Mobile number portability delayed again; Oct 31 is new deadline

The implementation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) has been delayed again. The Government on Wednesday said that the deadline for introducing the facility has been extended to October 31. The system was supposed to be introduced on Wednesday .

“The Government has taken the decision after reviewing the readiness of the various access/international long distance service providers and keeping in view the complexity and enormity of the testing involved before MNP is implemented,” said a statement. MNP allows subscribers to change their mobile operator without having to change the number.

This is fourth time that the Government is extending the deadline. Earlier, MNP was likely to be implemented in a phased manner in the first phase by December 31, 2009, in metro cities and Category ‘A' Service Areas and in the rest of the country thereafter by March 2010.

Extending time line for MNP implementation, the Government later decided to implement it in whole of the country in one go by March 31, 2010. Keeping in view the status of readiness of various stakeholders, the launch of Mobile Portability Services was extended to June 30, 2010.

Despite repeated extension of deadlines over the past one year, so far only 14 per cent of the mobile networks across the country are ready for the introduction of MNP. On an all India basis, only about 14 per cent testing has been completed and 36 per cent is in progress. In 50 per cent of the networks, testing is yet to be done.

BSNL, MTNL

While the private players are slow with the testing, state-run BSNL and MTNL have not even set up MNP gateways. BSNL has assured that it will set up all the gateways by July 18, after which it will start the testing process. But MTNL has not even issued the purchase order for the gateways. MNP cannot be implemented until all the operators networks have been upgraded and tested.

Nokia has announced its new product E 73 Mode for the US market yesterday. More or less similar to E72 in look and specifications, the new E73 Mode boasts of a Qwerty Keypad , a five way scroll key and an optical trackpad. The 128gm phone consists of a QVGA of 240x320 pixels with 2.4 inches display size and 16 million colour resolution. It comes with 250 MB internal memory and 4 GB memory card included, thereafter expandable upto 16 GB. As far as the music functions are concerned it supports most of the audio formats like MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+ and the music lovers can always use the 3.5 mm audio jack to listen those. It supports both video playback and video recording with a H.263 video player. The series 60 phone offers a Symbian operating system of version 9.3. Nokia E73 Mode is facilitated by wi-fi connectivity with the help of 32 class GPRS and EGPRS as well as 3G which therefore supports video conferencing. It also features a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash which comes with an excellent image quality. Some of the other features of the phone are Stereo FM radio with RDS, Enterprise Push Mail, Document Editor, (word, excel, powerpoint and PDF), accelerometer with autorotate, GPS support and many more. Moreover another important feature is the ‘one touch theme changer option’ which can give the phone, a corporate look, a refreshing look and a very home look. Presently the phone comes with Titanium colour. It is going to be released in the US market on June 16th 2010. The price of Nokia E73 Mode has been decided to be around $70.

Toronto, April 27 (IANS) BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) Monday launched another smartphone - called BlackBerry Bold 9650 - to add another device to its premier Bold brand.

The company also unveiled the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G, its smallest smartphone yet.

'The new BlackBerry Bold 9650 is an extraordinary smartphone that we think customers will love,'' said RIM president and co-CEO Mike Lazaridis. 'Whether at work or at play, the new BlackBerry Bold 9650 offers a truly impressive communications, multimedia and connectivity experience,'' he said at the launch of the latest smartphones.

About the new BlackBerry Pearl 3G, he said, 'The BlackBerry Pearl 3G is unlike any other smartphone in the world and we expect a broad range of new and existing customers will be drawn to its powerful features and compact design.''

Beside a keyboard, optical trackpad and built-in Wi-Fi, the new smartphone also allows users to talk on the phone while browsing the web or sending and receiving email.

Loaded with 512 MB Flash memory and an expandable memory card slot that supports up to 32 GB microSDHC cards, the BlackBerry Bold 9650 smartphone supports 3G networks.

Built in stylish design with glossy black finish and chrome highlights, the new device features large high-resolution display which allows pictures, videos and web pages with great contrast and detail, the RIM statement said.

Apart from a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, zoom, image stabilization, autofocus and video recording, the new BlackBerry Bold also features advanced media player for videos, pictures and music, a 3.5 mm stereo headset jack and support for Bluetooth.

The new BlackBerry Pearl 3G measures less than two inches wide and weighs only 93g. It also features an optical trackpad for smooth navigation, a 3.2 MP camera with flash for quality pictures, and support for up to 32 GB of personal content.

Both the new devices will support mobile applications built by third parties for RIM and carry built-in GPS with support for geo-tagging, BlackBerry Maps and other mapping applications.

'The BlackBerry Bold 9650 fuses form and function in a striking design and, in addition to providing premium phone and multimedia features, it of course delivers the industry's leading mobile solution for email, messaging (IM, SMS, MMS) and social networking,'' the company said in its statement.

An addition to the Idea Center line of lenovo, a new all-in-one desktop has been shown last January 5, 2008.

The Idea Center A600 looks very modern and stylish. The first thing that you will notice is its 21.5 inch frameless screen that measures only 1″ at its slimmest point. The screen aspect ratio of the display is 16:9 which has 1920×1080 screen resolution that will give you a cinema like HD viewing experience.To add, it can also play blu-ray discs that just take home cinema viewing to a whole new level.

Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool checks your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps to remove the infection if it is found. Should any be found it is automatically removed, and a full report displayed on-screen at the end of the scan.
Because computers can appear to function normally when infected, Microsoft advises you to run this tool even if your computer seems to be fine. In addition to using this tool, you should use an up-to-date antivirus product to help protect your computer from other malicious software.

Microsoft releases an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month, and as needed to respond to security incidents.

Download this small tool and your PC will be scanned and checked for malicious software.

Google’s made their new beta web browser Chrome available for download. Chrome seems to be very fast, faster then Firefox 3 and IE8 and Opera. Loads all flash content really quick. Very impressed so far. Having individual processes for each tab is a great design, and makes much more of a difference in overall performance once you’ve got a lot of tabs opening and closing than I might have expected. The ability to make desktop "app" shortcuts for things like GMail is also nice, and it really is VERY fast.

Download Google Chrome For Windows Vista/XP. Chrome for Linux, MAC will be out soon.

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the
feelings
lived:

Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others
including Love.

One day it was announced to the feelings that the
island would sink,
so all repaired their boats and left. Love was the
only one who stayed.Love
wanted to persevere until the last possible moment.
When the
island was almost sinking, Love decided to ask for
help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat.Love
said, "Richness,
can you take me with you? " Richness answered, " No,
I can't.
There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There
is no place here for
you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by
in a beautiful vessel,
"Vanity, please help me!". " I can't help you Love.
You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity
answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "
Sadness, let me go with
you." Oh...Love, I am so sad that I need to be by
myself ! "Said sadness.

Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy
that she did not even
hear when Love called her !

Suddenly, there was a voice, " Come Love, I will
take you." It was an elder.
Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even
forgot to ask the elder her
name. When they arrived on dry land,
the elder went her own way.

Love realizing how much he owed the elder asked
Knowledge,another elder,
"Who helped me?"

" It was Time," Knowledge answered.
" Time? " asked Love.
" But why did Time help me? "

Knowledge smiled with deep Wisdom and answered,
"Because only TIME is Capable of understanding how
great LOVE is."
