HOW IT WORKS:
Peeling and bleaching is the best method for whitening the underarm area because it is a comprehensive solution that not only treats the symptom of dark underarms but also addresses the cause. The whitening and peeling kits are very reasonably priced (even as low as $25 – 1000php) and they're easy to use at home in a private setting where you don't have to worry about doctors and technicians. Even if a doctor isn't performing the treatment, you should seriously consider consulting a doctor or dermatologist before trying any home whitening treatments.

Peeling and bleaching works by removing the discolored outer layer of skin underneath the arms with a chemical peel before bleaching the armpits. This exposes the under layer of skin that hasn't been exposed to the same conditions that darkened the skin in the first place (harsh deodorant ingredients that react with body oils and sweat). This layer of skin is much lighter and only requires a minimum amount of whitening to even out the tone and make it look natural.

The whitening kits contain the following:
1. Green Peeling Oil – This is the chemical that will slowly remove and slough off the outer layer of the dermis.
2. Bleaching Cream – This is the main skin lightener that will even out the skin tone under the armpit. By removing the first layer, less bleaching is needed and less of this gets used.
3. Aluminum Chloride based antiperspirant – Because most of the discoloring of the underarms occurs when commercial deodorants react with oil and sweat, the kit supplies a replacement antiperspirant that is odorless and is so powerful that it's prescribed for people with hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating). The antiperspirant contains Melawhite which is a whitening agent that will continue to even out the skin after the initial bleaching.
4. Hydrocortisone cream – This is a topical steroid that is used to help reduce inflammation and irritation during and after the peeling process.
5. Whitening soap of your choice – Any whitening soap you prefer that can also be used on the body
6. Instructions/Manual

Directions for using an underarm whitening kit
1. Using your fingers apply the green peeling oil to your underarms three times a day allowing it to dry completely. This should take 5-10 minutes and you won't need to rinse it off. I would recommend spacing it out over the day; however, you can apply it at night so long as you wait 15-20 minutes between each application. This will be done for three straight days.

2. Apply hydrocortisone cream as needed to irritated areas. Your armpits will begin to burn after a day or two, and the hydrocortisone cream will help to ease the inflammation.

3. After the three days, stop applying the peeling oil and wait for the skin to start peeling off. It may take an additional two to three days before you see any peeling. If you don't get any peeling to occur, wait two weeks before re-starting the treatment.

4. Wait for the peeling to complete before bleaching. This may take anywhere from 3 to 7 days to complete.

5. Once skin has stopped peeling, use the Aluminum Chloride antiperspirant as you would any deodorant and apply the bleaching cream only at night. Keep the bleaching cream in the refrigerator when not using.

6. During the peeling and whitening process do not use any deodorant and avoid washing it with soap. This are will be particularly sensitive to any chemicals and you do not want to have a reaction. Also try to avoid shaving or waxing the area if possible. Shaving can be performed if you're extremely careful.
That's all it takes! Just 7-10 days and your underarms will be lighter and more natural looking, perfect for the summer (and any weddings you happen to be attending). If you want to whiten your underarms again, make sure to wait three months or more before undergoing the peeling process. This will give your body time to recover .

* does not sit on fine lines

* I usually apply this to lighten my mildly dark circles and it does the trick

* did not irritate my eyes

What I don't like...

* might be a little too sheer, so I usually let it dry just a bit before I start blending

* it does not cover blemishes, but it can lighten dark circles

* product has been discontinued

My rating: 3 / 5

This illuminating pen really does what it claims to be. It does not function as a concealer but more like a highlighter. It really brightens up my face. As you can see in photo above, it made my eyes look less tired and made it appear brighter. I would recommend this to those that have mild dark circles, since this only gives light coverage.

Mary Kay Brow Definer Pencil in Brunette Swatch

I really love the formulation of this brow pencil. It is really easy to apply and it stays all day. My problem with this is that the shade Brunette is a little too dark for me, so I usually have to use my MAC Brow Set in Beguile to make it look lighter. I did try to apply this in feather strokes and I love how natural looking my brows were. I have tried using the shade Blonde but it looks too light and it has a tiny shimmer.

Would I recommend this brow pencil? Definitely!

If you ladies don't know I still am on the search for a cheaper alternative to my HG makeup remover the Bioderma Sensibio H20 solution micellaire since it's really hard to find here locally. Though I did find it at Digitaltraincase.com, however it's too pricey.

