Here are some tips towards Green Revolution.

There is a cute small round press button at the bottom right corner of almost all monitors: Please make use of this (Power button)

Stop pri nting out novels, magazine and other e-books. This is a classic example of paper wastage.

If you have forgotten to give double-side prints, make sure you make use of the empty sides as scribbling pads or for your kids’ imposition.

Take two minutes from your busy schedule before hurrying back home to shut down the computer.

All of us are big time Googlers. Have you heard of the Blackle search engine? Blackle (Google powered) is a search engine designed all in Rich Black so that your system consumes less power. So change your homepage.

Plastic bags these days indeed come in bright and flamboyant colours and tempt us to take them home with us. But the saying, “Appearances are deceptive” holds true for these plastic things too. Next time, hold back or go prepared to counter temptation with a cloth bag.

Roses, Jasmine, Hibiscus and Peas; All these saplings cost hardly between Rs 10 – 20 each. Can’t we afford to plant these in and around our houses? Also, more importantly, caring and maintain them as they grow?

Try to segregate the different kinds of waste into Bio-Degradable (Fruit or vegetable waste) , Recyclable (waste Paper, paper products) and Electronics (Floppy disks, CD-ROMS ). Once you have segregated your thrash, look for specialized trash cans to throw them away.

Try to minimize the use of horns. Honking has drastically increased and this adds to the noise pollution and does not pro vid e a conducive environment to live in.

Use rechargeable batteries though it’s an expensive product, it’s one-time purchase. Recharge when required. (Same applies to cell-phones, MP3s, iPods and Laptops)

The best pens to use would be ink ones. Though if you have to use a ball point pen, buy refills instead of buying new pens. Pencils are much better for rough use! (That’s why we used it at school!!!)

Remember to close water taps before preening in front of the mirror. Of course you are beautiful, but Water is a precious resource!

Let’s not just wake up and walk out of finished meetings and conferences with a sigh of relief, let us remember to turn off the lights and projectors too.

Take few minutes to learn about topics like ‘Global Warming’ , ‘Air / Noise /L and / Water Pollution ‘ etc apart from constant surfing of News, Latest Gadgets, Movies and Music.

It’s been said, we’re going to run out of water before we run out of oil.
Shorten a 10 minute shower to 5 minutes and save at least 25 gallons of water.
Don’t run the water while you brush your teeth.
Find a leaky faucet around the house, so it can get fixed.

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon,
everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred – Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries – Most never happen.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less

T’ai Chi [Supreme Ultimate] comes from Wu Chi [Formless Void]
and is the mother of yin and yang.
In motion T’ai Chi separates;
in stillness yin and yang fuse and return to Wu Chi.

It is not excessive or deficient;
it follows a bending, adheres to an extension.

When the opponent is hard and I am soft,
it is called tsou [yielding].

When I follow the opponent and he becomes backed up,
it is called nian [sticking].

If the opponent’s movement is quick,
then quickly respond;
if his movement is slow,
then follow slowly.

Although there are innumerable variations,
the principles that pervades them remain the same.

From familiarity with the correct touch,
one gradually comprehends chin [intrinsic strength];
from the comprehension of chin one can reach wisdom.

Without long practice
one cannot suddenly understand T’ai Chi.

Effortlessly the chin reaches the headtop.

Let the ch’i [vital life energy] sink to the tan-t’ien [field of elixir].

Don’t lean in any direction;
suddenly appear,
suddenly disappear.

Empty the left wherever a pressure appears,
and similarly the right.

If the opponent raises up, I seem taller;
if he sinks down, then I seem lower;
advancing, he finds the distance seems incredibly long;
retreating, the distance seems exasperatingly short.

A feather cannot be placed,
and a fly cannot alight
on any part of the body.

The opponent does not know me;
I alone know him.

To become a peerless boxer results from this.

There are many boxing arts.

Although they use different forms,
for the most part they don’t go beyond
the strong dominating the weak,
and the slow resigning to the swift.

The strong defeating the weak
and the slow hands ceding to the swift hands
are all the results of natural abilities
and not of well-trained techniques.

From the sentence “A force of four ounces deflects a thousand pounds”
we know that the technique is not accomplished with strength.

The spectacle of an old person defeating a group of young people,
how can it be due to swiftness?

