Matters of heart can be solved with logic!

In a recent interview to Film Companion, Karan Johar said, "There is logic in ADHM. The lead hero aspires to be a singer and therefore sings." I think the logic ends precisely there. What about love and relationship Karan?

For many, like me, who have grown on film's by Johar and Yash-Adi Chopra, love either results in couple's unision (Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) or sacrifice and move on! (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Kal Ho Naa Ho)

ADHM lingers between one sided love (without apt justification why Anushka's character Alizeh doesn't reciprocate love to the 'Aashiq' Ranbir's- Ayan till the end) and Friendship which actually is so blown out of proportion that it doesn't appear to be Friendship but love. (Remember ek Ladka aur ek Ladki kabhi dost nahi ho saktey if one of them is so close-physically chipku -Hum Tum)

Once Ayan confesses love and is rejected, he moves on - partially to somebody who is shown to understand love but is a divorcee! Alizeh suffocates in her other 'lovely' relationship and disappears without giving hint to even his lover Ranbir, it is Ranbir's one sided love that fumes on her news of absconding, ditto Jab We Met style, to find her, only to re-discover that she still feels Ranbir to be a friend (Matlab- Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Par Tum Nahi Samjhogey)

ADHM is a film of contradictions. Alizeh who keeps on saying "Mohabbat karna humarey bas mein nahi, ussey dur jaana humarey bas main hain" Then why did she go back to the first lover when he has ditched her! Ranbir once says 'Aasan Hai Kya, Aisi Mohabbat Karna Jiskey Badley Mohabbat Na Miley? It is not! Then why hope for reciprocation throughout the film and crib about it! (Btw he does same to Ash-No strings attached, "Rishta wo jo aasani se toot jaaye.") No body taught them to Move on with memories in heart!

Imagine, if in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, while the daughter reunites SRK with Kajol and SRK says 'I am just your friend' or in Kal Ho NA Ho, Preity refuses to marry Saif after SRK has sacrificed his love or in Jab We Met, Kareena would not have accepted Shahid after he rediscovers her-would the films have been successful and loved by masses.

ADHM tries hard to feed us that 'matters of heart are difficult' through forced emotional complications. It can be easily resolved with logic. Move on guys!

Post-script: Ranbir Kapoor, can't keep selecting scripts where he is subjected to confusion, careless and childish behaviour. Time is already up for him. Better actors with wider range like Ranveer Singh, Sushant Singh and Varun Dhawan are catching up. Confused, Childish and careless persona cannot be labelled and sold as versatile acting.

Anushka is natural but her character suffers between selfishness and self awareness. Aishwarya's exit is difficult to digest and I wish Ranbir and she would have settled for each other. However, the director is adamant on making us feel the resilience of heart's "ek tarfa pyaar"- alas through vulnerability of logic and from the mouth of an accomplished 'lover boy' who has 'acquired' other's love in every romantic film he did.

Should I do Bachelors of Mass Media (BMM)? How good are the career prospects?

A lot of students have been calling me off late. Most of them who have given the HSC (12th grade) examination call to seek advice on whether or not to take BMM. Let me put at the on set, I am not a big expert, but having done BMM myself (graduated in 2007) I posses a decent understanding about how the next 3 years for a student opting to do BMM would be and what there career prospects could be.

A student of BMM will have to go through 36 different subjects over the 3 years ranging from, Economics, Political Science, Creative Writing, Broadcast Journalism, Niche Magazine Journalism, Photography, Introduction to PR, Media Studies, Culture Studies, Understanding Cinema etc..

It is in the last year of the course that one has to select a specialisation - Advertising or Journalism. However the dilemma for many who call me (especially from Commerce) is whether the professional course has an immediate job prospect? I answer by saying YES. Many still have doubts. Will they have to struggle and slog a lot to reach the desired post? Guess what YES.

Guaranteed employment a myth?

It is not the case with only BMM or BMS or even BAF etc. It is with every field. Tell me one field which confirms employment? Students will have to start from junior roles and learn the tricks of the trade by being in an area of interest. Where money is riding high, not every individual gets prime responsibility immediately. There are jobs available both in print and electronic media, one has to get in spend years and then apply what they have learned at the courses. I did it it the same way. Learned the hard way. I know my friends who took jobs as PR, copy writers, creative associates, short-film-makers, assistant directors, content writers, digital strategists, communication managers, copy-editors, proof-readers etc. Everything that is taught at the course in 3 years is a window to the big professional set-up. You will have to be a jack of all trades and (unlike the complete proverb) eventually you will end up becoming a master of something. What is important is each step you take and the experiences you gain from it.

Remember, while you are learning these subjects in an academic set-up, add value to your over-all personality by learning, graphic designing, movie-editing, nuances of English language, MS Office, a bit of accounting and commerce. All these soft-skills will somewhere help you in securing a much lucrative job. You never know you may start your own editing or graphic designing studio. So get ready to explore while you take a deep plunge into the world of Mass Media.

