I can’t even begin to describe what a mix of sadness, anger, and disbelief this week has been.

I can tell you that later this morning, I will put on a purple dress, Jamie’s favorite color, and stand up in front of the chapel and speak about my friend. I have been praying I can make it through all of my words.

I can also tell you I miss her dearly.

I shaved my legs for the first time when I was 13 years old.

I remember being embarrassed by how hairy my legs were, so I helped myself to my mother’s disposable razor and a bar of soap, and when I was finished? The bathroom looked like a crime scene due to all the blood.

I managed to slice all the skin off of the backs of my knees as well as my shins, and it hurt so terribly bad and took a month to heal.

I remember this like it was yesterday every single time I shave despite it being *cough* 22 years after the fact.

I wanted the total opposite of this experience for my own daughter and upon her request, I have been shaving her legs for her off and on for the last year or so. I am glad she feels comfortable enough to discuss it with me because I can’t have her picking up her shaving information on the streets.
