ROFL. Ok so this question was in relation to my previous remark that I didn't like Super Junior (which was but is no longer true) but I liked Super Junior-H (ironically not as true anymore). At that point of time it was only because they were cracktastic and I preferred crack over the general Super Junior stuff (from which I've only heard 2 songs at that time).

But now that I've heard more songs and watched more videos, I've decided that yes, I DO like them.

Well, it may come as a surprise to some but it's not Siwon. xD Though if it's any consolation, Siwon is second.

Anyways, I just woke up this morning and decided I wanted to cook myself some carbonara! I'd already bought the ingredients prior in another shopping trip with mom so all there was to do was to get off my lazy ass and cook it.

And if you're wondering, yes, this recipe is so easy that even a blind monkey could do it.

Make sure you read carefully all the way through before using this recipe. I left a lot of post-notes, with lessons learned.

The ingredients I used (to serve 2) are:

200g of streaky bacon and 5 hot dog franks, chopped up into huge chunks.

250g of linguine.

1 can of button mushrooms.

These that I got from the supermarket were pre-sliced, so it saves you tons of time! It said "pieces and stems" on the can so I suppose you just have to look out for that.

Around 50g of parmesan cheese.

4 eggs, with one yolk separated. You should use 6 eggs and separate 2 yolks if you're serving 2.

So here we go!

Step 1: Cook the linguine.

To a pot of boiling water, add some oil. The packaging for the linguine said it didn't require oil, which sounds strange to me so I added a tablespoon or two just in case.

Also, Nigella Lawson (who is the queen of cooking, so whatever she says must make sense somehow) said that you should add as much salt to the boiling pasta as there is salt in the Mediterranean sea. That probably means quite a lot of salt, so I dumped in two hearty tablespoonfuls of salt. You should only add this after the water comes to a bubbly boil and you've put in the linguine. This way you won't have to wait as long for the water to boil initially.

Step 2: Cook the bacon.

While that is cooking, cook the bacon in about 2 tablespoonfuls of oil. Make sure to let it cook through till the fat is dissolved slightly and the edges are a little brown.

Step 3: Add mushrooms and hot dog franks.

To that, you add the hot dogs and button mushrooms. These don't require much cooking so just let them sit in there and absorb some of that bacon juice.

I know carbonara is not supposed to have mushrooms nor hot dogs, but I like my food that way. You can skip these if you want.

And crap. Right now when I'm typing this post only do I realize that I forgot to take one photo. So anyways.

Step 4: Beat the eggs and mix in cheese.

JUST IMAGINE OKAY.

Beat the eggs (not the yolks that you've separated) and to that you add the parmesan cheese. Don't worry too much if the cheese doesn't melt, it'll do that later on in another step.

Step 5: Drain the cooked pasta.

Once the pasta is done, drain it! Pour about 1/3 to 1/2 a cup of starchy water (from the boiled pasta) to your egg/cheese mixture and give it a good stir. This will help make it more solid or something. You're supposed to cook the pasta till it's al dente, which I have no idea how soft it is. So just cook the pasta till however soft you'd like it (as you can see, mine is pretty hard because I like it that way) and you're good. Who needs to listen to those chefs anyways!

Step 6: Add pasta to cooking ingredients.

Throw the drained pasta into your pan of cooking ingredients and toss it around. To make sure the ingredients are not clumped in a corner you know? Common sense stuff.

Step 7: Add cooked pasta/ingredients to egg cheese mixture.

Once that is more or less done, pour the hot pasta and ingredients into a huge bowl with the egg and cheese mixture. Quickly stir it around to mix the sauce with the pasta well. The eggs might cook if you do this too slowly. See the white specks in the picture? They're the melting cheese. YUM.

Step 8: Add yolk to finished carbonara.

As the step says, add the yolk to the carbonara. Just in case you don't even know this, the yolk is supposed to sit in the center of the bowl/plate.

And there you have it! Carbonara!

Yes I know it looks good. Stop drooling. It tastes really decent too! For a first try at least. :D

Post-eating notes (VERY IMPORTANT SO YOU MUST READ.)

