In order to graduate Shuhei Yamamoto cuts a deal with his thesis supervisor. He must join the university sumo club and participate in an upcoming tournament. With only one other club member, Shuhei finds himself rebuilding the club from scratch. One of the very few movies about sumo and, arguably, one of the best sports films ever made- Sumo Do, Sumo Don't.
A street preacher spends his days telling those walking Hollywood Boulevard that God loves them. One day, a young woman wonders out of her job while having an emotional crisis and crosses his path. Originally debuting at the 1998 New York Underground Film Festival before being removed from view to undergo reshoots 9 years later and resurface on YouTube in 2012. The first feature by music video and commercial director Erick Ifergan- Johnny 316.

Amanda, an upper-class teenager with alexithymia, reconnects with her estranged friend, socially adept and academically inclined, Lily. As they reestablish their bond, they start planning to murder Lily's stepfather and enlist a small time dealer to pull the trigger. A strong debut thriller with three fantastic performances driving it like a team of- Thoroughbreds.

Eventually the pair take refuge in a very curious cave full of well mannered school children. An anti-nuclear sci-fi drama directed by a backlisted American director- The Damned.
A novelist arrives in an unassuming town, exactly 40 years after its last outbreak of vampires, just in time for its next one. Meanwhile, the reincarnated lady loving vampire finds a finishing school, stuffed to the rafters with nubile young socialites, on the grounds of their castle property. Having become obsessed with one of the students, the novelist maneuvers to become a teacher at the school. Soon enough both of the nubile focused predators cross paths but nothing can sate- Lust for a Vampire.
Jean Carter, daughter of a small Canadian town's freshly hired school principal, has a restless night and confides to her parents about an event that happened with her new friend and an elderly man. The Carters demand charges be brought against the patriarch of the wealthiest and most powerful family in town. As extreme hostility toward the Carters build, another horrible crime looms in the future. A statement on community being weaponized to support wealth and power at all costs, regardless of victim and history- Never Take Sweets from a Stranger.
Captain Collier comes to a town on the Romney Marsh to investigate rumors of smuggling. Doctor Blyss, the town's parson, is behind the smuggling ring and has a secret only shared with two others. The town's coffin-maker and a mute former pirate in the custody of Collier. The two men will soon have a fatal confrontation. Based on the first book in Russell Thorndike's classic adventure series and forced to use an alternate title due to Disney adapting another title in the series simultaneously- Captain Clegg.

Just as it all seems ready to collapse, they find the answer to all their problems, bank robbery. A tragically overlooked social commentary laden romantic crime thriller- Normal Life.

After her sister disappears, Joo-young rushes back to their shared apartment to search for her. Meanwhile, the man in the apartment below begins to make threats over noises no one else can hear and the head of the residents group is determined to stop anything from derailing her renovation plans. The first feature from Kim Soo-jin offers a mix of atmosphere and social commentary- Noise.

Michael Davis's cartoon inspired cult action comedy- Shoot 'Em Up.

A cult classic of the straight to video action era, that takes the star out of her comfort zone and drops her and the audience right into the director's favorite dreams- Sworn to Justice.
12-year-old John begins to develop episodes of tics and uncontrollable echolalia that no one understands. 13 years later John is directionless and hopelessly resigned to his situation with a diagnosis that offers no hope of reprieve. When he reconnects with a school friend and his family, John begins taking control of his own life. A biopic that skillfully balances the complicated disorder with an amiable nature supported by a terrific cast- I Swear.

On the eve of World War II, an ambitious SS commandant devices a plan to use a group of highly trained and loyal young women as informants stationed in a popular brothel that is frequented by both ranking Nazis and international dignitaries. The plan is a huge success but it takes a heavy toll, both emotionally and physically, on the women and the commandant becomes obsessed with one of his spies. Tinto Brass's erotic war drama inspired by an actual event, Salon Kitty.
A female Tehran-based journalist arrives in Mashhad to track down a serial killer who targets local sex workers and believes he is cleansing the city for the eight Shia Imam. She is blocked at every step by all men in authority that she encounters and beings to consider taking far riskier and increasingly dangerous methods. After his arrest, the public rally around him and his crimes. Ali Abbasi's film about a monster that isn't just a single man but a serial killer society living off deep-rooted misogyny and the complexities for anyone trying to push back, Holy Spider.
Exploring the lives of four Black trans women sex workers, Daniella Carter, Dominique Silver, Koko Da Doll, and Liyah Mitchell, in New York and Georgia through unfiltered interviews and reenactments. The first feature from D. Smith, best know for her singer-songwriter work with a who's who of Rap, R&B, and Pop musicians in the 2000s, Kokomo City.

Knowing the only monsters are people and that her parents hat to have been killed accidentally by his enemies, the neighbor tries to protect the girl and save himself. Will Aurora find safety from both human and inhuman monsters? Will the neighbor realize that sometimes monsters are under your bed? Long time television auteur Bryan Fuller makes a stylish and imaginative feature debut- Dust Bunny.

