The park was heating up at MIA skatepark! Probably due to the heat, fewer skaters attended this contest than usual. But the ones that did show up brought their 'A' game. A big thumbs up to everyone that competed in this sweat box. I'm sure quite a few skateboarders were getting some practice runs in for the upcoming Gatorade Free Flow Tour that is taking place at MIA on August 15th.

It looks like that contest will be one to remember!

Upcoming Summer Skateboard Contests

As summer starts coming to an end,

skateboarding events start heating up.

Coming up first, MIA skatepark is hosting a contest on August, 1st. They're opening their doors at 10 am and starting their contest at noon. Only $15 to register in this contest which has 3 divisions along with Best Trick contest. Best Trick winner walks away with $100.

Next, Ramps N Rails is hosting their "Lock-In Sesh" on August, 14th where you

skate all night in their locked-down skatepark. It is sure to be a great time.

The next day, August 15th, MIA skatepark is hosting Gatorade's Free Flow Tour - one of the

biggest contest of the summer. You can pre-register and can find more details on their website.

On August 21st, Skatepark of Tampa is hosting their Back to School Bash.

More details should be posted soon on their site.

And finally, Ramps N Rails will be holding a Back to School contest hosted by

Magic City Skateboard on August, 28th. Doors open at 10:00 am.

Also, Mike Schmidt is back in action after recovering from his dislocated toe from Skatepark of Tampa's contest back in April. Using the trip to Camp Woodward that he won in that contest, he will be coming back strong to compete in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour. We look forward to seeing his new skills.

Ryan is age fifteen and has been filming for two years, his favorite location to skate is "downtown Miami", he also skateboards riding an "Amaxon" board. He says his gene of music is mostly "rock", and when i asked him what his favorite thing to do on the weekend is... he said "film skatboarding!"

The Skateboard Mag put out an issue in 3D, totally awesome.. the only down fall is the crappy 3D glasses that come with the mag but we plan to grab some from a local movie theater. Seeing skateboard photography in 3D adds a whole other realm to the sports action world and rabid rabbit studio plans on 3D photography to be in our future.

Go Skateboarding Day 2010 - Part 2

So one of Rabid Rabbit Studio's goals for Go Skateboarding Day was to expand the world of skateboarding to those that don't skate on a daily regular basis.

It was great getting all these people on a board!

Throughout the day, there were.....

Girls..............................and..................boys,

Younger skaters..............and..............older skaters,

Filmers.........................and...............photographers,

during the night..............and.........................day.

Earlier in the day, we had gone to the Grove Skatepark snapping a few photos of some new faces.

Go Skateboarding Day 2010 - Part 1

Coconut Grove Skatepark, Downtown Miami, Fort Lauderdale Beach, BC Surf + Sport, AND Apollo Skatepark...what a day of skateboarding! The skaters were out...and so were the cops which only scattered skaters to the next spot. Unfortunately, a few spots in Miami were roped off like Epic 9 and Brickell so we decided to hit up Fort Lauderdale Beach next.

After the beach, went to BC Surf + Sport to keep celebrating and get some gear. Then, it was off to Apollo Skatepark to finish the day off with a Best Trick contest. It was awesome seeing everyone! There had to have been 60+ skaters in attendance. Whether watching, skating, filming, cheering, or competing, everyone was enjoying it. Nothing says more about skateboarding than having a free best trick contest at a free park on Go Skateboarding Day.

You can see Diandre was pretty excited for Go Skateboarding Day.

Sugar's Drop Shop Skateboard Rodeo

Rabid Rabbit Studio attended Sugar's Drop Shop's 1st Annual Skateboard Rodeo. Besides the brutal heat and lack of big clouds, it was a very successful event. Today's contests included a seemingly "unofficial" highest ollie contest and best trick for beginner, intermediate, and advanced. A lot of familiar faces were seen including Ramps N Rails' crew of skaters. All and all, it was a fun day with some great skating! Still working on editing more pictures, but here is a taste. Come back for more!