I like the fact that the Ziaja Moisturizing Makeup Remover was formulated for those with sensitive skin, however this is practically useless in terms of removing eye make-up. I would recommend this to those ladies who wears very minimal makeup and does not use mascara. If you are interested in a makeup remover that removes all traces of makeup, you can purchase the Ziaja Duo-Phase Eye Make-up Remover which was specifically made for waterproof formulas, it retails for Php 275.00 at Beauty Bar.

I know that some of you ladies notice that there are days when you just feel tired and worn out. Days when you just feel lazy and sloppy, I have felt the same way on several occasions.

What I like about it...

* packaging of the travel size tube is convenient, it is easy squeeze out just enough product without spilling, unlike the full size tube which is made of harder plastic.

* has a really mild and pleasant scent

* hydrates and moisturizes my skin

* instantly makes my skin appear brighter and radiant

* gives me a healthy glow

* can be worn alone, if you don't have skin problems

* can be mixed with liquid foundation

* can be used as a moisturizer or makeup base, but I find this works well if set with the Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder or a light dust of any sheer translucent powder. The illuminating effect does not show if you set it with full coverage foundation like the Mac Studio Fix Powder.

* perfect for dry, normal, and combination skin types

* no irritation or allergies experienced

What I don't like...

* expensive

* not for ladies with oily skin, you will end up looking like a grease ball.

My rating: 4 / 5

I prefer mixing the Mac Strobe Cream with a liquid foundation that has light to medium coverage. I also sometimes use this as base or moisturizer then lightly set it with my Milani Multitasker Powder.

On the photo above, I used my Maybelline Mineral Power liquid foundation on the left side. Then I used the mixture of Mac Strobe Cream and Maybelline Mineral Power liquid foundation on the right side. You will notice that the strobe cream really gave the foundation a nice glowing finish.

Overall, I really like this illuminating moisturizer. I must say it's worth the hype, that is if you know how to use it. I would definitely recommend this to ladies that wants to have a dewy and glowing finish to their skin.

Mother's Day Gift Idea for Less

Mother's Day is coming and what better way to celebrate it, than to spend the day with your Mom. $25 is about Php1,000 pesos here in Philippines. And there's so much that I can do with that for my mom.

The first thing that popped in my mind is, take my mom to a spa for a day of relaxation. My mom is over 50 years old and she still works as a financial consultant. Apart from her regular job, she does the house chores like cooking, washing dishes, etc. I know for a fact that she works everyday, she's tired and she rarely gets to relax and pamper herself.

I just want my mom to have her "ME" time on mother's day. And "a day at a SPA" would be just wonderful for her. She will have the time to be stress-free, relaxed, be calm and not think of anything else.

I am thinking of treating her to a full body massage, facial services, and get her nails done. There's a spa that I really like, which offers great services at an affordable price. An hour of full body massage only costs Php250 pesos. After, the massage will be facial services that only costs Php300 pesos and lastly, treat her with manicure and pedicure services which only costs Php170 pesos. All that for less than $25 bucks!

And since I am a freelance makeup artist, I'm gonna make her look radiant and beautiful like she always is. Just in time for her to get ready for a dinner date with Dad. ^_^

Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Pink Melon Swatch

Here's a new pink lipstick I am currently loving. The Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Pink Melon. I got this during the Mary Kay Press Event last March and I just fell in love with the shade.

Mary Kay Creme Lipsticks have a nice formulation and I'm sure those who aren't fans of matte lippies will love this. It glides on easily to a smooth finish and it's super pigmented. In addition to that, I also like that it has a pleasant scent, an almost unnoticeable caramel-like smell.

I also love the sleek and sturdy packaging. It's not like the drugstore lipstick tubes made out of cheap plastic. The lipstick product itself doesn't wobble inside the tube, so I'm very pleased with that. I hate it when lipsticks starts to bend on the sides of the tube then ends up looking like a mess.

Here is a short tutorial and eye diagram for your reference.

Please make sure to blend your eye shadows well for a softer finish. I used the Sigma E25 eye brush for blending. I also used the Sigma Mrs. Bunny Travel Kit brush set for the rest of my makeup application.

I opted to use a matte black eyeshadow to line my upper line for a much softer definition. After I applied my mascara, I used one piece of the ELF natural lashes, and cut it in half. I applied it on the outer corner of my lashes to give that natural flick effect.

The final Spring look

You can actually wear this look even if it's not a party. I think it makes a good casual look this Spring and Summer.

Makeup Workshops by Noe of COLORISMYWEAPON

Hey ladies, especially to my fellow Cebuanas. I know that a lot of you have been asking me where you could possibly learn to put on makeup here in Cebu. Here's the answer you've been waiting for.