Nicky, a small time gangster, stole from his boss. With nowhere else to go, he calls his old friend Mikey, also employed by the same local crime boss. Together the two drift through the city at night with a hitman not far behind. An anxiety inducing melodrama about male friendship and cruelty driven masculinity, with a pair of staggeringly brilliant performances, a sharply witty script and equally edged direction from Elaine May- Mikey and Nicky.
An intersex sex worker goes on the run after a mobster dies in his company. On the way he takes a hard look at his life, relationships, challenges with his own identity, and if any of it is what he wants. An incredible script, written by lead River Gallo, driving a bus full of strong performances and stylishly assured direction in a film that that deserves far more eyeballs than it has received so far- Ponyboi.

A Good Day to Nakadai Hard

This week a four film tribute to an actor whose career spanned seven decades, the legendary Tatsuya Nakadai.

A penniless samurai leaves his wife for improved social status and the daughter of wealthy family. A young woodcutter, taking refuge from a blizzard, confronts a yuki-onna. A blind musician performs for a dead Emperor, who plans to keep him playing in his ghostly court forever. A lord sees a face he doesn't know reflected back in his cup of tea and soon is visited by their ghostly and murderous attendants. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful films of all time and based on the legends collected by Yakumo Koizumi, whose work gave Western audiences their first look into Japanese culture- Kwaidan.
An amoral master swordsman, with a habit of random street murders, has to leave his home after killing an opponent after a duel and takes his opponent's wife with him. Two years later, in Edo, he has joined a secret assassin squad to support the shogunate and his past begins to catch up with him. The first in a planned trilogy, never completed due to the amounts of violence in the first film, based on one of the longest books ever written over 41 volumes and published over 28 years, The Sword of Doom.
Masagoro Kiryuin, a contradictor gang-boss who sees himself as a chivalric protector, adopts a daughter. Matsue is smart, has a thirst for knowledge, and struggles against the boundaries society has set for her. A yakuza melodrama that covers several decades of their lives- Onimasa (aka Kiryûin Hanako no shôgai).
2,217 British and Australian prisoners of war had been forced to work on the Burma railway and build a bridge. Now they are being taken to Japan to fill in the increasing manpower shortage. Stuffed into the hold of a hell ship, without enough air, water, or food, it seems unlikely the majority will survive to their destination. Or will they all die at the hands of patrolling American submarines? Not a sequel to the similarly titled classic, Return from the River Kwai.

This week- two films about men with great destines.

After attempting suicide, former court composer of Joseph II, Antonio Salieri confesses to having murdered Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. 49 years earlier, learning that Mozart was a childishly obscene reprobate with divine musical inspiration lead Salieri to renounce God and swear to take his revenge by destroying Mozart. Another masterwork by one of cinema's patron saints of nonconformity, Miloš Forman, with a screenplay by Peter Shaffer, based on his Tony Award winning play, and driven by one of the greatest villain performances ever put to film, Amadeus.
In 2005, a seemingly random mass stabbing left two people dead and one injured before the assailant jumped off a cliff; his body was never found. Three years later, found footage horror filmmaker Koji Shiraishi sets out to make a documentary about the aftermath and interviews the survivors. Shohei Eno, whose wounds are in the shape of a strange symbol, claims that he is grateful and ever since has witnessed miracles nearly everyday. Before long, Eno begins to hint at another act of extreme violence will be happening soon and insists Shiraishi has a part to play in it. A found footage by the director who literally wrote the Textbook of Fake Documentaries and made two of the first J-Horrors to breakout internationally, Koji Shiraishi's woefully overlooked Occult.

This week we learn a lessons on loneliness and self-improvement.

Sonya runs her family funeral parlor. She lives an isolated and routine life, above the parlor, with her distant father. The business is slowly going under and she is under a crushing amount of debt owed to a psychotic landlord. Sonya finds an unlikely companion in the unclaimed cadaver of an elderly woman. The third film by Dwein Baltazar and produced by Black Sheep Productions, the Philippine answer to A24, Oda sa Wala (English: Ode to Nothing).
Susan finds no satisfaction with her working class life and yearns for an escape. When her husband and father start to really push her to have a baby, her fear of forever being shackled to the daily monotony drive her to start attending Open University courses on Literature. Her tutor, Dr. Frank Bryant, is jaded by the pretensions of university culture and drowns his misery in public alcoholism. Susan's verve rekindles Frank's passion for literature and Frank's teaching opens doors to a bohemian life and newly discovered self-confidence for Susan. Lewis Gilbert's reverse Pygmalion with a pair of fantastic lead performances and based on screenwriter Willy Russell's play of the same title, Educating Rita.

Kids go to school and read classic sci-fi/fantasy novels. Free roaming imaginary friends impart wisdom their playmates shouldn't know. And a confrontation is drawing close. The second feature written and directed by Natalya Kudryashova delicately balances grim realism with lyrical fantasies- Gerda.

