS vulnerabilities first.

We moved “It’s a Tradition” from Blogger to WordPress today, and they have found their new home with us.

WordPress 3.0.3 is available and is a security update for all previous WordPress versions.

This release fixes issues in the remote publishing interface, which under certain circumstances allowed Author- and Contributor-level users to improperly edit, publish, or delete posts.

These issues only affect sites that have remote publishing enabled.

Remote publishing is disabled by default, but you may have enabled it to use a remote publishing client such as one of the WordPress mobile apps. You can check these settings on the “Settings → Writing” screen.

Download 3.0.3 or update automatically from the “Dashboard → Updates” screen in your site’s admin area.

2. Setup your new WordPress installation
3. Transfer your blogger posts/comments to the new WordPress install
4. Copy your post images to the new install
5. Fix wordpress permlinks
6. redirect your old posts to the new site/posts
7. Transfer your Domain’s DNS to RFE Hosting
8. Install/configure/tweak all our reccomeneded WordPress Plugins.
9. Install/Tweak the theme of your choice. (Or move your old them over)
10. Add all the widgets from your old site to the new one
11. Last but not least, fine tune/tweak any other theme and site settings you require