A Little Bit of Slope Makes Up for a Lot of Y-Intercept

Here's today's thought for the weekend. A little bit of slope makes up for a lot of Y-intercept.

[Laughter]

So at a mathematical level this is an obvious truism. You know if you have two lines, the red line and the blue line and the red line has a lower Y-intercept but a greater slope then eventually the red line will cross the blue line.

And if the Y-axis is something good, depending on your definition of something good, then I think most people would pick the red trajectory over the blue trajectory (..unless you think you're going to die before you get to the crossing point).

So in a mathematical sense it's kind of obvious. But I didn't really mean in a mathematical sense, I think this is a pretty good guideline for life also. What I mean is that how fast you learn is a lot more important than how much you know to begin with. So in general I say that people emphasize too much how much they know and not how fast they're learning.

That's good news for all of you people because you're in Stanford and that means you learn really, really fast. This is a great advantage for you. Now let me give you some examples. The first example is: you shouldn't be afraid to try new things even if you're completely clueless about the area you're going into. No need to be afraid about that. As long as you learn fast you'll catch up and you'll be fine.

For example I often hear conversations the first week of class where somebody will be bemoaning, "Oh so-and-so knows blah-blah-blah, how am I ever going to catch up to them?" Well, if you're one of the people who knows blah-blah-blah it's bad news for you because honestly everyone is going to catch up really quickly. Before you know it that advantage is going to be gone and if you aren't learning too you're going to be behind.
Another example is that a lot of people get stuck in ruts in their lives. They realize they're in the wrong job for them. I have the wrong job or the wrong spouse or whatever…

[Laughter]

And they're afraid to go off and try something new. Often they're worried, I'm going to really look bad if I go..

[Laughter]

I'm kidding about the spouse. But, seriously people will be afraid to try some new thing because they're worried they'll look bad or will make a lot of rookie mistakes. But, I say, just go do it and focus on learning.

[Laughter]

Let me take the spouse out of the equation for now.

Focus on the job.
Another example is hiring. Before I came back to academia a couple of years ago I was out doing startups. What I noticed is that when people hire they are almost always hire based on experience. They're looking for somebody's resume trying to find the person who has already done the job they want them to do three times over. That's basically hiring based on Y-intercept.

Personally I don't think that's a very good way to hire. The people who are doing the same thing over and over again often get burnt out and typically the reason they're doing the same thing over and over again is they've maxed out. They can't do anything more than that. And, in fact, typically what happens when you level off is you level off slightly above your level of competence. So in fact you're not actually doing the current job all that well.

So what I would always hire on is based on aptitude, not on experience. You know, is this person ready to do the job? They may never have done it before and have no experience in this area, but are they a smart person who can figure things out? Are they a quick learner? And I've found that's a much better way to get really effective people.

So I think this is a really interesting concept you can apply in a lot of different ways. And the key thing here I think is that slow and steady is great. You don't have to do anything heroic. You know the difference in slopes doesn't have to be that great if you just every day think about learning a little bit more and getting a little bit better, lots of small steps, its amazing how quickly you can catch up and become a real expert in the field.

I often ask myself: have I learned one new thing today? Now you guys are younger and, you know, your slope is a little bit higher than mine and so you can learn 2 or 3 or 4 new things a day. But if you just think about your slope and don't worry about where you start out you'll end up some place nice.

Why Creativity Shouldn’t Be Cheap: Written by Yvette Tan

A few days ago, I came across this post on Facebook:

I don’t know where it’s from so I can’t cite sources, but it generated a lot of response when I reposted it. It’s a constant headache among people in the creative industry–graphic artists, writers (especially writers!), photographers, and so on–that they are under-compensated, their work undervalued.

There are two prevailing notions behind this that I know of:

First, non-creatives have the tendency to think that just because anyone can, say, a. write, b. buy a DSLR, and c. take a graphic design class, these are automatically skills that everyone can possess. Professional writers suffer from this misconception the most because in theory, even a first grader can string a sentence together and if a seven year-old can write, then it shouldn’t be a hard skill to master, right?

Wrong.

The second misconception is that creatives work like machines in the manufacturing industry, in the sense that the more work you make them do, the cheaper production gets. Many people think that projects that involve creativity can be bought wholesale, again, like physical products.

Wrong again.

Let me tackle the second point first. Unlike machines, which have moulds and run on continuous power, ensuring (theoretically) quality product all the time, creatives are human beings that use brain power. Contrary to popular belief, thinking is hard work, even if it does not burn much calories. It tires the body and fatigues the mind. Quality of work can diminish without rest. Whether you want to give someone a discount because s/he has given you a lot of work is up to you, but they shouldn’t be able to use ‘buying wholesale’ as an excuse.

Now the first point. Yes, a seven year-old can fill a notebook with words. And yes, that same seven-year old can take nice photos (but hopefully not with a DSLR, unless you are very, very wealthy). But what people don’t realise is that what they’re buying isn’t just someone who will do a job that they could do themselves, if only they had the time. What they are buying, particularly when they hire a professional, is the time, effort, and experience that person put into honing his or her craft.