Noe is a fellow beauty blogger and Youtube beauty guru from Cebu. She's also a makeup artist and have a lot of experience working with different faces. So, I am sure you are in good hands.

The great thing about these classes are that they're catered to ladies who want to know how to apply makeup flawlessly and who are budget conscious. I don't blame people who do want to get value for their money given our current economic state. She devised 2 different classes; first is the Personal Basic Makeup Class and second, the "Get That Look" Makeup Class.

The Personal Basic Makeup Class will teach the student/s how to apply personal makeup from foundation to lipstick. She will also be diving into technicalities such as different brush uses, how to pick the right foundation and powder, how to shape and fill-in brows, and proper concealing and contouring. The class is more intensive which will run for a good 3 hours.

The "Get That Look" Makeup class is inspired by email requests she got from viewers who want to have a "live" makeup tutorial from her. This is a great class for those who have a little background with makeup and who want to perfect a certain look. The student/s will submit a photo of a look they wish to perfect and the whole class will be centered on how to achieve the look from foundation to lips. The class will run for 2 hours.

All the students of each classes will be asked to bring their own Brush Set and Foundation. Everything else will be provided by Noe and the Studio. There's a limit of 4 persons and a minimum of 2 per class. Upon special requests, one-on-one classes can be arranged. The class is exclusively held at Dolled Up Makeup Studio and Supply.

Mac Powder Blush in Harmony Swatch

I know some of my readers have been curious what Mac Blush in Harmony looks like. So, I'm sharing with you the photos and swatch of the product.

The shade looks brown with pinkish undertone. Some described it as a muted rosy beige, which could almost pass for a brown.

This has been my go to contouring blush for a while. But I always forget to take a swatch. I've had this in my kit since October 2012 and have been using it ever since. I love that it's matte and works really well with morena (brown) skin tone.

What I like about it...

* the shape and size of the applicator is perfect, I really like how it separates my lashes

* lengthens and volumizes my lashes really well

* clump - free

* doesn't flake

* holds the curl of my lashes really well

* definitely lasts for hours, I usually apply this at 8 in the morning till I get home at night around 7pm

* smudge proof, there are times that just rub my eyes forgetting that I have mascara on and this doesn't budge, smudge or smear at all.

* no irritation or itchiness experienced

* my lashes also did not become brittle, unlike cheaper ones I've tried before.

* very easy to remove, it comes off easily either by using makeup remover or facial cleanser

I did not curl my lashes when I applied the mascara so that you can really see the difference.

I honestly really love the formulation of this mascara. It lasts all day and it doesn't flake. Another major plus is it's unscented. Some mascaras just have that certain chemical smell every time you open the tube. Another thing that I noticed is that, the Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Mascara does not dry up fast. I opened this tube last January and have been using it almost everyday since then. It has already been 4 months and it has not dried up at all.

So, I would recommend this to you ladies, especially to those who love to try out high end mascaras. You will definitely get your money's worth.

Products I've Used Up and Mini Reviews

Haven't posted my product empties for a while, though I did finish up a lot of body and hair care products prior to this. I just think that some of these products are worth mentioning.

Well then, let's get this started. I've been using these products since last year so it took a little longer to empty out the tubes and bottles.

First up is the Bathology You Big Softy body lotion - I do have a review of this product HERE. Though I love this lotion, I won't be repurchasing it since I want to try body lotions from other brands. In addition to that I do still have two full sized bottles of Bath and Body Works body lotions to finish up.

Mac Brush Cleanser - I will probably repurchase this since it cleans up my makeup brushes really well and quick too. You can read the full review HERE. The price might be a little steep for a 235ml bottle. I bought this last year for Php680 and now I think it sells for Php750 at our local Mac counters. I want to try other brush cleaners like the Parian Spirit, to see how this one compares.

Human Nature Sunflower Seed Beauty Oil - Full review of this product can be found HERE. I've used this product in different ways. I have used it as a moisturizer on days when my face feels really tight and dry. I have also used it on my underarm, as well as a hair serum. Lastly, I used this to soothe my growing itchy
belly. I must say that this product has served me well and will definitely repurchase.

Human Nature Natural Feminine Wash in Chamomile Cool - The best feminine wash I have ever tried! I already repurchased my third bottle and will continue to do so. I always buy the 50ml size since this tiny bottle can last me up to 3 months and the best part, it only costs Php54.75. I have also tried the Chamomile Fresh variant but I like Chamomile Cool better. If you're the type who loves to go out and hunt the clubs in london for your dream guy, then you absolutely need this in your stash. It gives a cooling sensation that really soothes itchiness and keeps you fresh all day.

