New Art: Teach, Play, Love

This is a new series for a nursery collection. It’s a continuation from my baby animal sketches. Although I love to do art that appeals to my boys and their growing maturity, I will always hold a special love in creating art for babies.

These prints would make a very sweet mother’s day gift but as most of you know, my Etsy store is closed for our overseas move. I thought it might be good to mention though, that you can currently buy canvas prints of my art from CCArt. A lot of the canvases also offer personalized versions. I’ve included some links in my sidebar to purchase my art on various sites. I’m excited to announce that I’ll soon be offering brand new rubber stamps, crafting supplies, embroidery patterns, and tech covers. Be sure to stay tuned to my blog for their release dates!

Animals of the World

I’ve had this project on my to-do list for quite some time. I was inspired to finish it thanks to a client who requested a world map :) I played with a bit of texture on my illustrations for this piece. I wanted the whole thing to look a bit painterly. What do you think? I’m also open to suggestions for the title. I’d be happy to hear your ideas!

We have some beautiful fall weather over here but I know many of my friends in Canada are anxiously awaiting spring. Here are some happy spring flowers to welcome the warmer weather. I designed these to coordinate with my ‘dreaming in colour’ series. I’m working on bringing these elements together for a baby’s nursery collection.

I want to thank everyone for all the support regarding my last post. It means a lot that so many of you back me up. I will certainly be monitoring the situation so I can decide how to move forward.

Putting that aside, let’s focus on something fun! This little girl is full of colour and will hopefully become part of the inspiration behind a theme for nursery bedroom collection. I have a few colourful elements to go along with this theme that I’ll post once completed. Love to hear your thoughts!

Imitation: Not Always Best Form of Flattery

It’s come to my attention that my brand, my style (that I’ve worked so hard to make uniquely mine and be recognized for) has been copied by another illustrator. She’s been participating in Illustration Friday, blogging and has a FB biz page. I’ve had one email conversation with her expressing my concerns and she replied apologetically and said I’ve been an inspiration to her work (well, obviously!), but emails since has fallen on deaf ears. I’m concerned this could be damaging to my brand. Any advice?

New Art: Rainbow Raindrops

My eldest son loves all the colours of the rainbow right now. He collects anything and everything that has all the colours found in the rainbow. He recently rejected some wooden bees that were a part of his collection because he lost the blue one…all colours MUST be there! This collection is serious business :) He’s the inspiration behind my latest collection. I’m working on adding some more colourful pieces to my portfolio so I can keep things diverse. Happy 2nd Birthday to my Sweet Little Boy!

My baby turns 2 today!

Dear Elijah,

A lot has happened in these past two years and all of a sudden I look at you and you’re a little boy. You are too sweet for words, clever, funny, and quite cheeky when you want to be! You have such a great personality and I know you will be well loved in this world. You love animals, especially dogs. Daddy doesn’t know this but I’m thinking we might just have to get you a puppy for your birthday one of these years! You are certainly a boy’s boy as you love to play with trucks, pirates, and love to get dirty. But you have a wonderfully soft side where you just want to be held and snuggle with your mommy :) I didn’t think it was possible but you are actually a pickier eater than your brother! You love your meat and carbs but rarely want to touch any fruits or veggies. You are the reason I spend about a half hour every morning making fresh juice so you can get all those important vitamins! You are stubborn and independent and want to be just like your brother. Each day, when we drop him off at school, you tell me you miss him and want to go back to get him. I love that you look up to him so much. He is a great big brother! One of my biggest prayers is that you two are the best of friends and are always there for each other. It’s a big world out there, and to have a loving brother to support you, is priceless.

We love you so much and are so happy that you are a part of our family. I am so excited to watch you grow and interact with your world. You are wonderfully loved!

New Art: Two Boys, One Paper Airplane

This illustration is dedicated to my two little ones. Isaac is in the front and Elijah is in the back. The boys have been obsessed with paper airplanes lately, especially Elijah. If you show him a piece of paper, he’ll have a couple goes at folding it and give it to his daddy as he asks for a ‘paper airpwane’. I am getting excited about decorating our new home and I made this piece for our new playroom. I am working with this colour scheme and wanted to update some of the art I’ve been hanging in our home. I’d love to hear what you think!

As with most of my new art, I’m looking to create a ‘collection’ with each piece for potential licensing opportunities. And just as a note, I’ve had to start watermarking my work more obviously as I’ve been dealing with a lot of people ‘stealing’ my work online. I am working on a post about this soon. It’s an important issue and I would love to get some feedback from other artists.

Oh, and a little someone is turning 2 tomorrow… will post more soon :)