What you are buying are words that every client, every investor, loyal or potential, will see, so it is in your best interest to make sure that those words are damn good.

Obviously, this post comes from a personal disappointment. As a young writer, I kept coming across these two arguments, and I didn’t know how to respond to them. I don’t know where I read it, but now I know how to explain why we charge what we charge:

What we charge isn’t really high because when you divide the amount spent on art/ copy by the number of people you want to impress (clients, investors, employees, your mother) and the profit/ morale you will generate from it, then you will realise that what you are paying isn’t expensive at all.

If you ask me, most creatives still aren’t being paid enough for their work. I’m still hoping that this changes someday.

Gour Hari Dastaan impresses parliamentarians

It takes patience and perseverance of unimaginable levels to come even somewhat close to what Gour Hari Das has accomplished. For the uninitiated, he fought a silent war for 32 long years against his own government to prove his patriotic association towards the nation. Finally, after three full decades, the government gave him a certificate recognising his work as a freedom fighter.

As you might be aware, Ananth Mahadevan's film GOUR HARI DASTAAN, inspired by his life is all set to release this Friday. Ask the freedom fighter how important is the film for him and he immediately says, "It's not important for me, it's important for the next generation. I hope whatever I have done is a source of inspiration for the new generation to do something for others and for society."

He goes on to add, "The difference between the youth of today and pre-independence is that in those days when we planned to sabotage or attack the British, our cause was justified because we were fighting for the country. Today the youth lack aim and motive. They merely blow up trains, kill innocent people and fall prey to misleading religious fanaticism. Everything is wrongly politicised. The youth of today need to learn from the youth of our time."

According to Das, Vinay has done a superlative job in the film. "Vinay is fantastic in the film. How good he is can't be expressed in words. I have quite a few clippings and photos of him from the film. Looking at them, I sometimes can't believe that he's not me. He put in a lot of efforts to look similar to me," says Das on a concluding note.

Impresses parliamentarians

A full house of members of parliament including ex commissioner of police Satyapal Singh and other prominent names loudly applauded and hailed GOUR
HARI DASTAAN-THE FREEDOM FILE in Delhi. Das was mobbed and feted by them and they even decided to discuss the film in parliament and the issues it
raised. Praises from "genial" to "the most important film of our time" were showered on the film.

Despite parliament in session, the MPs made it a point to attend the screening and watched spellbound reacting at all the right places where the acidic humour made them laugh. The dialogue and Vinay Pathak's spellbinding performance came in for special praise.

GOUR HARI DASTAAN also stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ranvir Shorey and Tannishtha Chatterjee in pivotal roles.

Amitabh Bachchan praises Manaatlya Unhat

It’s not very often that Amitabh Bachchan praises regional cinema but he seemed to be very impressed by the trailer of Marathi film, MANAATLYA UNHAT, which releases this Friday.

The actor wrote on a micro-blogging site, “T 1928 - https://youtu.be/HrdHaS5rKEI .... Marathi film trailer, director brother Usha Jadhav, of 'Bhootnath Returns' .. सर्व शुभेच्छा !!”

Even Nawazuddin Siddiqui was all praise for the film. Said the actor, “MANAATLYA UNHAT is a very good film. Based on a true story, it’s directly superbly by Pandurang Jadhav. Please do watch it.”

Anil Kapoor also applauded the film saying, “From what I have seen of the film, I can say that this is a stupendous work and effort. The film has been made with passion. I wish the entire unit all the very best. May this film become a huge success.”

CHAK DE! actress Seema Azmi goes bold with Marathi film CHITRAFIT

Seema Azmi, best remembered as the player from Jharkhand in Shah Rukh Khan starrer CHAK DE! INDIA is going to be next seen in the first ever bold Marathi drama movie CHITRAFIT 3.0 MEGAPIXEL, directed by Diwakar Ghodake.

Seema’s role in the movie is something new for her, as she was never seen portraying a bold character before. Seema too was little apprehensive at first. She said, "Initially, bold scenes weren’t part of the film. The makers told me that they will portray them through shadows and not show it explicitly. And even I was a bit scared as I had never done something like this before. I don’t mind doing if it’s the requirement of the script, but I should be comfortable. I just don’t want to do because other people are doing it and join the bandwagon. Then, Diwakar persuaded me as it was essential for the film. We gave many shots and finally canned it. Apart from climbing mountains in the film, doing bold scenes was challenging for me."

When probed to her how she bagged this film, Seema said, "I got a call from Diwakar. He was looking for a girl who is dusky and looks slightly elder than the guy in the film. He saw my profile on a social networking site and sent me the script. When I read it, I was immediately game for it. I quite liked the concept of the film and I think it needs to be told in today’s date. So, I agreed to meet him and that’s how we connected."

