Search using third party search engines, search for files, do mathematical calculations and uninstall applications directly from the quick search box on your android phone!!! Bing, Yahoo etc. already included!

Type in any search query and search using any of the search engines included, you can add your own by selecting the appropriate option from the application menu!

Type in .jpg(or .png, .pdf etc.) to find all jpg(png, pdf) files!

Type in the first few letters of a file name to search for files, with names beginning with those letters!

Type in mathematical expression (5*6, 2+(3/4), sin 90 * ln 2 etc.) and get the answer instantly!

Chandrayaan's Star Sensor Fails!!!

According to ISRO chief Madhavan Nair, Chandryaan's star sensor failed a month ago. Now the scientists are relying on the onboard gyroscopes and ground antenna to navigate the satellite. When ISRO suddenly posted a press release in their website in May, there were speculations of something gone wrong with the mission. Now, we know the reason. It'll be interesting to see, for how long they can navigate the satellite like this, and how much more data it can collect. Good luck Chandrayaan!

Browsing through the videos from The Colbert Report using my Colbert Report Gadget is an integral part of my morning rituals. Today there was a really surprising video among the day's videos. A video about the Indian elections (which btw, started yesterday). He described India as an emerging world power with a thriving economy, nuclear weapons and the world's biggest stockpile of Kumars. Shahi Tharoor's son Kanishk Tharoor appeared on the show. And Stephen officilly endorsed Shahi Tharoor, although it was a bit too late, 'coz voting in Kerala was over by that time (not that people in Kerala watch The colbet Show anyway).

Chandrayaan-1 faces overheating problem!

Local newspapers are reporting that the payloads onboard Chandrayaan-1 are getting upto 10° hotter than expected. "Isro is trying to cool the devices and stable opeartions are not possible until the maximum temperature is brought down." the chairman of ISRO, Madhavan Nair, said in a press conference.

Indian Navy destroys pirate ship

The Indian warship INS Tabar has set a pirate ship on fire, when fired upon by the pirates. The pirate infected Gulf of Aden has seen a surge in hijacking of commercial ships in recent months. The Indian government sent the naval ship to the Gulf of Aden, after a Japanese ship with Indian crew was hijacked. Until yesterday's incident, INS Tabar had successfully defended two ships against hijack attempts.

CNN-IBN is reporting that Chandrayaan-1 has started orbitting the moon with a perigee of around 500 kms. Congrats ISRO, congrats India!!!

Update: ISRO has confirmed the successful lunar orbit insertion.

Chandrayaan-1, India's Moon orbiter, has taken pictures of Moon using its terrain mapping camera (TMC).

Here's a pic of Moon taken by 'our baby'.

The scientists and engineers of ISRO deserve all credits for the spectacular success of Chandrayaan. I am even more delightd to see Chandryaan aproaching Moon, because one of my classmates was involved in the project. Congrats ISRO!!!

Google's Gmail is already a feature rich email service. The newest addition to Gmail's ever increasing list of features is Google gadgets. Here's how to add gadgets to your Gmail.

First of all you need to enable the 'Add any gadget by URL' Gmail labs feature.

This will cause a 'Gadgets' tab to appear in your 'Settings'. The Gadgets tab lists all of the gadgets you have added. And there is a text input box where you can type in the URL of any of your favourite gadgets (If the text box is not displayed, enable the 'Google calendar gadget' option in labs features (previous step)). I used the URL of my English-German Dictionary gadget. After entering the URL click the 'Add' button. The Gadget will be displayed on the left hand navigation.

Bollywood Celebrity Gadget

Here's the newest igoogle gadget i developed. It shows photos from Flickr, videos from Youtube and news from google news. It's highly customizable. You can choose what photos/videos/news you want to see/read by editing the settings. In its default configuration, it shows photos and videos of Shahrukh Khan.

Click on the '+Google' button to add it to your igoogle homepage, or copy and paste the following code to your website to embed this gadget.

My new google mashups

Google mashups are applications similar to google gadgets, but mostly related with maps.

My first ever mashup helps you to find Wikipedia entries and news about cities/towns around the world. Either you can double click on the map or type in the name of the place for searching. check out the map explorer mashup.

My second mashup is an interactive map of my university. The buildings in the campus are marked on the map. There are lists of the buildings also. So, either you can click on the list and find it in the map or just click on any marking to see the description. Here's the mashup: Interaktive Karte der Universität des Saarlandes. Indian schools are a big hit in Japan

After Tamil movies, it's India's education system, which is attracting a lot of attention in Japan. Many Japanese parents are trying to get a place for their kids in the Indian schools in Japan. The reason: in these schools, children are introduced to advanced learning much earlier than in Japanese schools. Feeling insecure in a changing world order, the Japanese are keen to develop skills of their children early on.
