If you're running ZoneAlarm Pro you will probably have considered that most of the "advanced" settings might as well be in Chinese for all the use they are. User friendly they are not! If you are not on a LAN (connected to another computer in a network) you can use this guide to give your firewall some real muscle and a new lease of life: Launch ZoneAlarm Pro and click to highlight the "Firewall" tab on the left hand side . In the pane that appears on the right hand side in the section "Internet Zone Security" set the slider control to "High" Then click the "Custom" button in the same section. The next settings page is divided into two sections with tabs Internet Zone and Trusted Zone at the top of the page. Under the Internet Zone tab there is a list of settings that can be accessed by scrolling. At the top is the high security settings and the only thing that should check from there is "allow broadcast/multicast". The rest should be unchecked. Scroll down until you get to the medium security settings area. Check all the boxes in this section until you get to "Block Incomming UDP Ports". When you check that you will be asked to supply a list of ports, and in the field at the bottom of the page enter 1-65535 Then go back to the list and check the box alongside "Block Outgoing UDP Ports" and at the bottom of the page enter 1-19, 22-79, 82-7999, 8082-65535 Repeat this proceedure for the following settings "Block Incomming TCP Ports": 1-65535 "Block Outgoing TCP Ports": 1-19, 22-79, 82-7999, 8082-65535 Then click "Apply", "Ok" at the bottom of the page. Back in the right hand "Firewall" pane go next to the yellow "Trusted Zone Security" section and set it to "high" with the slider. Click "Custom" and repeat the above proceedure this time choosing the Trusted Zone tab at the top of the settings page. These settings will stop all incoming packets @ports 1-65535 and also block all pings, trojans etc... this will also stop all spyware or applications from phoning home from your drive without your knowledge! And as always, don't let ZA phone home either....to fix this, manually enable you want to check for updates!

Right-click an empty spot on your desktop and then click Properties. 2. Click the Screen Saver tab. 3. In the Screen saver list, click My Pictures Slideshow. 4. Click Settings to make any adjustments, such as how often the pictures should change, what size they should be, and whether you'll use transition effects between pictures, and then click OK. So exactly what is bandwidth as it relates to web hosting? Put simply, bandwidth is the amount of traffic that is allowed to occur between your web site and the rest of the internet. The amount of bandwidth a hosting company can provide is determined by their network connections, both internal to their data center and external to the public internet. Network Connectivity The internet, in the most simplest of terms, is a group of millions of computers connected by networks. These connections within the internet can be large or small depending upon the cabling and equipment that is used at a particular internet location. It is the size of each network connection that determines how much bandwidth is available. For example, if you use a DSL connection to connect to the internet, you have 1.54 Mega bits (Mb) of bandwidth. Bandwidth therefore is measured in bits (a single 0 or 1). Bits are grouped in bytes which form words, text, and other information that is transferred between your computer and the internet. If you have a DSL connection to the internet, you have dedicated bandwidth between your computer and your internet provider. But your internet provider may have thousands of DSL connections to their location. All of these connection aggregate at your internet provider who then has their own dedicated connection to the internet (or multiple connections) which is much larger than your single connection. They must have enough bandwidth to serve your computing needs as well as all of their other customers. So while you have a 1.54Mb connection to your internet provider, your internet provider may have a 255Mb connection to the internet so it can accommodate your needs and up to 166 other users (255/1.54). Traffic A very simple analogy to use to understand bandwidth and traffic is to think of highways and cars. Bandwidth is the number of lanes on the highway and traffic is the number of cars on the highway. If you are the only car on a highway, you can travel very quickly. If you are stuck in the middle of rush hour, you may travel very slowly since all of the lanes are being used up. Traffic is simply the number of bits that are transferred on network connections. It is easiest to understand traffic using examples. One Gigabyte is 2 to the 30th power (1,073,741,824) bytes. One gigabyte is equal to 1,024 megabytes. To put this in perspective, it takes one byte to store one character. Imagine 100 file cabinets in a building, each of these cabinets holds 1000 folders. Each folder has 100 papers. Each paper contains 100 characters - A GB is all the characters in the building. An MP3 song is about 4MB, the same song in wav format is about 40MB, a full length movie can be 800MB to 1000MB (1000MB = 1GB). Asus Technology launches advanced mobile phones

Asus Technology has launched advanced mobile phones in the Indian market.

