I love my new digs! My Momma has a new bench that Poppa built her so she can sit with me. Momma will take some pics soon but I wanted to tell ya, I love being a pampered pig, even if I can’t have chips and junk food. I am getting around better since Momma put me on something called a diet. Apples, carrots, lettuce , rice, pickles who needs junk food right? Ta ta for now, I’m gonna lay in the sun for a bit!!!!

Tootie Tales Vol 1

Welp, I’m livin’ large in my penthouse stall and outdoor yard. My new Momma tells me I can’t go out there yet because it needs some reinforcement. I did get to go out on a lookie loo and gave Momma a heart attack. But, when I saw her I walked over to her just telling her all about my adventure! She brought me an apple and I followed her right back to my home. I do love apples and carrots. Momma says no more chips for me! I’m bummed but hey. I get apples, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes and wait….PICKLES! OMGosh, I love pickles, who knew???? Welp, I’m gonna go finish my food and snack on my carrot.

Pistol Pete AKA Pete

Pete
Pistol Pete was Bear’s best buddy. He was such a good horse and beautiful. Bear and Pete had
a unique partnership. Pete was a good natured ole boy who just went along with anything we tried. He was a party Pony and had an article written about him in the Belleville News when we lived in St. Louis, MO. Nothing fazed this guy, not even a huge bounce house in the back yard that we gave rides in. Adults loved to be able to ride too! You could put anyone on Pete and he would just go one speed. He was a babysitter to Zeke and Cody. Pete got sick on us and although the vet did everything they could,
we could not get him over the sickness and he passed away in September of 2017. He is buried
here with our others.

World Bank AKA Banks/Bankie

My Black Beauty, my Thoroughbred, my big big boy. He was Black with a stripe and one small
white on one leg. He was absolutely a dream to ride. I loved this big horse. Bear (my Hubble) worked at the horse track and became friends with a trainer named “Fast Eddie”. Banks was a handful and Eddie was very proud of Banks and did right by him. Banks bumped his hip leaving the gate and it hurt. Eddie had him x-rayed, and vetted several times. He gave Banks time to recover but he just lost the desire to run. Eddie didn’t want him to go to a sale and struck a bargain with my husband. He sold us Banks for $1.00 (I have the bill of sale on a racing form!) with the promise he would stay with us and never race again. We kept that promise for just about 18 years until he passed away at 27. Banks loved his peppermints more than apples and carrots. He was the alpha of our herd and when he passed, the horses grieved for a long time. Cody assumed the Alpha role. I am just thankful the good Lord saw fit to allow us to be his caretakers. He was a once in a lifetime horse. I got the last race Picture of Banks running in Indiana at Hoosier Downs. I treasure that picture, he was such a majestic horse.

Docs Sunny Kat AKA Kit

Kit,
My beautiful Painted Pony. I got Kit when she was 4 years old. She was a handful. Opinionated,
spirited, bull headed, and feisty but she was my heart and soul horse. A friend once told me that
I was the only one she could see that could tolerate Kit.
Kit was 28 years old when she passed and I was so broken hearted. I don’t know what to say.
She took me on so many highs and lows riding. My best memories are of us throwing caution to
the wind and running barrels.
I miss my girl so much.

Herman AKA Hip#954

Herman
Herman was my Big Boy, 17 hand, Standard race and spotted saddlebred. He was a Kill pen
rescue and he was just a big lug of a horse. He love his treats and Loved his friend Kit (My
painted pony). He was much older than we were told (16 was 24ish) and came to us with EPM.
We lost Kit in January of this year and one day later, I lost Herman. I really believe he died of a
broken heart. It was more than my heart could bear at the beginning of the new year. He was
Beautiful and just a loveable horse. I miss both my two painted kids fiercely.

Hack AKA Thug Boyz 2

Hack aka Thug 2
Hack, is the other ½ of the Thug Boyz Duo and wears that label proud. He is a Mini Donkey. He
also plays rough with the goats (he picked one of the babies up and was carrying it around like
a rag doll, scared me to death) and Miss Tootie so we do not let him in with them. His favorite
thing is to play roughhouse with Lil Joe and they get so excited at feed time. He loves his apples
and carrots. His favorite big horse is Cody. Poor Cody tolerates Hack and Joe but when he puts
his hoof down he has had enough, they do listen. I love the dynamic of our horse herd.

Lil Joe AKA Thug Boyz 1

Lil Joe, what can we say about this mini horse with a giant horse “tude”
I love my little blue-eyed thug boy. He loves treats and will stand for you to love on him all day long. He does
have a propensity to want to “play” rough with our goats and Miss Tootie the pig so we do not let
him in with them. He is ½ of the Thug Boyz Duo – Hack being the other ½. Those boys are so
much fun to watch and love to just play and wreak havoc on the big horses.

Hondo formerly Alejandro

Hondo is a Kill Pen rescue. He is an Azteca. He came to us by mistake and Bear couldn’t bear
to let him go back so we ended up purchasing Hondo.
You see, Hondo was delivered to us late in the evening and it was supposed to be Rooster.
Now, I can’t say if this was a bait and switch but it was an awful ordeal to get Rooster home.
Took an extra two months and talking to OK Agriculture and the Atty General. We ended up
having to pay for a second transporter to bring him home.
Now, on to Hondo. Hondo was called Alejandro but, me being a John Wayne fan, he became
Hondo. He is a very different breed/personality. He is watchy, and I don’t think had ever had
treats. I was told he hated men, but I don’t think that is quite the truth. I think he was abused to
the point he doesn’t trust anyone. It took me a couple of months before he would even
acknowledge me and sniff my hand. Now I can pet him but if I try to go past his shoulder it is like
my fingers are electric. Bless his heart. He is getting a lot better and this spring we will begin
some ground work with him. He has a star, snip and 4 white socks and is a very nice mover.
He has come a long way from the frightened horse that came off the trailer that night. He was
given time to “decompress” as I can’t imagine what he had been through or how many auctions
he had run through before landing with us. He is quite the character and he wants to be friendly
but still has a bit of a wall up. We will get that wall down brick by brick.

The first two photos below are the night he arrived. The third photo is Hondo with his favorite human, my brother Gary. Hondo didn’t even now about carrots or apples. He is slowly learning that there are some good people in this world. Now, we do not allow him to “bully” or not respect our space. He is corrected and has really learned to respect our space and seems to be calmer. This spring will be the turning point when we start our ground work.

Rooster

Rooster is from a kill pen. He is broke to ride. He is very standoffish, shy, but very sweet. He craves attention but is scared. My brother just loves him and secretly, I think Rooster is fond of him.

Below are pictures of Rooster at the Kill Buyers facility. The two pictures are when he was at their TX facility. I firmly believe when they moved him WITHOUT my knowledge from TX to OK. He was injured and I was not made aware. He either did something to his hip or pelvis. It was healed by the time he was shipped to me. Shortly after his arrival to OK, I had arranged to have him shipped to me by a shipper recommended by the Kill buyer. The horse that I thought I was getting was the third picture. Notice the difference? The day he was supposed to arrive, we received the wrong horse. See Hondo’s story. I ended up having to arrange and PAY another shipper to bring him home.l

Picture 4 and 5 are his transport day from their OK facility to our place.

The horse they advertised….

The horse I received. He is in his forever home but this experience is one I will not do again.
