The above quote is amusing and true. I could say the same thing. I leave it up the viewer to decide what makes sense in my paintings according to their world view. I like to create an atmosphere through my paintings in which the viewer can determine the origin and destination.

This painting Passage appears to have layers leading to a destination of energy and happiness in this nonsensical world. The yellow produces joy and flows through like a geyser, saturating the calmness of the other colors, bringing the sense back into the painting.

Create your passage by designing your happiness to flow through the parts of your life that make no sense.

If you look between the layers of colors and patterns in this painting you can see a wild forest of memories that describes an artist’s personal journey.

Many of us keep a journal or diary of our intimate thoughts and reflections about life. Sometimes there are just no words to describe a feeling or emotion. As an artist becomes one with the paint brush and canvas, a display of his reflections and memories emerge… a moment frozen in time forever. Just as a song-writer pens a classic, an artist paints his memoir. Each splash of paint is with purpose and meaning. Often times his expressions are hidden behind the layers.

The purpose of art is to see what others might have missed. What we see in a painting depends on our personal experience. Some may see the moon with stars in a painting while others see the sun with dandelions in the sky. Art will touch each soul differently depending on one’s mood or personal circumstances.

My paintings are like illusions. The colors and textures form what each individual person chooses to see. The purpose is to create a reaction within each viewer.

What do you see in this painting? Look at the colors and imagine if there was movement. Imagine the movement expanding beyond the four canvas corners…

Only the viewer can bring life to each painting. You decide what you see and give it Purpose.

Many of us must see something to believe it. In a Photoshop world we’ve even begun to question validity of photographs that we see in the media. Sometimes the only way to believe that something is real is to see it with our own eyes. Questioning the reality of something seen by someone else is how we learn and grow. Our brains are wired to respond to things that are visual which in turn induce emotion. Therefore, we can believe that it’s real because we see it in its true form.

Some people will travel to the ends of the world to see a natural phenomenon such as the rainbow eucalyptus trees in Hawaii, Lake Hillier in Australia or the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone. Seeing these beautiful forms of nature in real life can restore our vision on a much larger scale.

Renew your spirit today by seeing for yourself what the beauty of the world has to offer.

I am dedicating this month’s blog to Leonardo da Vinci as he was born over 560 years ago today, April 15^th. His curiosity about life was impeccable. His brilliance has been an inspiration and a mystery for centuries.

Imagine if Leonardo da Vinci was complacent with mediocrity and had given up on learning, seeking and discovering…

Da Vinci used the 67 years of his existence to challenge life as we know it today. We may not be off the charts on the genius scale but how are we using our potential to innovate?

Many of us are content with just getting by on what we’ve been taught or what we read in passing on the internet. We’ve taken shortcuts, and our challenges are diminishing. Are we really using our potential to discover and create? There’s an entire world of information and history, and our minds are unlimited!

Do you ever wish that people could see the world through your eyes, beyond reality? If they took a peek into your version of the world, would they see beauty and exquisiteness or would they see desert tones and monotony?

This painting is about seeing the world through different lenses, not just focusing on what’s here or there but really examining all aspects of life.

Have you ever been to Venice Beach? It can be perceived as a bit frightening. If you see it through the eyes of an artist it can be fascinating, colorful, and intriguing.

Art, music and books are great for the purpose of transporting you to a different world. I challenge you to pick a place, maybe an ordinary park or even just an aged building that you’ve passed by a hundred times. Do some research and find out little-known facts about it. Take some photos and give it significance. Don’t just look at it in passing—study it, write about it, or paint it. You’ll be pleasantly amazed at how your outlook will start to blossom.

Colors and words hide the earth’s translucence. I love to create paintings and watch them unfold bringing undiscovered life to this sometimes bleak world. As the colors blend into each other, a new energy forms!

This painting is called ‘Twilight’ as it combines the colors blue and red creating shades of purple, a mixture of meditation and mystery. It expands the combination of warmth and coolness to create the feeling of winter being cold and damp outside in the snow but warm inside next to a fireplace. As the time changes back, autumn surrounds us. The nights are longer and darker, and the earth is preparing to hide for the winter. Flowers vanish, it’s time to hibernate. I love to inhale the golden hues that violate the atmosphere. Bronze and cinnamon shades spread across the trees as the maple sun inches into the horizon. What a perfect recipe for a painting! As a musician gives birth to a song, so does a fine artist to a painting. A paint brush is the breath of life to a canvas, cultivating an imagination and bringing all the elements together in unity. This painting is named “Bridge” for the simple reason that there is a dominant white path way through the middle of the piece. In thinking about pathways, in life and art we sometimes find ourselves at a crossroad between decisions. Some decisions easily made and others require more thought and energy. Always finding the right path is a challenge. In art, following your instincts is a good path to creating art from your soul. Decisions on colors and methods easily fall into place as you begin to trust your soul’s intentions. My method of painting is to practice creating without judgment of my own work. It has been a journey of progression that is constantly evolving. My artwork is the result of the evolution of learning to trust my creative instincts.

