Many of you are saying, here it comes, he wants money; and while that is always a need, that is is not the subject today. What I am asking for is your life, and to be willing to be used for Gods kingdom. Let me list a few requirements: be willing to work long hours with no pay, be misunderstood, drive sometimes long distances and accomplish very little, be a peace maker or what ever you need to be, sound interesting.

This is not a pyramid scheme or one of those get rich deals. No sales, only a chance to present the greatest gift ever made available. Have I rambled on long enough to make you angry or curious? Either one works for me.

The question is, have you ever or would you consider becoming a Chaplain with M.O.R.A.? If the answer is yes, or even maybe, would you please get back to me? This is a chance to work for God and help an old man like me.

Fast-forward to 2010, and the ride is still expanding, often faster than I can run, but that is not new to me and I thrive on the unknown, untested, and yes, at times, the unsafe. I suspect that this is really a racer’s view of a normal life, and it is normal. Anyone that lives other than this we consider strange, and they feel the same about us.

This journey I am referring to is my connection with Auto Racers For Kids Charities (ARK), and meeting a man by the name of Dave Stewart, from Erie, with this idea for raising money for needy kids without all the administrative costs. You know, real volunteers, doing real work, for no pay. What a concept! Before I forget, Dave is a financial advisor.

Now we needed someone from the racing side, and I volunteered Scott Bonnell without asking him first. Dave, being much like me, jumped on him like a bear on honey. Well let me tell you, we are a highly motivated and aggressive group, with all the people Dave has convinced to help with this cause.

We have raised many thousands of dollars for kids through many means, and all has been done without paying anyone. Sounds like the American spirit to me.

Scott Bonnell has helped get a race series off the ground this year with the hope of raising 100,000 dollars for kids, and no payroll. The second race of the series will be at Eriez Speedway on Thursday July 22 at 7 PM, and we are asking you to pass the word to help make this a success.

Some of you may know Scott was in a bad crash last Saturday in New York, but he will try to be in attendance at this event.

We are expecting 30 plus sprint cars for this event, with many name drivers. You will not be disappointed coming to this. The first race was at Sportsman’s Speedway in Knox, and we had 30 cars there.

Pappy Kerr has been moved from Hospice care to his son P J Kerr’s home where, at last report, Pappy was doing as well as could be expected. We are thankful for this good news; God is full of surprises .

Andy Lutz was in the hospital for some heart procedures but has returned home, and according to son Mike, is doing well. Another ‘Praise the Lord!’

Last but not least, Charlie Holben was released from the hospital as he continues to recover from the burns he suffered in a sprint crash at Lernerville.

The sprint car ranks have had many incidents this season, and for this reason I would ask each of you to take a moment to pray for these men and women that put their lives on the line every week for our enjoyment. That will be a better way of saying thank you.

Mark Cassela will be traveling to China to have surgery on his eye that was blinded in 1997 in a violent sprint car crash while racing with USAC. The procedure could restore his eyesight after all these years, and you could have a part. Wouldn’t that be wonderful to experience such a healing?

Mark’s long time friend, Terry Theiss, has started a program to help raise funds for Mark’s need. He will be going to China in September for 30 days and will need twenty-thousand dollars for the operation, plus air fare and living expenses for him and a traveling companion to care for him while he is recuperating.

While attending Tri-City Speedway one evenin, I began a conversation with a man about a relative of ours that was a very good Sprint car driver. The relative was J D Leas from Ohio; he drove in the Billy Casella era, and the man I was talking to was Mark Casella, the West Virgina Wild Man.

My one question turned into a longer talk about some serious needs Mark has. If you remember, he was injured in a bad crash years back, and lost the sight of one eye. As it happens, with the type of injury he has, there is a procedure that has the great possibility of restoring his eyesight. The only road block is that it is only done in two places: China or Germany, and he has no means to pay for it. He has tried to get help from USAC but was refused help because they are not sure it will work, and in his own words, “We wont know until we try.”