After witnessing the murder of her jewel stealing boyfriend, Carmen is escorted across Texas by a pair of unorthodox FBI agents with three professional killers hot on their heels. One of the many once forgotten indie films brought to cult prominence by Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas, the first feature by long time stunt man John Stewart- Action U.S.A.

Australian super stunt man, Grant Page, takes a job working for an American television series and moves to LA. Once there he reunites with his cousin, a member of the band Sorcery, a rock band with fantasy theatrical stage shows. Refusing to rest after Grant is injured on his very first stunt, his dedication to his craft draws the attention of both the show's lead actress, Monique van de Ven, but also journalist Lois. Together the threesome attend a lot of Sorcery concerts, attend lavish Hollywood parties with the band, and occasionally meditate on the joys of extreme living. Brian Trenchard-Smith's attempt to make Page a world class action star and Sorcery something more than an 8th rate Alice Cooper clone, Stunt Rock.

Is there a twist in this knot of boiling jealousies? Directed by one of the most influential directors of the Noir Era and 1999 inductee to the Library of Congress National Film Registry, Laura.

Refusing to give up the infant, Violeta starts down a path that will bring violence and loss to those around her. A musical melodrama from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema with gorgeous cinematography by Gabriel Figuerao, highlighting his incredible handling of chiaroscuro, and a powerhouse performance from Ninón Sevilla, Victimas del Pecado (English title: Victims of Sin).

No one stops to ask why someone enraged by lies obsessively calls a phone number designed to explicitly lie to you. A mostly forgotten slasher with the greatest late 80s supporting cast possible, Out of the Dark.
Six friends going to a lakeside weekend get away realize they are hopelessly lost. To correct this mistake, they pick up an on the run hitchhiker. Even their new guide isn't enough to get them where they are going so they decide to stop for the night. Instead of being reasonable and going back to the recently passed through town, they instead decide to break into an obviously still inhabited house. The penultimate film from Spanish erotic horror legend José Ramón Larraz, Deadly Manor.
Five friends on a road trip find themselves in need of assistance. Enter Mr. Slausen, owner defunct roadside attraction Lost Oasis, offers them assistance and shelter for the night. Unfortunately, Slausen's huge property is also home to a masked murdering telekinetic mannequin maker. Soon the friends find themselves in more than mortal peril. The first feature from director David Schmoeller with a great performance from sports and TV legend Chuck Connors, Tourist Trap.

The newly freed nocturnal predator takes up residence in an abandoned building on the grounds, insinuates himself back into the family, and begins to target the governess, who bares a striking resemblance to his long lost fiancée. The first feature adaption of a cult classis soap opera and using much of the original series cast reprising their roles- House of Dark Shadows.
Iemon, a scheming ronin, plots to dispose of his wife, Oiwa, and improve his station by marrying the daughter of a local samurai clan's daimyo. In order to facilitate this someone poisons Oiwa. Soon all will face her terrible revenge as she returns as an onryo. A film based on one of Japan's most popular ghost stories that has been adapted to film over 40 times, including TWO version being released in 1959. Leading to Kevin watching the Kenji Mitsumi version while Dave and Tyler mistakenly watch Nobou Nakagawa's... either way it is titled The Ghost of Yostuya (original Japanese: Yotsuya kaidan).
In the country of Heaven Valley, a man hunts the murderer of his wife. Finding the country's police force fully corrupt and unwilling to help, he summons a demon to assist in his bloody revenge. An Italian splatter action film that takes its cue from classic 1980s manga to kachu tenshin amaguriken all over the city- Adam Chaplin.
Dumass Beach, a private prison corporation's founder and CEO, is developing the next generation of law enforcement, AI controlled robots who stop at nothing to keep America safe. In order to better teach the machine how to effectively judge situations and decide on the proper course of action, Beach hires a storytelling funeral director. Portifoy Simms is happy to obligingly deliver four more allegories. A legacy sequel released 23 years after the original, Tales from the Hood 2.

A 90s cult classic, backed by several fantastic performances, which would get a pair of sequels over twenty years later, Tales from the Hood.
Mark is a wannabe cinematographer living in Los Angeles. He struggles to establish his career, only finding work filming short pornographic scenes for a man he despises, and unable to form connects with women, often ending with brutal violence. All of that may change when he meets Michelle, a young woman he meets at work in a committed relationship with a similar background and interests. A rediscovered psychotronic exploitation that might be among the best of the subgenre. The first and tragically only feature written and directed by Christina Hornisher, Hollywood 90028.
Professor Hildern returns from an expedition in New Guinea with a remarkable discovery- a giant humanoid skeleton older than any previously recovered and twice as advanced. This is just the beginning of the puzzle as the Professor discovers exposure to water will cause rapid regeneration of tissue and cell which will change everything we know, a similar line of research that his psychiatrist brother is perusing. Directed by Hammer and Amicus regular Freddie Francis and starring the legends of British horror, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, The Creeping Flesh.

