A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine asked me if I could take pictures of the stars to help in her astrology project. Since we live in congested area, we knew we would have to travel to find the right place. Thankfully, her friend invited us to visit her dad's house in rural Virgina, about 2 hours away from where we live. I had never heard of Bumpass, Virginia. When we go there it was as isolated as promised when we got there. No malls or wifi in sight.

I have seen thousands of pictures of the stars, but nothing is as breathtaking as seeing a night full of stars with your own eyes. My camera can't fully capture the beauty of it. We stayed up until 3 in the morning, freezing in a tent outside her friend's house. We huddled together and drank raspberry tea. My friend would point at the constellations and explained their movement. Gemini, Orion, Lepus...I thought about how small we are but how lucky we are to experience the beauty of the universe.

How to take pictures of the stars

This was my first time taking pictures of a star filled night sky. Here's some tips. I'm no expert, nor have an amazing high quality camera. It was a bit cloudy and the moon wasn't as bright so we unfortunately we couldn't see the Milky Way. But, I think the pictures came out decent for a beginner like me.

1. Tripod

It's absolutely necessary to have a tripod because you're shutter speed is going to be 30 seconds or longer. Unless you can stay still for that long, you need one.

2. High ISO/ Wide Aperture/ Long Shutter Speed

You want to have an ISO over 1000. I used 1600. If you use a really high ISO of like 6400, the pictures can come out with a lot of noise which you don't want. I recommend using the widest aperture possible in your camera. I used 2.8. A long shutter speed is needed. I used a shutter speed of 30 seconds. When it was above 30 seconds, I could see the star trail. Star trails make cool pictures but if you don't want them then keep experimenting which shutter speed works the best. The combination of a high iso, a wide aperture and a long shutter speed ensures maximum light absorbency for detailed pictures of the night.

3. Take lots of pictures

Some pictures will come out bad and that's okay. Take as many as possible!

First of all: Happy 2015 everyone! It's crazy that its 2015...I still feel like it's 2012. Sorry I'm a bit late, I'll definatly be working on my punctuality this year. I wish you all a year filled with love, happiness and adventures.

my goals to remember this year:

1. stop waiting
I feel as though most of the times I simply wait. I wait for the weekend, I wait for summer, I wait to see someone. I realize that I have to focus on enjoying the now, instead of waiting for something to happen. I want to fully live trough every moment. Even if it's small.

For years I have been waiting to move to a new city, find love, and get my life together. These things will happen. I don't know how long it will take but I won't anxiously wait for them anymore. Every day matters.

2. focus on health

Well you know this was coming...I want to be healthier. Last year I accomplished a lot health wise: I went to yoga regularly, workout at the gym often and went on hikes. This year I want to improve. I'll complete my first marathon, use my juicer more often, and maybe even finally be able to do side crow in yoga.

I won't deprive myself on anything of course. If I want an Oreo milkshake, I'll get one. It's nice to to reward our bodies for all it does. Thanks for carrying me legs. Immune system, you deserve this milkshake for protecting me from disease.

3. write

I'm going to splurge and get myself a nice journal to write my thoughts on. I think physically writing is inspiring. You know that feeling when you can't stop writing from a good thought you had and your handwriting suddenly gets really messy? I like it when that happens. Except my handwriting becomes nearly unreadable because it's messy enough.

Writing will help keep my head clear by letting it all out on paper.

I want to read my journal a week later and notice how much I have forgotten: How I felt mornings ago, the story of that party a friend told me, the bright sweater my neighbor wore. It's the little things that are important, but it's the ones that are most easily forgotten.

I heard about some people writing the good things that happen this year, putting in a jar and reading it at the end of the year. I'll attempt to do that too. I think it would be gratifying, especially if I'm feeling down.

4. travel

Traveling has always been my ultimate goal. Travel where? I don't know or frankly really care. Just the motion of traveling is adventure by itself. I love two hour road trips to the mountains with friends and taking the bus to further explore New York. I'm also hoping to go on more spontaneous adventures. Those tend to be the most memorable.

It would be wonderful to go to the pacific northwest this year. I have never been but I'm inspired from all the pictures I have seen. I'm enamored by the nature there. Washington, Oregon, and California are simply breathtaking. I want to hike every mountain there and camp by a lake.

5. let go

These past two years have been hard. I carry the weight from everything that has gone wrong with me. I need to learn to let go of them. That way I can grow from the freedom.

It will be hard but I think that once I fully accept that it's in the past, I won't let it define me anymore.