Praising his lead actress Seema Azmi, Divakar said, "When Seema was told about this character, she liked it and thought of trying it. She has a good quality that she understands the nature and seriousness of her characters well. Coming from National School of Drama, that quality is imbibed in her. And I wanted someone who understands the seriousness of it. Some actresses didn’t understand the subject and what the story is all about.

He added, "She used to walk at a stretch for three hours while shooting. And next would be again ready for the shoot. Seema did trekking very well in every location, so that was her plus point. She had the attitude of ‘I’ll do, I don’t have any issue.’ While other girls plainly refused it. They had excuses like 'Vanity van is not there, or other facilities are not there’. But it was not so in Seema’s case."

When asked if it was tough to cast Seema because of her non-marathi background, Divakar responded, "Actually I don’t believe in Marathi or Hindi casting. I just believe that the person should be able to understand the character well. Many Marathi girls were interviewed but Seema had a lot of balance for this character. Moreover, she was not afraid of this movie being made in Marathi. She was rather happy that she was about to do this role. Her immediate response was, 'I have to do this, no matter how much I have to walk, or travel to interiors of jungle, I will do it’. She was completely a hassle free actress."

Decoding Rajesh Rajgor-The life!

Hey everybody! It's a great feeling to come back here and start writing. It has been a while that I have written. In fact a lot has been happening that I couldn't post. Blogging was the last thing on my mind when I was busy preparing for the show Spiral Bound. It was seriously an experience of a life time! Your friends (and others, of course) paying for you! To see what you do is an amazing feeling! I, however, couldn't take it much further and am still looking for assignments!

Meanwhile, I lost two of my close family members. My maternal grandfather Trikamji Nakar and my uncle Mansukhlal Rajgor. It was a huge loss for the entire family. R.I.P both the great souls.

It is in the losses and hard time that we realize the real meaning of life! We realize the importance of relationship and how indebted we feel at their absence. But as life moves on, individuals have to move on.

I moved on too! After months of searching for work (both acting and professional assignments) I bagged the job as a Communication Executive at Videocon D2h. Yes, I am working full time and with this development came another. I shed my single status! Yes, I am now engaged to Abhisha Vyas and enjoying this new 'stage' in my life. 'kehtey hain zindagi mein theraav behad zaroori hoti hai, shayad 'abhi' mere jeevan mein wahi theraav aaye'

Chalo, keep me posted, till I comeback to write something interesting! 'Abhi ke liye Raj ka Good bye!'

Great Business Implication of Innovation!

We, as human beings, always crave for something substantial. We don’t want to settle for mediocrity. Things start to look odd and monotonous if we don’t innovate or accept new style of doing the same things. Same is the case with most business.

Business, actually, have to keep on challenging themselves and keep moving forward, from the last point they achieved. Innovation is thus, the only solution. A new way to do business or a simple approach can work wonders when you are terribly pondering over something, or stuck at a particular not-so-happening thing.

We have so many examples of businesses that changed their approach for target customers, which in turn changed the perception of the people. Take for Instance, Vodafone. It was all going good for them when they had an ad featuring a child and a pug (dog). The message was good, ‘Vodafone reaches everywhere’.

Still, halfway they lost it. When other companies like airtel, Docomo and even Idea, were innovating and capturing audience’s interest, Vodafone, continued with the same theme. It was only when they switched to Zoo-zoo concept they grabbed some eye-balls and their loyal customers back.

Thus, thriving hard and constantly asking yourself ‘how can I improve my services/working style? How can I better my outputs? Will help you get the most needed answer for change. Small steps taken towards goals, towards betterment, will definitely yield in to success.

While some one may argue, why change when we are at top and doing well? The answer is, ‘you need to innovate and perhaps keep changing, so that you continue to be on top’. Stability only comes to stable things and while we are moving, we have the opportunity to innovate.

Let me list 3 positives and 3 negatives of not innovating.

Negatives of Not Innovating:

1) Same Old approach: Same old approach may definitely have done good to you in the past, but it is not necessary that it would also do good in the future. Everything around us is changing. The people, the way we do businesses, so you have to be smart and innovative.

2) Taking Things Easy: It is human behavior, to settle down with something that you are convenient with, but this is where we start taking things for granted. Businesses can’t afford to lose any of their clients or any project. They have to be on their toe to seal every opportunity that comes their way. Taking things granted means, taking even customers for granted, something not acceptable in this competitive business environment.

3) Inconsistency: When doing business, it is very important that we have an eye on growth and one thing that deters growth is our inconsistency. Inconsistency is the by-product of neglecting important things, unreceptive to taking risks. Thus, taking calculated risk and venturing in to new ideas will mark a journey towards growth.

Positives of Innovation:

1) Novelty: Novelty always attracts customers. If you are different and promising to do things differently you are sure to get new clients. Obviously, the core of producing quality while inventing a new strategy is very important.

2) Driving Force: Innovation surely drives you. It is the passion of doing things in a new a way that keeps your interest intact. This is a great driving force. Even the customers that approach you will feel good because you are feeling good for them and the business.