Stand like a perfectly balanced scale and
move like a turning wheel.

Sinking to one side allows movement to flow;
being double-weighted is sluggish.

Anyone who has spent years of practice and still cannot neutralize,
and is always controlled by his opponent,
has not apprehended the fault of double-weightedness.

To avoid this fault one must distinguish yin from yang.

To adhere means to yield.
To yield means to adhere.

Within yin there is yang.
Within yang there is yin.

Yin and yang mutually aid and change each other.

Understanding this you can say you understand chin.
After you understand chin,
the more you practice,
the more skill.

Silently treasure knowledge and turn it over in the mind.
Gradually you can do as you like.

Fundamentally, it is giving up yourself to follow others.
Most people mistakenly give up the near to seek the far.
It is said, “Missing it by a little will lead many miles astray.”

The practitioner must carefully study.

This is the Treatise

The following list will give you sixty uses of salt, many of which you probably didn’t realize:

Soak stained hankies in salt water before washing.
Sprinkle salt on your shelves to keep ants away.
Soak fish in salt water before descaling; the scales will come off easier.
Put a few grains of rice in your salt shaker for easier pouring.
Add salt to green salads to prevent wilting…
Test the freshness of eggs in a cup of salt water; fresh eggs sink; bad ones float.
Add a little salt to your boiling water when cooking eggs; a cracked egg will stay in its shell this way.
A tiny pinch of salt with egg whites makes them beat up fluffier.
Soak wrinkled apples in a mildly salted water solution to perk them up.
Rub salt on your pancake griddle and your flapjacks won’t stick.
Soak toothbrushes in salt water before you first use them; they will last longer.
Use salt to clean your discolored coffee pot.
Mix salt with turpentine to whiten you bathtub and toilet bowl.
Soak your nuts in salt brine overnight and they will crack out of their shells whole. Just tap the end of the shell with a hammer to break it open easily.
Boil clothespins in salt water before using them and they will last longer.
Clean brass, copper and pewter with paste made of salt and vinegar, thickened with flour
But wanted to share my view about this particular day celebrated in India. A small story why valentine’s day is celebrated which will give a clear picture of this festival

In the city of Rome there once lived an emperor named Claudius. He is known in history as Claudius the Cruel.

Near his palace was a beautiful temple where served the priest Valentine. The Romans loved him dearly and assembled into the temple to hear his words. Before the fire that always burned on the altar they knelt to ask his blessing.

In the Roman empire wars broke out. Claudius summoned the citizens forth to battle and year after year the fighting continued. Many of the Romans were unwilling to go. The married men did not want to leave their families. The younger men did not wish to leave their sweethearts. The emperor was angry when soldiers were too few. He ordered that no marriages should be celebrated and that all engagements must be broken off immediately.

Many a young Roman went off to the wars in sorrow, leaving his love. Many a Roman maiden died of grief as a result of this decree.

Now the good priest Valentine heard of the emperor’s command and was very sad. When a young couple came to the temple, he secretly united them in marriage in front of the sacred altar. Another pair sought his aid and in secret he wedded them. Others came and quietly were married. Valentine was the friend of lovers in every district of Rome.

But, such secrets could not be kept for long. At last word of Valentine’s acts reached the palace and Claudius the Cruel was angry, exceedingly angry. He summoned his soldiers. “Go! Take that priest in the temple! Cast him into a dungeon! No man in Rome, priest or not, shall disobey my commands!”

Valentine was dragged from the temple, dragged away from the altar where a young maiden and a Roman youth stood, ready to wed. Off to prison the soldiers took him.

All of Valentine’s friends as well as their friends, interceded with Claudius in vane. Well was he named Claudius the Cruel. In a dungeon Valentine languished and died. His devoted friends buried him in the church of St. Praxedes. When you go to Rome you can see the very place. It was the year 270, on the fourteenth of February.

