Here's our lesson plan for making sure that your back-to-school experience is as sustainable as it is educational:• Lowering your back-to-school consumption will pay off both economically and ecologically. Consider just how much new stuff you really need to buy. Chances are it's less than you think! Look around your home to see what can be reused, re purposed, and recycled from older siblings.• Consider buying quality used clothing instead of brand new items.• For finding recycling and reuse ideas, New American Dream offers a useful back to School Reality Check and a separate Quiz that can help you reassess your needs.•
New or used, beware of products made from soft vinyl plastics (a.k.a. PVC), including notebooks, pencil cases, backpacks, and lunch boxes. Vinyl manufacturing is one of the world's most toxic enterprises and PVC can contain lead and/or phthalates that leach out to harm our kids' health. Choose natural materials instead. You can also consult The Center for Health, Environment, and Justice's new Guide to PVC-Free School Supplies.• Test for lead in lunch boxes. Homax Lead Check, Lead Check Household Lead Test Kit, and Lead Inspector are reliable options for finding out whether lunch boxes and other items contain lead.• Another contaminant to watch out for is bisphenol-A, or BPA, which is used to manufacture popular #7 polycarbonate plastic water bottles. BPA can leach out of materials that contain it and is a potent endocrine disruptor.
Bottle your child's daily beverage supply in stainless steel water bottles to keep the BPA away.• When shopping for school supplies, avoid disposable products and look for sustainable options like refillable pens, rechargeable batteries, dispenser-less tape refills, and similar items.• Choose products that use the least amount of packaging.• Buy in bulk whenever you can. The price per piece is almost always lower, and you'll save on packaging and prevent multiple trips back to the store.By taking these ideas to school, you'll be teaching your kids to be smart caretakers of their health and good stewards of the world they'll inherit. And that's a lesson that we think everyone should learn!
Back to School Guide | Seventh Generation

Blogged with the Flock Browser

Benefits of using a SHOWER FILTER!

.Using a shower filter is one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce harmful exposure to chlorine and other chemicals.2. Showering in filtered water results in greater respiratory health by reducing the risk of asthma and bronchitis from chlorine inhalation.3. Showering in chlorine-free, filtered water decreases the risks of bladder and breast cancer.4. Children, who are particularly at risk of the harmful effects of chlorine inhalation, benefit especially from the removal of chlorine from showering water.5. As chlorine is a leading cause of fatigue, showering in filtered, chlorine-free water results in higher energy levels and overall greater health.6. Removing chlorine from showering water results in better air quality throughout the house.7. Without the drying effects of chlorine, skin becomes softer, healthier, and younger looking.8. Removing chlorine from showering water reduces the presence of skin rashes and the appearance of wrinkles.9. Because the hair is able to preserve its natural moisturizing oils, it becomes softer and healthier when chlorine is removed from showering water.10. When the body is able to retain its natural moisturizers, the need for costly lotions and moisturizers is greatly reduced.
WELCOME to DERMA HAIR CARE LLC ::.

Blogged with the Flock Browser

Chlorine in our drinking water!!!

A few words about CHLORINE!

Chlorine is universally recognized and used as an effective chemical for purifying water. Water companies use chlorine because of its effectiveness in killing microorganisms. Chlorine attacks organic matter, making it a potent bleaching agent. Almost every home uses common household bleach in their laundry.Chlorine is also very hazardous. Even when diluted, it must be used with care. Read the label on any bottle of household bleach. If chlorine works so well in killing bacteria and bleaching and oxidizing organic food stains, what does it do to our skin, eyes, and lungs?Chlorine plays havoc with our skin and hair because it chemically bonds with the protein in our bodies. It makes hair brittle and dry; it can make sensitive skin dry; flaky; and itchy. It makes good sense to remove chlorine from drinking water. It is just as logical to remove it from our showers. Many authorities feel that we take in more chlorine from one shower than from drinking the same water in one day.Medical science considers the human skin surface as the largest body organ, weighing about 12 pounds for the average adult. It would not seem any wiser to expose that much skin to a chemical disinfectant like chlorine, than it would be to drink it.
WELCOME to DERMA HAIR CARE LLC ::.

Blogged with the Flock Browser

infants and formula

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibJHkWoumOjNYhv92niTvI76kHMCQo4XvSCMs0QVzr0PY8uJjmdn0i_aGZ-E4o95obouOmUF8DT_XRozCHP-27Rj_NES9dYGEuPx3_8um7PW_bz2Rs3j67ZNtZRKcUN4wgHcNukaSVmTD2/s320/Image8_Issue7+2008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5230105898407498114" />
The deadly influence of baby formula in America