Vitress Heat Protect Cuticle Coat - I use this every time I want to straighten my hair. I like the smell of this product and how it makes my hair super soft afterwards. It has a thick consistency, which I find annoying at times since my palms feel sticky. Though this is a mediocre product, I won't be repurchasing. I want to buy a proper heat protectant like the ones from Tresemme.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick - I absolutely love this stuff! It's a multipurpose on-the-spot moisture that can soothe chapped lips, lighten marks and blemishes, and moisturize rough and dry skin. This can even lighten scars especially if you apply it on a wound or scratch that just healed. I will definitely keep repurchasing. I'm already about to finish my third tube. This is only available at Rustan's and it's always out of stock.

Alba Un-Petroleum Lip Care with SPF 15 in Tangerine - This is an average lip balm. Some ladies might find the scent too strong. I like that this isn't waxy at all. If you are the type who doesn't like lip balms that has a glossy finish, then this is for you. It cost Php99 pesos at Healthy Options.

Etude House Easy Brow Pencil in No. 1 - My favorite brow pencil to date! I just really like the shade and the formulation of this brow pencil. It glides smoothly and doesn't tug. You can read my full review HERE. I already repurchased and it costs only Php128 at our local Etude House stores.

Maybelline Watershine Pure Lipstick in B22 - This is my MLBB shade. The lipstick in the photo above is actually my second Watershine tube. So, I am not planning on repurchasing a third one. A lot of better formulations are already available in the market. You can read the full review HERE.

Lastly, the Pure Beauty Pomegranate Anti-Oxidant Eye Cream - This is the first Eye Cream I tried. I saw it at Watsons one day and only cost Php109 at the time so I bought it. Too bad this absolutely did nothing for me. I just continued using it so that it won't go to waste. This one's simply a total fail. I think it already has been discontinued.

Bea Alonzo The Mistress Inspired Makeup

I know this is way overdue, but I am only doing this as a favor for a friend. I have a friend from Florida, who recently watched "The Mistress" movie and just fell in love with Bea's Makeup. It spiked my curiosity as to why she loved the makeup so much. So, I watched the movie the next day.

Her look was constant all through out the movie, it was simple yet very elegant. She looked radiant and I understood why my friend loved her makeup. So, in an attempt to recreate the look, here's my take on it.

Step 1 Make your face look smooth and flawless but still look like skin. I first used a pea-sized amount of my Clarins Beauty Flash Balm as base, then followed by a thin layer of my Maybelline liquid foundation. I then lightened my dark under eye with the Maybelline liquid concealer. Since I have pimple scars, I covered it with the Maybelline mousse concealer. And finally set with a thin layer of the Mac Studio Fix powder.

Step 2 Define your brows. I filled in my brows using two shades. The main brow color is the Etude House Easy Brow Pencil in No. 1 then, I filled in the tips using Mary Kay Brow Definer Pencil in Brunette to make it look slightly darker.

Step 3 Apply eyeshadow. I only used two matte shades on my lids. I first applied Mary Kay eyeshadow in Sweet Cream all over my lids except the outer corner. Followed by Mary Kay eyeshadow in Hazelnut in the outer corner and the crease area. All you need to do is blend the edges of the Hazelnut eyeshadow bringing slightly higher from the crease. Then use Sweet Cream to highlight the brow bone area.

Also use the Hazelnut shade on the lower lash line in order to create a more defined eye.

Step 4 Line your upper lash line. I applied Prestige Waterproof Eyeliner in black as close to the upper lash line as much as possible. I opted not to create a thick line in order to make the look more natural.

Step 5 Line your waterline. I used a flesh toned (not white) eyeliner and applied it to my waterline in order to brighten my eye.

Step 6 Apply mascara. Curl your lashes, then apply mascara to both upper and lower lashes. I used Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero Smudge Lengthening Mascara.

Step 7 Contour and apply Blush. I created a nose line just a tiny bit, using the Hazelnut eyeshadow. I also used Mac Powder Blush in Harmony to contour my temple, cheeks and jawline. With a light hand, I then applied Mary Kay Powder Blush in Sparkling Cider to my cheeks (left side from the photo above).

Step 8 Apply Lipstick. Lastly, I applied Prestige Lipstick in Melba to complete the look. Don't forget to condition your lips first if you have dry, cracked lips.

