My good friend and fellow classmate Warda asked me to help her with makeup and hair for the Nadia Lakdawala Fashion Show which was taking place during the Mosaic Festival in the heart of Mississauga.

The colours scheme was very bright and vibrant which I was so happy to do. Agency's tend to lean towards neutrals and keeping it clean and simple nowadays. So this was a nice treat for me. I thought I lost it since all I've been doing lately are just everyday looks.

I especially love the first model that I worked on because she was so stunning. The designs were lovely. Very rich in colour and texture and I'm glad to have had the pleasure to work with my Warda again!

WEDDING // Bridesmaid Makeup

Today I got to help out my girlfriend Cristina do some bridal makeup for a wedding. The bridesmaids barely ever wear makeup so I kept it very minimal and very natural. My camera isn't that great but let me know what you think :)

Model Talk // Interview with Kristi Walker for NTM Studios

A few weeks ago I got to do makeup and hair for an aspiring model Kristi Walker. We decided to do a very Marilyn Monroe look for her because she fit that image to a tee! Working at NTM Studios allows me to get closer to the models we work with. Once they've had a shoot there they always come back. I got the chance interview Kristi and view her thoughts about stepping into the modeling industry.

Lelo: You’ve never modeled before. How does it make you feel to have done a Model Challenge at NTM Studios, a fashion show, and 2 photo shoots within a month?

Kristi Walker: I feel great, its been a great experience. I really hope to go far in modeling and I hope to maybe even pursue it as a future career. Doing shoots at NTM has been the perfect start for me. Richard Yagutilov(YouGottaLove) is an amazing photographer. I was really lucky to get the chance to do a shoot with him. Everyone at the studio was great, and they make you feel really comfortable.

Lelo: Now that you’re more familiar with being in front of the camera, would you say that you’ve gained a lot more confidence in yourself?

Kristi Walker: Yes I would say that I’ve gained more confidence. I’ve become more comfortable with being in front of the camera and posing for pictures.

Lelo: Every girl loves to get dolled up. What was your reaction when you were provided with a makeup artist, hair stylist and wardrobe stylist for your creative shoot?

Kristi Walker: I was amazed, it felt really cool to have people making sure you looked perfect, making sure your hair and makeup was perfect. It almost makes you feel like a celebrity for those few hours. It was great… I would recommend it because it just makes you feel great, and excited and just confident, like its all about you. It’s a really great feeling, and a great start to a shoot.

Lelo: The industry has many stereotypes for model’s such as height and weight. What advice would you give someone who wants to step into modeling and does not fit the stereotypical look?

Kristi Walker: I would tell them to go for it, everyone was born a different way and each person is beautiful just the way they are. You shouldn’t ever have to change anything about yourself to be and feel pretty. A shoot with a bunch of super skinny girls is really great and turns out nice, but what about everyone else. People want to see and want to know that its okay not to be the stereotypical “model” shape and look. They need to know that skinny, tall, short, or curvy, they are still beautiful no matter what. The definition of a model is not “super skinny ten feet tall person that promotes fashion and/or art”. The definition of a model is “a person who is used to promote fashion and/or art” not a stereotype…just a person. So I would say do your thing, and show people that you can be a model.

Kristi was such a sweetheart. At only 18, she's got a lot going for herself.

Product Love: Consonant Body Skin Care

My skin goes through a lot of phases. One month, it's perfect. No flaws. No break outs and no un-eveness in my skin tone. I've tried a lot of products in one year to help my skin stay that way. At one point. Nothing worked. I broke out like crazy. I've tried everything... (pretty much). I almost bought something new every 2 months. This past year has been a constant battle with my skin.

While I attended the FAT fashion show in April, I got a little goodie bag. Inside was a sample of Consonant Body's Firming Eye Cream and Face Moisturizer. Since I've tried everything, I might as well try this too right? It was my first Organic Skin Care product that I've ever tried and after 2 weeks I was hooked. You've maybe seen me tweet about it before. I think they are by far the best eye cream and face moisturizer that I've ever tried. My dry patches, blotches, dark circles, fine lines (Yes, I have fine lines.. just because I'm Asian doesn't mean they're not there. I'm young but 2 kids will do it to ya), pretty much everything that can be bad disappeared.