After a youth with a drug-induced smile plastered on, an aspiring comedic performer gets their chance to fulfill their dream and join the cast of UCB Live. Being unable to afford the required training fee, they join with a new friend to start their own underground comedy troupe. A DIY coming of age story, one of the best superhero films ever made, a joyfully screaming satire covering an emotional story of self-acceptance- The People's Joker.

At the end of World War II a lost work by Vermeer is discovered in a Hermann Goering's hidden treasure trove. Captain Joseph Piller, who works for the Canadian military administration of the Netherlands and former resistance fighter, is tasked with tracking down whoever sold the painting. Soon he discovers Han van Meegrene and arrests him for collaboration and using the sale proceeds to fund a Nazi espionage network. van Meegrene's defense will be not just unexpected but shake up the art world for generations. The only feature directed by producer/conservationist/potential owner of a Houston Texas NHL team Dan Friedkin, The Last Vermeer.

Hathaway recruits a team of brilliant students to do the work for him as he redirects project funds to build a massive new house. As the deadline looms he recruits a budding genius in physics, Mitch, and places him under one of his heroes, Chris Knight, now a disillusioned slacker just trying to survive his final year. A 1980s comedy classic and one of the best college films of that century- Real Genius.

An early film from John Swab, a favorite filmmaker of Tyler's, about existential criminal crisis in the Bible Belt- Let Me Make You a Martyr.
Cerebral and coolheaded Detective Somerset is looking forward to retiring at the end of the week. His replacement, young and brash Detective Mills, arrives just in time for a little touch passing and training. Unfortunately for them both, this all happens just as a serial killer with a religiously inspire masterplan announces his arrival in sadistic fashion. Both a number close to Kevin's heart and widely considered on of director David Fincher's best films- Seven.
In 1964, Johnny Bartlett was executed for killing 12 people at the local hospital. In 1990 Frank Bannister's wife died under mysterious circumstances with the number "13" craved into her forehead. The trauma leaves Frank with the ability to communicate with ghosts. Now Frank leads a pack of spirited haunters and is about to learn that Bartlett's rampage might not be as far in the past as everyone assumes it it. An uneven goofy romp with deeply disturbing meta undertones, just like Dave, and the first major effects project helmed by Peter Jackson- The Frighteners.
Gal and his wife have long since left their seedy London criminal origins for a nice quiet life in Spain. When they get the news that an old psychotic associate, Don, will soon be arriving with a job offer. Unwilling to take no for an answer and with a violent temper that knows little restraint, Gal just might find himself back with the gang for one more heist. The first feature from Craig's favorite director and costarring a fistful of his favorite actors- Sexy Beast.

Unfortunately, his brilliance is countered at every step by the governmental powers that be and those jealous of his natural brilliance. Heavily referencing Roman history and written like something out of the Ayn Rand school of inane bullshit comes what is likely the final feature** from a legendary director of the 1970s, a brain dead rim job about how artists are fucking magic and above your morality or some bullshit, Megalopolis.
All that and Dave completely dissociates to the point of never being whole again, Craig rages into an embolism, Kevin takes a long hard look at his life choices, and Tyler is very sticky for some reason.

*Nontraditional in the way that we are, socially, just not ready to discussion the greater transitional history and reality of most relationships.

Will Viktor be able to paint a portrait to satisfy the Countess? Will Lucy have herself overwritten by the Count's ancient memories? Can Sigmund get a good night's sleep? An Austrian horror comedy from David Rüehm, Therapy for a Vampire.
Charlotte, a shy, emotionally traumatized, and understandably repressed college freshman arrives to start her new life with a fencing scholarship. Tragically, she is also being targeted by a centuries old half vampire, who needs her blood to lifting his blood sucking curse and finds herself the target of the least likable and tedious girl on campus. Can Charlette find a place for her self on the team or will her bully push her out with the sheer power of her generic sarcasm? Will the vampire find their cure? Can we, as a planet, finally move beyond stupid concepts like virginity that are just excuses for men to fetishize and shame women? The 21st work from prolific Canadian director Carl Bessai and remake of a well loved 90s Skinemax classic, Embrace of the Vampire.
For centuries vampires ruled the world but now they are dying out and hunted by the long repressed remains of humanity. When Baron Meier Link abducts Charlotte, the daughter of a wealthy family, her father hires a dhampir named D to find her and rescue her dead or alive. D isn't the only hunter on the trail as the family has also hired the Marcus Brothers team to track their lost lamb. Soon all three groups clash in bloody conflicts to hold on to the girl. The second adaption of Kikuchi Hideyuki's massive novel franchise (55 entries at this moment) with gorgeous animation and fluid action from equally prolific studio Madhouse, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.