This can make a very good everyday makeup. I was actually on my way to buy groceries when I attempted to try this look. hehehe

It's time for a new batch of lipstick swatches! While I was looking at my kit, I realized that I already had a few shades of the Wet n Wild Mega Last lipsticks. Good thing that two of the shades, my friend Raine recently bought was with me! (talk about perfect timing, lol)

You guys know how it is here, with the taxes and all. Retail prices for imported products especially on cosmetics are increased three to four times than it's original US retail price. These lipsticks are okay, considering the price. They are matte and very pigmented. I also like the fact that they are unscented. Some of the shades tend to flake and some don't. So, if you have dry lips, I'd advise you to condition your lips before applying these lipsticks.

I bought this together with my Revlon Super Lustrous in Fire and Ice lipstick, but I just recently opened it. So, here's the swatch. ^_^

Revlon Super Lustrous in Daring Pink

If you notice on the pic above, the color is a darker pink, kind of like a reddish mauve shade. I expected it to be really opaque since most Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks that has a creme finish are really pigmented. But I was surprised when I noticed that this had a little bit of shimmer to it. Good thing it's barely noticeable.

I do find this shade perfect for an everyday look. I also have a feeling that this might look even better on ladies with fair skin. ^_^

MAC Archie's Girls Collection Launch in Cebu

I had a blast on yet another beauty event held here in Cebu last March 16, 2013. Mac Cosmetics finally launched the Archie's Girls Collection and the products especially their lipsticks were literally sold out in the morning of the same day.

I was originally planning to buy the Betty Bright lipstick, however as I've mentioned earlier all lipsticks sold out even before the event proper began. Unfortunately I was not able to take swatches of the products, because I was so busy eating...LOL

MAC Cleanse Off Oil Review

You ladies should know by now, how important it is to remove your makeup before going to sleep. So, I've been really keen on trying out all sorts of makeup removers. This time around, I have been using the Mac Cleanse Off Oil to remove all of my makeup, since my favorite Bioderma makeup remover is running out.

Product Info from Mac Cosmetics

An industry-strength oil-based makeup remover that's gentle on the skin. Botanically formulated with oils of olive fruit, evening primrose and jojoba seed and absolutely 100 percent mineral-oil free. Massages onto the skin to loosen all makeup, including waterproof mascara. Emulsifies into a lotion-type liquid with water: rinses off easily, no tissues required - and no residue! Protects with vitamin E. Skin softening and conditioning. Good for all skin types.

What I like about it...

* definitely removes all traces makeup including waterproof mascara and eyeliner

* has a really mild, almost unnoticeable scent

* suited for sensitive skin

* no irritation or allergies experienced

* does not sting my eye

* leaves my skin soft and moisturized

* does not leave any oily residue after rinsing

* a little goes a long way

* has a spill proof cap

* the pump doesn't spurt too much product, so none of it will go to waste

What I don't like...

* expensive

My rating: 4.5 / 5

I used about 3 to 4 pumps of the product for one cotton pad

I only used two cotton pads to remove all of my makeup and about 7 pumps in total.

The best way to apply the Mac Cleanse Off Oil:

Take a few pumps on your hand (about 2 or 3 pumps worth) and gently massage over face to dissolve makeup. Then simply rinse with lukewarm water.

I used cotton pads this time for review purposes only. ^_^

I'm really not a fan of oil-based makeup removers, because I feel uncomfortable with the grease on my face. However, I am honestly very impressed with how well the Mac Cleanse Off Oil removed all of my makeup. That greasy feeling instantly disappears as soon as I rinse it away.

I haven't tried any other cleansing oil like the popular ones from Shu Uemura so I am not sure how this one compares. I would definitely recommend this, especially to those who wears a lot of makeup.

Bobbi Brown is Now Open in Cebu

Yes ladies, you read that right. Bobbi Brown is finally available here in Cebu! I know that it's definitely exciting for my fellow Cebuana beauty enthusiasts and I'm sure you're all dying to try out their products.

You can now feast your eyes on the array of shades Bobbi Brown has to offer. The Bobbi Brown stall is conveniently located in Rustan's Ayala Center Cebu.

During the official launch of Bobbi Brown last March 9, they offered a 20 minute one-on-one makeup lesson taught by their very own Makeup Artists. I was lucky enough to be taught by their Makeup Artist Trainer, Noel, who so kindly shared to me the tips and tricks of having a flawless looking skin. I definitely learned new techniques during that short session.

After the makeup lessons were over, they offered us these tasty, Red Velvet Cake Pops!

Of course the event would not be complete without a photo op!