3) Profit: When inconsistency and lack of innovation deters your growth, certainly innovating the way you work will help you be on your toes and be alert of the changes around you. It is bound to lead you to profit and thus help you grow as a business entity.

Innovation thus has powerful implications on the way you work and the way you lead your business. Innovation is therefore, mandatory!

Actors who missed on the 'Super stardom'

Everybody strives for that one in a billion identity, that distinctive image. In a country of billion people, reaching that position, when the stakes are high, obviously is difficult. But once you attain that stage, holding to that special position is even more difficult. I feel heart broken seeing such people who got all the love, all the fanfare and all the stardom in their career, but on the way lost their charm, their grip. Let's have a look at those few lucky one's in the Hindi Film Industry- who missed it all halfway- while the race is still on!

5. Suniel Shetty: Suniel Shetty debuted with Balwan in 1992 and tasted moderate success. His first big success came in with Waqt Hamara Hai and Mohra. Both, However, featuring Akshay Kumar with him. Akshay for his better dancing skills and a mischievous look gained all the spot light and thus Shetty, who had an equal acting ability, remained under his shadow.

The only time he could have capitalized and rose to fame was, when he gave 3 back to back hits in Dilwale, Gopi Kishan and Bhai. He should have taken some risk with more solo films trying different genres. Instead he gave amazing performances in some supporting roles like Border, Hera Pheri, Refugee, Dhadkan Main Hoon Na, to name a few but could never come out of it.

4. Jackie Shroff: He debuted in Heera Panna in a villanious role and then did Swami Dada with Dev Anand. But his time turned, when he was casted by Subhas Ghai in 1983's Hero, which went on to become Super Hit. He tasted success with yet another film Andar Bahar with Anil Kapoor (that was beginning of his association with Anil) He gave several hits with Anil Kapoor in the coming years from Karma, Ram Lakhan, Parinda, Kaala Baazar to 1942 - A love story. He also gave powerful performances in 100 days, Saudagar, King Uncle, Rangeela

But somehow, when Anil Kapoor was still going strong and emerged as strong solo hero in years that followed, Jackie started accepting roles as supporting actors. Though he was brilliant in Khalnayak, Rangeela, Saudagar, Agni Shaksi, Devdas, he never remained the actor most talked. Also because, the country had accepted and was moving towards more romantic and chocolate type heroes like SRK, Aamir and Salman. Thus he got sidelined and was considered actor of an older generation. He grew as an actor with performances in Mission Kashmir, Devdas, Yaadein, but never was able to experience that star status that Khan trio and even Hrithik and Akshay are experiencing.

3. Akshay Khanna: His debut film flopped. However, his performance in J.P. Dutta's Border was appreciated. The turning point, and also from where he should have picked as a bankable actor, came in 1999. He gave stunning performance in Taal and moderately successful Aa Ab Laut Chalen.

He then took a break and then was seen in 2001 in Farhan Akhtar's cult movie Dil Chahta Hai. But by then, Hrithik mania had gripped the nation and a new fit-fine, heartthrob, dude image of Hindi film hero had become strong and thus Akshaye could never fit in.

However, the only good this film did to him was establish him as strong supportive actor. We saw some really strong performances of his in films like, Humraaz, Hulchul, Hungama, Gandhi My father and Aakrosh. Alas! He too went the Jackie way.

2. Bobby Deol: According to me he is the most veteran star son's to debuted just close to new millennium. His debut movie gained him the Filmfare best debut new comer award for Barsaat in 1995. He could have enjoyed the stardom today, if he would have capitalized on the early success. He did well after his debut, in films like, Gupt, Soldier, Kareeb, Badal and Bichoo. Bearing Kareeb all established him as action hero. A hero who was vulnerable yet powerful.

But, post this, selection of some awful films let to his down fall, from where he could never get back. Series of flops like Dillagi, Hum toh Mohabbat Karega, Aashiq, Chor Machaye Shor, Kismat etc. took him no where! Thus an almost end to what could have been a successful career. He came back in Humraaz and now in Yamla Pagla Deewana, but has missed on the much deserved stardom!

1. Govinda: I feel really sad listing Govinda here. He is one actor that has been not honored his due by the industry. He has had a long inning. His first film was Ilzaam in 1986. Although the movie was a flop, it had a hit song 'Street Dancer'. He later featured in several such films from Love 86, Zulm Ki Hukumatt (an Indian remake of the Godfather) and was more than once paired with Neelam in Hit films like Hatya, Khudgarz, Jeetey Hain Shaan Se, Hum, and even in actions films like Martey Dum Tak, Jung Baaz.

He paired for the first time with David Dhawan in Taaqatwar and went on to give Superhit films with him like Coolie No.1 Hero No. 1, Aankhen, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Shola Aur Shabnam, Saajan Chale Saural, Haseena Maan Jaayegi and many more.