Jonathon Miller is a failed writer teaching in a small Tennessee town. Cairo Sweet is an 18-year old senior living alone in a large mansion with generational wealth. Cairo is smart, highly literate, and flatters Miller's vanity by having read his terrible book. Angela is married to a Long Island mafia rising star but the luster of their life has long since been rubbed off for her. When the boss finds out her husband is also having an affair with the same girl, hubby is not long for this world. Angela takes the opportunity to move out of their home of ill gotten gains and start again. Unfortunately for her both the boss and the FBI are desperately trying to get her in their respective beds. Jonathon Demme's broadly wacky comedy loudly swirls around a complex heroine struggling for freedom and a future where she is no longer Married to the Mob.

Is it a cheap attempt to get free labor out of the online fandom for a quick buck? Maybe yes to all, either way it is Shrek Retold.

When Frederic sees a photograph of old ruins by the sea, he suddenly remembers a beautiful young woman his preteen self fell in love with. Obsessing over finding the ruins location, he soon finds himself the target of nefarious forces. Will Frederic find solace in the dilapidated stones or will he only see Lips of Blood (aka Levres de sang).
Driving along a lonely road late at night, Robert comes across a woman running. Stopping to help the obviously distressed and partially dressed blonde, he soon learns that she has memory issues and doesn't remember who or what she was running from or even who she has spent the last few hours with. A tale of medical negligence and patient abuse- The Night of the Hunted (French title- La nuit des traquees).

Years ago a small French village murdered a squad of Nazis and dumped their bodies in the lake. As everyone should have. Now the Nazis rise again as zombies hellbent on eating all the women they find and reclaiming one's daughter. Considered by some to be one of the worst films ever made- Zombie Lake (original title Les lac des morts vivants).
French secret service operative Rick is shot and killed. The only clue to the whereabouts of a new bioweapon he had in his possession is a picture of Eva, a young exotic dancer. Soon a desperate race against an evil syndicate in the search for the dreaded weapon begins on The Sidewalks of Bangkok (aka Les trottoirs de Bangkok).

A prequel to Nalo Hopkinson's debut novel, Brown Girl Begins. (Fun fact I forgot to mention in episode- Director Sharon Lewis played rapper Drake's mother on Degrassi TNG.)

Neuroscientists being testing of a remarkable breakthrough- connecting two brains directly. Lukas, researcher and generally bored of everything scumbag, is selected to be the first psychonaut- being injected into the head of an anonymous woman in a coma. Immediately, Lukas being making nonsensical stupid decisions and obsessing. Why does no one notice his extreme reactions and wild violent mood swings? They all too busy seeing the Vanishing Waves.

In the not-too-distant-future eugenics is the new way of life and everyone is sorted into valid and in-valid categories. Despite discrimination against the unmodified being technically illegal, it overnight became the only standard of worth for all mankind. Natural born Vincent Freeman is predicted to have the most ridiculous number of issues before an early death but he refuses to accept this. Finding a willing co-conspirator, Vincent sets out to follow his dream at Gattaca.

In 1885, self proclaimed librarian Jonathan Harker arrives take charge of some books at a lonely castle. Mr. Harker didn't tell anyone that his real job is vampire hunter and the noble whose books he used as cover is named Dracula. Things don't work out as planned and soon Dr. Van Helsing goes to find Harker while Dracula goes to find Harker's friends in England. Hammer's first entry in it's take on Bram Stoker's fangy fiend, Dracula (aka Horror of Dracula).
In 1995, a shlub whose barely holding on to his job taking family portraits finds himself being called to be a hero. When he and five others are trapped inside a building by a mischievous spirit from the distant past. Will our shutterbug step up or will the sun rise on the building only inhabited by the dead? The middle entry in Donald G Jackson's puppet trilogy starring Joe Estevez and Conrad Brooks, Baby Ghost.

One of the first films to be rated X with fiendishly catchy songs, strong performances, plenty of thought-provoking subtly under the bawdy exterior, and possibly Bob Fosse's most enduring and still relevant work- Cabaret.
Liz is a street prostitute who is weary of her life and desperate to escape her pimp. As she wonders the late night streets of LA, Liz directly tells the audience of her history, from her youth to the current moment, and why she keeps going. Based on a monologue play, one of the first to be given a NC-17 rating in the US, anchored by a strong lead performance and strong visuals. Ken Russell's satirical drama tries to bring pathos and humanity to the world's oldest profession, Whore.

Three of the young researchers and the head archeologist's brain damaged son soon find themselves being hurtled through time in a desperate rescue mission. Based on the novel by genre master Michael Crichton that was either cut too heavily or not heavily enough, depending on who you ask, Timeline.

When the body of someone she had a one night stand with is found along the shore, it's curious but not enough for another investigator to take over. By the time the third is found its downright troubling. A heavily James Patterson-inspired women in trouble thriller, a staple genre of the 1990s and early 2000s, and one of the most commercial works from director Philip Kaufman, Twisted.

