Proposal story: After meeting at a Christmas party through mutual friends, Alex proposed a year later at the same Christmas party through a rigged white elephant gift.

“Alex is incredibly blunt in a good way, he is always making people think about a different side to something. He’s also really a sweetheart, who may or may not think he’s way funnier than he is.” -Ali

I absolutely loved getting to photograph these two. They were constantly making me laugh. We enjoyed exploring up and down the creaky staircases of Marathon Village and then headed outdoors onto the streets of Nashville with a tandem bike that was Ali’s parents.

Alex and Ali are getting married this August at the Bridge Building here in Nashville. I cannot wait to get to photograph their wedding!

You might remember this couple from their adorable summer Engagement Session with a Baseball-theme. Brooke and Caleb each went to college in Nashville and met through mutual family friends. Caleb proposed at the Botanical English Gardens in Maryland, where he flew up their families to join them. On their Winter Wedding day, Brooke was full of excitement, there were many tight hugs and a few tears. It was a joy to document this wedding with my friend Nhu, who is great at the behind-the-scenes shots like the emotional one of Brooke and her Dad before they came down the aisle. After the ceremony and celebrations, the couple was finally married. Caleb still plays baseball for the Orioles, but now Brooke gets to join him on the road.

Their wedding is this July at the Cathedral of Incarnation, with a reception at the University Club of Nashville. Thanks to their wonderful planner Helen Morisette for sending them my way! For their winter-wonderland engagement session we met at a local Christmas Tree lot and afterwards thawed out at a coffee shop down the street.

Jonathan and Laura met their Junior year of high school in TX, Laura got to be really close friends with Jonathan’s sister, and got to know his family that way. Some sparks flew on their Senior trip to LA, but they then went their separate ways to college. They got back in touch, tried dating long distance, and got back together again when Jonathan’s brother in-law was set on in. “Dating Jonathan has been the most fun and natural thing. The Lord has been so faithful in both of our lives and it was been amazing to see the work He did in both of us to bring us to this place today.”

“We got engaged on October 11, 2013 at Arrington Vineyards. After months of lies and secrets, Jonathan had my family and his flown in to be a part of the big day. — When we arrived, my dad was waiting for me and walked me up to where Jonathan was waiting. I knew what was going on once I saw my dad, but could not wrap my head around all of it. Jonathan had typed a letter that he read to me. I was humbled by the words that he used to describe me and how he promised to love and care for me like Christ loves us. He had a blanket with our names on it and the ring waiting. He got down on one knee and proposed. Our family and close friends were waiting near by and some were hidden in the vines getting pictures of the whole thing.”

“Jonathan and I have built our relationship upon our faith in Jesus. I would hope our wedding would capture the love we have for Him as well as for each other and our friends that share in our union! The three adjectives that I would want to describe our wedding are Joyfulness, Love, and Freedom.”

“For our hobbies, we both love to be moving! I am a runner and he loves playing flag football any night a group of guys are available. We are also dog fans and have recently been quite involved in raising a puppy (he proposed with a puppy and a ring around its collar!)! I love cooking and reading as well while he enjoys learning about businesses and watching sports.”

This sample is my personal wedding album. Cali of Nyk + Cali and Kristin Sweeting together photographed my wedding and did a beautiful job. I only wish I had ordered my wedding album sooner, but I was waiting to find the perfect album company. For this wedding I got to travel to Wilmington, NC where my husband and his family are from. When Brett and I started dating, we would visit Wilmington frequently, and I got to know not only his awesome family but also their family friends. When you get married you are blessed with more people to call family, and for that I am thankful! Katie’s (the bride) family are long time friends with my in-laws. I was incredibly honored when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. Katie and Ben were fully present on their wedding day, full of emotion and joy, savoring the people that were there to celebrate with them, and it was a privilege to witness and document.

Fast forward to 2013, here’s a snippet from Carolyn’s story of the proposal.

“All of a sudden as we’re approaching the First United Methodist Church (his family’s church) I noticed there were some flowers in a vase on the steps. My first thought was that someone had put them there in memory of a loved one but as we passed all of sudden Caldwell stops and says “Oh, what’s that?” and at that moment I knew. He then proceeded to almost push me on to the steps and said “you should read that” where a card and the flowers were waiting. I opened the card which read “Will you marry me?” and turned around and he was on one knee! All of a sudden he tells me to look across the street and I see his little sister had captured it all on camera and then around the corner comes both our families. We had dinner at Cork and Cow to celebrate.”

“Our favorite thing to do is go back to Ole Miss and spend time in The Grove for football games with our friends and family. When we do get some free time we like to spend it with our friends cooking out, or hanging at home with our awesome dog Koda. We really love to find great restaurants with a cool atmosphere and a great wine list.”

Caldwell and Carolyn are getting married October 2014 in Nashville.
