Grass Rabbit Toilet Litter Trays On Table

Enjoy the company of your bunnies with you on the table by popping a grass rabbit toilet litter tray on the table. Give them a handful of hay, fresh grass and pellets plus a small bowl of water and they can spend lots of time with you at the table while you eat, use the computer or table or read etc. Maybe not do a jigsaw lol as they will hop around and may spoil your puzzle!

Danger of Rabbits Eating Fake Grass
One thing to look out for is bunny nibbling fake grass in their grass toilet. If you notice this immediately offer some hand picked fresh grass and fruit tree branches or a treat or pellets. If this does not stop bunny nibbling the plastic grass then exchange the fake grass mat for a seagrass mat from Bunnings. You can also consider a slightly different type of non-litter toilet which just has a plastic mesh instead of a grass mat. Plus ensure that your bunny has a variety of top grade hays as well as daily fresh lawn grass to eat and no vegetables. Vegetables will fill the tummy and stop bunny from eating hay. Hay is vital for the rabbit’s gut to work properly.

Grass toilets have been trialed at The Rabbit Sanctuary as a new rabbit litter system.

Why grass toilets?

saves money! You don’t need to buy litter!
saves effort - no heavy lifting of litter, storage of litter, disposal of litter etc.
reduces waste
quick to clean - brush off and hose or rinse in a tub or shower if in an apartment

Tips and tricks

we have found the grass toilets need a pad under the tray in case of a tiny bit of spillage (e.g. puppy pads, cut up old sheets or towels, or old newspaper)
brush off the poops into a brush off poops from grass into dustpan
buy two grass toilets so you can just switch them over at cleaning time

How to clean a rabbit grass toilet tray and grass mat

Fold up the mat and tip contents into a plastic tub or waste bin
Hose the two plastic trays
Hose the grass or wash in tub
Hang grass mat to dry

Sound and Pressure - bonding rabbits

The use of sound and pressure in bunny bonding is very important. Take a look at this very short video clip to see how you can use thumb pressure on the inner cheek of the rabbit to keep the head facing forward when a bunny is thinking of biting the other one. Also check out the sound the handler makes which is a harsh, loud sound. The bunny will associate the sound with the hand pressure.

Note also how a sound, a calming voice encouraging and saying “good boy” when bunny is doing well.

The Rabbit Sanctuary recommends feeding a minimum of two types of hay to rabbits. Photos two types of hay. One is a grassy hay and one is a cereal hay. Teff Hay is a grassy hay and Oaten Hay is a cereal hay.

Did you see The Rabbit Sanctuary in the media recently? 9Honey published a great rabbit article to warn folk of the dangers of impulse buying of rabbits in pet shops and online and how they end up unwanted and abandoned after Easter.

"A rabbit is not a toy, and a rabbit is not a product and they are a lifetime commitment, they can live anything up to 13 years of age. When we take on a rabbit we should be looking at it as a forever pet, not a quick thrill for children at Easter," founder of The Rabbit Sanctuary Kim Cooney tells 9Honey.

Rabbits that have waited the longest for a home

Story: The rescuer had this bunny in the yard in a cage with little shelter. Due to heavy rains she has now put bunny in a tiny cage inside a cluttered house with other animals and people all crammed in.

Lismore rabbit rescue is only possible with the kind & generous support of the Lismore Vet and volunteers. Floods in Lismore have meant more rescue rabbits needing The Rabbit Sanctuary care. We are constantly on the lookout for rabbit foster care is in the Lismore area so that we can take in more rescue rabbits been abandoned or discarded.

Rabbit Rescue - Flooding in Lismore

Many pets including pet rabbits were made homeless in the Lismore floods in February and March 2022. The Rabbit Sanctuary rescue response was to assist people to find volunteers to take in the bunnies until these poor people could find homes again and be reunited with their bunnies.

What do you see in this face?

This is May. She was born in a laboratory for research. We can not imagine the sad and scary life she has had, nor can we ever know what pain or suffering she has endured.

What we do know is that she is very loveable and friendly. We are sure her thoughts go back to her dark days in the laboratory and that we never want to see her in a cage again. We know that we want to find her a loving home as a free range companion pet bunny. She is a good girl and respects in house living. She uses her litter tray perfectly. She demands very little but loves her food bowl a lot 💕🐰💕

Bunny Runner Needed in Melbourne for Vet Visits

This can involve driving up to 3 hours so would suit a person who likes driving and doesn’t work or perhaps a sales rep who could include bunny pickups and vet visits during their normal working days.

Rabbit Tunnels Needed for Rescue Rabbits

Our Bunny Barn is a lovely place. Air-conditioned and bunnies are clean and well cared for.

We love to put them out on the sprawling lawns during the cooler mornings for some fun, running, binkying and fresh grass time. Bunny Tunnels Link to Buy.

We have found that they love the large tunnels at Ikea because they provide heaps of cover for them, shade and they feel good inside.

We need more of these bunny tunnels from Ikea so we can provide one for each of the outdoor day pens.
