Compassion in World Farming - CIWF

2014-03-30T22:12:00.000+01:00

CEO Philip Lymbery of The Compassion in World Farming, (whose patron is Joanna Lumley), joined me to highlight the incredible work this charity is doing, to change the way Farming and the transport of live stock takes place in this country.
This charity was established in 1967 has overcome incredible odds - to ensure animals raised for consumption are being treated in a more humane way - and this year saw a landmark when the EU agreed to ban barren battery cages for laying hens from 2012.

There is still much more to achieve - and I was appalled when I heard the average chicken's life is just 6 WEEKS! not to mention what the breeders feed it with ...

PLEASE SHARE THIS - IF YOU CARE, ABOUT ANIMAL WELFARE AND YOUR HEALTH

Ashlyn and Energy - out takes ! :)

2014-01-28T00:52:00.000+00:00

LISTEN HERE TO THE FUNNY SHOW SNIPPET!

What does chocolate, Ashlyn and re-cycling have in common? listen above to Energy's inventive idea to SAVE THE PLANET !

Elizabeth DeRobertis, RD, director of the Nutrition Center at Scarsdale Medical Group, agrees.

“There is credible evidence chocolate contains a host of heart-healthy and mood-enhancing phytochemicals with benefits to both body and mind,” she says, though the effects are more potent for dark chocolate.

That’s right, chocolate triggers the release of pleasurable endorphins, like dopamine, phene-
thylamine, and anandamide.

It also boosts brain levels of serotonin, creating both a calming and mood-boosting effect. Plus, if you’re looking for a little pick-me-up, chocolate contains a form of caffeine called theobromine, which is healthier than the caffeine found in coffee. "

No wonder the lady always loves....so the advert went!

Bob Wilson OBE about the Willow Foundation

2013-08-02T23:34:00.000+01:00

The was a rare opportunity to talk with the former famous Arsenal Footballer and BBC Sports Presenter - Bob Wilson, OBE about the Willow Foundation Charity - although we did squeeze a few minutes at the end where he gives his own 'tips'. This was a very moving interview where he talks about the story of it's formation and its accomplishments, now celebrating 10 years.

Simon Paul Sutton

2013-07-11T16:14:00.000+01:00

Yes it's a strange title for an interview - I was joined by Simon Paul Sutton who spoke with open honesty about this struggle to 'find himself' after a troubled youth and how the key to 'peace and love' is within each one of us - and not to be found by 'mastering the art of distraction' of things OUTSIDE of ourselves...he had the courage to look within and find freedom...

An engaging interview that will hopefully inspire anyone who is struggling to find contentment in their lives.

Professor Mark Connelly

2012-12-19T17:23:00.001+00:00

To celebrate Universal’s 100th Anniversary and their Christmas collection of DVDs we speak to Professor Mark Connelly about the history of Christmas… a fascinating insight into how British families spent their Christmas day over the past 100 years.

I will also be playing music from across the centuries - that would have been heard through the years from the 1900’s to current day.

And If you have a particular song that reminds you of a special christmas day – do email me at ashlyn@radioverulam.com with the name of song and the year it reminds you of.

So that’s next Saturday a 100 year musical journey on Alternative Saturday.

And if you can’t listen to the show live – you can go on our website – and ‘listen again’ for 7 days after the broadcast on www. radioverulam.com