Manji, an ageless immortal drifting through under a traumatic loss, is hired to be the bodyguard for Rin, an orphan on a quest for revenge. Rin's father was murdered by the Itto-ryu, a group of samurai assassins seeking to bring all schools of combat together under them, and their leader Kagehisa Anotsu. This live action adaption of a successful manga and anime series is also Miike's 100th directorial effort, Blade of the Immortal.
It has been a decade since Iwao sacrificed his eldest son to settle a dispute with a rival gang. Now younger son, Riki, is getting revenge. Riki also happens to be the head of a gang of startlingly young assassins, who have the leaders of his father's gang squarely in their sights. Buckets of blood flow, killer darts are fired from undergarments, preteen gunmen, games with unusual balls, and a biker who like a good scrap- Fudoh: The New Generation.

A late-90s studio cult classic that attempts to capture the indie crime film vibe of the era, Go.
Jesse Genesis' father has been missing since being in a theater that had a mass shooting event two years ago. Jesse convinces himself that if he can earn his black belt in the week before Christmas, at the rate of a belt a day, his father will come home. At night, Jesse has dreams of the shooter rambling his manifesto guiding his efforts. Meanwhile, Jesse's mother falls in with a psychic law professor. A truly terrible movie where half of the footage is edited out of an earlier terrible movie, A Karate Christmas Miracle.
Anna has to accept that plans for the future are derailed by a zombie outbreak. John just wants to be near Anna. Chris is trying to reunite with his girlfriend and grandmother. Steph just wants her car back. Nick is having the time of his life, finally being able to indulge in his more brutal inclinations. The vice principle goes mad with power. All while constantly breaking into pop songs. A newer Scottish cult classic that has a fanbase as rabid as any, Anna and the Apocalypse.
The sorority sisters have been getting calls from The Moaner for a little while now. On the last night before everyone separates for their winter break, the calls take a darker turn and now the house residents are being picked off one by one. Bob Clark's classic slasher film which established so many still used tropes and still casts a long shadow, Black Christmas.

He rushes immediately to the scene, only to discover the creature itself sent the letter in order to ask a favor almost as large as its shoe size. The second directorial effort from Chris Butler and Laika, the best Western animation studio currently active, Missing Link.

The first of a wildly popular cult trilogy, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (aka Harold & Kumar Get the Munchies in the UK).

Tati's staggeringly massive auteuristic undertaking that both bankrupted him and firmly established his place among the greatest directors in the history of the medium, Playtime.
Controversial American writer, director, photographer, and lover of nubile young flesh, Larry Clark, turns his specific view of youth culture on Parisians. Math is a bored skater with a horrific homelife who takes up prostituting himself to earn shocking amounts of overpayment for services rendered from kinky older men. JP, Math's best friend and fellow escort, soon begins to realize his love for Math is far from platonic. Marie is the girl who hangs around them in a couple scenes so we can firmly establish the boys sexual preferences. Marie also flirts with a third young sex worker, who only works with older women so he can provide for his family. Soon all the kids find themselves in a whirlpool of sex, drugs, skate videos, and a few more serious felonies. None of them will ever be able to wash off The Smell of Us.
All that and Kevin gets fitted for a new trench coat, Dave does as little as possible, and Tyler scents all over his happy place.

Winner of the 1960 Edgar Award for Best Foreign Screenplay, Sapphire.
Following in her missing mother's footsteps, Sam works as an assassin for shadowy global dominating organization, The Firm. Tragically, Sam overindulges in a murder spree and accidentally kills the son of a rival group's leader and is offered up by her bosses to make amends. Fortunately, her mother suddenly returns and her mother's librarian friends help. Neon and sugar and homages, Gunpowder Milkshake.
All that and Dave resumes the Great Work, Kevin refuses to go anywhere without proper noir levels ambient lit of fog, and Tyler realizes that his apple didn't fall far from Papa T's tree. Join us, won't you?

A ridiculously creepy German photographer has absolutely no issues commuting the least interesting murder spree ever put to film despite openly stalking children and being prone to shouting about Hitler at everyone on first meeting them. A movie whose limp attempt at viral marketing has left a lingering bad taste in the mouths of many online horror communities... Murder-Set-Pieces.
Return once again to the sleepy wetlands of Honey Island Swamp, where the screams of those who wonder into the territory of Victor Crowley ring out. Picking up immediately where the previous film ended, sole survivor Marybeth Dunston enlists the aide of local entrepreneur Reverend Zombie to end the swamp's curse once and for all. Assuming everyone doesn't get a... Hatchet II ...the face this time.
Artist Anthony McCoy is struggling to find inspiration until his girlfriend's brother tells him the story of Helen Lyle, who went on a killing spree and kidnapped a baby before throwing herself into a bonfire. As Anthony digs deeper into the truth of the story, and the history of the currently gentrifying area it happened in, he learns of the cyclical nature of an ever renewing legend. Arguably the best legacy sequel so far, do not say his name five times in a mirror... Candyman.

