access a wifi signal, and found that my inbox was full of pleas for recruits from several free-speech proponents to help in the fight against censorship, and in particular "SOPA" H.R.3261: the ultimate firewall in lock down mode.

This new iron curtain would isolate each one of us from the other at the precise moment in history when we have, for the first time, a means by which to come together, talk things through, work things out, and make a better world for ourselves and for generations to come: we're now seeing it really is us -- not world "leaders", such as elected officials, corporate heads, or banking magnates -- who are able and willing to make the changes necessary to thrive, not just survive.

Censorship is fraught with perils: I have a need to know exactly what potentially dangerous people are all about (you know, the old "give them enough rope in which to hang themselves" philosophy), just as much as I crave innovative and insightful dialog with those who could very well save the world.

I see this move by the government of the United States of America, in part, as a type of protection racket where the currency is our freedoms. It's a joke that we speak so passionately about freedom in a country which is drafting and enacting new laws by the hundreds each year, and imprisoning so many of its citizens that prisons are occupied well above capacity, and the job of housing convicts is being delegated to the private sector. How much protection do we really need? For that matter, exactly what are we being protected from?

This is a battle we must not lose. It is my voice. It is your voice. It is the most powerful tool a person can possess. I can't imagine this bill as law being anything other than the final straw. It's all we have left.
I've been drinking fresh raw vegetable and fruit juices for a couple of weeks now, but have done only a few days of nothing but the juices. I've lost a few pounds, but still seem to be hovering around then same weight, give or take a pound.

I was looking at clothes at Gaiam.com and noticed their promotion offering free shipping on all orders over $100 with code AFALL100, but the offer expires 9/30/2011.

So far I've found a beautiful tunic that would be great for camouflaging excess weight. It's made of 100% cotton poplin, which is my favorite fabric; poplin shirts are always so comfortable and cool. It has princess seams and pleats, and the hem is longer in the back than in the front. So romantic. It's on-sale for $89.00, so I'll have to find something else to buy in order to qualify for the free shipping offer.

I really need to super-charge my will-power and do the juice fast without cheating so I can finally make some progress in my efforts to lose the weight. The juicing alone has turned around some health issues that I've been experiencing, off and on, for years.

I do love this shirt, but it would be such a triumph for me if I could wear more fitted clothing, for a change. My favorite clothes, as it stands, are giant hoodies, preferably with names and designs of bands, such as Faith No More, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and Incubus. I'd really love to have an RATM hoodie.

CoverofRageAgainsttheMachine
Anyone know where I can get one?

On September 17, we want to see 20,000 people flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months. Once there, we shall incessantly repeat our one simple demand until Barack Obama capitulates.
More information about the protests here: Website: OccupyWallStreet.org

Our Mission
On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months.
Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants.
Discuss this in a live chat, and/or watch what's going on around the bull at Livestream: Global Revolution

Looks like we'll probably dodge the bullet this time, but may still have some real damage from high tides and beach erosion in that area.
It's a risky business owning a house that was built on what amounts to a sandbar on the edge of the ocean. Crossing my fingers that this storm continues its easterly deviation from its formerly predicted course, and wish everyone in its path a safe time of it.

Typically these things can last from two days to five days. She's undergone multiple instances of this process through the years, one of which did culminate in a successful brain surgery at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, after which she was seizure-free for about eight years, and was living her life, for the first time, free of the usual constraints experienced by people with epilepsy: driving herself wherever she wished to go; having a great (and one of her first) jobs as a sales manager for a large, fine jewelry, sales counter at multiple locations in malls throughout the Orlando, Florida area; finding the love of her life, with whom she is planning a wedding, scheduled for April, 2012; etc.

Here's hoping they can help her at Mayo. She is one amazing person, and the world is a better place, at least for me, and our entire family, because she's in it, whether or not she's seizure-free. But watch out, World, if she can conquer this, through surgery, and/or complimentary, multiple therapies, because she's a real go-getter, and a true fighter for justice, dignity, and prosperity for the down-trodden.

I adore her.
Comment reply, as follows:

"Actually, the fact that it is a hawk is kind of poetic.

In my little backyard I have witnessed them swoop down on unsuspecting sparrows, and it is beautiful in a primitive sort of way.