As a result, he widely gained popularity as the king of comedy and dance and as a Hero who could do anything. He had his unique style and approach to every scene that he delievered.

But as the 2000 year approached, his style of humour, his style of cinema began to lose hold in the industry. He failed to achieve the transition that he successfuly did from the late 80's to 90's. He had the opportunity to try that new 'something' post his awful political career. But, alas he chose the same rom-com genre!

Once a visual treat, once a flawless actor was trapped in the same old formula and style. Today, he's trying to successfully comeback in films like Partner, Raavan, but the charm, the undisputed charisma that he had in 90's ( that gave even the Khan power a tough time) is missing!

Love is an art, Art glorifies Love!

Art has always been a fascination for me. Be it painting, music, drama or any attractive vibrant creation. I get pulled into it. Thus writing for Rajesh Nakar- Visual Merchandiser, Interior Designer, Artist and a personal inspiration, also for whom I earlier wrote Aberrant is indeed a pleasure.

Currently in Ghana, West Africa, and lending his services to Melcom, a No. 1 departmental store having more than 15000 products under one roof, Rajesh has come up with yet another pleasing window display for Melcom's Kaneshie branch (Melcom plus) that has instantly evoked a brand image for the company. Brand image is always unique and one that sets them apart from competitors and ignites a positive vibes among the customers.

‘Pamper Your Valentine’, thus seem to be clearly fitting the bill. With the able inputs from Marketing head, Raja and his own creative flow, this concept seems apt for the upcoming Valentine’s Day! When I asked him online, how did he conceptualize the whole thing? How did he manage to express it so easily and in a simple, non-congested way? He said,
“The answer is ‘simplicity’ itself”. I always use one formula for any creation of mine, and that is KISS formula.”KEEP IT SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT”. He continued, “We as humans are always attracted towards beauty. Add simplicity and soothing colours to it & you have your job done. Also, having no restrictions and a clear thought from the department, led me work beautifully”.
As we can see, he clearly has worked wonders. Red, according to me, conjures well on different emotions like love, poetry, beauty and passion. This display has no other colour as magnificent as Red. Thus, the concept of only using red to express love with poetic affection, ‘Pamper Your Valentine’ for your dear girlfriend/wife is simply impressive.
The line ‘Pamper Your Valentine’ against red background convey it best - the message of "I love you"- and for me speaks loud of the care and passionate love that we have for loved ones. Having seen this, I strongly believe that every body’s search for an ultimate surprise this coming season of love should end at this beautiful store. Or May I say the quest for the best, and most enchanting gift begin from this glorifying art work. Love, definitely is an art and art glorifies love!

I left my job in August 2010. Since, then I have changed! YES. I have a confession to make. I was little more lazy then. I was little less organised compared to what I am today. (Yes, I have my schedule and a diary today that I don't simply carry, but also make entries into it, or simply save it as a note in my draft SMS messages)

I almost have a planned day. Sure, things go off sometimes, and there are uncertain times, but mostly I know what I am going to do. Most of the times either I am reading (Yes, I have been reading a lot, I have read more books in the last 6 months than I had ever read in the last 23 years) or I am thinking (not day dreaming) about my next move. (I think a lot, may be that's were all the protein I consume goes)

All these changes didn't 'just' happen. I made conscious effort a deliberate decision to change for the better. I knew this change is very simple and effective. Though I mentioned a few bad elements in me above, that I am changing, I was never unreceptive to things that were generally good. The reason I made mistakes and didn't realize it was only because of the fact that I was just not 'aware' in and out of it! Even then, I had this 'respect the speaker' manners that I had learned early in my life and most of the times accepted the good points, the most suitable thing, for a given situation.

Thus, when I meet people who are just so locked in their own zone, not willing to 'accept' other's view point, not willing to listen and then react, not open to new ideas and have their 'narrowed' view point on every thing you say (they have reasons or justification even to your most valid and generally accepted point) I feel sad and pity for their ignorance and such awful state.

"Agyani manyusha aur pathar dono saman hain! Chahey jitna sar phodlo dono apney gunon ko nahi chodtey!"

All I am trying to say in this post is, stick to your point or opinion when you know it is generally acceptable and a right behavior or a manner, but never averse to something that is going to make a long lasting impact on you and the thing which is right! Never 'just' oppose something because you are unaware of it and have never experienced. You never know, the point or view you are so dearly holding to yourself is actually a misconception or just your unselfconsciousness!

Micro to Macro- Back in Style!

The last time I wrote, in May, was about the Khoi Hui Zindagi, about the turmoil in my heart. Which way to chose, how to follow my heart, about the consequences of the path and all that a person running behind dreams; experiences with the relationships he shares with the people around.

There were thoughts, that I could have posted, but rather I chose to post it on micro blogging site from time to time. The larger, macro thoughts, I better kept reserved to my blog here. But of what little I posted on the sites like www.ionisee.com, www.facebook.com kept me alive and connected with the so called socially virtual world.