Step 1: Nigella Lawson lied. Or for carbonara at least. The bacon itself will already be salty enough so adding salt to your pasta will just make the whole thing really strong. Which is fine if you're me, but generally I'd advise against it. Just add a teaspoon or two of salt to get it going.

Step 2: Honestly, too much bacon. In fact, too much ingredients. To serve 2, you'd probably need 100g of bacon, 3 hot dog franks and half a can of button mushrooms. You could otherwise be generous and add 150g of bacon, then skip the hot dogs and mushrooms altogether.

Step 4: Parmesan, unlike mozzarella, does not do well if abused and overused. I'm guessing 40g of parmesan should be fine if you reduce the bacon.

And this is the heart-stopping part: 4 eggs is NOT enough for 2 people. Traditional carbonara would ask for cream, but that is just too tricky for me so instead, you might want to up the eggs to 6 and separate 2 yolks for topping later.

Step 5: Do not add that much starchy water to your mixture. LOL. Add about a quarter cup will do.

I really don't think anyone should take my advice when it comes to cooking, but if you really do try this out, let me know how it goes! Please don't sue me if you die of food poisoning or something. Oh and as you should have already figured out, this recipe is really unsuitable for children because of the non-fully-cooked eggs.

Ok so I've probably held off on giving my opinion on this for too long (though this is the "latest" issue of the lot).

I really don't understand Korean netizens. Firstly they give him loads of shit about an issue that is SO SO SO OLD.

Which is fine of course, if that's the way you want to play it. OF COURSE the guy would feel compelled to leave his group right?

So he fulfills their wishes in leaving the group (and heck, even leaving Korea) and then they go ballistic and say "nuuu we want you back".

Make up your fucking mind bitches.

Think about the whole situation from HIS point of view. If you said something horrible about the country you're currently residing in (and are insanely popular in) and the WHOLE COUNTRY knows about what you think of them, wouldn't you want to get away from it all as well?

I mean, how can one live life with weird looks every single day. Everyone's going to know what you once thought of them in the distant past. And even if they don't give it much thought, I think I would be real paranoid and start becoming overly cautious and wary of the people around me. Which is not a way to live at all.

Top 30 Jpop / Kpop songs 2009: Nominate!

We've finally entered the last quarter of the year and it's time to prepare for those end-of-year lists we bloggers like to do so much.

I did a top 30 Jpop songs list last year and I'm definitely hoping to get one up this year too. Of course, with my newfound Kpop fandom, there will be a top 30 Kpop songs list as well!

So here's where you guys come in. Honestly, I've not been paying as much attention as I'd like (and by that I mean constant refreshes at Jpopsuki for new stuff and stalking Oricon for new music) to Jpop and hence I have a feeling that I've missed out a TON of good stuff. So, I would like you guys to recommend me some music that you think I would like or that deserves to be on the list.

[Guidelines]

As always, I love cracktastic pop. If the song is insanely happy and cheery, then I'd be likely to love it.
Otherwise, it would be good if you could recommend me songs with a very strong melody line (the basic rule of thumb is if you can hum the song without sounding like a retard, then it's good).
Please only recommend songs that were releases in 2009 January onwards. I don't care if it was released in the last week of December and it charted all the way till March or whatever. If it's not released in 2009, it shouldn't be on this list.
Please only recommend Jpop songs. I don't need help with Kpop, and am not interested in all the other stuff.
Generally avoid recommending Jrock, because I don't really like it anyways. Milder stuff such as GLAY and L'Arc~en~ciel might be okay.
Please only recommend SONGS, not SINGLES or ALBUMS.
Please include the title of the song, followed by the singer of the song. If possible, do give me a Youtube link as well! :D
The song you've recommended might not get on the list, so please be understanding.
Please do not recommend me songs from: AAA, Hirai Ken, Koda Kumi, Hamasaki Ayumi, AKB48, Big Bang or Tegomasu. I've heard their stuff already. :D

Being the 21st Q4R, it seems appropriate to discuss 2NE1! (And G-Dragon, since you can't seem to talk about one without the other these days.)