Breastfeeding is growing in popularity and this groundbreaking analysis from noted author, health educator and advocate Dr. Linda Folden Palmer may be a rude awakening for the millions of Americans who still buy into the myth that infant formula is a safe breast milk substitute. A week into my nursing adventure I came down with my first bout of mastitis.(little did I know it wouldn't be my last) I ended up in the hospital with 103.00 fever and very sore nipples. I continued to nurse my daughter through the mastitis, and when I had recovered from it, I had decided to stop nursing. It had kinda traumatized me. At the time I didn't have much help with nursing nor did I know much about breastfeeding in general.(if I knew then what I know now I would have never stopped breastfeeding Ella.) So with that said, my daughter ended up on Hypoallergenic formula. I ended up swearing that when I do have another child I will be determined to Breastfeed no matter what! On Dec 2005 I found out that I was pregnant with my second child. A week before my son Avery was born I got mastitis, Yes I am the only one on the face of the earth who gets it while being pregnant. You would think that would be a clear warning sign. So on August 17, my son was born, and I decided to breastfeed him. He was a very lazy nurser and barely nursed the first two days of his life. Then finally after a couple weeks of nursing we both finally got the hang of it!!! Yes I made it through my first month of nursing and we both couldn't of been happier. To make a long story as short as I can make it, My son is now 17 months old and yes I am still breastfeeding. It has been so wonderful, and so challenging all at the same time. I have had 5 bouts of mastitis and have survived every time. You would think that I would of stopped nursing, but its much easier said then done. I absolutely love nursing my son, I do get a lot of comments from people and family asking me why I am still nursing my son, that he is to old and that he doesn't need it anymore. I just say well ya know, he loves it and I don't see him wanting to stop any time soon, and I leave it at that.

I just want all of the mothers out there to know that it is not wrong to nurse your baby past 12 months. It is completely normal and extremely healthy for your baby.
There is also a lot of information out there for woman who have questions about nursing and who need support. I will be taking a Breastfeeding counselor course in January with the Nursing Mothers Alliance in Malvern. I am very excited about that.
Hope you enjoyed reading my blog. I better get to bed before my son wakes up.

Chemicals In Cotton Fabrics.

Today I want to talk about the chemicals in our cotton. (our cloths, sheets and other fabrics) Ordinary cotton is treated with a variety of chemicals as it goes through the processes from plant to fabric, and residues remain even after washing. THIS IS SCARY!!! The chemicals used are as follows: Synthetic chemical pesticides and fertilizers that may be highly toxic and cause environmental problems. Herbicides are used to defoliate and make picking the cotton easier. Chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, APE O (a hormone disrupter) EDT A (binds with heavy metals in rivers and streams and activates them), and volatile organic compounds that react with sunlight to form ground-level ozone. this sounds cozy doesn't it??

On the other hand Organic Cotton is grown much differently. Organic matter fertilizes soil and renews soil productivity; less water used. It is hand picked (no defoliation, machinery, or chemicals); hand picking means less waste. Natural spinning oils biodegradable easily; natural processing such as potato starch is used. There is no chlorine used. Only natural vegetable dyes or low-impact synthetic dyes used,or cotton is color grown. Now that sounds much better to me!! So I'm not sure how a lot of people feel, but that definetly makes me wonder at night while I am lying in bed. wondering which types of chemicals I am coming into contact with while laying on my bed sheets..... Sweet Dreams. I will post some sites to visit that sell organic cotton bed sheets cloths, and other fabrics.

Information on this page was contained from: www.greenliving.com

ww.greenshopper.com
www.sagebaby.com

Campaign For Safe Cosmetics: Cannes ad

Campaign For Safe Cosmetics: Cannes ad

working on my website

Hi everyone, I am currently working on my new company website, Booby Juice Baby Organics. I am creating my website to help empower woman who decided to breastfeed,to inform people of the hazardous chemicals in bath and body products, and to give some of my insight on things. I also hope to encourage people to buy safe healthy and organic products. I Offer a product line called Earth Mama Angel Baby, which is a line for woman and babies that is 100% certified organic, non toxic all natural products. I absolutely love these products and I use them on myself and my children. Let me know if anyone has any feedback on that product line. I will be doing more research myself. I also want to include an advice column on my site eventually to give and get advice from woman who are nursing or wanting to ask about any type of information.

breastfeeding a toddler

society should read this

clipped from www.natural-baby.com.au

As any mother will tell you, babies grow up so quickly. Also i will want to eventually sell only organic cloths and baby body products. I really want to educate people on eating organic and using organic and natural products. I also really want to educate moms of the benefits of breastfeeding, and how important it is to use natural products and give your breast milk. So many kids these days, have stomach problems, and skin rashes. and moms are constantly stumped at why this is happening to their child and what they can do to change it. what they don't think to realize is that formula is NOT MEANT FOR YOUR BABY!!! Breast milk is. And a lot of the products that we put on our children have very harmful chemicals in them, and we are putting them on our children's bodies!!!!! I want to start to educate people what these chemicals are, and what products to use as an alternative.

simply baby

so im going to talk a little bit about the company that i work for. I have a one year old son, a 3 year old daughter and a 9 year old step son. I am slowly learning about working from home and entrepreneurship. I hope to some day work from home and own my own business of some sort. ( that seems to be everyones dream lately) Ive been working with this guy and trying to promote his online business. So im hoping blogging about it will help. Hopefully i will get good at this blogging thing and people will actually read and comment about what i write.
