101X Presents: TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE (1986)

Screening to take place at the Central Market on North Lamar!

101X FM presents our Summer Movie Series, to be held on the grassy lawn of Central Market in North Austin. Over the course of the summer we'll be bringing you a total of four cult classic films to be showcased bi-weekly on Wednesday evenings. Grab your lawn chairs and blankets to join us for a unique outdoor movie-viewing experience!

Vote for your favorites! We want to give y'all the chance to tell us what flicks YOU want to see this summer. Vote here to let us know your top pick from the list. Each week these votes are tallied, your votes will be heard and the peoples' choice will prevail!

In the year 2005, the Autobots and the Decepticons are still locked in battle, but a deadly new force enters the fray--a giant killer planet known as Unicron. The heroic Autobots must fight for their own survival and to save their home planet from destruction. A classic of 1980s animation, based on the popular TV series.

AUSTIN AIR GUITAR FINALS! (at Stubb's)

The time has come for the ultimate trashing- the AUSTIN AIR GUITAR FINALS!

Our theater isn't big enough to fit all the shreddings, so we're all heading over to Stubb's for Austin's very own two-fisted, no-holds-barred ax battle of the century!

An amazing spectacle for both performers and spectators alike, Air Guitar has reigned supreme at the Alamo Drafthouse since 2005. We are looking for the next air guitar savant who will represent Austin on the world stage and finally make our town the "Air Music Capitol of the World."

Each competitor has 60 seconds to perform air guitar to a song they either choose before the competition or bring with them. Contestants are judged on the 4.0-6.0 figure skating scale. Costumes are highly recommended as is a little practicing in the mirror, although we have had many amazing walk-up competitors over the years.

The winner of the Austin Finals will be sent to the US Air Guitar Finals. The winner there will represent America at the World Air Guitar Finals in Finland.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA:

A drastic improvement on Lauren Weisbergerï¿½s bestselling novel, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA showcases Meryl Streep's knack for combining humor and sadness. While likely inspired by notorious VOGUE editor Anna Wintour, Streep's Miranda Priestly (head of Runway magazine) is entirely her own creation. Sporting silvery hair, a vast collection of fur coats, an encyclopedic knowledge of all things fashionable, and a killer smile, Miranda is full of wicked charm. With her mature beauty and commanding presence, Miranda is as fascinating to watch as she is intimidating to the constant rotation of assistants thrown her way. THE NOTEBOOK:

A young woman comes to the coastal town of Seabrook, North Carolina in the 1940's to spend the summer with her family. Still in her teens, Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) meets local boy Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) at a Carnival. On the spot, Noah senses that he and Allie are meant to be together. Though she is a wealthy debutante and he a mill worker, over the course of one passionate and carefree summer in the South, the two fall deeply in love. Circumstances - and the sudden outbreak of World War II - drive them apart, but both continue to be haunted by memories of each other. When Noah returns home from the war years later, Allie is irrevocably gone from his life, but not from his heart. Though Noah doesn't yet know it, Allie has come back to Seabrook, where they first fell in love. But now Allie is engaged to marry Lon (James Marsden), a wealthy soldier she met while volunteering in a GI hospital. Decades later, a man (James Garner) reads from a faded notebook to a woman (Gena Rowlands) he regularly visits at her nursing home. Though her memory has faded, she becomes caught up in the fiery story of Allie and Noah - and for a few moments, she is able to relive the passionate, turbulent time when they swore they'd be together always.

One of the most beloved of all American films, THE WIZARD OF OZ is often ranked among the top ten best movies of all-time in various critics' and popular polls, and has provided as many indelible quotes, entered upon the American cultural consciousness, as any other film in history. Its signature song, Over the Rainbow, sung by the young Judy Garland, has been voted the greatest movie song of all-time by the American Film Institute.