Today, when I am at the brink of very happening, fascinating acting career that coincides with the release of the much loved film 'the social network', that could shape the real world (me in terms of where I go from my first performance, and more real films like this may come) this seemed to me as an apt time to write on this most loved space of mine.

The Social Network, directed by David Fincher and starring Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg founder of widely popular facebook.com is an amazing and 'most' real film in these times. The movie traces the journey of Mark, a Harvard student, who invented facebook.com with fellow students.

Based on the non-fiction book 'The Accidental Billionaire' which comprises the narration given by Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of facebook.com and his lawsuit against his friend and founder Mark, the film holds you from the scene one and establishes Mark as a very smart, ambitious person who went social about his girlfriend ditching him and thus tries hard to seek social acceptance.

Film cuts sleekly between the lawsuit and the flashback story, leaving on you to decide, whether whatever Mark does is right or wrong. Although you know what's the end of the film gonna be, your anticipation just builds with every razor sharp defense that Mark puts forward. Surely, this one is the movie of the year!

Spiral Bound-The play in which I got to recently act, has been a beautiful experience. With every line and with every word uttered, I just learned and enjoyed my most passionate craft - acting! The play, addresses the eternal question of identity, of self and society yet again, through a group of characters that lose and gain themselves in different stage of reality. I am glad that I happened to be a part of this and now the joy has just got even bigger as, we have been shortlisted to perform!

The journey, the pehla padav to my most desired path is set and I know there is miles to go before I sleep. But this feeling of joy and the experience and learning that I am carrying will help me to sustain in the difficult things to come in this beautiful fascinating journey.

Well Done Shyam Benegal

Well Done Abba tells the story of Armaan Ali (Boman Irani), a Muslim driver working in Mumbai, who takes a one month leave from his employer to find a groom for his daughter Muskaan (Minissha Lamba), who lives in a village near Hyderabad, India. Armaan does not turn up for three months, and his employer makes the difficult decision to sack him, but he asks his boss to listen to why he could not come. Getting soft, his employer allows him to drive to Pune where he has a meeting. Armaan starts the story from here.

In Armaan's village, many problems include a rising drought situation and financial difficulties due to the antics of his twin brother, who has a bad reputation for debt addiction and theft. In the opening, a man named Arif demands 500 rupees from Armaan. Eventually, Muskaan pays the debt to Arif and Armaan's brother is arrested, later on released. To solve the drought problem, he goes to a government office to build a well, with a friend. There, he goes through stages such as explaining what he wants and even having his photo taken. Muskaan, on the other hand falls in love with Arif, of which Armaan does not approve at first but later is pleased with.

Armaan does not receive the well he wanted and sits in despair. He and Muskaan try to tell the police inspector about the well that was 'stolen', but the inspector finds the story rather silly and is even stubborn enough to not listen to what they have to say. Disturbed, Armaan and Muskaan launch a protest with several villagers against the police inspector, later on to the justice minister, where the minister punishes the inspector for his slack behaviour. The inspector, realising his mistakes and behaviour, then starts to approach the people in a more orthodox way. The justice minister then allows the government people to build the well for the villagers and punishes them all for not doing what they are supposed to do.

With the drought problem solved, Armaan decides that Muskaan should marry an Arab Sheikh Muskaan does not accept her father's offer and even has an argument about this. The issue is even more heated when she receives a letter from her friend, Sakina, which involved her getting beat up by her sheikh husband and getting kicked out, shocking Armaan and Sakina's mother. Disturbed, Armaan then decides that Muskaan should marry Arif, much to her delight. With the two of Armaan's problems solved, he ends his story at an awards ceremony, which in his perspective was a 'big drama', as the stage literally collapsed, delighting people. With his employer convinced, he then allows Armaan to work for him again.

Anupama Chopra of NDTV writes "The end result is that Well Done Abba is heart-felt and intermittently funny", while Nikhat Khazmi of the Times of Indiawrites "The film is a sheer delight, with the events unfolding in a breezy, comic vein which keeps the ribs relentlessly tickling". Noyon Jyoti Parasara of AOL.in gave it 3 out of 5 and pointed out, "Leaving aside the last 15 minutes which were not required at all, this film actually entertains." Vinayak Chakravorty of Mail Today gave it three stars.

Well Done Abba is a 2010 political satire Hindi film directed by Shyam Benegal, starring Boman Irani, Minissha Lamba and Sameer Dattani in pivotal roles. It is the remake of the 2007 Marathi film, Jau Tithe Khau. It was based on three short stories: Narsaiyyan Ki Bavdi by Jeelani Bano, Phulwa Ka Pul by Sanjeev and Still Waters by Jayant Kripalani. The screenplay was written by Jayant Kripalani and Ashok Mishra, who also wrote the dialogues. It won the 2009 National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues.

Well Done Abba's music is by Shantanu Moitra and the main promotional song "Jab Bhi Muh Kholta" was composed by Vishal Khurana. The lyrics are penned by Ashok Mishra, Swanand Kirkire and Ila Arun.