My question is this, do we have a responsibility to help? I cant answer for you, that is totally a personal decision that only you can answer for yourself. Mark said if he had his eyesight back he would probably drive again. My heart would like to help him resume a life he loved so much. There is a grass roots effort underway to help him realize his dream. I am going to help this effort and hope you will also.

Anyone interested, please contact me and I will try to assist. At the present time I am only asking for responses, not money. That will come later when we have an amount set for a goal. He gave me a figure, and it didn’t seem extreme when you consider restoring sight.

First and foremost, I ask you to pay for wisdom in this matter. We really need God’s wisdom and guidance.

And again I ask “Are we responsible for our fellow man’s welfare?”

Many of us have used the term my way or the hiway I have been experiencing the hiway part of life ,I can tell you the my way was in my eyes a lot more pleasing but the hiway has taught me muce more than my way.

If I were to tell you it has been all good my words would only be to make myself better than I am so it is my intent to tell the truth the bible tells us the truth sets us free and I dont want to be a slavet to man or circumstances so here it is.

My wife of 50 plus years and the most faithful and loving person you could imagine was suddenly the victim of a very serious health issue one that was not supposed to happen but never the less it did and she is the one feeling all the pain and suffering but as Paul Harvey says there s more I am the first to tell you she has endured more pain and hospital time than any would want but there is more.

I have been given the chance to prove my love for her not by buying her expensive gifts going on great vacations or any of the things that prove love through money,my gift has been in knowing She has been and will be taken care of in the same way God has taken care of me ,through serving her in any way she needs.

I have become Mr. mom and that is a role that I never saw in my manly job description but as sure as you were born right there in the fine print it reads like this husbands love your wife like Christ loves the Church ,I in no way want to imply this is a bad thing for me only that I only read the parts I liked and now are you ready The Rest of The Story.

The days of saying I am going to do this or go here or there on a whin are now not in my vocabulary ,this was my wife way of life for many years I dont mean to say I was abusive but I could rate 100% on inconsiderate .

Serving is a lot easier spoken than done it is my prayer that God will allow me to be a quick learner and Judy will be blessed buy my perceived incovenience when God only calls it a learning time ,I have come to cherish thos times past and how much and for so long Judy spoiled me you see she is a true servant and I needed to know how to be one also.

I need to get this posted Judy needs some attention and I have some washing to put in the dryer, a real husbands work is never done but always necessary in order to have a good marriage.

I am loving my wife like Christ loves the Church,

I sit here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon it is 4 oclock exactly as my Corvette clock sounds of to the sound of a 63 split window reving up. This is a sound I am vey familiar with it sounds a lot like my 57 fuel injection and brings back many memories,if you dont have good memories you have lived below the things God has planned for you,I will try to share my thoughts as intelegently as possible .

Over the last 8 months I have had to go back and draw on many good memories all the while experiencing many new both good and not so good new ones,this was and continues to be a totaly new part of my life.

It was Oct 20th 2009 and Judy and I were looking forward to a good experience that would allow us to expand our focus for this part of our life she would be pain free and be able to travel with me and we could enjoy a whole new life style ,although we are not wealthy or never have been we have lived within our means and had high hopes for some new adventures.

Florida for some races a little visiting of friends all of this seemed so easy because we were able in our own strength ,one small matter of a simple back surgery for Judy it would solve her pain and launch her to new places of  joy all of this woud only take about 3 days an she would be as good as new pain free and south bound (a medical statment we will never forget) oufortunate circumstances came into the picture and all the plans from above came to a halt like a blown motor on the last lap of a race we would however begin a new race.

Judy aquired a staph infection in her surgical procedure and for the next 8 months would be confined to 3 different hospitials and look death in the eye at least twice and also the possibility of being a cripple for the rest of her life we are at home now and still fighting for a normal life and maybe a chance to go south this winter.

We have learned a great deal about life and the fragile side of our plans also the loving hand ofGod and yes this comes by way of the hands of people that love you and those that dont even know who you are we thank God for all of you and want to return the love in some way as God makes a way.