Thanks for sharing your story."
My response, as follows:

"Thank you for your reply.

You're right about the hawk: I thwarted a hawk's attempt to capture a baby duckling here a couple of years ago, and was afterwards remorseful. I have no idea if it's the same one in charge now.

Also, years ago, I broke up a battle between two hawks that was going on in my front yard. I assumed they were fighting for territory. They were both grounded and in a death lock, each pecking at the other at intervals, and it appeared to have been going on quite some time before I intervened. They made no sound throughout the sequence of events, and retreated in different directions. I only discovered it when I noticed the shadows of a gathering flock of buzzards -- the flight of which was flickering in the sunlight, filtering through a bedroom window -- and went to see what was going on. I don't know if the buzzards were waiting for one of the hawks to die, or had another target in mind, but there was no smell of decay in the immediate vicinity, and they were definitely circling within the air space directly above.

A strange and awe-inspiring event (at least for me). It's like a bird magnet here, and I have lots of other bird stories and anecdotes about them I could tell. lol

Now that I think of it, I guess I messed up the buzzards' dinner plans that day, as well."

I live in a rural area on a small pond where a family of sandhill cranes has chosen to nest and raise offspring for two seasons now. One evening I looked out my window and watched as a fawn, who was accompanied by its mother doe at a distance, cautiously and inquisitively approached the family of sandhill cranes, two adults and two young chicks. The adults didn't respond, as they normally might at the approach of a possible threat with their usual trumpeting, which they've done when I've been outside and got too close.

Unfortunately, the deer spotted me in the window, and retreated into the brush, which surrounds the perimeter of our property, but not before the fawn practically touched furry nose to fuzzy beak with one of the baby cranes. It was an amazing sight to see.

I love stories like these.

On a sad note, one of the two recent crane chicks that was being raised this season has gone missing, and I believe the culprit may be a hawk, who has also chosen this area as his territory. :'( I wonder if the presence of a protective deer in this case might have made the difference, had there been one.

This article found its way to my "Recent News Feed" on Facebook yesterday, and between its controversial content, and a set of contradicting remarks, I felt an obligation to respond.

The link, above, should land at my comment (which should be highlighted in yellow as JanineM) and should allow the reader the ability to scroll up to the article about which I was commenting.

I also found it extremely interesting because the publishing web site is an arm of The Wall Street Journal.

The article seems to have really caused a stir, and so far, there are a total of 1,180 comments in regards to it.

I'm not sure if it may not be a hoax, or something. Anyone else have an opinion on it?
How can vistas from the world's tallest building include views of other buildings that tower above the clouds? That can't be real. And if it IS real, it can't be right! Hehe!

Regardless, it would suck living in a cookie-cutter house amid a sea of other cookie-cutter houses occupied by snobby rich people who all want to live in cookie-cutter-houses in a sea of cookie-cutter houses. How much imagination is involved here, really.

The first thing I'd do, if I had that kind of money, is find the remotest natural place I could find in a small town with a smattering of "common" people with imaginations, hearts and souls, where everything -- trees, houses and people -- all had their own unique character. Oh... wait... I'm already there. :-)

Speaking of trees, there seems to be a real shortage of them there, but I guess that's to be expected in an artificial oasis in the middle of a desert. Give me trees! :-)

Oh, and it's a good thing they have all of those absurdly tall buildings nearby, 'cuz they're gonna need them when their luxury houses become submerged in ocean waters that are rising due to global warming caused, in large part, by the mass consumption of the very product from which, directly or indirectly, they all became rich. See? There is justice in the world, after all.

And we thought the real estate and mortgage markets were in crisis here...

I used a debit card, and as everyone probably knows by now, the credit card companies have imposed a maximum limit of $75.00 on fuel purchases. The tank was one-quarter full, and I paid $4.80 per gallon of diesel the previous time I filled up, the same amount I paid most recently. I'm no math wiz but I'd say my answer to the survey question was close enough.

And at the click of a submit button I was forwarded to this page, which is the NRCC "donate" page, and I never saw it coming. I don't have any money to donate. I spent it all on fuel. Oh, wait... perhaps all the money I've been spending on fuel lately can be considered a donation to the GOP, after all. I'm a dunce in economics, too, but now I'm wondering if it could be tax-deductible.