IPL begins tonight!

Guys, finally the most unpredictable format of cricket is back in its highly successful glamorous 'Avataar'- IPL.

First edition saw the underdogs Rajasthan Royals lift the cup, Second year we saw the 1st year's bottom ranked team, Decccan Chargers, top the chart. Who will win this year???

The teams that look strong on paper are Mumbai Indians: After double hundred against the Proteas in one day, we just have to expect more from the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar- may be six sixes or a quick 100 is not too much too ask seeing his current form. His opening partner in the team is no less, Sanath Jaysuriya on a given day can be brutal. So are likes of Zaheer Khan, Bhajji, Malinga and JP Dumminy.

Delhi Dare Devils, Chennai Super King and Kings11 Punjab also carry a very very strong team and literally very strong contenders for the trophy since last two editions.

KKR and Rajsthan Royals have good side too, but their success (and failure) totally depends on how their captains lead them in the game.

Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore have their pride at stake. Both teams will have to prove that their journey last year in the game was not mere case of luck.

So this years IPL also offers lots of thrill, adrenaline rush, gossips and the above all cricketainment!

Cultural revolution is definitely going to happen!

Eight years ago we saw a movie Dil Chahta Hai which bought us an insight of new age cinema. A change in the way humour, relationships and emotions were dealt. Aamir Khan changed the way a hero's traits were percieved by his sheer ease to carry out challenging roles. He showed it yet again in 2005 with Rang De Basanti, the power to think different and then do what your heart says with full love and passion. We were mesmerized by his antics and before we can think he thought ahead of his time with yet another mind blowing concept in Taare Zameen Par!

During this period came another revolutinary man who dared to expose the life of medical students with his own style. Two years later came another film of Hrishikesh Mukherjee genre that spread the happy-go lucky air in the country in Lage Raho Munnabhai.

In 2009 comes 3 Idiots, a film that will make you think that please think the way you think! It sublty explains you the fact that, the answer to the world's most toughest problem lies in some simple question, no matter how tough is the problem. The combination of Raju Hirani and Aamir Khan has just not created a super-hit film, that will be marked as one of the biggests hits in the history of Indian film industry, but has also created a cultural revolution that will grab Indians and the country who dreams to be super power by 2020.

The film, through the characters of Sharman and Madhvan, who have certain clarity about the careers to be perceived but are submerged with pressure to be successful and be number one, and a 'everything is possible', Rancho Khan, who is more interested in following his heart, getting answers to what his innocent simple but rational brain asks, gifts India and millions of young Indians, a logical way of approaching life but with smile, love and fun rather than sticking to irrelevant orthodox, meaningless systems that yield nothing but generations of followers than creative thinkers!

I, a recently turned Idiot, grab this opportunity to salute the two Idiots mentioned above (Aamir and Raju Hirani) for their phenomenal contribution to Indian cinema and enlightening millions of Indians by not merely making a film, but spreading awareness in the process that will definitely help the country and it's people make their mark!

The way ahead...

Hello, everybody. I am back with a long break from blogging and writing my current thoughts. The months after August were really tight and kept me busy and submerged into work till head. Little did I breath was only in my dreams (and when I day dreamed, visualizing my goals).

The month of September came with traveling to beautiful places like Aurnagabad and Raipur-Chattisgarh. The English demo-training programme conducted for Hotel Management Students in the Village just went superb. The students were highly excited and received us with warmth. Staying in hotels with colleagues was fun too! Our tour went beyond just training, when we visited local temples of Shiva and Hanuman, in a much awaited drizzle.

A week later, I was flying for the first time to Raipur to conduct another training program for Chattisgarh government teachers. This experience was just amazing. I had my bad share of initial set backs, when we saw an unexpected response from the regional trainers; but thanks to my supportive scintillating colleague, things were pretty soon in our control. My charm then just grew over the 3 days of training, and was able to deliver up to my potentials.

One side where I am focusing my energy and efforts towards my work, on the other side, my passion for the cine world is just increasing as I am growing. It's becoming more and more intense and I am already feeling a sense of achievement. I am busy setting my steps further to enhance my talent and guide me through the way ahead. The coming months I am ready to be more focused and energetic as these are going to be the most crucial days of this year and my life ahead!

Love the Love Coz Love Is Lovable!

I went to see this movie feeling that I would definitely not like it as this would be just another stretched love story that would end stereotype! It ended though in the similar fashion as I expected, but I liked the journey till they end it.

The film is not different, and many would not like it just because of the same fact, but the middle phase builds the film. It is so stylish in it's presentation that you can just keep it on the same lines of DCH and Rock on! The presentation is just superb! It is straight to the point. It is straight to the heart, it is straight from the heart!

The two stories running parallel to each other, Aaj and Kal, imbibe love so well that you cant resist, but love the love! The music is soothing too!

Saif Ali Khan is the hero here.... He lifts the film single handed. What a sardar he has been! Go watch this film......and you would definitely love it!
