On Monday 9 November a hundred Palestinians waving Palestinain flags and wearing florecent jackets saying "WE ARE GOING TO JERUSALEM" took down a peice of the concrete wall near the Kalandia airport. The fallowing leaflet was distributed by a group of Palestinians who tore down the Wall near Jerusalem: On 9 November 1989 the world witnessed the moment of the demolition of the Berlin Wall. Similarly, at this moment, twenty years later, a group of Palestinians have demolished part of the Apartheid Wall around Jerusalem. Jerusalem, that bleeds every day... These young boys and girls who were promised by the martyr president Yaser Arafat that they would raise the Palestinian flag on the churches and mosques of Jerusalem. Mosques and churches who's sanctity is defiled while we passively wait for salvation unaware that the responsibility lies with each and every one of us. Rebuilding popular resistance is essential for Jerusalem and Palestine. In this event we are calling for a return to the achievements of the popular uprising that began on 9 December 1987. This year, on 9 December, we are calling on people to move en masse towards Jerusalem. But a constant obsession with top-down solutions -- the big treaties or government programs -- can sometimes distract us from the local solutions that are all around us. Here's a great video made by some friends in China (you can see one of the filmmakers, my buddy Bo Chung, holding a 350 sign on October 24 in the picture to the left) on one local solution: small scale biogas generators: I love this video not only because it shows a compelling green path to rural development, but because it talks directly with the people who are managing and benefiting from the biogas generator. The upcoming climate talks in Copenhagen this December will be dominated by diplomats and politicians. Yet, as October 24 showed, the real leaders on climate change are the millions of average citizens around the world who are going out of their way to chart a new course towards green development. Getting to 350 will require new technologies, mega-wind farms and fields of solar panels. But it will also require small scale solutions and community action. As our friend Van Jones says, "We're going to need the PHD's and hte PH-Do's." This video is a great look at some of the do-er's on the ground in rural China.
All Related

When someone reads “Mike Tyson Detained at LAX for Assault” it seems like it’s a pretty cut and dried case of Iron Mike Tyson just going nuts and beating someone up. That’s not quite how this story goes. While it is true that Mike Tyson has been detained at LAX after a scuffle, the alleged assault was with what Mike is claiming is an “overly aggressive photographer” and that he was protecting his wife and 10 month old child. Read more about why Mike Tyson decided to punch a paparazzo in the fact at the United Terminal at LAX. While true that Mike Tyson was arrested for misdemeanor battery , what appears to be lost in the whole story is that the photographer was also arrested and will be charged with misdemeanor battery as well. Both Tyson and the photographer have asked for charges to be pressed. Now we all know who got the worst of the beatings in this case. It wasn’t Tyson, I can guarantee that. According to reports , Tyson punched the photographer once in the head. The photographer was treated for a cut to the head at a Los Angeles Hospital. According to Tyson’s spokesperson , Tammy Holcomb: “There’s a lot of different versions to this story and that’s all going to come out later,” Holcomb said. “There were numerous witnesses and that’s what this whole case is going to depend on.” After reading this story if the photographer got too close to Tyson, his w
All Related

Check out Britney performing “Circus” : The screaming certainly indicates that people were having a great time! Another clip below the cut! I also found this great clip of Britney performing “Radar” ” Britney’s looking pretty hot in that black bikini and high-heeled boots! The video’s also really clear which is great. As far as anti-lip sync backlash goes, Britney briefly addressed the issue by saying, “I came to Australia for my fans. Some reporters have said they love it and some don’t.” I found a review of Britney’s Melbourne show and it’s clear that not everyone is upset with Britney. Reporter Paul Cashmere wrote: At the Britney Spears show tonight at Rod Laver Arena, there were no mass walk-outs, there were no disgruntled fans and the audience was genuinely entertained. [...] In Vegas, this show would be up for “show of the year”. In Perth, based on a one-woman jury, it doesn’t rate at all. Melbourne, the home of Australian theatre, accepted another good show. He also really blasted reporter Rebekah Devlin – who originally trashed Britney for not singing live – in a wonderfully snarky way. Go Britney! The statement was issued shortly after CBS News’ veteran Pentagon Correspondent David Martin reported that Obama has “tentatively decided” to send four more combat brigades to Afghanistan and several thousand more support troops starting early next year. That would bring the total number of new troops to close to the 40,000 figure originally requested by Gen. Stanley McChrystal. Two other senior administration officials flatly told CNN that the CBS report and other similar speculation is false. The Associated Press reported Monday that Obama is “nearing a decision to add tens of thousands more forces to Afghanistan, though not quite the 40,000 sought [by] his top general there.” The two senior administration officials suggested the information is being leaked by Pentagon sources who are trying to box Obama in by setting public expectations that he will send close to 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan as McChrystal requested. “People at the Pentagon are trying to force a certain outcome,” one of the senior administration officials told CNN. What’s going on? Obviously CBS and AP thought they had a solid story. Where did they get it? The WH says the Pentagon. But do you believe that? Honestly, it’s hard to say. I probably would have never heard this song if it weren’t for “Like Toy Soldiers”, as I’m sure a lot of people can attest to as well. “Toy Soldiers” was Martika’s third and most successful single from her eponymous debut album, released in 1988. A lot of ‘80’s songs tend to be very corny and trite in my opinion, and “Toy Soldiers” falls under this category too, to some regard. But the depth of the lyrics and Martika’s solid performance redeem the song in my book. I’ve always been fascinated by movies and music that aim to subversively depict dark and bleak content under the vise of innocent, childlike imagery. “Toy Soldiers” does just that, using nursery-jingle catchiness to portray the pains of drug addiction and death. In addition to this, many of the lyrics – not just the title – can be interpreted to describe war: Bit by bit Torn apart We never win But the battle wages on For toy soldiers We never win . And now our military is set to deploy an additional 40,000 troops to Afghanistan. Thanks a lot, Mr. President… In honor of our troops who are stationed abroad, I hope for the day when we change in our foreign policy and end these unnecessary wars. Until then, please get back home in one piece… Peace.
All Related

This contract was supposed to end until 2011, but CNN President, Jon Klein, said in a statement, "Lou has now decided to carry the banner of advocacy journalism elsewhere. We respect his decision." Well, hate sells and sells a lot, probably as much as sex does, who knows, but I am sure that if he got a better salary offer from another TV Network he will be working for, he will increase their ratings and earnings as well. I wonder what network is getting in bed with him...Fox News maybe? It's too bad that some people crave for this type of cheap entertainment. Hate infects ones brain and soul, hate brings disaster and pain, hate sickens, shortens the haters life. Hate, is never good. 1. As long as there is a market for hate, there will be work for bitter "journalists" 2. As long as there is a market for undocumented immigrants, they will keep on entering the United States illegally. 3. As long as there is a market for drugs in the US, the drugs will keep on rolling in my friends. Let me make it clear for once and for all: 1. If you don't want hate, do not listen to hateful individuals who rejoice on hurting others with their words. 2. If you don't want "the Mexicans" in the US, DO NOT HIRE THEM! 3. If you don't want a country with drug lords next to yours...DO NOT DO DRUGS! It's funny.