Priced in the range of Rs 16,990 to Rs 20,900, these mobiles have additional facilities such as accessing Internet, fax and global positioning system. The company today introduced two models - PDA526 and M530w phones in the local market.

“The phones are targeted towards business class people. We plan to launch 15 other models in India by next year which will also be in the same price bracket,” said Edward Wang, Business Head, Mobile Communication Business, Asus India.

He said the company would be making more investments in India in the next two years for its PDA phone business. “Going forward, we are looking for a one-third market share of the Indian PDA phone market by next year,” said Andrew Tsui, Managing Director.

The company is targeting the metro cities and plans to establish a strong brand presence first in these cities, before venturing into other towns. It is in talks with mobile telecom service providers to bundle Asus’ PDA phones with their new subscribers.

India Digital Lifestyle Distributors Pvt Ltd will distribute PDA phones to large format and mobile phone retailers across the country, said Tsui.

mozilla releases firefox 3. beta

Mozilla has released beta version of firefox 3. Alpha versions were out few months back. "The move from alpha to beta typically means that we've hit a point of quality where we believe the browser is useable as a daily browser," said Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla's vice president of engineering. Schroepfer expects a second beta to follow by year's end followed by a final beta 3 update in early 2008. By the time the finished product is unveiled, sometime in 2008, the team hopes to have close to half a million users testing its software. One of the big changes with Firefox 3.0 is an overhaul of the way the browser bookmarks and keeps track of browsing history. With this new feature, called Places, browsing history will now be stored in a database, meaning that it will be much easier for Firefox users to search for sites they've visited. "Because of the new Places infrastructure we're able to store a much larger component of your history," Schroepfer said. And the browser will now be able to search what is being typed into the address bar to see if it's relevant to previous Web visits. For example, someone who had recently visited a Web page entitled "Mozilla releases firefox 3. beta," could type "beta" into the address bar and would be directed to the viewed page. security has also been increased. The browser is now integrated with Google 's database of known malicious Web sites and will warn users before they visit sites that are considered to be dangerous. And Firefox's download manager is now better integrated with antivirus software, making it easier to spot malicious files before they are placed on the desktop. As we get close to the 1.0 release of our opentaps Open Source ERP + CRM system, I've been trying very hard to think about what future versions will do. The immediate future is pretty easy to see: we have a good system for bringing together processes and data in a company. We can easily extend it to meet the needs more of more companies and industries. We'll also be adding tools for data analysis. But what should opentaps 4.0 do? And how should it do it? This is hard for me to see right now, but I could envision how future computers in general should work, so I'm going to jot down a few notes to help me think later: In 2012, my computer is the size of a credit card. I'll take it with me wherever I go and turn it on either using a scan of my eye or my thumb. It comes with no monitor and no keyboard, but once turned on, it will project a display on a surface, and I can tap and move around objects like an iPhone. I will mostly interact with it via voice, though. It should have transferred my voice print from a previous computer. The most important tool on my computer will be my buddy list. This is actually a ranked list that is automatically generated by my computer. The most important ones are people whom I have tagged as my buddies, with the ones I frequently interact with being more important. Next down are people on my contacts list. Further down are people which I have transacted with once or twice, say on eBay. Further down from them are people whose blogs or photos I have read once. If I search for something, my results will be filtered based on this buddy list, based on importance. Results which my buddies have liked are given the highest rankings. Results from the occasional blogger whose blog I read (like this one, perhaps?) might show up a little higher than the general muck, but not much. My second most important tool will be a calendar. I can schedule in events myself, but it will also automatically schedule things for me. For example, if I make a dinner reservation or book a hotel, those dates will be automatically noted on my calendar. It will also automatically remind me of things. Finally, my buddies and I can share calendars, so we could see what we're each doing. I will have an annotation tool to make notes and bookmark links wherever I go. I can annotate anything I want--a document, a web page, a scheduled event, a photograph, and they will be available. My computer will also be a phone, camera, and video/audio recorder. I can take pictures or record conversations wherever I go. It will also interface with all the machinery of my life: my car, my refrigerator, the lights in my backyard, and so on. Before I get in my car, I can see if it needs a checkup or more fuel. I will have all the applications I use now and more, and they will be local on my computer. My credit-card size computer will be extremely powerful, so there's no reason to use it as a dummy terminal and access basic applications over the web. I will, however, be able to share my documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with anybody I want to over the web. At the push of a button, it will synchronize my local document with a web version and make it available. It will also download changes made by others into my local version for me to consider. A sort of SVN for everybody. Similarly, I can start jotting down notes or recording some ideas on my computer and then publish it as my blog. You'll be able to hear as well as read my blog. (Yeah!) My blog will essentially become all my records, notes, pictures, and experiences that I care to make available to others. My photos will work the same way: I take some pictures with my computer and then can push them to the web. You will then be able to see it and then bring it into one of your albums. For example, I might take some pictures over the weekend, and you might use a couple of them for an album about Los Angeles, along with the pictures taken by other people who live here. Except we'll no longer think of it as the web. The concept of local versus internet will be less visible. People won't say "I'm putting this on my web page." They'll say "I'm going to share this with everybody out there" or "I'll let my buddies see these pictures". The computer will deal with the web, not people. It might use an account that I subscribe to, either paid for automatically as part of my communications bill, or freely given to me in exchange for advertising rights. (Who knows? Maybe a news service would give out free accounts in exchange for publishing rights.) I will still have a browser, but I'll use it as often as the yellow pages. The general purpose web browser will only be used to access content from providers with antiquated websites. Most of the time, I will be accessing information from service providers via what looks like the "widgets" on the Mac. For example, if I want music, I'll fire up a music widget. I can then tell it to use the music stores of my choice and select from albums, artists, and songs from it. It will manage the downloads and play the music for me, either with little headsets I carry in my pocket or beamed into my home speakers. Similarly, if I want to make travel arrangements or book a dinner, I'll fire up a little "concierge" widget. It'll subscribe to the travel services for me, look up flights, book them for me, and put them on my calendar. My computer will be highly personalized to my needs. It'll know that I don't want to go to the same kind of restaurant twice in a week, that I don't want flights with stopovers, and that I prefer hotel rooms away from the street. I can also ask it to "hide" all my work-related tasks and appointments during the weekend.

