Everyone is posting theories about what is causing WoW's decline and I found your thoughts pretty interesting. I was wondering if you have a twitter handle? I usually shout out links to blog posts I find particularly funny or informational and would love to tweet out some of yours. I use your twitter handle so my followers know who the author is.

-Sigmandis

Co-Host Holy Shatt Podcast

PS: I run a podcast on World of Warcraft with my friend Xantar. We have recordings available on our website (raleighite.com) and you can even listen into the live show on Sundays at 10PM Eastern / 7PM Pacific. We give away a 30 day World of Warcraft card every week in an email contest (all you have to do is email us a WoW question with the previous weeks secret word to this email address) and we're also giving away a Razer Naga mouse to our live show listeners.

Sorry for the shameless plug :( I just love connecting with fellow World of Warcraft community members.<img I love almost every point. I will go with two of them. ;)

First, being in both factions is good. It makes sense. It represents the fact that it is entirely possible for a race to simply not strongly agree or disagree with either faction, and paves the way for the huge game-changing point in the war when some of the ancillary races finally say 'You guys are nucking futs and we're out of here'. Tauren, Nelves, Draenei, Goblins... None of them really has a strong investment in the core of the war, so much as they are supporting allies. Eventually they are going to realise their allies are not rational and will only accept genocide, and the only way the world will find peace (Much as this is World of WARcraft, at this point the war is really dragging into petulant foot-stomping 'We won't give in until they are dead!' views) will be for the sane people to step out and stop fueling the insanity with bodies.

The other thing is the talents. I feel a bit like we watched different things. You say people are just going to choose the PvP PvE, or Healing talent each time... But a core mechanic of it, and one I really felt flowed through on what they presented, was that you were never GIVEN that choice. You were given three different aspects of a theme (Here's three different subtle ways to effect your healing, or CC, or DPS) and none of them ever seemed like 'OMG that is the only choice'. And that was with the rough concept they have so far, before they have been fiddled with and even more balanced.

The system just doesn't seem to reflect your complaint, and they directly talked about your complaint and how they specifically were trying to NOT do what you say.

Not to mention you can change them relatively on the fly. Wow would be considered a clone of those games if you stretch the MMO genre.

WoW has set such a marker on current day MMO gaming, that most MMOs with similar gameplay are simply titled WoW clones - that in itself does not actually make them a clone though. It's a term more than anything nowadays. Hence the "but not quite".

See Rift, now that right there is a 1-1 copy of WoW, with a few changes. Then find and delete the OCSetupHlp.dll before reconnecting.

I'm mostly concerned that the ad is delivered by Opencandy while running in an administrator context (you allowed UAC to run the Trillian installer with full rights). I don't really want that to happen because I only auth'd Trillian to run, not some random piece of code pulled from the net on the fly.

Let's just see how it goes... Either Cerulean will pull the OpenCandy component from the Trillian 5 installer or MSE will declare it a false positive (assuming OpenCandy is as benign as their website indicates). Unfortunately, secret option number three is abandoning Trillian 5 and returning to v4, no longer recommending it to virtually everyone I meet. :(

Of course, this is all coming to serious light now because MSE just recently began detecting it - Trillian's installer contained Opencandy since last November.

Fun times!

The adware is contained in the package, so MSE wil...

The adware is contained in the package, so MSE will detect it.
And on most installers, it's selected as "on" by default, so people will install it if they click next next next too quickly.
