Termasuk di dalamnya penyebaran ke Benua Amerika, Australia dan Asia.

Di Indonesia sendiri khususnya di Jawa, kelinci konon dibawa oleh orang-orang Belanda sebagai ternak hias mulai sekitar tahun 1835. Keberadaan kelinci di Indonesia sempat tidak jelas sejak kedatangan Jepang tahun 1942. Kemudian berlanjut dengan zaman revolusi kemerdekaan sampai tahun 1950-an. Catatan yang ada hanya menjelaskan tentang keberadaan kelinci yang tidak punah pada zaman itu karena ternyata banyak dikembangbiakkan oleh para peternak di daerah pegunungan yang relatif aman dari pertempuran.