Bit Torrent Tutorials The first things you need to know about using Bit Torrent: -- Bit Torrent is aimed at broadband users (or any connection better than dialup). -- Sharing is highly appreciated, and sharing is what keeps bit torrent alive. -- A bit torrent file (*.torrent) contains information about the piece structure of the download. -- The method of downloading is not your conventional type of download. Since downloads do not come in as one big chunk, you are able to download from many people at once, increasing your download speeds. There may be 100 "pieces" to a file, or 20,000+ pieces, all depending on what you're downloading. Pieces are usually small (under 200kb) -- The speeds are based upon people sharing as they download, and seeders. Seeders are people who constantly share in order to keep torrents alive. Usually seeders are on fast connections (10mb or higher). In this tutorial, I will be describing it all using a bit torrent client called Azureus. This client is used to decode the .torrent files into a useable format to download from other peers. From here on out, I will refer to Bit Torrent as BT. Before you use the plug-in, take a look at /http://www.suprnova.org, and browse the files. Hold your mouse over the links, and you'll notice every file ends in .torrent. This is the BT file extension. Usually, .torrent files are very small, under 200kb. They contain a wealth of information about the file you want to download. A .torrent file can contain just 1 single file, or a a directory full of files and more directories. But regardless, every download is split up into hundreds or thousands of pieces. The pieces make it much easier to download at higher speeds. Back to suprnova.org. Look at the columns: Added | Name | Filesize | Seeds | DLs (and a few more which aren't very useful.) I'll break this down. Added: Self explanitory, its the date the torrent was added. Name: Also self explanitory. Filesize: Duh Seeds: This is how many people are strictly UPLOADING, or sharing. These people are the ones that keep .torrent files alive. By "alive", I mean, if there's no one sharing the .torrent file, no one can download. DLs: This is how many people currently downloading that particular torrent. They also help keep the torrent alive as they share while they download. It's always best to download using a torrent that has a decent amount of seeders and downloaders, this way you can be assured there's a good chance your download will finish. The more the better. Now that you should understand how torrent files work, and how to use them, on to Azureus! First, get JAVA! You need this to run Azureus, as java is what powers it. Get Java here: /http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html Next, get Azureus at: /http://azureus.sourceforge.net Next, get the Suprnovalister plugin from /http://s93732957.onlinehome.us/storage/suprnovalister.jar Install Java JRE before you do ANYTHING. Install Azureus, and then in the installation folder, create 2 more folders. ./Plugins/suprnovalister (For example, if you installed Azureus to C:\PROGRAM FILES\AZUREUS, create C:\PROGRAM FILES\AZUREUS\PLUGINS\SUPRNOVALISTER). Next, put the suprnovalister.jar file that you downloaded, in that folder. Load up Azureus, and if you want, go through the settings and personalize it. The tab labeled "My Torrents" is the section of Azureus you need the most often. That lists all your transfers, uploads and downloads. It shows every bit of information you could possibly want to know about torrents you download. In the menu bar, go to View > Plugins > Suprnova Lister. This will open up a new tab in Azureus. Click on "Update Mirror". This will get a mirror site of suprnova.org containing all current torrent files available. Once a mirror is grabbed, choose a category from the drop-down box to the left and click "Update". All the available downloads appear in the main chart above. Just double click a download you want, and bang its starting to download. Open the "My Torrents" tab again to view and make sure your download started. After your download has finished, be nice, and leave the torrent transferring. So people can get pieces of the file from you, just as you got pieces from other people. Alternatively, if you don't want to use the plugin... you can just head to suprnova.org and download files to any folder. Then go to File > Open > .torrent File in Azureus.