6. read more
I have many books that I haven't finished simply because I don't have time. I love reading so I want to be take time to actually do it.

note to self: Failure is okay, mistakes happen. That's life and you learn from it. I might not be able to accomplish everything I want this year but I'll be okay.

a new york holiday: guide

New York city during the holidays is an enchanting experience. The city dresses up for this time of the year. It's such a festive atmosphere, surrounded by lights and christmas trees. I feel as though each year that goes by, christmas looses its magic more. I'm not sure if it's because of "growing up" but it worries me for some reason. But visiting Manhattan for this season revived my love for the holidays.

what to do:

1. Visit Rockefeller
This is quite touristy but it's well worth it! The christmas tree here is MASSIVE and beautiful to look at. I saw a proposal in the ice skating rink (She said yes!)

2. Chelsea Market
Chelsea Market is filled with unique stores and specialty shops. It's artfully decorated for the season. There's many vendors here that sell handmade goods. By buying here, you're supporting local artists. Get friends made in New York gifts from here. There's a cool bookstore here to browse trough. There's so much to food to try! It's pretty much a foodie's heaven. From vegan sushi (Beyond Sushi) to mini doughnuts (Doughnuttery). There's something for everyone. It's also the home of Youtube and Food Network kitchens.

3. Bodega Trees
Walking through a forest of christmas trees in the middle of a bustling city is cool. They are everywhere so make sure to check them out. I really just wanted to get one for my invisible nyc apartment.

4. The Creative Little Garden
After my morning coffee, I was walking down East Village and came upon this gem. It's a serene little garden that's open for all. I was amazed at the holiday inspired decorations. It's defiantly worth a look during this time of the year. It's a quaint escape from the busy chaos of nyc.

5. Soho
Great place to do christmas shopping. During this time, most stores have huge sales.

6. Window Displays
Barneys, Macy's, Lord & Taylor and stores in 5th avenue all put on breathtaking holiday displays.

7. Ice Skating
Ice skating in New York is a classic holiday tradition. However, I honestly didn't have time to do this. I really wanted to do go ice skating so I'm going to have to go back. I would love to go to the Wollman Rink in Central Park. It's incredibly picturesque. It's expensive at $18, not including skate rentals. I think it's worth it for once. Also there's free ice skating in Bryant park. If you don't mind waiting for 2 hours in Rockefeller center, ice skating there is something you must do at least once. It will cost you $27 though.

goodbye october

I know we are already halfway through November but I just want to pay homage to my favorite month of the year: October. It always goes by too fast for me. I just love the smell of pumpkin- anything, the crisp mornings of fall, the crunching of leaves, and wearing my favorite sweaters. I didn't grow up in a place where Autumn happened so this season is still magical to me.

And of course: HALLOWEEN. I love Halloween. Every year I tell myself I'm going to plan an awesome costume and have amazing plans but it never happens. And before I know it, it's 3 days before Halloween and I don't have a costume or the slightest idea what to do. But it (somehow) always works out and I end up having a memorable night.

This year I did the Roy Linchstenstein Pop Art. It was the perfect last minute Halloween costume. I used this tutorial and looked at pictures to create the look No one really knew what I was but I received lots of compliments! I also had to convince a guy that my eyebrows weren't actually real, just painted.

on the blue ridge mountains

Last week I travelled with my friends down to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to explore the Blue Ridge Mountains. I have wanted to go for a long time now and it finally happened. We went when the peak of the foliage was ending so the colors of autumn surrounded us. You can actually go to the Shenandoah website and check their weekly fall color report to know what to expect and plan your trip accordingly.

You never know how amazing a mountain is until you can admire it on the top.There are over 500 hiking trails and multiple waterfalls in the park. The Shenandoah is truly grand. We drove through 50 miles of mountains on Skyline Drive with Fleet Foxes in the background. We picnicked in the woods. We hiked down a waterfall where we climbed a rock and admired it from there. I can't wait to go back.

If you ever have a chance to visit Shenandoah National Park, do it! It's breathtaking, especially in fall. All pictures were taken with my Canon Rebel T3i, I have yet to develop my film (3 rolls coming soon).

The first day of October ended with unforeseen fog. I was taking pictures for an assignment for my photography class when my friend and I were surprised by the chilly drift of fog. I've only seen fog really early in the mornings when I used to wait for the bus. So being able to walk trough it for the first time was an eerily amazing experience. I always wanted to feel what it was like. I hope this autumn brings more chilly afternoons filled with fog.

I know I've been neglecting my blog too much. Life is incredibly hectic when you're a full time student and have a job. Often times I have to choose between the three S's: study, sleep, social life. When I do have free time, I prefer to spend it with my friends or catching up with my favorite shows, or both at the same time.

