Gair is one of the most beautiful dances of Rajasthan. There are several variations to perform this picturesque dance, which is performed by both the men and women of Rajasthan.

Gair Dance of Rajasthan

Gair basically means circle or round. It is performed in a circle and that is how it has got its name.

Dance Attractions

The Bhil folk perform this dance by wearing colorful dresses and carrying swords, arrows and sticks.

The men wear long, pleated tunics that are open out into the full-length skirts. Firstly they move clockwise and then in anti-clockwise direction, with the tempo of striking sticks, so as to create the rhythm at the time of turning.

It is believed by the locals that this dance must have got some significance to war.

Swinging With the Beat

The sticks used in the dance are called Khanda. These sticks are very attractive and catches every eye. The sticks play vital role in the dance. They are very thin and does not carry much of weight and give a flare look.

The striking of the sticks gives the dance a vigorous character & a consistent tempo.

Sometimes, it is performed exclusively by men folk. At that time, a series of half-swirls make up a simpler version of the dance. Depending on the dancer’s ability & proficiency, it is danced with a series of intricate pattern steps.

Famous Dance of Bhil Community of Rajasthan

This dance is famous and performed mostly by all the communities but it is more famous of Bhil Community which is performed at the festival of Holi. Some of its variations are the Dandi Gair found in the Marwar region and Geendad found in the Sehkhawati region of Rajasthan.

Udaipur is a majestic city that presents artifacts of the bygone age by the means of museums. These museums peep into the ancient times of the imperial city.

These museums are made to preserve the priceless objects of the noble kings. They offer a glimpse of the items that used to be the part of the regal lifestyle.

Udaipur Government is making constant efforts to preserve the artifacts of the previous age.

Government Museum in Udaipur

The Government Museum of Udaipur was originally located in Gulab Bagh and was called the Victoria Hall Museum. It has now been shifted to Karan Vilas Mahal within the precincts of the City Palace.

This museum highlights the the richness of the culture and heritage of Rajasthan all the way through its wide-ranging collection of excavated items, inscriptions, sculptures, paintings and handicrafts.

Attractions at the Museum

The inscriptions exhibited at the museum range from those of 2nd B.C to 17th century A.D. The antiquities of the plastic art of Mewar add to the attraction. The sculpture gallery, spread over a big hall, contains some unique and valuable specimens. Inscriptions exhibited at the museum date back to as early as 200 BC.

One of the best possible ways to discover the magical land of Rajasthan is by riding on the back of a camel. Camel Safari is considered one of the most adventurous tourism of Rajasthan.

Camel Safaris - Explore the Sands Dunes of Rajasthan

Carvan Tourism - Travelling Rajasthan Desert on Camel Back

Camel back is in fact one of the most magical way to explore the sand dunes of Rajasthan, especially the unending sand dunes of Jaisalmer and Bikaner.

Route Navigation in the desert is an acquired art, and caravans must be manned by riders who not only know how to study the stars, but also recognize the shifting sands of the terrain.

Caravan Journeys on Camel

Union tourism ministry has decided to announce policy initiatives for promotion of innovative programmes like caravan tourism in its 100-day agenda.

The ministry plans to explore Jaipur-Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur-Mount Abu, Delhi-Sariska-Ranthambore, Delhi-Jaipur-Ajmer-Pushkar as the popular routes for the caravan journeys. The camp safaris are already very popular among tourists. Now they will be even allowed to move at their will.

Better connectivity with the national capital, good road network and being on the list of must-visit destinations for majority of foreigners makes Rajasthan a preferred locale.

Mount Abu situated on an isolated plateau of Aravalli range of hills about 4000 ft.above sea level is one of the prettiest hill stations in India.

Mount Abu To Developed As Eco-Sensitive Zone

Mount Abu Hill Station will be a Eco-sensetive Zone

The Union environment ministry has recently declared Mount Abu an Eco-sensitive zone. This mandates eco-friendly measures for all, including locals and visiting tourists. The Centre on June 25 passed a notification to this effect, under which several restrictions will be imposed in and around Mount Abu to protect the area from ecological degradation.

The eco-sensitive zone covers the entire area of the notified urban area limit, including Mount Abu municipal limits and adjoining forest block areas.

All activities in the forest block areas shall be governed by the provisions of the Rajasthan Forest Act, 1953 and the Forests (Conservation) Act, 1980 (69 of 1980) and all the activities in the Protected Areas (Sanctuary) shall be governed by the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 (53 of 1972).

A zonal master plan for the eco-sensitive zone shall be prepared by the state government within two years from the date of publication of the notification and will be submitted for approval to the ministry of environment and forests.

Effects of Eco-Sensitive Zone

Only non-polluting, non-hazardous cottage industries or agro-based industries shall be permitted in the protected area.

New traffic regulations will also come up and there is a possibility that the entry of vehicles near tourist places will be restricted.

