Save Neighborhood Art Along the Bloomingdale!

A project is underway to create an outdoor bike path out of the old Bloomingdale railroad. This is a great idea! However, the think tank behind this has another intention; to destroy all extant art along the railroad walls...art which reflects the unique nature of each community. They say something about "lead paint". Lead paint that's been there for 100 years and was apparently never a problem before? Lead paint which, assuming it exists, could be safer to seal it somehow rather than tearing it all up?
I am in contact with several other Artists and Community groups who believe that the plan to destroy all extant art along the trail can be avoided. My opinion is that it may be a plan to destroy the "street feel" of the trail, to disempower real Community involvement, and eliminate the ethnic and political art to make way for gentrification. "The Trust for Public Land" has stated that they are very sincerely concerned about what the people in the Community want. I believe them. I believe that they really want what the people want. We are the people. If you are an Artist or a Community member (if you are reading this then you must be!) and you feel that the extant art along the Bloomingdale trail is an expression of the history and flavor of each neighborhood and deserves to be preserved, please contact the following persons and ask them very kindly to Save the EXTANT art on the Bloomingdale trail!!!