The 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division receive five fresh replacements. They are placed under battle-weary Frantz, who has only a brief amount of time to get them ready for a major operation in the A Shau Valley. The battalion faces unexpected resistance while trying to take Hill 937. Over the course of ten days, Hill 937 would become a pivotal battle that lead to a massive shift in the US strategy, including, the first withdrawals, and leave the battle know as Hamburger Hill.
Helverton, Colorado is a nice mountain town where a shockingly large percentage of the population is into Urban Primitivism. This doesn't even register to the police or normies until one takes things too far. Hunting mid90s chatrooms under the screenname Captain Howdy, a predator is capturing and torturing young teens. When Howdy takes the daughter of a local detective, no one suspects the events that will unfold and the lasting scars left on the town. A film read the coming trends a bit too early for audiences, Strangeland.

A collaboration for reasons that aren't made very clear. The federal government has only one man to turn to, former DEA/CIA/FBI/USASF asset John Harmon. Harmon once was in a Sonora compound and that's why he's the only man who can lead this mission, the why wasn't made very clear, but for some reason they gave him a... CONTRACT TO KILL!
The world has fallen to an outbreak of viral vampirism. A band of former military, led by a mysterious man called Tao, roams the wastes killing the infected with bladed weapons and leather coats for... reasons... bad ass reasons you wouldn't understand. Meanwhile, poor deserves better than this Keith David and Linden Ashby clash heads as one wants to, rightly, flash fry the overwhelmed with infected building Tao's group is wondering through for reasons that aren't made very clear. Who can stand... AGAINST THE DARK!!
Marshall Law, not the Tekken character.... yeah... I got excited too, leads an elite unit for the US Military in France. In theory anyway because his whole unit is murdered on their first night together. This brings Law into an elaborate conspiracy of French mobsters and super drugs... and maybe aliens... who plan on poisoning the Parisian water supply to turn everyone into an addicted murder machine. For reasons that aren't made very clear. Who will survive the... ATTACK FORCE!!!
After single handedly saving the Vice President of the United States from a militant group's assassination attempt, Detroit detective Orin Boyd, is punished and sent to the city's worst precinct. Before long, Boyd accidentally disrupts a sting operation against drug dealer Latrell Walker and makes an enemy of the undercover officer involved. Soon everything will be made so explicitly clear. Everywhere Boyd goes he leaves a lot of... EXIT WOUNDS!!!!
All that and Dave takes a boat trip, Craig's machinations finally spring their trap, Kevin reveals the extent of his emotional traumas, and Tyler does so much homework that we all worry for his safety. Join us, won't you?

All that changes when, only days before the young lovers exchange vows, he meets Vince Ricardo, father of the groom and teller of ridiculous tales. After being urged by his wife and daughter to be more open to this odd man he will soon be related to, Shelly happily obliges when Vince asks a favor the very next day. A favor that will lead him thousands of miles from home and on the run from a parade of gunmen. A classic double team comedy- The In-Laws.

Soon the boys are in a desperate fight for their lives with only their limited wits and local fauna excrement to save them. Meanwhile, Sargent Morag hunts a notorious thief. A darling of the 2019 South by Southwest Film Festival and debut feature of writer/director Ninian Doff- Get Duked! (aka Boyz in the Wood).
It's 1974, for some reason, and a van full of kids are driving through remote and empty backroads they are totally unfamiliar with on their way to see Lynyrd Skynyrd, with front row seats. They decide to pick up a second female wondering the side of the road, probably hoping she will be as friendly as the first one was. Unfortunately, the new pick up is severely traumatized and our leads are too damn thick to not get themselves killed. The first film from Platinum Dunes, the feature debut of prolific music video director Marcus Nispel, and a remake of Craig's favorite horror movie- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003).

Diane lives with her younger brother and single father. Being a lonely teen with raging hormones, she tries to unsuccessfully explore her burgeoning sexuality with a local boy. Fortunately, a wild new neighbor is happy to drag Anna along on her casual sexual adventures. Will Diane embrace her friend's ways or forge her own path? Some call it an oedipal complex but the French call it Puppylove.

Centered by a powerhouse performance from Craig Fairbrass in a pitch black comedy about toxic masculinity and how far one can be pushed, Muscle.
In the not too distant future, the world as we know it is over. The remains of humanity live in caves and scavenge to survive. When young David kills one of the tribe's leaders, he and his friends are banished to soon die in the wilds. Luckily they stumble on a solar powered city from the past and its two last residents. Larry Clark's entry in a series of AIP remakes with creature designs by the legendary Stan Winston Studios, Teenage Caveman.

This week a pair of grounded fantasies with people living their own realities.

