The main photo above is the historic Zion Gate which Cara enters on her way to the Jewish Quarter.

Below on the left is the Western Wall, also known as the Wailing Wall. It’s the only remaining wall of the Jewish Second Temple which was destroyed by the Romans in the first century. (70 CE)

The Jewish Quarter is… well the Jewish Quarter, which was rebuilt after being destroyed and is the neighbourhood near the Western Wall. It is the home of the (mythical) Jewish Mystical Society which features heavily in the present day timeline. The neighbourhood also features in the Judean timeline and was near the Temple. I learnt that in those days, the Jerusalem neighbourhoods were called Lower and Upper City. The poorer Jews lived in Lower City, and the grandees, priests and aristocrats lived in Upper City.

In The Covenant you’ll meet the past versions of Twin Flames: Cara and George Cavendish, and discover which neighbourhood they lived in and who they were two thousand years ago!

I was excited to discover this novel as it was the first one I’ve found that features multiple timelines in the way I do in the Twin Flames series. (Most time travel romance seems to be more of a time-slip style with present day and just one historical timeline.

I enjoyed this novel by Constance Sayers and will definitely read her next one, The Ladies of the Secret Circus, when I come up for air from writing The Runner. I found A Witch in Time was darker and much sadder than the time travel romance and historical fiction I typically read, but it kept me engrossed and is well written. If you like a dark and witchy, not so happy ever after ending then you’ll love this and I highly recommend.

Twin Flames was inspired by my love of the mystical, and I weaved the twin flame phenomenon into a time travel romance story set in the present day and Tudor timeline, which is my favourite historical period.

In The Uprising George and Cara venture into a third timeline called Victoriana and readers enjoy the fast pace of the steamy time travel romance and the interlinking adventures.

My goal wasn’t to copy Outlander (Twin Flames is set in York and London and is a completely different storyline) but Outlander readers tell me they love my twist on time travel romance.

I did lots of research because The Uprising uses important events such as The Pilgrimage of Grace (the great Tudor Uprising) and The Chartist Rebellion in ‘Victoriana’, as the backdrop.

I’ve weaved Cara and George’s adventures and developing Twin Flame love story around those events and Book Two picks up one year after the end of Book One in present-day York.

We’ve got a new character who kept trying to elbow his way into the story and who surprised even me as I hadn’t planned his arrival, but he ended up playing a key role!

One of the wonderful things about being a fiction writer is that you never quite know who’s going to show up and demand a spot in the story.

Without giving spoilers, I can reveal this new character has risen up from Cara and George’s past to wreak karmic revenge.

At the time of writing this blog, I’m enjoying working on the second draft, which for me consists of a combination of rewriting, editing, checking research, and generally smoothing out the story. The Uprising is set in multiple timelines which will be familiar to you if you read Book 1 (Tudorville, Victoriana and the Present Day) but there are also multiple twists which I think you’ll love.

Will Cara and George vanquish the dark karmic forces rising up across time to rewrite history and destroy their Twin Flame destiny?