Simplicity

Making the decision to simplify our lives is the first cornerstone to actually starting the process. It is definitely a process and not something that we expect to complete as a task in one day. Creating a complicated, even stressful life took probably years to build. But there is hope. If simplicity is what you desire that is half the battle. It is important to note that in a frenetic state of mind our concentration suffers. We are running around making mistakes, wasting energy and not really thinking clearly. Slowing down your thoughts and actions or simplifying is actually more productive because you will regain composure and be able to prioritize what needs to be done first. When we take time to breathe it replenishes our thoughts, reduces stress, and we see the big picture more clearly. As a result we get more accomplished in less time. If you make the decision to simplify, and commit to it, incredible things will happen.

The Color Blue

Blue is an overwhelming "favorite color." Blue is seen as trustworthy, dependable, and committed. The color of ocean and sky, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and has been scientifically proven to cause the body to produce chemicals that calm, lower heart rate and blood pressure. People are more productive in blue rooms because it is ideal for concentration. However, not all blues are serene and sedate.

Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic -- an engaging color that expresses exhilaration.

Indigo, a deeper blue, symbolizes wisdom and spiritual realization. While blue is the color of communication with others, indigo turns the blue inward to increase personal thought and profound insights. Blue happens to be a hue I love to work with perhaps as a result of its wonderful qualities. My affinity for blue has always been part of my journey as an artist.

Experimentation and art go together like coffee and steamed milk. However creating things as an artist means you sometimes have to break free of your old patterns and do some things differently such as experimenting with changing materials, styles or mediums. Never be afraid to try a new angle or method when creating, it may lead you to your true artistic self. Embrace the potential of each fresh, blank canvas.

Color is one of the elements in our lives that can change our perceptions of reality. No matter how complicated this world gets there is always the undeniable beauty of nature and its perfect color. I draw a lot of my inspiration for my paintings from nature because it is ever- changing and always fascinating to me. It is interesting to explore color’s connection, relationship and position in a natural environment and observe what makes it come alive. Dreams historically have been catalysts for artists, writers, musicians, and even inventors. A great amount of my creativity I attribute to my dreams. Reflection on 2011

Creativity has certainly been present in my life and my art during the past year. As the year comes to a close, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and opportunities I was able to have. While observing my work I see a lot of feelings and emotions integrated in the colors weaving through the canvas. The hue of my life has been exposed in the temperature and contrast of these paintings.

In reflecting on this year's accomplishments a great thrill was seeing my work exhibited at two notable venues in New York City. This had been a dream-come-true for me and seeing that dream become a reality was truly inspiring. My artistic soul was strengthened - my passion for creation renewed. Several of my works were and continue to be displayed in many beautiful local Southern California art galleries, corporate offices and restaurants.

I share my work with you for the purpose of reflecting on the past and launching ahead into the future...

My artistic intentions for the coming year are:

One With the Art

We live in a world of busy people. We have so much "to do" and yet we never get it all done. Art gives us the opportunity to step into another world and make a connection with another reality. When I paint, I listen to music and let go of all of the cares and worries of the day. I step into my creative reality. In that reality there is no right or wrong. There is no blueprint for what there is to be done. I don't even have a plan. I am at play. Just in the space between the brush, paint, and the canvas. There is a whole Universe in that space, one of freedom, play, and fun. You are dancing with the moment, one with the source of creativity. I sometimes feel like I'm not really even present. What if the brush and the paint are in fact dancing with the canvas to the music and I am merely the observer? I do not know what the painting is going to look like until it has dried. I am perhaps only the facilitator, the medium through which the creative process has chosen to express itself. When I talk to people who are looking at my work and they tell me all the different things they see in the painting, I am always fascinated by the creative ideas that are invoked by my work. For some reason I still claim it as "My Work" even though I am not really sure that the person I know myself to be is really there.

The Art of the Subconscious

I always think it is so interesting how the subconscious mind will reveal itself through ones creativity. I find what tends to flow out from me will sometimes emulate those artists whose work I have always admired. Although this is not a deliberate attempt to copy, I find that some of my work will in ways resemble or at least have the same feeling as some of the masters that I have been able to see in museums around the world. It might be a color scheme or even just vibe that is coming from the painting that will spark a memory of something else I have seen.

If you are an artist, take a look at your work and see where your subconscious created an evocation of other paintings you love. Perhaps we are somehow all connected in the spirit of creativity that inhabits every artist and art lover.

Vibe speaks to the power of our purposeful actions and joy. Each of us vibrate at a resonance frequency. When we see art that we like, it is because the art also vibrates at our frequency. My intention is to create work that reaches many people at many levels.