As you can see, I'm answering all these questions REEEEALLY late, which I'm so sorry for. D:

But back on topic. My first impression of them were that they were uglier than your typical Kpop girl group. However, I still looked forward to their debut because G-Dragon was rumored to be the producer for their song "FIRE" or something like that.

BUT! The first time I saw their dress sense I went headtable headtable headtable repeatedly in a futile attempt to try and get rid of that colorful explosive diarrhea out of my head.

Yes you can go bang your heads against a hard surface now.

I don't really know them very well, so as I always do, I'd compare personalities with a group I'm more familiar with. In this case, I'm going to use Big Bang. Deal with it.

[Park Bom is Seungri]

Both of them seem like attention whores for some reason, and most of the time I see them they're acting cute in one way or another. Also, it seems that both of them sounds stuffy-nosed when they sing live.

[Minzy is Daesung]

Constantly made fun of for her "countryside" looks, she's like a more subdued version of Daesung. Maybe it'll take a variety show or two to get her to loosen up a bit.

Oh, and both of them sing well too. Maybe it the kind of face that projects the kind of voice.

[Dara is Taeyang]

She's constantly SO polite and she looks the best amongst the 2NE1 girls, so I guess that makes her Taeyang. She's also always politically correct, another trait of Taeyang's. *shrugs* She's also easily my favorite member, although this is based on a purely superficial basis.

[CL is .... G-Dragon?]

I have no idea. G-Dragon is definitely more crazy than she is. But both of them are the leaders of their groups, so... it sort of links?

He's honestly hit-or-miss for me. Generally he gets something right, then screws up something else. Let's take a few examples...

See, in the first picture he generally looks okay except for the weird eyeliner and dead rat on his head. I think the top/scarf would work with some other hat.

But then he goes change into the mess of a T-shirt. Now don't get me wrong, the mess is not with the 'FUCK YOU' and '69' and 'I ♥ SEX', the mess is actually with the leopard print AND how faded it looks.

Like, how old is this T-shirt anyways?

I honestly like the jumpsuit and all the crazy accessories, it looks really fun and bright and all, but we would all agree he looks like a mad scientist in this photo.

The problem really lies with the hair (it's not a bad style, but it simply does not go well with this outfit) and the fact that he wore a shirt-and-tie. If you switch those out for something else, it'd probably look better. And less crazy-chemical-fetishist.

And see, he CAN look good. All white ensemble and big watch and all that, it's really fresh and airy, which makes him looks like the young guy he is. Admittedly this is one of his older photos, but still.

Comments on GD's new look? It looks as if the inspiration came from Death Note.

Firstly, he's honestly one of the VERY few Asians who can carry off platinum blonde without looking like a total douchebag. It's probably because of his very androgynous features and fair skin. *shrugs*

I like the hair, that's for sure.

The SM-leather sleeves however...

Yeah, they make me cringe. Imagine how uncomfortable those things must be! D: And they kind of make him look like he has evil detachable arms. Eeek.

OMG. GD'S HEARTBREAKER IS SOME SEXY SHIT! Y/Y?
Hey Raid, G-dragon from Big Bang's solo album was leaked! Have you given it a listen yet? What do you think?

Sigh, ok I guess I have to do another review again, but a much shorter version. Let's do it my normal way: good, bad and so-so.

[Good songs]

"A boy" has a very interesting melody, but the pitch makes you cringe at times (especially during the bridge). You'll get used to it after a few listens though. A not-too-showy start to a very showy album.

"Heartbreaker" is a thumping club/dance/pop track that's bound to make you want move your body a little. Some people might get turned off by the autotune (or whatever you call that thing that makes his voice synth-y) but I personally think it's a very good tool to hide the flaws in his voice. G-Dragon is not a strong singer per se, but with this vocoder (am I using the wrong word again?) thing, it makes his voice phenomenal.

"Breathe" continues in the same vein as "Heartbreaker", except it's slightly less upbeat. Think of it like this: "Heartbreaker" is when you're in the club, and "Breathe" is the after-club sex that you have.

The lyrics are mightily suggestive too - "I know you want it baby... You and me hardcore, let's do it some more... Till you say no more... I can't breathe".