After attending the Spa show in Toronto, I got to pick up a larger bottle of the face and eye cream, a face wash and an exfoliating bar of soap. I love everything. My mother even tried it and immediately she was hooked. She plans to use the products at her spa.

The packaging has cute little messages for you to read as well. I think everyone should try this product out. & If you're really into all that organic stuff. This is the way to go!

RANT // NEW YORK CITY's MAKEUP SHOW

What can I really say about the makeup show? It was PACKED. I couldn't even breathe in there.. But my oh my were there vendors galore. I loved it. I wish I could've stayed a bit longer than an hour but I'm claustrophobic and I couldn't even see anything. The booths were tiny and there was about 5000 people that attended. For future, I hope that they have bigger booths and maybe a bigger venue. It was about the same size venue as the one in Toronto but with a whole lot more vendors for sure. I didn't even get to buy all that I wanted to buy because I just couldn't get to it.

I did a photo shoot last week in Alliston with the beautiful Vanessa Dee. She's an awesome model.

She and her boyfriend picked me up and we were on our way. What we thought was going to be a very long ride wasn't so bad at all. We did get lost and hit a dead end where there was a house with dead cars everywhere and signs on trees that said CHILDREN. That kind of creeped us out so we got out of there as soon as we could. It was like a scene from a horror movie. Luckily Rob came and saved us.

We were greeted by his 3 Labradors. Who seemed to love to jump on me. I'm not used to dogs so it was a bit awkward. (I'll never forget you Maggie). We also got to go out and meet his 2 horses. This was an awesome shoot and my first time having a model work with animals. Hope you guys like it.

During NTM Studios model challenge last month, I was super stoked to have Cargo Cosmetics as one of our sponsors. They provided us with a kit to use and I got to play with a little bit of everything.

I must say that their Blu Ray line is my absolute favourite! It gives the right amount of coverage and looks flawless on camera.

Second, the bronzers. You can never go wrong with bronzers from Cargo. With a variety of shades anyone can have that sun kissed glow when they're feeling a little dull. It's a definite kit essential for anyone.

RANT // NTM's BEAUTY AD MODEL CHALLENGE

Last weekend, I had about 100 girls come out to NTM STUDIOS to participate for the chance to win a commercial beauty shoot with Cargo Cosmetics and Vasanti Cosmetics. It was an extremely stressful weekend and a 2 month long process to go through making sure that all the preparation was done. We also had a fashion show last night in collaboration with Quench to announce the winners for the competition. We selected 10 girls from the competition to participate. It was a huge success.

I wouldn't have been able to pull all of this off without the help from some amazing makeup artists.

Nadia (www.lovelipstickandlime -- you absolutely rock! glad I had you both weekends), Bernice & Mary(amazing artists who just graduated from SOMA), Amanda & Kat (aspiring artists who have no experience but did such amazing jobs), Warda (my partner in crime, without her I wouldn't have been able to do any of this).

I love my team. Thank you.

PHOTO SHOOT // Creative with Ishmil & Vania - All Cargo Cosmetics Products Used

On Friday we started in the mid afternoon on our photo shoot. What I thought would take me 4 hours max to do (makeup and hair) took about 6.5 hours. I spent 5 hours on the hair alone. But I absolutely love how the outcome turned out. Taking long straight hair and making it like an afro was very time consuming. For those who wonder how I did that. I used mousse and some pipe cleaners. Took small strands of hair and wrapped them around the pipe cleaners. I find it a good method because the hair sets in less than an hour. Because she had so much hair and it was so long, it took me quite a bit of time.

For makeup, I had the pleasure of using all of Cargo's products that day. Besides their bronzer's (which I've always loved), this was my very first time using their foundations, eye shadows, etc. It was absolutely amazing. Everything was so easy to use... The model felt like she was barely wearing any makeup at all. This is rare when it comes to a photo shoot. Great pigment in all of the products & I absolutely heart their Blu Ray products! I want to use them all of the time. :) I highly recommend them to anyone in the industry and especially for everyday use.
