Students are nominated by teachers in light of the 2011-12 school year theme, “Be Strong and Courageous.” Teachers say, “Neko is a hard-working student who demonstrates leadership in everything he does. He balances a difficult course load, athletics, and involvement in a variety of clubs and activities - including National Honor Society and Student Ambassadors.

Racine Lutheran Sets Sights on Science

Racine Lutheran High has set sights on expanding its science program. The school recently added new equipment, due to the generosity of a school supporter. The science department received seven five-objective binocular microscopes - with five lenses for different levels of magnification and two eyepieces for easily viewing specimens. Students can magnify a sample from 40 to 1,000 times its natural size, for optimal study.

RLHS Cheerleaders Receive Awards

The Racine Lutheran High cheerleading squad recently participated in UCA Cheer Camp at UW-Milwaukee. The squad received one red ribbon, ten blue ribbons, two 2nd place trophies, and one gold superior overall ribbon. Coaches are Lynn Miehle and ShaiAnn Howard. Principal Randy Baganz notes, “These are well-deserved rewards for hard work. Congratulations to our cheerleaders, who invest extra effort during the summer months to train for the coming sports season. Special thanks to our coaches for always encouraging students to excel and grow in Christian sportsmanship.”

Racine Lutheran High School held its Class of 2011 graduation exercises on May 20, with Jess Flick as valedictorian and Jonathan Lambert as salutatorian. “Our students traditionally have high academic achievement,” says Principal Randy Baganz. “An outstanding 81% of this year’s graduates were Honor Roll students, with 64% of the senior class on the High Honor Roll (3.5+ GPA).

Each year, students choose a special Interim experience that encourages curiosity and outside-the-box learning. This year’s roster features 14 choices for students.

Racine Lutheran High School invites area 8th graders to Shadow a Student in the coming month. “We are declaring March "Shadow a Student Month‟ at Racine Lutheran,” says Principal Randy Baganz. “We average ten students per week coming to spend a day at high school with one of our Student Ambassadors. We would like to double this number during March, as it‟s time to enroll now for the freshman year!” Students moving to Racine or considering a change from other high schools are also invited to shadow. Parents can tour the school the same day. Shadowing allows students to experience a day in the life of the school. They see the safe, clean facility; attend classes with caring Christian teachers; have a free lunch with students; tour the Trinklein Learning Center; see technology in use during classes; and also attend music, art, and physical education classes. “Parents are assured the students are never alone,” says Baganz. “We pair each visitor with a Student Ambassador with similar interests. Our Ambassadors are selected for their gifts of hospitality and Christian leadership. They are trained to guide our visitors through their day at high school. Eighth graders especially find this helps them and their families feel comfortable making the right high school decision.”

And so starts Any Number Can Die by Fred Carmichael. Set on a lonely island off the coast of South Carolina, the will of Cedric Russell is to be read at midnight. There's a storm raging and no escape. No one is who they say they are. Secrets abound as two amateur detectives try to solve this masterful “who done it” before it's too late. It's the perfect set-up for murder and a great time!

“People Make the Difference.” We have used this phrase in our school materials, and I want to thank a large group of people who recently made a huge difference for our school. Last Saturday, we had 299 people at the Racine Lutheran Gala, which is our big annual celebration and fundraising event. This was more than double the number attending last year! Teachers and staff were there, plus church members, parents of students, neighbors, business people, community leaders, and many people we met for the very first time. “Thank you” to each and every one!

Racine Lutheran High School invites the community to a special Christmas Concert on Friday, December 10, at 7:00 P.M. in the school gym. The concert is called "Come Let Us Adore Him" and is in the format of Lessons and Carols. It will feature the Concert Band, Concert Choir, and Handbells, all under the direction of Tim Gullicksrud. Concert Bands from Concordia Lutheran, St. John's Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran, and Racine Christian Elementary Schools will also take part in the Concert. Audience members will be invited to join in singing traditional Christmas Carols and Handel's “Hallelujah Chorus.”