Let’s come to the point. In a country like India do we need to celebrate a day called Valentine’s Day?We praise our own land and proud to be an indian.Western culture needs to be admired and not to be adopted .Love can be expressed in anyway to their loved ones need not necessarily be celebrated exclusively called the “Valentine’s day”

Incredible India and united India. India is a soil of largest democracy in the world, with a civilization of more than 5000 years old where one
can see people from all walk of faiths like Hindus, Sikhs, Muslim, Christians, Jain’s and Buddhist living in divinity.India follows tradition and rich in heritage.A small example in India a union of man and woman is called marriage which is deemed essential for virtually everyone in India. For the individual, marriage is the great watershed in life,marking the transition to adulthood.Arranging a marriage is a critical responsibility for parents and other relatives of both bride and groom. Marriage alliances entail some redistribution of wealth as well as building and restructuring social realignments, and, of course, result in the biological reproduction of families. Such a valuable concept in life cannot be expressed in a day called Valentine’s day because western culture do not accept this or adopt this kind of culture in their country

Now days the new generation are very crazy of celebrating this day with pop and show and i feel we are loosing our culture by adopting the same .Expressed my views .Please right your comments on this.

So have very little time to focus on my Blog entries. For the time period I like to post a article I received from my Tai Chi School newsletter.

Source: unknown.

Taichi is one of the most popular Chinese internal martial arts, where it consists of smooth, rhythmic, gentle and graceful circular movements. Breathing is deep and relaxed and is in accordance to the tempo of the Taichi movements. These movement techniques help to integrate the mind and body which allows achievement of total harmony of the body.

Taichi has become an increasingly popular form of physical exercises around the world for all ages, both as a basic exercise program and as a complement to health care methods. Regardless of your age, Taichi can offer both physical and mental benefits to your health and fitness. Here are NewAgeTaichi top 10 reasons to give Taichi a try.

1. Increased flexibility and reduced risk of injury – Improvements in posture alignment, strength and flexibility have been attributed to Taichi among those individual who practice the exercise. Its slow circular movements allow for gentle stretching and warming up of muscles, tendons and ligaments and are often compared to continuous passive movement which is used to increase the speed of healing. Taichi also allows for compression to the joint which aids in providing nutrients to the surrounding cartilage.

2. Focused breathing and concentration – A primary component of Taichi is the rhythmic breathing that emphasizes a relaxed state of mind and body which encourages strong blood circulation. During Taichi practices, oxygenated blood flows to the muscles and brain.

3. The mind-body connection – Rather than mindlessly going through the motions, Taichi requires you to focus all of your energies on performing each movement precisely. When coupled these Taichi movements and breathing together, it is said to dissipate stress and anxiety. This also helps in improving the neural muscular adaptation in the body.

4. Greater strength and stamina – Taichi also improves strength and stamina physically through the various Taichi routine practices. It helps to generate the inner energy, which revitalizes the physical system, promote strength and stamina as well as flexibility and relaxation. The slower the tempo and the lower the movement posture, the greater the strength and endurance benefit that can be achieved. This is especially true when the Taichi practice is done in the correct posture alignment and movement patterns.

5. Fewer muscle imbalances – Those who are new to Taichi may notice muscle and flexibility imbalances throughout the body, which is often the primarily cause of body aches and soreness. Taichi movements are specially designed which consists of carefully well coordinated natural body movement to help correct these imbalances over time by proper posture alignment and movement patterns.

6. Better balance and stability – Balancing require you to engage the core stabilizer muscles, which can help improve overall stability. In Taichi, the movements transition emphasize on the focus of weight transfer, which activates a lot of the core stabilizer muscles. Over time, the body will acquire better balance and stability which helps to prevent falls and injuries.

7. Improved posture – Taichi helps to strengthen and open up tight areas such as the shoulders and muscles of the upper back, which is necessary for good posture. Taichi also focus on the body being erect and spine neutral during practices which helps to keep the body and spine in neutral alignment.

8. Greater kinesthetic body awareness – Taichi requires you to contract and/or relax specific muscles during practice, thereby increasing kinesthetic awareness of the body’s strengths and weaknesses. Kinesthetic body awareness is improved through Taichi slow and rhythmic movements that focus on proper postures and constant muscle contraction and relaxation during the Taichi routine that increases neutral muscular activities.

9. Stress reduction – Taichi helps soothe the mind and lower stress levels by focusing the mind on the inner self and the Taichi movements rather than on external distractions.

10. Cross-training benefits – Taichi combines flexibility, strength training, agility and balance to create a holistic mind-body physical activity that is a perfect addition to any fitness regimen.

Scientific investigation has shown that the physiological, psychological and social benefits that develop through the regular practice of Taichi are long lasting among this population.
