SEPANG, May 24, 2010: Japan’s biggest and hottest racing series, the Super GT International Series will be making a return to the Sepang International Circuit from June 18 to 20.

SIC will play host to Round 4 of the racing series, and the 2010 Super GT International Series will mark the 10th anniversary of the event being held at the circuit. The race series has come a long way since it was first held at the circuit in June 2000.

“Malaysia is the only country to host the Super GT outside of Japan. When it first came to Malaysia, it was a purely Japanese race series, it was only followed by Japanese race fans and had Japanese sponsors,” said SIC CEO Razlan Razali.

“Now we have a significant number of Super GT followers in Malaysia, and there are many non-Japanese drivers taking part in the race. We also have two Malaysian corporations being part of the two top teams in Super GT, namely Mutiara Motors in GT300 and Petronas TOM in GT 500,” he said.

The Super GT International race series is held annually and takes place on renowned Japanese tracks such as Motegi, Fuji Speedway and the Suzuka Circuit. It has long been known among motorsports fans as a powerful combination of dazzling mean machines and their beauty queens.

The series was first brought to Malaysia in 2000, with cars divided into two different groups; GT500 and GT300 (based on the car’s horsepower). This year, 13 cars and 26 drivers will be battling for the championship title in the GT500 category, while 19 cars with 38 drivers will be competing in the GT300 category.

The 2010 Super GT International Series would also be featuring the new GT4 Asia Cup, the GT3 Asia Series, Yaris/Vios Experience Race in Sepang as well as the environmentally-friendly Scirocco Cup as the support races.

In conjunction with the race event, SIC will be organizing the children’s pit walkabout on Saturday, June 19 at 5.30 pm. The event will also feature the exciting circuit safari, where fans will get a closer look at the race as they are transported via a low-loader bus onto the track during the Super GT practice session.

Tickets for the Main Grandstand are priced at RM100 and tickets for K1 area are priced at RM70. Tickets for the circuit safari are priced at RM100, while parking charges are priced at RM5 for cars and RM2 for bikes (per entry).

Aside from the children’s walkabout, there are also numerous activities for children where they can meet with popular cartoon character Upin and Ipin, face painting and origami.

There will also be a charity car wash session at the circuit during the race weekend.
SIC will also be organizing a contest where fans will be able to win themselves GTR safety car rides, pit passes and circuit safari rides. To qualify, they will have to purchase a minimum of two tickets, answer three simple questions and complete a slogan.

DRY RACE EXPECTED FOR MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX

Unlike last year, the 2010 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix in Sepang this Sunday will be contested on a dry track – at least according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

No rain is expected throughout the day on 10.10.10 – from morning to night – with temperatures expected to be between 25 degrees to 33 degrees that day.

Similarly, for the qualifying session on Saturday with no rain expected; though morning is expected to be cloudy. No rain is also expected for Friday; promising the fans plenty of sunshine and an enjoyable experience.

vance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix event director, Razlan Razali welcomed the news; but was quick to add that Malaysian weather can be unpredictable and sometimes even notorious.

“It’s good for the fans if it does not rain. But, I would like to advise fans to take a lot of water and prepare themselves with sun block cream in case it gets too hot. Wear head covers especially the kids. It’s always good to have earplugs ready as well in case it gets too loud.

“For food, fans will be spoilt for choice with prominent restaurant chains like KFC, Ayamas, Pizza Hut, A&W, Serai Sate, Gloria Jane, Secret Recipe and Desert Bar all having their outlets at the circuit,” said Razlan, adding that there would be an abundance of choice for souvenirs and merchandise items.

While both the 125cc and 250cc races ran on a dry track, the MotoGP battle was a wet race following heavy rain before the start and continuous drizzle throughout the 20-lap battle which saw Casey Stoner winning comfortably ahead of Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi. The 250cc race was won by Japan’s Hiroshi Aoyama while Julian Simone of Spain took top honours in the Malaysian GP last year.

The third placing and 16 additional points secured Rossi’s ninth world title and his seventh in the premier class as more than 59,000 fans joined in the celebrations to honour the hugely popular Fiat Yamaha rider.

2010, however, would be a different picture as it would be his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo orchestrating his own kind of celebrations. Currently holding a 69-point lead over second placed Pedrosa, Lorenzo merely needed six points to seal his first MotoGP world crown.

But, even before that, fans could already be treated with another celebration party as Tony Elias, who holds an 81-point advantage over second-placed Simone in the newly-introduced Moto2 world championship, looked certain to be crowned as the world first Moto2 champion.

Rain or shine, it’s going to be one fantastic celebration party in Sepang.

Today is a tiring day but productive day LOL...attended SIC Super GT international Series, Malaysia. I traveled from PJ back to Seremban, met my photo buddy and head to Sepang, settled the pass and went straight to the pitwalk.

It was so crowded with photogsss....everyone are 'rushing' to snap a good shoot with the race queen! Photos will be uploaded by tomorrow then....