I hope nothing's happened to him.

Shortly after having called for him the fourth, or so, time, I noticed the two youngest of the cats staring intently out the back windows, so I thought they may be seeing him. When I walked into the room they were in, within view of the windows, I saw deer... a number of them. They saw me, too, and were startled, scrambling for cover. At first glimpse of the deer in pre-flight mode I counted four, but I'm bleary-eyed, half-blind, and there is underbrush surrounding the area where they were gathered which provides camouflage (especially at this time of year), and before they all receded from view, I counted seven, but I'm not sure I may not have missed one, or even two. What a sight!

Deer-spotting on our property has become a somewhat regular event lately, but it's always exciting no matter how often it occurs. The interesting thing is that, in the almost 20 years we've lived here, I had never seen a deer on, or near, our property. I'd always thought it odd because we live in a rural community where wildlife is abundant... we used to have alligators in our backyard pond every year until it became overgrown with grasses. It may still harbor alligators, but it's almost impossible to tell with the obstructions to the view. The deer sightings have only just begun this year, and the sad part is that I believe the reason for the sudden increase in deer-sightings here, from zero in 19 years to too many to count in the past few months, is probably attributable to the encroaching suburbs not far from here.

It's sad because, as delightful as it is to see these animals, our backyard and the area immediately surrounding it, probably is not the best habitat for deer. I wonder if they're here because the alligators really aren't. They can't possibly subsist safely even where I live because, although we're rural, there are houses on an average of one per every five acres in all directions for at least a few miles, and not a lot of traffic, but plenty enough to increase the likelihood of deer/car collisions.

It made me sad when they took flight at the sight of me. I wonder what it must be like to be ever-wary and on the run. All I could think of was that I wished that I could convince them that I was no threat... that they could trust me, and that for one brief moment they could feel peace and contentment in the knowledge that here was one who would do them no harm.

I'm such a sap.

I'm really happy about this. For me it was a first foray into the world of shipping without the trusty USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL there to guide me. 'Course the vanity's not here yet, but I have a good feeling about the shipper, as well as the people with whom I won the auction. But my husband's going to have a fit! Well, he'll be okay once he sees how well it goes in our new bedroom, and realizes how very much I need it (I hope). :-)

Now on to my next acquisition... photography studio equipment. But I think I'll work on that tomorrow. Also, as the name of the blog would imply, I have a great desire to become more active as a seller in the near future. I've been preparing for that in various ways, i.e., research of products, pricing, strategy, and best practices, an upgrade of my PayPal account, a signing on with Pitney Bowes to meet my anticipated need for an easier and less time-consuming system for handling shipping, setting up of a spare bedroom as my new office, acquisition of shipping materials, etc.

During the course of the last few months, I've made LOTS of purchases and auction bids on eBay, all of which I can honestly say have been good experiences. I'd like to thank everyone I've had the pleasure of dealing with, and to extend kudos to them all on a job well done. Many of the transactions are related to some ongoing remodeling projects I've undertaken or planned, some of which I fear may never come into fruition, attributable to the fact that I have too many ideas and not enough money to carry them out. :-) I'd like to add that I hope to alleviate the money issue, should my status on eBay go from Wannabe Mogul(esse) to the real thing. :-) In regard to the remodeling efforts, I intend to tackle them project-by-project and room-by-room, because of the unlikelihood of my becoming a millionaire over night. :-)

In addition to an antique vanity table/mirror currently up for auction that I would be thrilled to win, (I'm still trying to arrange for shipping of the item at the eleventh hour, so I haven't been able to place a bid yet.) I think my next eBay purchase will be photography studio equipment. Although items I intend to sell won't necessarily need to be showcased in such a way, a great many most likely will be.

Most of my next posts will be about some of my recent purchases and transactions, to be followed by posts detailing eBay experiences that I'm sure are yet to come.

Stay Tuned. :-)

I'm insatiably curious about most things, which is the way I describe myself when I have to do it. I should have been a scientist, I think.

“By having your unconscious mind driven most by Curiosity, you probably have an inquisitive and forward-thinking nature. This trait can manifest by being full of thoughts about the future, or maybe you simply enjoy considering new ideas. Not one to be reined in by the humdrum realities of daily life, you appear to be able to look beyond those boundaries to imagine new vistas. People with a heightened drive for curiosity tend to be open-minded and non-judgmental. This can go hand in hand with their appreciation for seeking out new possibilities.

