Toronto’s Grand Dame The Fairmont Royal York pays tribute to raw, vegan and macrobiotic mothers with its annual Mother’s Day Brunch at EPIC Restaurant, located on the lobby level of The Fairmont Royal York.

Lifestyle eatings and seatings are on Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

In addition, if moms are looking to be pampered with a night away from home on either Saturday, May 12th or Sunday May 13th, EPIC offers a Mother’s Stay Rate of $129 at The Fairmont Royal York hotel (subject to availability in 2012 and exclusive of taxes).

This year, Chef Tim Palmer’s Mothers Day Brunch in EPIC comes on the heels of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts recently announced Lifestyle Cuisine Plus, a new menu available upon request catering to guests with specific diet-dependent conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and gluten free, as well as unique dietary preferences including, macrobiotic, raw and vegan diets.

Moms with specific dietary requests often have to forfeit flavor and choice for their health, but not at EPIC Restaurant this Mother’s Day.

EPIC servers will treat mom royally as EPIC’s culinary brigade continues to support the hotel’s commitment to using organically grown and locally sourced products wherever possible.

Highlights on the menu include roasted Lake Huron whitefish, pork, naturally raised turkey and veal loin from Ontario.

Some of the more decadent raw items include East Coast Oysters and a build your own salad bar.

Over ten dessert options are to be found inside EPIC’s dessert showcase room. Several, using the richest of ingredients and the real cream goodness of dairy, sit side by side with sliced fresh fruit, berries and a variety of tasty wellness elixirs of honey, ginger and carrot.

A selection of Fairmont wellness teas by the Metropolitan Tea Company serve to round out the culinary desires, featuring: Energy, Tranquility, Digestif, Equilibrium and High Antioxidant — as unique as every Mother can be.

EPIC’s Mother’s Day Brunch is $79 per person, $39 for children ages 5-12 and children under 5 eat free.

Prices include valet parking with seating on Sunday, May 13th at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm.

On April 13, 2012, in the spirit of highlighting Canada and the world’s most vibrant garden experiences and Garden Tourism’s limitless potential, the Canadian Garden Tourism Council, in consultation with a Canadian and international jury network, was proud to announce the Rooftop Garden of The Fairmont Royal York hotel, Toronto, as a 2012 winner at the Garden Tourism Awards. The hotel’s fourteenth floor roofgarden and apiary took the top award in the winning category: “Canadian Garden Tourism Initiative of the Year.”

The award was presented at the Annual Canadian and International Garden Tourism Awards Luncheon, sponsored by VIA Rail Canada and hosted by VanDusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Garden Tourism Awards are presented to organizations and individuals who have distinguished themselves in the development and promotion of the garden experience as a tourism attraction.

“Gardens are among Canada’s premier tourism destinations, offering unique experiences and attracting visitors from our core and emerging markets,” said Michele McKenzie, President & CEO of the Canadian Tourism Commission as she presented today’s Awards.

Dave Cowen, Chair of the B.C. Garden Tourism Coalition, and General Manager of Butchart Gardens closed the event saying, “Given the enormous number of Canadian and American travellers – almost 14 million annually, as quoted in the latest TAMS report — who include visiting Canadian gardens among the top ten things they want to do while on a holiday, it has been a pleasure to recognize Canada and the world’s many and varied garden experiences as vibrant tourism products.”

The inaugural Garden Tourism Awards were presented at the 2011 Garden Tourism Conference held in Toronto.

Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York hotel will turn off its lights and light more than a thousand candles in support of the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF), annual Earth Hour.

Guests will have the opportunity to partake in this global initiative by participating in the hotel’s “green” inspired activities when the lights go out for 60 minutes beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012.

Earth Hour is a global event created by the WWF to help raise awareness and assemble millions of people to take action on climate change. In 2008, The Fairmont Royal York was the first hotel in Toronto to register its Earth Hour participation. On Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 8:30 p.m., all 60 of Fairmont’s world-class hotels around the planet will participate by turning off their lights for one hour. The event will mark the unification of The Fairmont Royal York hotel with an expected 30 million people worldwide in over 4000 cities.

At 8:30 p.m. The Fairmont Royal York’s neon rooftop sign will go dark, signalling the hotel’s “Green Team” to power down the exterior awning and canopy lights in unison with millions of Earth Hour participants worldwide. Inside the hotel, the volunteer team of over 30 eco-minded colleagues will light candelabras and hundreds of tea lights are to be placed throughout the lobby and pool area of the hotel for Earth Hour.

Guests at the hotel’s health club will experience relaxation in a different light: with the whirlpool and swimming pool illuminated by the glow of surrounding candles. The special candlelight swim is offered exclusively to hotel guests from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Guests are also encouraged to participate in the environmental activities by turning the lights out in their rooms by way of a WWF bookmark accompanying their key cards and at the evening “turndown.”

Guests residing in the GTA, as well as Hamilton, Kitchener, Waterloo, Barrie and Oshawa area who want to turn an earth hour into a full night may take advantage of the hotel’s Earth Hour rate exclusive offer. This rate includes a one night accommodation in a Fairmont guestroom starting from $119 CAD per night (exclusive of taxes and gratuities). The Earth Hour locals rate requires a non-refundable one night deposit and is only available on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Proof of GTA or above noted regional residency must be provided at check-in. For reservations please contact 1-800-441-1414.

Sample a dozen different tartars (meat, seafood or vegetable) and the wines to match. Vote on your favourites and see if they are in line with our panel of culinary experts and celebrity judges. See if your palate is in sync with our team of sommeliers who will determine the best wine matches. And, because we can’t live on tartare alone there will be other food to enjoy – frites and Asian hors d’oeuvres and sweets.