The allows atmosphere a large percentage of the rays of visible light from the Sun to reach the Earth's surface and heat it. A part of this energy is reradiated by the Earth's surface in the form of long-wave infrared radiation, much of which is absorbed by molecules of carbon dioxide

and water vapour in the atmosphere and which is reflected back to the surface as heat. This is roughly analogous to the effect produced by the glass panes of a greenhouse, which transmit sunlight in the visible range but hold in heat.

The trapping of this infrared radiation causes the Earth's surface and lower atmospheric layers to warm to a higher temperature than would otherwise be the case. Without this greenhouse heating, the Earth's average temperature would be only about -73° C (-100° F); even the oceans would be frozen under such conditions. Alternatively, a “runaway” greenhouse effect like that found on the planet Venus would result in surface temperatures as high as 500° C (932° F).

Owing to the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide caused by modern industrial societies' widespread combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas), the greenhouse effect on Earth may be intensified and long-term climatic changes may result. An increase in atmospheric concentrations of other trace gases such as chlorofluorocarbons (Freons), nitrous oxide, and methane, due again largely to human activity, may also aggravate greenhouse conditions. A growing number of scientists have predicted that significant alterations in climate patterns will be seen by the turn of the century. They estimate that global average temperatures could increase by as much as 5° C (9° F) by the middle of the 21st century. Such global warming would cause the polar ice caps and mountain glaciers to melt rapidly and result in appreciably higher coastal waters. The rise in global temperature would also produce new patterns and extremes of drought and rainfall, seriously disrupting food production in certain regions. Other scientists involved in climatic research maintain that such predictions are overstated, however.

A few things you might want to try with Google: Hand type the following prefixes and note their utility: link:url Shows other pages with links to that url. related:url same as "what's related" on serps. site:domain restricts search results to the given domain. allinurl: shows only pages with all terms in the url. inurl: like allinurl, but only for the next query word. allintitle: shows only results with terms in title. intitle: similar to allintitle, but only for the next word. "intitle:webmasterworld google" finds only pages with webmasterworld in the title, and google anywhere on the page. cache:url will show the Google version of the passed url. info:url will show a page containing links to related searches, backlinks, and pages containing the url. This is the same as typing the url into the search box. spell: will spell check your query and search for it. stocks: will lookup the search query in a stock index. filetype: will restrict searches to that filetype. "-filetype:doc" to remove Microsoft word files. daterange: is supported in Julian date format only. 2452384 is an example of a Julian date. maps: If you enter a street address, a link to Yahoo Maps and to MapBlast will be presented. phone: enter anything that looks like a phone number to have a name and address displayed.