Don't you love it already?

"Gossip Man", like many of the other good songs on the album, has a very distinct beat that you can follow easily. It also has a rather decent chorus with a strong melody. I didn't much fancy the veteran singer featured in this song, but I can't complain much I guess. It's really not good enough to be a good song, but it's much better than just so-so, so I had to put it here.

"Korean Dream" is my favorite track on the album, and I swear it's not because of Taeyang's involvement in this song. The song with it's catchy as heck tune and shoutable lyrics ("Eh oh eh oh!" and "One two step and Turn left to the right below shut Ladies (yeah) and gentlemen (huh)") makes it a great party track. There's so much fun to be had with this song, and you'll know why when you take a listen to it.

[So-so]

"Hello" is mainly Dara (from 2NE1) singing, with G-Dragon rapping. Therefore, the whole song is made up mostly of rapping with Dara singing minimally (sad really). It's not exactly a catchy song, and kind of feels like a filler song. Dara doesn't sing enough for this to be a romantic duet or something either, unless this duet is of a narcissistic male and his really unimportant girlfriend. While it's not a bad song, it just doesn't stand out enough for me to care too much about it.

"The Leaders" is really just hip-hop and rapping, which is not really my thing. The opening with the "wassup, wassup, wassup wassup wassup" held so much potential to make this a fun song, but it eventually fell flat. There were some cute parts ("Gee gee gee gee Baby baby baby, GD GD Bang it Bang it Bang it") but those just weren't enough to make this song epic.

Besides, CL rapping "the one and only best female" makes me roll my eyes.

[Bad songs]

"Butterfly" is a weaker number because G-Dragon is trying for forlorn and sad or something equally rubbishy in this song. G-Dragon can do angsty, emo, angry and happy, but not sad and sentimental. It just turns out cheesy and all I want to do is ask him to just shut up and stop whining already.

And besides, he's required to sing without the help of any effects shielding his voice. The music is also very minimalistic, which exhibits his flaws for all to see.

"She's Gone" is... well. I guess the fact that I don't even remember how the song is like is testament to what I think of it. It's just basically macho screamy stuff which would be great for those angry days. Other than that, it's just really... testosterone-overloaded noise. How inspiring.

"1 year station" is a neither here nor there song. It's trying to be upbeat, yet has a mid-tempo melody, yet has mad rapid rapping scattered here and there and basically it just sounds a little messy to me. The singing doesn't help much either, he sounds gay in here. Or constipated. Or both.

Oh oh, and if you're asking about the music video for "Heartbreaker", then yes it's fucking sexy. It propelled him from "strange eccentric friend" to "fuckable" in my list. A major improvement I would say. Go watch it if you haven't already.

I'm always slightly hesitant to comment on plagiarism issues because, let's face it, is anything even original these days? Everything is inspired by something else, and with so much music in the market these days, is it any wonder that two songs happen to sound the same?

But anyways, he might have, he might not have. I really don't care. All I care is whether the song is nice (it is) and whether the music video is nice (also is). Why should I have to care so much as to who owns the song anyways? So that I know who exactly deserves to get my money when I buy the album? Whatever for, sheesh.

life is too hard. why is it so hard? why cant we just all eat popcorn until we explode? huh? why are finals such a pain in the ass? why are teachers always fat, and the hot ones are gay. I CANT DO THIS NEMORE!

Personally, the idea of eating popcorn till I explode is not really a very pleasant one, so go ahead without me if you're intending to do that.

Finals are a pain in the ass at first, but once it's over, the feeling is so so amazing. Very much like some other activity many people love.

Those people who disagree with me in my previous DBSK post?

Well, you've not given me enough reasons to think that this whole injunction business is justified.

So unless you can answer the following questions (which so many of you conveniently ignored) with an intelligence that isn't semi fangirl-retarded, please don't bother trying to comment on this post.