The stress is bad for my health. I eat enough vegetables, drink green juices every day and do yoga often. But stress can be detrimental and slows down your body. I've noticed that I'm getting sick more often. As a matter of fact, I would be in my biology lab right now if it weren't for a terrible case of sore throat. Seriously; I sound like I have been chain smoking since I was 5.

There's no doubt that life is stressful, especially in your 20's. I can't completely eliminate stress but I'm managing to cope with it and find natural ways to reduce it. I'm sorry that my blog suffered from my stress.

As my mind is becoming more peaceful and clear, I'm going to try to update my blog more often. I have a lot of ideas that I just haven't had time to work on. I think I'm going to focus less on fashion and more on lifestyle and photography.

sunflower daze

My friends and I went to explore the sunflower fields yesterday. It took an hour of aimlessly walking but we finally found them blooming. We were the only ones there so we had a wes anderson indie movie moment where we danced and ran through the field at the tune to acoustic songs.

I have never desired spring so much until now. This winter proved to be a long and most brutal one. I'm grateful to live near DC where beautiful cherry blossoms area plentiful and the streets turn pastel. Spring reminds us that our Earth is alive and growing. It reminds me that though they go trough bitter coldness and ruthless storms, flowers still bloom in the end. I think its one of the Earth's many natural lessons.

Travel Diary: New York

For many, spring break is the week of beach, tans and margaritas. For me, I traveled up north to the city of dreams: New York. The weather was anything but Caribbean weather, it was cold, windy and rainy for the three short days I went.

It had been years since I visited New York. Those times I visited were solely for the propose of completing everything in the typical NYC tourist brochure (Lady of Liberty, Ellis Island, Empire State Building and so on.) I remember that my dad would still use a map to get around. Yes...an actual real map. Feels ancient now that it's all in the palm of your hand. It was lovely to just get to explore New York and Brooklyn. We walked a lot and ate a lot. We explored the distinct neighborhoods. With no actual plan in mind, we wandered trough the big city. Enchanted by it while imaging what our lives would be like here.

simple chia pudding recipe

Breakfast is truly my favorite meal of the day. As many college students like myself, my mornings are groggy and rushed. So it's hard to fit in a nutritious meal when I'm rushing out of the door.

This easy vanilla pudding is a life saver. It takes 3 minute put together the night before and you have a healthy and filling breakfast the next morning. Today I added bananas, kiwi, raspberries, raw almonds and coconut flakes. I like to get most of my nutrients in the morning so I can feel energized throughout the whole day.

That's it, breakfast is served, enjoy!

Vanilla Chia Pudding (vegan, raw, gluten-free)

1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or your favorite dairy free milk)

3 tablespoons chia seeds

1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

sweetener to taste (agave, raw honey, liquid stevia)

Combine all ingredients in a glass jar with a lid. Stir together then tighten the lid and shake it. Regrigertate for 6 hours or over night. (I forget to do this sometimes so I''ll just leave it to refrigerate for 30 minutes while I get ready. It still works!) You can transfer it to a bowl if you like. Add fruit, nuts, cocoa nibs, goji berries or anything your heart desires and enjoy!

I love crystal quartz. Not only because they are beautiful, but they also have a great meaning to me.

It all started about two years ago on a late night when I came back from a long shift. These were times where I was very stressed. I would often cry because due to the pressures from work and school. Baking is one of my absolute favorite things to do. It's not only calming, but it feeds my immense sweet tooth. I honestly have hundreds of different cookies recipes I want to try (and I will, one day). I have too many types of flours (coconut, quinoa, buckwheat, whole wheat, flax, almond…) Needless to say, I love baking.

I always thought of macarons as the cute lavish pastries that only the best parisian bakers could make. So, I stayed away from even googling a recipe. In my mind they were these "you can look, you can eat, but you can't make" type of dessert. I had also heard of the trecherous work it took to make them.

Oh, how wrong I was. I do admit they are a labor of love. Nothing you can whip up in 30 minutes, but with a little help from my friends (Beatles reference) it's fun to make. My friend Juan, the macaron connoisseur, pretty much did all the work. I just took pictures, sifted here and there, and ate raspberries. It took about 3 hours in total, and thats because Juan hand whipped the eggs and we stopped every 10 minutes to take pictures. The final result was amazing. Take this as a life lesson: Don't be scared to try something new, especially if it's something you can eat.

We modified this recipe to have a chocolate shell with buttercream and raspberry filling.

The weather has been peculiar lately: Just a week ago, 20 inches of snow covered us. Now, it's sunny and in the 60's. That's Maryland weather for you. The only downside about having unusual perfect weather is that I'm indoors in class or working throughout it all.