The film centers on Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas who is transported, along with her dog Toto, to the fantasy utopia of Oz by a violent tornado that sweeps her farmhouse home away. The storm carries the house with Dorothy and Toto to Munchkinland, a magical place far way from anything that Dorothy has ever seen or dreamed of. She is proclaimed a national heroine by the tiny inhabitants because the luck of the house's landing has caused the house to fall on and kill the Wicked Witch of the East, who holds power over the Munchkins. Suddenly, Glinda, the Good Witch of the North appears and explains all that has happened to Dorothy. Dorothy naturally wishes to return home. However the sister of the now dead Wicked Witch of the East (naturally, this is the Wicked Witch of the West, a role immortally portrayed by Margaret Hamilton) makes an unexpected appearance. Dorothy receives protection from the Wicked Witch of the West by Glinda when magically the Ruby Slippers that were worn by the dead Witch of the East are now on the feet of Dorothy: as long as she wears the slippers, says Glinda, Dorothy will be safe. The Witch of the West leaves, and thus Dorothy is sent along the Yellow Brick Road by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North to find The Wizard of Oz and get his help to return to Kansas and home. Along the way, Dorothy overcomes various obstacles and meets a talking Scarecrow (played by Ray Bolger), a Tin Man (played by Jack Haley) and a Cowardly Lion (played by Bert Lahr), who also are unsatisfied and need to find the Emerald City, of which The Wizard is master, believing that he will give them each what they desire.

City of Lockhart: ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS
The City of Lockhart, Texas, invites you to the Lockhart Park/Pool (504 East City Park Road Lockhart, TX 78644) for a special outdoor screening of ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS!

This live-action/computer-animated update of Ross Bagdasarian's squeaky-voiced cartoon characters finds the chipmunks (in CGI form) transported from their woodland habitat to the city, where they wind up in the home of Dave Seville (MY NAME IS EARL's Jason Lee). Dave, a down-on-his-luck songwriter, realizes the potential of a singing chipmunk pop act, and becomes an unlikely mentor/father figure to feisty Alvin, brainy Simon, and dopey Theodore. Meanwhile, the threesome causes chaos in his life, leading to plenty of fun, frenetic scenarios. When a devious record executive (David Cross) enters the picture, however, Alvin and the Chipmunks must deal with both the trappings of fame and their loyalty to the amiable, hapless Dave. Directed by Tim Hill (GARFIELD: A TALE OF TWO KITTIES), ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS simultaneously modernizes and pays tribute to the classic title characters, who first appeared in the late 1950s and became wildly popular in the '60s.

City of Taylor: THE WATER HORSE

Based on the novel by BABE author Dick King-Smith, THE WATER HORSE: LEGEND OF THE DEEP is set in Scotland during World War II, and focuses on Angus (Alex Etel), a young boy who discovers an unusual egg at Loch Ness. When the egg hatches to reveal a dinosaur-like creature, Angus finds that he has a unique pet--a mythical "water horse," which he names Crusoe. Complicating matters are Crusoe's fast growth rate and soldiers stationed near the lake, factors that make it very tricky to keep the friendly beastie a secret. A thoroughly likable family film directed by Jay Russell (TUCK EVERLASTING), THE WATER HORSE provides an intriguing spin on the classic boy-and-his-dog tale. While Etel, who won over audiences in MILLIONS, ably carries the movie, he is supported by a topnotch ensemble that includes Emily Watson as his mother, newcomer Priyanka Xi as his sister, and Ben Chaplin as a good-natured handyman. Primarily sharing the screen with Etel, however, is the Loch Ness Monster-in-the-making, which is wonderfully rendered by Weta, the company behind the digital effects for THE LORD OF THE RINGS films. Both cute and--in his larger state--intimidating, Crusoe strikes up a surprisingly believable relationship with Angus, providing the heart of this beautifully photographed story.

Game Over VideoGames Presents a no-holds-barred classic game smackdown at their game-mecca @ HWY 183 and Lamar!

For this night, it is all about the ultimate old school fighting game - Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo. We will have a large bracketed tournament, but come early for this one, it should fill up fast! There can only be one champion tonight, so come prepared to unleash your inner "Haruken" on someone! The featured movie tonight should be obvious - think about it.

Game Over VideoGames Presents a no-holds-barred classic game smackdown at their game-mecca @ HWY 183 and Lamar!

The theme is puzzle games and features a battle for supremacy on one of the all time classic puzzle games, Tetris on the Nintendo NES. We will have separate brackets for men and women tonight, so all of you women gamers that love Tetris need to come out and try to show up the guys tonight. We will have a men's champion, a women's champion, and one overall champion. If you think that you are "the wizard" at Tetris, tonight is your night! This will be following by a movie about another videogame "wizard"...
