Al-Rubay’ bint Mu’awwidh – Allah be pleased with her – said while describing how the Prophet – Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him – told them to fast ‘Ashura:

We used to make toys out of dyed wool for the children and keep them with us so if the children asked us for food we would give them the toys to distract them until they completed their fast.  —  Sahih Muslim. A similar narration is also in Sahih Al-Bukhari.

Al-Nawawi states in his commentary on Sahih Muslim:
In this narration we are shown that children should be trained to do acts of obedience and made used to doing worship; although they are not legally bound.

Water: Healthy Hydration Lessons & Activity Pack

Fasting, especially during the summer months, require that we pay attention to our intake of fluids.

We found some activities on the web that teach the importance of water to the human body. The lessons are geared toward children ages 8 – 12 but can be modified for those who are younger.

It may be easier to teach this just before Ramadhan when it’s easier to talk about food and water while no one is fasting.

Just a short time ago, Fatwa-Online was informed of the official decision and announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia that since the moon of Ramadhaan was not sighted this evening, here in Saudi Arabia, we shall be completing thirty (30) days of Sha’baan (1434 A.H.), in accordance with the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam):

((Fast when you see the crescent. If it is obscured to you, then complete thirty days of Sha’baan. And break your fast when you see the crescent. If it is obscured to you then fast thirty days)), [transmitted by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim].

Subsequently, we shall be starting our taraaweeh prayers tomorrow (Tuesday 9 July 2013) after the ‘Ishaa. prayer, in preparation for the first fast of Ramadhaan on Wednesday 10 July 2013, inshaa.-Allaah.

May Allah forgive us Muslims and cause us to enter another Ramadhan.

We decided to add a yearly theme to the blog. And this year’s theme is upcycling: turning recycled items into useable objects, especially craft objects.

So, start gathering your recyclables now: empty cereal boxes, egg cartons, brown paper bags, odd buttons, etc.

Keep them in a storage bin or cabinet out of every one’s way but still within reach.

Insha’Allah we will be sharing plenty of cute little projects based on common household items we usually toss out. And if you have any good ideas on how to use recycleables specific to Ramadhan, let us know. We’ll be happy to feature it!