An Italian noble uses mercenaries to retake his city. In order to spur on his troops, he promises them 24 hours free reign to plunder as they see fit. Being as that is a stupid promise, it doesn't go well and soon the noble has the mercenaries routed from the city without their promised loot. Lost and without direction, some of them reform into a bandit group led by Martin and a statue of St. Martin. Soon they will have new home, riches, and the betrothed of one of their betrayers. As tensions rise soon nothing will stop the Flesh and Blood (stylized Flesh + Blood) from running through the streets in Paul Verhoeven's first English language film.
Justin Playfair has spent his life fighting the system's abuses as a judge. After the death of his wife, he begins to believe himself Sherlock Holmes. In order to gain control of Justin's money, his brother tries to have him committed under the care of Doctor Mildred Watson. Soon the pair find themselves racing through New York in a desperate effort to stop the king of crime, and probably only imaginary, Moriarty. A rich cast of character actors and the makers of The Lion and Winter wonder if They Might Be Giants after all.

I said, NOT ANYTHING ELSE, okay? Tom Hanks, in the brief period between Bosom Buddies and Splash, acts his little TV movie loving heart out while being corrupted by MAZES & MONSTERS.
A fictionalized account of the rise of Norwegian Black Metal. Euronymous and his band Mayhem create a new subgenre that is eagerly devoured, by not just local youth, but globally. When the band is derailed by a tragedy, they regroup opening a record shop that is also a social hub for their growing brand of music. It isn't long until everything goes wrong and the dark edge of their music leads to arson and murder. Based on the book of the same name, titled after a group not connected to the events depicted here, Lords of Chaos.
Billy Tipton was a jazz musician, talent agent, caring husband and doting father. When Billy died, a closely guarded secret was revealed, and his life was spun and reframed by tabloids and talk shows in the very LGBT unfriendly late-1980s. A meta-biographical documentary about both Tipton and some more modern trans masculine experiences. Layered revelations and personal interpretations try to reframe Billy's life and legacy from the sensationalist view that has dominated it in the decades after his death. A film about trying to have an ordinary life while being No Ordinary Man.

This week- a pair of films about lawbreakers who might be more than they appear.

17-year-old Isabelle decides to start a side hustle after losing her virginity on vacation. When her favorite client, Georges, does something deeply traumatizing, Isabelle's secret life will soon be revealed. A more recent entry from Francois Ozon, one of France's most important modern filmmakers, Young & Beautiful (Jeune & Jolie).
Early in the morning, two police detectives breakdown the door of Edward Fleming. After roughing him up, ransacking his apartment, and openly parading him, handcuffed, passed all of his neighbors, Fleming is left alone in an interrogation room without any idea why he is there. Slowly it is revealed the detectives believe he was in the company of a missing man and a stolen car but that's not what they are really after. As the hours pass a desperate game of cat and mouse develops between the three men. A film that won multiple AACTA Awards on release and driven by a powerhouse performance by Hugo Weaving, just a year before breaking through to global success with The Matrix, 1998's The Interview.
All that and Dave watches some shorts about masculinity, Tyler jiggles his Travolta bubble erotically, and Kevin is starting to realize his partner might be planning on killing him. Join us, won't you?

Now whenever Bruce gets angry he becomes a green rage monster. Meanwhile, two estranged fathers try to use this as a way to reconnect with their children. Chaos ensues. Ang Lee's ambitious comic book adaption- Hulk.
It's been 50 years since an accident involving lime soda and Seabrook's mysterious energy source created a zombie outbreak. In the decades that followed, the town has become stringently uniform, everyone dresses the same, the only ice cream flavor is vanilla, and cheerleading is the local obsession (because the football team has been dire since the outbreak). Now, thanks to the invention of the Z-band, zombies to live fairly normal lives in their quarantined section of the town. But change is coming, the first class of zombies are being integrated into the local high school and the cheer squad isn't happy with this development. Disney's West Undead Story- Zombies.

For Michael's seventeenth birthday, his bestie Tony gifts him one of Hasbro's most popular board games and a pair of supernatural bonus gifts that apparently come with it. Now Michael has to try and save people we have to assume are his friends, despite how much believing he has friends breaks suspension of disbelief, from a serial killer. Why is Michael having these visions? Who is killing his circle of distant acquaintances? How much extra did they pay the romantic interest for her massive ability to not roll her eyes while speaking to Michael? No matter what, just Don't Panic.
DC area punk band, Arlington's The Ain't Rights, are on an extended couch surfing tour on the other side of the country. Low on cash, out of gas, and without any future gigs they take a well paying slot in a Neo-Nazi bar somewhere outside of Portland. Soon they are drawn into a violent event that leaves them terrified, barricaded, and with little hope they will see the next morning. What happened in the Green Room?
All that and Dave hopes dimensions to meet other Daves - they are all bastards but very pretty, Tyler plots revenge against the Pokemon Company, and Kevin swears a blood oath to the demon that lives in his neighbor's sump pump. Join us, won't you?
