IRS SCANDAL: 41 Conservative Groups Now Join in Suit Against Government Targeting

It’s heartening to see this. Chief Counsel for the ACLJ Jay Sekulow is heading up a vigorous effort to push back against the soft tyranny that smothered grassroots conservative groups during the 2012 election season. Cruz to introduce voter ID amendment to counteract Supreme Court ruling

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday said he would offer an amendment to the Senate immigration bill to counteract a Supreme Court decision striking down state laws requiring voters to prove their citizenship.

Cruz’s amendment, which he plans to attach to the bipartisan Gang of Eight bill being debated this week in the Senate, would allow states to require IDs before voters register under the federal “Motor Vehicle” voter registration law.

The high court on Monday overturned an Arizona law requiring people to prove their citizenship if they wanted to register through that law. In a 7-2 vote, the court ruled in the case of Arizona v. The Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. that state law was trumped by federal law and Arizona could not require voters to provide additional information.

Sen. Cruz: We Must Ensure Federal Law Does Not Preempt States’ Abilities to Require ID for Voter Registration

Files Amendment to Immigration Reform Bill; Co-sponsored by Sen. Vitter

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) today filed an amendment to S. 744, the Senate Immigration Reform Bill, to close a loophole in the federal “Motor Voter” law that preempts states from enforcing requirements that would ensure those registered to vote are U.S. citizens. Senator David Vitter (R-LA) is a co-sponsor.

“The right to vote is a fundamental building block of our nation’s democratic process and it crucial that we have the measures in place to uphold the integrity of our elections,” said Sen. Cruz. “This amendment ensures that states can enforce the commonsense requirement that those registered to vote must actually be U.S. citizens.”

The Cruz-Vitter amendment states: “Nothing in subsection (a) [42 U.S.C. §1973gg-4(a)] shall be construed to preempt any State law requiring evidence of citizenship in order to complete any requirement to register to vote in elections for Federal office.” This measure simply amends an existing federal statute; it does not require states to adopt certain voting requirements, respecting the interests of federalism.

Today the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. that the federal “Motor Voter” law (the National Voter Registration Act of 1993) preempted Arizona’s commonsense requirement that a person must present concrete evidence of citizenship before they are allowed to register to vote.

“Justice Alito said in his dissent, ‘I do not think that this is what Congress intended’ and I agree with him,” the Senator said. “The Court’s ruling leaves a hole in federal law that allows non-citizens to register by using the promulgated federal form without showing proof of citizenship. This encourages voter fraud and we must ensure that our elections are fair and accurately reflect the will of our citizens.”

Sarah Palin blasted far left CBS reporter Elizabeth Palmer for comparing the Tea Party to the killer Iranian regime. “She puts the BS in CBS.”

Excuse me, but I don’t think firing Holly Paz amounts to “holding them accountable” over at the IRS — not after the organization’s persecution squelched effective opposition to the point that the most unqualified failure of an incumbent in my lifetime got re-election and his cronies continued access to all the money and power of America. “Punish one to teach a hundred” is good advice but that one should be a Lois Lerner or Schuller, not an underling. (Reassignment is not punishment by the way. Let’s see where Paz goes next.) That said, this is a good interview. Watch.
