Highlights of 2011

Christel visited me for the first time

I went to London with Betsi and spent time with the most wonderful people

Had a good time in Tallinn with good friends

Celebrated the most insane Vappu ever

Went to Berlin on a uni trip

Stood on stage in cosplay for the first time and it was a success

Went to Los Angeles and spent time with these amazing girls

Dressed up as Disney villains

Partook in a Lolita fashion show in Tartu, Estonia

Went to Japan with Mirka and Noora

Ended the year with geeky cupcakes

And now then, what supposedly is the last year of history has started. A lot is going to happen this year too, and among the things I really hope to do is;

Visit Betsi in Iceland

Go to London again

Play Kingdom Hearts 3D

Take part in the World Cosplay Summit try-outs

Have a very good year

Emmi came to town

On Monday Emmi came over to stay with me for a few days. It’s been so long since I last saw her and it’s great fun. Yesterday we dressed up, because that’s what we do when we hang out, and headed for the center. Emmi had a couple of stores she wanted to visit.

We also encountered the most polite middle aged lady ever, who asked us for pictures. Usually people either just rudely take pictures or just simply ask, which is the good alternative. This lady however ensured us several times that the pictures were just for herself because she really “liked how pretty we were” and that they weren’t gonna end up in some weird place. Quite amazing.

Creme de la Garderobe vol 2

The 6th of November some wonderful Finnish lolitas organized the event Creme de la Garderobe for the second time. The first time was back in 2009 and now after two year we returned to Kahvila Villipuutarha again. It was all about selling and buying beautiful clothes and enjoying the great company. Though onceagain the space was far too small. Maybe it would be a good idea to abandon Villipuutarha despite its beauty the next time.

I haven’t dressed up very often lately, the last time before this event being the Animatsuri fashion show in September but I must say I’ve missed it and it was a lot of fun!

The last couple of days this video has been making it’s way around the international lolita community like a fire. And really, it’s absolutely brilliant. They’ve managed to catch pretty much every stereotype and bad inside joke, especially from the last couple of years. Many of them are also timeless. “When I die I’ll be buried in a Moitie casket.” Watching this really made my day, I hope it makes yours too!

Today school is over for everyone and summer is officially here. I had one graduation party to attend so a little dress up was needed. Summer really did come though, and this turned out to be a quite hot outfit. What happened to the suitably warm 20c summers?

Blouse and tights are from Seppälä and skirt and shoes from H&M. The necklace is a Kalevala Koru that I got for my graduation two years ago.

Lolitastic day

Today I attended the best meetup I have ever been to. Iiraliina organized what I think is the biggest meetup in the Finnish lolita community’s history and it worked out amazingly well. The theme for the meetup was flowers and of course I dressed according to the theme:

The dress and blouse are Bodyline and the shoes Emily Temple Cute. This is my first time wearing a wig with lolita but it turned out very nicely I think! I did bring a plastic flower as a prop for pictures, but once I started walking around taking pictures I forgot it by my bag and forgot to use it in my own pictures. Oh well.

I have a lot of pictures and I’ll be going through them and making a bigger post about the meet itself. All I can say is a very very big thank you to Iira and all the best wishes for her new life over in the Netherlands. We shall miss you a lot!

So, please be expecting lots of pictures!

Gyoza

Yesterday I met up with Ville in the afternoon and had some coffee while waiting for Mirka to be done with school. It was time for another one of our legendary Japan-nights. It’s really so much fun andso much nostalgia surrounds it all. Always puts me in a good mood!

But first yesterday’s look!

It’s pretty much H&M all the way. Dark blue is definitely the colour that has me drooling nowadays.

Then, the menu for the day was Gyoza. We’ve made it quite many times but it’s probably been at least a year since the last time me and Mirka made some. So now it was again time. We shopped the needed ingredients and headed up to my apartment for some cooking.

Gyoza was probably one of my absolute favorite dishes in Japan. It’s also very cheap and easy to make, so I did get to eat a lot of it. It’s originally a Chinese dish that the Japanese have adopted and slightly modified. I must admit I don’t think I’ve tried the original version, but I think they’re supposed to be boiled not fried. Of course, just like with any dumplings, you cna put pretty much anything into it. But the pork version is the one you will get when buying gyoza in Japan.

For gyoza you need:

Pork minced meat
Cabbage
Green/spring onion
Fresh ginger
Garlic
Sesame oil
Soy sauce
Dumpling dough

It’s very easy, just mix everything, mash it and put it in the dumpling wrapper things. There is a little bit of a technique to get the shape right (That Ville didn’t master ) but basically you fold half of the circle into these small pleats. And of course use a little water to get it sticky.

Don’t put too much filling, it gets hard to close the gyoza!

My laptop was playing the biggest Japanese hits from 2007. Sen no Kaze anyone?

Once done filling them just fry them in the pan and you’ll get deliscious-looking gyoza!

Sunday off

I’ve been quite busy lately, with lots of work and even a uni trip to Berlin. I’m still working my way through all the pictures, but I’ll post some once I’m done. Today I have the day off however, and the first half was spent meeting upp with Emmi, who came to Helsinki for a concert tonight. Her favorite japanese band is in Finland and of course she’s going. And as we get to meet far too seldom this was a perfect chance!
