Windows 10 Will Be Free, And All The Details From The Windows 10 Event

Microsoft’s event has finally revealed all its secrets surrounding Windows 10; some were expected, while others not so. There is clearly something to appeal to everyone in this major update, whether you are a heavy Internet browser or a gamer. Microsoft’s focus seems to be set on providing cross-platform access to a variety of users and obviously, winning back haters of Windows 8. Have a look through some of the main new features of Windows 10 and decide for yourself whether it will be a success. Perhaps the new HoloLens will grab your attention or the new, confirmed browser Spartan. Whatever the case, Windows’ 10 success will no doubt hinge on whether these new updates, additions and enhancements are enough to entice everyone to use them and put Microsoft’s operating system back on top again. Microsoft's HoloLens was the big unexpected news that will no doubt have everyone talking for a while. Basically it is a headset, that will one day, project its operating system over what you see in real, everyday life. It will supersede Google Glass and any other existing virtual eyewear already on the market. But what's really special about HoloLens is that it doesn't need to be paired with any other device in order to work. For any skeptics out there, NASA will be using Microsoft's new prototype technology in order to control its Mars' Rovers, as soon as July. At the event, Microsoft gave demos to demonstrate how the HoloLens could be used in everyday life, showing a woman creating a drone model, shaping it using her hands and via voice commands.

The big focus for Windows 10 is to be the same across all devices, whether that be PCs, tablets, mobiles or Xbox. Cortana, which has been limited to Windows Phone up until now, will now be accessible via PCs too. Gillet said that hopefully Cortana's voice controls would prove more popular. Perhaps more so than Windows 8 more touch-orientated commands. Examples were given at the event of how Cortana could be used: dictating and sending emails, finding out weather forecasts, finding where your car was parked or even bringing up Powerpoint presentations.

Carrying on with the theme of cross-platform usage, Internet Explorer will indeed be replaced by the new browser, Spartan. Cortana will be built-in, allowing for voice-command control but it will also be able to provide information tailored to the user. A particular cool feature of Spartan is the "noting mode", allowing users to scribble or make notes over web pages and then share them over social networks.

Microsoft is bringing all Xbox One video games from the main console to any Windows 10 device, whether that be a tablet or PC. As long as the devices are connected to the same WiFi network then users will have full access to their Xbox library. In practice that means that if someone is watching TV, then gamers can still play Xbox One video games using another another device. Gamers will no doubt see the appeal in Windows 10, recognizing that Microsoft is trying to make traditional gaming practices more social by providing cross-platform access.

Here's some news we are glad to hear confirmed - Windows 10 will be free. To clarify though, this will be limited to its first year of release. Historically users have always had to pay for major Microsoft releases but maybe this will entice Windows 8 haters to give Windows 10 a try!