So you ask why the title 8 months and counting well the reality is we still have a long way to go but with the prayers of so many and the love Jesus has for us will keep believing much the way those refered to as back markers in racing keep trying always putting hope above failure .we have not crossed the finish line yet but we can see the staryers stand and just like Todd Biechner gets ready to declare the winner one day we will have an on track interview with or heavenly father and we need to be sure we are legal and can go to victory lane ,in the next months we will face many uncertain days and will continue to trust God even when it is hard and so after 8 months to the day we are still trusting for that southern trip to still be a reality will you pray with us as you have already done so faithfully.

I am going to try to continue this story but right now I need to finish getting supper and pray as I do for TriCity and all those that will be racing tonight.

Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding .look this verse up and then live by it it will change your life it has mine and I am a hard head.

I could use many excuses for the lack of updates and most would be valid but the real reason is lack of commitment and that is not a good reason at all,many would come to my aid and for that I would be thankful unfortunately it would only allow me to fail even more.

If we really want to become better at anything we should be required to live up to our responsibility so in the future please keep me responsible you owe that to me and I will thank you even if it is not comfortable at the time.

Since my last post Judy has been moved to Greenville U.P.M.C. we are thankful for this move it has been a very good move and brought a great deal of improvement to her,the personnel at the hospital have been wonderful to say any more is not required ,IT IS A GREAT PLACE we thank God for his love .

Our hope is to be home soon and soon has not been defined yet so we continue to Trust God with all our needs ,in the mean time life goes on not the way we would like it at times and that is where the trust factor comes in the word of God tells us over and over to trust and if we cant learn by hearing then we must learn by experience if that is what we are learning please help me to be a quick learner.

Racing season is in high gear an I have an obligation to complete so I am asking for your prayer support like never before.

Trust and obey for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus.

A little less than a year ago when I heard of Jeffs cancer I visited at his home and in the process prayed with he and his wife and daughter to come to faith in JESUS after that I shared with Vicki Emig  she told me to invite Jeff and anyone he wanted to come along to the races at no cost to any of them and not just one night but as long as he wanted.

And now the rest of the story he came and thought it would be one of his last times at the races,he met Big Daddy Ray and was told to go to Pittsburgh for a second opinion Cleveland Clinic had told him he had no chance ,but God had another plan ,his trip to Pittsburgh produced the results I shared first and all because of on trip to see someone I had never met before.

Jeff has had multiple operations and many ups and down times but he is still here and gives all the credit to JESUS and I agree completely with him,but if were not for Vicki and her compassion and generosity he may never have talked to Big Daddy and who knows where he would be today.

I dont know where you are today you may be on top of the world or at the bottom of a pit it really doesn’t matter wherever you are JESUS is just a prayer away he is waiting for you to ask .

I am proud to be a part of the racing family I love and care about each of you and am willing to help in any way.

I have spent every day at sometime that day with her except one day when I could not get to Pittsburgh because of the snow,today I had planned to arrange my day so I could be at Lernerville for opening night,she wanted me to go said that is what my call is for ministry.

A call to the track early to check in and I was told the races were canceled so I spent the whole day at the hospitialwhile there and a talk with Vicki Emig my day for Saturday was filled I would make an early trip to Pittsburgh and leave soon enough to get home and pick up my truck so I could do what I have done at Mercer for the last 12 years weld and pray a very strange combination for some but not me this is who I am.

I look forward to another great year of service to the racing family and God it will be cold tomorrow but I wont mind God has given me the opportunity to serve him again and the best part is Judy encouraged me to continue this will be a long summer but we are looking to the day we both will be at the track.

Judy is really the strong one in the family and continues to demonstrate that strength each day her challenge now is to get strong so she will be able to walk this is being done with rehab and will continue for an undetermined time,we covet your prayers for her and if you have any extra time say some for me all will be greatly appreciated.

See you at the track and will be there to serve you as you need,so we can fulfill the call of God on our lives.
