If you don't want to spend money buying windows server to manage your network or domain, then you can use Ubuntu server capability using Samba. Installing Samba on Ubuntu is like having a windows server that enables you to manage your windows computer/ clients. So this is much like you are having a windows server on your network and yet you are only using ubuntu with samba installed and act as an active directory. 

You can manage samba remotely. Just install windows administrator tools on your windows client machine. You can download it on microsoft site. Just search windows remote server administration tools. Install it on your computer and after that just go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features and Turn on windows Feature -> find Administrator tools and install it.

One way to check if you have a bad hard drive is to use some tools or software for checking hard drive errors. If you have windows OS, you can scan for hard disk error in the system tools -> Disk Defragmenter. This is also useful but there are also software that you can use on checking your hdd errors or bad sectors. I shared a video bellow on checking hard disk failures or bad sectors.

I would like to share with you some tips or ideas on how you can repair your hard disk drive (HDD). Even though your HDD fails or not detected in your PC's BIOS or it process very slowly, there may be some ways on how you can make it work again or how you can recover your important data on it. 

If you are using windows OS, there are some hard disk repairing utilities that you can use. Provided that your hard disk is detected on your windows, it can still be repaired. If your hard disk has some bad sectors that cause it to process slowly, then you may run Disk Defragment Tools.

If something goes wrong on your HDD not detecting from your BIOS, here is a video on how you can repair it and might be a good idea. See to it that you configured your BIOS correctly and that your HDD drive is configured jumpers correctly. Take a look at some of the videos bellow.

Repairing HDD on your laptop is a bit tricky and you need an extra care on handling it. Some parts are sensitive to electrostatic discharge.

I wabt to share a video on how you can setup a web server using FreeNAS. One thing good about freenas is that its free and you can do a lot of file server stuff on freenas. But in this video freenas is setup as a web server and it is fully functional. It can be used as file sharing on the internet and all cool internet sharing services.

If you cannot connect to the internet and have this problem "DNS isn't responding", this is a problem in your isp provider. Try following the solutions on Windows 7 computer or any version of windows you can do similarly.

On your windows 7 desktop right-click on the network icon and click Open Network and Sharing Center.

Click on Change adapter settings.

Right-click on the network card you are using for your internet connection.

On LAN properties, choose IPV4 and click on properties.

Set up DNS server using google public dns server ip adress.

Click on OK and Disable your LAN and Enable it again.

Restart your computer to take effect and browse any websites if this dns not reponding is now fix. If there is no error on dns not responding, then this solution works. Thanks.

Applying thermal paste to a processor chip like intel or amd helps for not overheating. It maintains a range of temperature so that it will not overheat. This is also the most commmon cause why your computer begins to freeze or hangs up suddenly. When your computer or laptop begins to process an application very slowly and you noticed when you touch the cpu part, this is one of the reason. Here is a video on installing or setup a water cooler on intel motherboard. Please be careful in setting up water cooling on your board. Installing water cooling system on any motherboard is very important if you use that one as a server or for gaming purposes where cpu processing is highly recommended. So it is better to install proper water cooler system on your cpu if this is the case.

I will share to you my experiences on why a computer or laptop keeps on freezing or hangs up at certain time or when you process some applications or even when you do nothing. It suddenly hang up and you do not know what is the reason behind it. So here are some of my tips why your computer hang up.

1. Overheating on CPU or GPU unit - This is one of the reason why your laptop or computer starts to hang up. CPU or GPU when become overheat cannot process well all the requests because of the high temperature. To avoid this, you will have to apply good ventilation to your laptop or computer like fans and applying thermal pastes to the cpu or gpu units. Applying thermal paste is a cautious one. You will have to be very careful about that. Here is a proper way of applying thermal paste to a cpu or gpu. By the way cpu is the main processor and gpu is the graphics processor.

2. Your computer application uses a high amount of memory or ram - If you think your computer uses an application that needs a large amount of memory to process, then you will have to add memory to your computer. A 4 GiB of ram is very much okay and of course it depends on what application you are using. When it comes to games or any application that uses much of the graphics, you will have to buy a graphics card that has also large amount of memory 2 GiB is okay.

3. There are some unwanted processes that causes your computer to freeze - If this is the case, a suspected virus/es may have attack your computer. Try to rescan your disks to see if there are viruses that cause your computer to hang up. The best way to scan your hard disk is to make it slave to other computer that has no malware or virus. That is you have to connect the disk to other computer. You have to scan it there for safety. The last resort is you have to re-install your system by reformatting the disk. Please bakup all your files before doing so.

4. Defective Hard Drive - One thing also that causes your pc to hang up, is a defective hard drive which the system resides. Try to defrag your disk if there are block errors and if there are errors, you really have to replace it. Damage hard disk cannot process well the data and thus it may cause delays.

If all these reasons are not what you think might be the cause. Provided that you have enough memory, gpu memory is also enough and your hard disk it working well and also your pc temperature is good then may be there are still reasons why your computer freezes. The last result would be your motherboard has a problem.