The questions you have to answer are:

If a 13 year contract is really so unreasonable, why sign it in the first place?
Define getting paid fairly, considering SM Entertainment was the one who worked so hard in the first place to make them "worthy" of what fans deem to receive "appropriate pay". Without SM, DBSK would have been NOTHING. This whole affair would have not even been around.
If their schedules are really SO terrible, why aren't Yunho and Changmin complaining? And Yunho and Changmin are venturing into ACTING too, doesn't this make things worse? If their schedules are really SO terrible, where did they go find time to find out about this weird cosmetics company that they intend to invest in?

And BEFORE you go on to click "Leave a comment" and type a hate comment to me about how insensitive I am, here are a few points you might want to consider.

[They signed the contract while they were still young.]

I won't bother doing too much research so let's just take one member as an example.

Junsu debuted in 2003. He was 17 then.

He waited for 6 years before he could debut, that is to say he trained for 6 years before he could debut.

He was 11 then.

Signing a 13 year contract at 11 means the contract ends when he's 24.

Which is next year, in 2010.

WHY WOULD HE FILE AN INJUNCTION AND POTENTIALLY RUIN HIS CAREER NOW?

So that means, he did NOT sign it during his trainee days, he signed it BEFORE HIS DEBUT, when he was 17.

He was UNDERAGE when he signed the contract. So, here's some legal stuff for you to consider.

Legally, minors generally cannot form a binding contract. Courts consider a person under the age of majority (in Suoth Korea's case, it's 20 years old) to lack the capacity to enter into a binding contract.

So a minor who signs a contract but later wants out of it -- to spend more time working for world peace or to recover from a nasty nose piercing operation, for example -- can often legally do so. To avoid this, the contractor has the minor's parent or guardian sign the agreement on behalf of the minor.

A smart company like SM would definitely do this wouldn't you think? Get the parent to sign to cover their asses?

So is the whole "young and stupid" argument that SO MANY of you brought up still valid?

Was the parent "young and stupid" too? And if really so, WHY SHOULD SM BE BLAMED FOR THEIR PARENTS' FOLLY?

Unless you can give me a good answer to this, don't even try using this argument again.

[If DBSK weren't DBSK...]

Let's take this into a whole different context to let everyone be objective about this.

Let's say you take a job with the government, which promises you really great benefits - medical coverage, hefty retirement fund and the usual good stuff. However, they want you to sign the contract when you're 18 (or just out of school) for 10 years.

And after you sign this contract (or have a parent sign it for you), you go into the job realizing that while what they agreed to give you was true (and properly given), the job required so much work and puts you in so much stress that the whole affair just doesn't seem worth it.

WHO IS AT FAULT NOW? You for not getting your facts right and being "young and stupid", or the government for not telling you how stressful the job is going to be?

And if you're going to fault the government, you'd better have a good argument to back it up.

Well, 3 of them at least.

Here's a 30 second summary of what has happened: Yoochun, Jaejoong and Junsu of DBSK are filing an injunction against their management / talent company, SM Entertainment, because they think that their 13 year contract is too long and that they're not getting paid fairly for their work.

They also mentioned stuff like being overworked and typical boring idol gripes.

So before we move on, all you mental DBSK fangirls (and those fanboys) please go away (non-mental ones can stay). If you can't be realistic about this matter, don't read this post.

[Are they getting paid too little?]

The details are really sketchy regarding how much DBSK is getting in terms of pay. SM Entertainment just released a statement saying that over the last 5 years, DBSK has made roughly 40.28 million USD for the company. And remember that this excludes endorsements and shoots and all that other stuff.

We take away 18 million from this figure because SM needs to pay for expenses on them. That leaves us with 22 million.

Let's just take the most extreme figure, the most favorable one for DBSK. Let's just say they split these profits 1:9 with SM Entertainment taking 90% of the profits.

That leaves us with 2.2 million USD.

Split that by 5 members, we have 440,000 USD.

Over five years, that's 88000 USD per year per member. Which equates to about 7300 USD per month.

How many of you earn 7300 USD or more a month? How many of you have parents which do?

Let's face it, 7300 USD a month in pay is something many of us wish we had but we don't. And here they're complaining that they don't have enough?

And best of all, these people have NOTHING to pay for. Food is taken care of by their company, as are utilities, rent, medical fees, travel, clothing and perhaps the occasional luxury item.