Of course, don't forget....tomorrow....National Go Skateboarding Day!!! Tentatively, we're heading to downtown Miami during the morning to shoot with Spencila. Later on, Hollywood's free skatepark is holding their own best trick contest. The contest starts around 6 or 7. It is free to enter and the winner/s is walking away with a deck and some new wheels. If we have the energy, you will see us there.

Skateboard Contests this Weekend

So there's 2 contests for this upcoming weekend. Sugars Drop Shop is holding their 1st annual Skateboard Rodeo. It is going to be a three day event starting on June 18th and going through June 20. It sounds like its going to be a great time. There are numerous contests going on like best trick, game of SKATE, bungee skateboard drag racing?!?, and highest ollie contest. After you compete, they have a bunch more to do at this "Rodeo" including a mechanical bull, a paint ball shooting gallery, an art exhibit, a BBQ, a punk rock flea market, a hot rod car show, and skate demos. This definitely sounds like the place to be this weekend, so we will be there at the Westwind Lakes Skate Park.

On Florida's other coast, Skatepark of Tampa is doing it up this Saturday with their Skhools Out Jam. This all ages contest is $20 to enter and $25 to enter the day of the contest. They have prizes for each division for 1st through 5th place. The 1st place winner 9-12 sponsored wins an ipod nano. Don't miss out on their free BBQ and product toss. This contest is bound to be a great one.

Skateboarding Photos Published in WeMerge Magazine

Rabid Rabbit Studio has officially been published! WeMerge, a South Florida art and entertainment magazine, decided to publish 5 of our photos from Monster Island Skateboard Contest. Paul Gnu, coordinator of Monster Island, had a nice excerpt next to our pictures expressing the similarities between music, art, and skateboarding expressing that, "Skateboarding itself is an art form, and it's one of those ever changing art forms....I think that the art and skate scenes walk hand and hand." Rabid Rabbit Studio went to Stage 84 last night for WeMerge's release party for their summer issue. It was great having a place to meet other like-minded artists and musicians.

Red Bull Manny Mania AM Hits Orlando

What is Manny Mania? It's an international contests totally concentrated on manuals. Skaters show all the intricate, technical manual combos on a one-of-a-kind manual pad. This contest is open to anyone that wants to participate where you can win prizes and if you are the best, you go on to compete at the next level. Luckily, Manny Mania is coming down to Florida and stopping in Orlando at Universal's CityWalk. Whether you're wanting to compete or just wanting to see some up-and-comers with tech skating, Orlando is the spot on June 12th, 2010.

Grom-O-Rama! What more do I need to say? This contest had some amazing skating going on - often you would forget that the skaters were 15 years old and younger. Having young, talented skaters, then add in some professional and old school skaters at such an amazing concrete park and the outcome will be one excellent competition. Everyone was pushing each other to work harder and try new tricks.

This contest has 4 different levels for the riders to compete in. There is

the "Young Guns" which were any skaters between the ages of 13 to 15.

Then the 12 and Under age group was divided into beginner, intermediate, and

expert. Each skater had 2-one minute runs on the street course, 1-one minute

run on the mini ramp, and 1-one minute run in the bowl. Congratulations to all

the skaters that qualified to the finals that are taking place January 11th, 2011 in

Adam Barmichael and Rabid Rabbit Studio Ride Downtown Fort Lauderdale

Adam Barmichael cleanly ice picks the ledge in front of the KC Wright Broward School District Building. Kneeling by a bus bench at midnight looking over the pictures we had just taken, a car drives by and decides to yell "Get a ******* car you bums!" We all had a laugh realizing what bad luck that dude had considering all three of us actually do have cars and that our camera gear, Adam's bike, and our skateboards most likely costs way more than that dude's dinky car.

Later on, hitting up a rock ledge to grass jump in front of the Broward County Courthouse, Adam 360's off of it with no problem. His bar spin 360's were a bit sketchy. The view from this location was a little disheartening seeing the Broward County Prison about 100 feet away with guards and officers entering and exiting it quite often. At least it would not have been a long ride if they decided to take us in. By the time we arrived at Two-Block, the heat and the humidity had gotten to us. Taking a few more pictures and trying a few tricks our selves, we then decided to head on back home.