This outfit was inspired by the simple golden rays of sunshine that are finally warming up our area. I love you Winter, but I'm ready for a bit of warmth. We all are. I'm already brainstorming ideas for my Spring Break…Miami? San Juan? California? There just has to be beach and I'm a happy girl.

I truly love cardigans. Cardigan weather is the best weather, hands down. The chunkier the cardigan, the better.

Travel Diary: Chicago/Lollapalooza 2013 (Part 1)

I'll always remember last summer as the best one (yet). It was the summer I traveled the most and. It was the summer of music and festivals. It was the summer I finally got to explore. I relish many adventures from it, but my trip to Chicago for Lollapalooza was uniquely monumental.

Let me start by saying this: don't embark on an eighteen hour bus ride. Just don't. I still get nightmares from it. I'm thankful for the hippie experience but my butt still won't forgive for it. I was naive in thinking I could sleep trough it all. When in reality I was stuck waiting for an hour in a ghostly Cleveland station while holding on to all of my luggage at 3 in the morning.

Oh but Chicago…it was worth it after all.

I wish I could have stayed longer. Five days were not nearly enough to explore all of downtown Chicago, especially since three of those days were spent in one of the greatest musical festivals in the world. I mean got to see THE FREAKING CURE. I also nearly died at the Vampire Weekend set. Some of the most memorable acts I saw include: Two Door Cinema Club, Mumford & Sons, New Order, The Killers, Disclosure and The Neighborhood. I'm getting nostalgic for festival season already while writing this…

The first my friends and I did was…you guessed it: eat Chicago's legendery deep dish pizza from Lou Maltani's. *queue angelic background music *

Yes, I would move to Chicago solely for the food…

snow day

I took a break from my blog so I could have time to study for my final exams. Now I'm done with my first semester of college and it's good to be back here. I will be posting much more often! It won't be as hectic as it has been these couple of weeks.
In the middle of this madness our first snow day of the season. Schools and work were closed, roads weren't clean yet and I had more time to study. Except I didn't. I took this precious time to relax. It was an amazing time to go outside and enjoy the beauty of winter.

It was also a time to hangout with friends. I call this snowventures. Oh and drink hot chocolate (lots of it)

Im so excited for the holidays next week! Im planning a little ugly christmas sweater party so I'll let you guys know how that goes.

Halloween is by far one of my favorite days. I enjoy everything about it: the decor, the costumes, the spirit. Sadly I didn't get any candy this year. Instead I celebrated halloween at a Passion Pit concert. It's my 3rd time seeing them this year and they are oh so amazing and fun.

Anyways story time...It's interesting how the world works sometimes. I got lost on the way to the metro and my friend and I were late to the concert. When we got out of the station in DC we saw a congregation of fellow concert goers looking for the shuttle that would take us to the venue. We waited for 20 mins and it never came. Walking wasn't really an option because it was a 45 minute walk in a rather sketchy part of the city. The girl who was next to me suddenly offered us a free ride there. That's right, I got in a cab with strangers. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Not really, they were extremely nice I just felt like I could trust them. I spent the rest of the concert hanging out with them. If my sense of direction wasn't so bad then maybe I would of never met these amazing people. And that's the story how I made friends on Halloween.

My costumes were last minute (as always.) I decided to be Madeline, my favorite childhood character, and I was a skullified Audrey Hepburn. What were you for Halloween?

One of my favorite things to do at this time of year is to take walks. I enjoy the cool air and the crunchy leaves under my boots. These walks help me clear my mind. I have been really busy with schoolwork and my job. So it's easy to forget to take some time for myself.

Exploring Harper's Ferry

One of the good things of living in the DC area is that there is so much to explore. It's incredible that just 10 minutes away from my house I feel that I'm really far away. In other words, it's easy to escape sometimes. I went for a short day trip to Harper's Ferry in Virginia. Sadly, the park was closed (thanks to government shutdown...) but the little quaint town has a lot of history and views to offer by itself.

Although I'm amazed that I can wear shorts in the middle of October, I can't wait to take out my box filled with oversized sweaters and chunky cardigans. I decided to wear a simple outfit.

Downtown Grey

Hello! This weekend I went to downtown DC to have lunch with my family. So here is a quick post of what I wore. It's finally starting to get chilly so I decided to just put a simple sweater over a lace dress and pair it up with black platform shoes.

I think that Fall reminds us on how beautiful nature is...

This time of year makes me happy because I love the crunch of leaves under my leaves, sweater weather, and I can fall back again in my pumpkin obsession (bad pun I know)

The other day I went to the local apple orchard with my best friend Erielle.