That's 7300 USD lying around monthly for you to spend on ANYTHING you want.

Is that STILL too little?

And this is taking the most extreme figure too. To get a closer figure, we'd have to look at what both sides are saying.

SM Entertainment released a statement saying the profits were split 40:60, with DBSK taking 40%.

Now if you were DBSK, and knew that you were getting say, 20% of the profits, you would come out and say "hell, no, we're getting way less than what they claimed".

But instead, what do they say?

"The calculations of the profits are too vague. We cannot trust it."

You know what else is too vague? Your fucking statement is what's too vague. Doesn't this sound like a flimsy excuse?

Child: I cleaned my room and did my homework and ate my vegetables and STILL my mom doesn't let me play outside!
Mother: *shows messy room, unfinished homework and plate of uneaten vegetables*
Child: ... Her standards are too high, we cannot trust her.

*slams head against table repeatedly*

But of course, SM Entertainment might be trying to downplay the figures too by making it seem they took a smaller cut of the profits. So let's buffer these figures a bit and say, DBSK took 25% while SM Entertainment took 75%.

That equates to each DBSK member getting 18300 USD per month.

Remember, WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY ANYTHING.

Is that STILL too little? Do they need money to stuff down their underwear to make themselves look bigger? Well, they really should, whiny bunch of girly giants.

I rest my case.

(And if SM is telling the truth, it equates to roughly 29000 USD a month in pay for each member. 29000! That's DEFINITELY not little.)

And even if they are getting a 10:90 split, they AGREED to it in the first place by signing that contract. Which brings me to my next point...

You know, if it really were THAT unreasonable, why sign it in the first place?

And it's not as if they didn't know it was going to be tough being an artiste anyways. Every artiste in the indsutry bemoans this fact whenever they have the chance to so that they can gain sympathy from the fans.

And somehow, ALL THESE artistes talking DIDN'T reach them? Are they like, locked up on some secret island?

Did someone FORCE them to sign these contracts?

The simple fact of the matter is that they've made their own beds, and they should just lie in it. Whining about it AFTER they've decided their fates is just childish.

And! It's not like the bed is a terrible bed either! Fame, fortune, loads of girls (and the odd guy or two) offering themselves willingly to you, what's so bad about that life?

(And don't even try to bring "lack of privacy" into this. Even a kid should know that being famous would lead to you having no privacy. And you become an artiste to become famous, because no one wants to be a struggling artiste.)

[Why else shouldn't they file an injunction against SM?]

Well, for one, it's bloody ungrateful. See, SM Entertainment were the ones who made them who they are today. Had they not "tortured" them with their insane training and such, gave them inhumane schedules and promoted them like mad, do you think DBSK would be well-known enough for anyone to care about this issue today?

Do not bite the hand that feeds you, we've all heard this saying at one point of our life or another. But not only are they biting this hand, they're claiming this hand fed them too little. How's that for being bloody ungrateful?

Perhaps DBSK is really being treated very badly (in which case, I ask, why can Yunho and Changmin tolerate it and not them?), perhaps a 13-year contract is unreasonable (why sign it in the first place then?), perhaps they are getting paid unfairly (define fair, considering SM were the ones who made them who they are today), but whatever it is, THEY GOT THEMSELVES INTO THIS SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE. Nobody forced them to sign any papers. Perhaps yes, SM DID take advantage of them, but SM definitely couldn't have FORCED them.

Be a man, face up to what you do. Stop all this legal whining, so many others are having it way worse than you guys are. Irritating.

A TAEYANG IN A CAN IS PRETTY DAMNED GOOD TOO!

I went to the Korean store near my workplace today after lunch in search of more Caffe Latte. While I was trying to decide which flavor to buy (there was Caramel Macchiato, Cafe Latte and MILD Cafe Latte, whatever that means), I spotted him staring up fiercely at me.

SO I BOUGHT TWO! MUAHAHA. One to drink (it tasted like water, with a teensy bit of sugar, and then some peach juice dumped in there just for the sake of) and one to keep as it is. :D

HAPPY. Hopefully they'll stock the other flavors soon!
