My cats love my computer laptop. They like to sit in my lap anyway, but when I have the laptop going, they seem to re-double their efforts to share the space. Or should I say, take over the space! I have a hard time keeping sweets from sleeping with her head on the keyboard. I flatter myself to think that they just want to be with me; which I’m sure has something to do with it. But for some reason, they want to get as close to the laptop as possible. Is it the bright screen? Is it the heat it puts out? Do they just want to annoy me? Maybe it’s mouse. Is there some sort of electrical attraction. I don’t know the answer. Perhaps HP infuses their machines with catnip.

Most pet owners have experienced their pet having bad breath. The bad breath that you may smell coming from your pet’s mouth is not all that unlike human bad breath. As a matter of fact, pet bad breath and human bad breath both have the same culprit to blame, and that would be bacteria.

Bacteria which are present in both pet and human mouths create bad breath by breaking down the protein leftover from eating at mealtime. When the bacteria break down the leftover protein they also release a compound called sulfur, which accounts for the bad breath smell. The buildup of bacteria can be directly related to the amount of tartar buildup in your cat’s mouth, which in turn determines how bad your cat’s breath actually smells. Tartar is the yellowish substance on the teeth which is composed of food, bacteria and minerals.

In order to improve your cat’s breath it is important that you get rid of the tartar buildup on his teeth. You can purchase cat food which is specially made to remove the buildup of tartar on your cat’s teeth. Some of these cat foods actually have added enzyme which will dissolve the tartar from the cat’s teeth. There are also certain kitty treats which will help your cat rid himself of unwanted tartar buildup. If these methods do not work for you, have kitty’s teeth cleaned professionally.

If you would like to try to clean your cat’s teeth yourself before paying someone else to so it, you can buy specially made tartar removing toothpaste. Some of these toothpastes contain the dissolving enzymes which will get your cat’s teeth clean. You will also need to make use of a mechanical toothbrush to aid in kitty’s dental health. If you start kitty’s dental health regimen early, you can help prevent the tartar from building up on his teeth from the get go. This will make sure that your cat never has a bad breath problem.

If you have been brushing your cat’s teeth and using the tartar control foods and treats but still have a cat with bad breath, it may not be a tartar problem at all. Instead you cat may be suffering from another health issue all together. In some cases kidney or liver disease can trigger bouts of bad breath in cats. What To Get kitty For Christmas

Many of us will be thinking about presents to give to cats for the holidays. What makes a good gift for a cat? Certainly anything that improves the quality of your cat’s life would be wonderful gift for him and for you. Really you do not need to spend a lot of money on your cat for the Holiday. Cats are like two years olds, when you can just go the dollar store and make them happy. Not much like my teenagers now days.

Some simple things to think about:

Placing a bird feeder outside a window can be a winner for a cat. If you work all day, how about a bird video for some entertainment. Feather teaser toys are always a big hit in out home. Cat nip is always a plus.

Many cats enjoy playing in empty boxes or paper bags. Whatever you buy or make for your cat, think about her safety. No sharp edges, nothing that can be swallowed (unless it is food) and nothing that can fall over. Be especially careful of strings, Christmas tree tinsel and ribbons that cats may try to swallow. They can cause serious problems.

Probably the best gift that we can give our cats is the gift of ourselves. Spending quality time with our cats, playing with them, petting them or just sitting with them will be rewarding for them and for us. Especially during the busy holiday season, spending a little extra time with our cats can enrich all our lives.

Many of our holidays decorations are live plants that cats may be tempted to explore with their mouths. Cats should be kept away from dangerous plants such as poinsettias, holly, and mistletoe. Mistletoe, if eaten can cause decreased heartbeat and a drop in blood pressure. Ivy is another common decoration that can pose health dangers . If eaten, it can cause diarrhea, convulsions, and if in large quantities, even death.

One of the biggest cat holiday temptations is the Christmas tree with its fresh smell and bright, colorful decorations. Dropped needles from the tree can become lodged in a cat’s esophagus if ingested making it painful when swallowing. Tinsel from the tree may cause stomach problems or choking. Obviously any broken glass ornaments should be carefully removed so that there are no remnants to become stuck in paws. Ribbon from packages makes tempting cat toys, but be sure not to leave kitty unsupervised as again, there is a choking danger. One final Christmas tree concern is the water in the Christmas tree stand. Cover the tree base tightly with your tree skirting to keep your pet from drinking