At times, having a seeking nature can make curiosity types highly intellectual, whether scientists, writers, or simply brainy daydreamers. "What if..." is likely a question never far from any of their minds. If this is true for you, then you may feel that new frontiers are where it's at. Following this inclination toward innovation can not only enrich your personal life, but also make you a valuable asset in business as well.”

[+/-] My Concept of Reality

“
Your concept of reality is a popular one and might be seen on the surface as being mainstream. When making first impressions, for the most part, you tend to see the world as others do. However, because you're a unique individual and have your own perspectives, it's likely that you also have a talent for devising your own novel viewpoints. This ability to see what others see but still have your own vision can be a great gift.

Because you're usually in agreement with the majority about the way things are, you're not likely to find yourself at odds because of your views. On the contrary, this common vision is likely one of the things that binds you to the people with whom you associate yourself. When a person's perspective is far different from the norm, they're much more likely to feel alienated and may have to work harder to get their points of view across. People like you have the opposite problem in that you may have a greater tendency to see what is obvious. Because you see what most people see, it can be a struggle to appreciate others' unusual perspectives or a lone opinion in the group. Be careful of getting too comfortable with your views, even if others share them. The obvious opinion isn't always the best one. Challenge yourself.
”

[+/-] My Mental Flexibility

“
Based on your responses, you're reasonably flexible in your thinking and opinions. As a result, when dealing with most topics, you can easily consider other people's views. However, if a conversation centers on one of your core values, you're typically more reluctant to entertain other ways of thinking. This is true for most people. After all, it's good to have strong opinions on issues of importance. These views help create a foundation for what you believe in. Naturally, your ideas can change and develop over time. But particularly in your case, it's unlikely that they'll be radically different from day to day.

Occasionally your certainty can result in missed opportunities. If you're too sure of your values, you might forego the chance to observe a different way of being. You might also fail to imagine a way of life that might actually make you happier. If you find that you are excessively defensive on certain topics, it's likely because of one of the following reasons. Either the area is something you've had extensive experience with, and therefore have personal history to base your views on. Or, your defensiveness could be covering up a deep wound or insecurity that you're afraid will be exposed if you open yourself up to a new way of thinking.
”

[+/-] My Level of Fantasy

“
Tickle's experts found that you are certainly capable of fantasizing and may even enjoy keeping yourself entertained that way. However, based on your responses, your first reaction to stress probably isn't to create an alternate universe or to imagine things differently than they actually are. In fact, you appear to have the nice balance of having the gift of fantasy at your disposal without having the tendency to overly rely on it. In other words, when it comes to fantasy, you typically use it, but don't abuse it.
”

[+/-] How I Relate to Others

“
Your relationships are complex things. One important aspect affecting all of them is the role that you play when interacting with others. Do you typically take an active approach when dealing with the people around you, or do you tend to behave more passively? According to your test responses, you appear to have a balanced approach to interacting. You're not consistently the one who is active or passive. This mixed pattern indicates that, relative to other people, you try to either be sensitive to the needs of a particular situation or the people with whom you're dealing. By being able to adjust your approach depending on how the others are behaving, you can handle most situations with ease. Your friends may see you as a great listener or a savvy communicator because of your gift for reading people.

The overall effect of this balanced approach is that you have more options available to you when it comes to your communication style. The possible downside to this fact is that certain individuals with a balanced approach can get confused about which approach feels most natural to them — not just to the situation. While flexibility is a good thing, if you behave solely according to what's going on around you, it can wear on your sense of self.

Another difficulty you may find yourself running up against is that your balanced style may seem like inconsistency to other people. For example, if one day you take the lead in a group and the next day you choose to follow, this transition can be unsettling to those around you. Also when you're dealing with someone who is also balanced in their approach, your relationship can become an elaborate dance where each of you is trying to figure out who's taking charge. If you find yourself in a situation like this one, consider making your style more consistent — whether active or passive — in order to avoid potential confusion.
”

The analysis of this test was interesting, and I've come away from it with a better understanding of what the test is all about.