No person shall use plastic carry bags within the notified area

Restoration of denuded areas, conservation of existing water bodies including Nakki Lake, management of the catchment areas, watershed management, groundwater management, soil and moisture conservation

Mount Abu Tourist Attractions

Mount Abu is considered a summer retreat but it also has a stunning array of attractions such as the Dilwara Jain Temples, which dates back to 11th- 13th centuries makes it a popular pilgrimage centre of Rajasthan.

The Sunset Point in Mount Abu is great for catching splendid views of the sunset over the hills. The Achalgarh Fort is one of the best areas to catch views of Mount Abu. The highest point in Mount Abu is Guru Shikhar, which has a temple dedicated to the Holy Trinity.

Mount Abu is also home to the Brahma Kumaris Spiritual University & Museum, which is a popular yoga and meditation center.

Maharaja Sawai Mansingh Museum is located within the City Palace complex and nestled amidst old buildings, temples and the palace quarters. This museum was founded in 1959.

The exhibits consist of the ancestral collections built up by the successive rulers of Jaipur. A small selection of paintings, manuscripts, maps, carpets, textiles, costumes, weapons and armours was displayed in the Pothikhana (library) and the Silehkhana or armoury (both of these in their present form, were established in 1952) of the palace.

Sambhar, India’s largest salt lake, is 190 sq km in extent at full capacity, and lays some 60 km west of Jaipur.

The waters of Sambhar have been used for centuries to make salt. There is, however, another distinctive feature of this extensive saline wetland.

Sambhar Lake - Designated As “Ramsar Site” in 1990

During winter, it receives tens of thousands of winged visitors, some migrating from as far north as Siberia. For such waterfowl as the flamingo, Sambhar lake is one of the few habitats that ensure sustenance every year.

Sambhar lake was designated as a Ramsar site (recognized wetland of international importance) in 1990 to recognize the importance to protect the winter home of these Siberian birds.

Sambhar Lake As An Eco-Tourism Site

Now the government have decided to develop Sambhar Lake as an Eco-Tourism site, which will showcase the salt manufacturing process in the past 50 years. The site will enable people to experience the process through history, right from the British rule to present day.

The 90-km stretch of rail track near the lake, which is famous for the flamingoes, is a very picturesque location. Several Bollywood movies have been shot against its backdrop.

Others Attractions Around Sambhar Lake

The tiny hamlet dotted with historic buildings, the oldest salt museum, Devyani Kund and several renowned temples are some of the places you can visit while you are traveling near Sambhar.

Sambhar is also famous for Nandkeshwar Fair on Dhulandi. During the month of Falgun various events are performed for people to enjoy the mood of holi with BHANG ‘A Natural Alocohol’.

The Naliasar Pond, just 4 km south of Salt Lake City, is crammed with waterfowl-shovelers, common teals, pintails, common pochards, tufted pochards, gadwalls, graylag and bar-headed geese and even busty shelduck that fly swiftly overhead.

The huge City Palace, towering over the Pichola Lake, is the largest palace in Rajasthan. Construction of this palace was started by Maharana Udai Singh, the city’s founder. The main part of the palace is now preserved as a museum with a large and varied collection.

City Palace Museum Also Known as ” Pratap Museum”

City Palace Museum in Udaipur

Located inside the complex of City Palace, this museum is also known as Pratap Museum. The name Pratap Museum was given because the museum holds dear the armor of the brave and gallant Maharana Pratap and also possesses the drums and bugles of the great ruler Rana Sanga.

As you enter the City Palace, the straight way will take you to this museum of artifacts. The entrance gate of the City Museum is known as Ganesh Deori, which means “Door of Lord Ganesha”.

It was established in 1890 and is one of the earliest museums of the Rajasthan.

Priceless Possessions of Detailed Rajasthani Art

The museum has priceless possessions of the former age like antique paintings of Mewar and detailed Rajasthani art. You will find an unusual assortment of coins, sculptures, inscriptions, portraits and wall-paintings here.

It also displays the turban of Khurram, who was popularly known as Emperor ShahJahan. The turban still depicts the friendship that survived between ShahJahan and Maharana Khazan Singh.

Different Sections of The Museum

The museum is divided into several pavilions and halls. Every pavilion has a distinct theme of its own.

Mor Chowk and Manka Mahal

The museum includes the Mor Chowk with its beautiful peacocks in mosaics. The Manka (Ruby) Mahal has glass and porcelain figures while Krishna Vilas has a remarkable collection of miniatures.

Bari Mahal, Zenana Mahal and Moti Mahal

In the Bari Mahal, there is a fine central garden. Zenana Mahal is the main place where you can see arms and armor, paintings and photographs, majestic insignia, processional accouterments and various other objects that reveals the royal legacy and conventions of the Maharanas of Mewar and Sisodia..

The Moti Mahal has beautiful mirror work and the Chini Mahal is covered in ornamental tiles.

The city museum opens between 10-4:30 and is closed on fridays and gazetted holidays.
