I thought I would happily move up the ladder and move from a technician to a sys admin or a network admin. I finally have the opportunity to earn a great amount of experience as a sys admin. I am learning that it’s not all what it’s cracked up to be. I think my unfortunate downfall in this particular situation is that I am being lead by a person who has no real regard for wanting to teach me and that expectations are much higher than what it is. It’s unfortunate but I am hanging in there. I hope all goes well. Cheers.

iBooks Categories are bjorked

There are more sub-categories that cannot be accessed.

Technical books are lacking

Technical books are severely lacking. If you want to learn CSS for instance, there is slim to none right now. I am positive that these books and titles will be added as we go on but at its current pace, it will take at least a year if not more for several major titles to land itself on the iBooks sales list. I’m not sure if this is due to publishing issues or pricing issues but when I’ve reached out to authors of several prominent CSS books they indicated to me that it would be on the iBooks store eventually but they were unsure of exactly when.

Marvel comics pricing is unfair

Marvel comics cost $1.99 per comic regardless of how old it is. I think that $.99 cents is a little more fairer. For comic books, I’ll read it once and only once. With music, it holds a lot more value since I can listen to an mp3 for however long I want to. With reading, I’m a one time, one hitter quitter type of guy.

Another thing about Marvel is that they don’t have a set release date. Like music comes out every Tuesday. At first it appeared Marvel was following a weekly schedule and then it started to get sporadic where it would be a week and two days or sometimes a week and three days. Then come to find out the latest release only included nine titles. I was disappointed with that.

Last but not least I really wish Marvel would release stuff from at least six months ago. I understand they don’t want to compete with themselves for new releases, that is a given but they can still release comics that were released six months ago. It makes absolutely no sense to keep those away from comic book fans. Especially fans like me who have almost no places locally to buy comic books.

You can download it here. The IntelliPoint bug: bug ID#: 554429. If you are apart of Microsoft Connect and could take a few moments to verify the bug and vote for it, I would really appreciate it. In any case, the platform preview 2 seems to be a lot faster. They still haven’t updated the UI to include back and forward buttons or even an address bar. Anyways give it a try.

Very interesting. I am making a birthday invitation for my son’s first birthday party and I uploaded a jpg to my server and sure enough when I tried to view it I got the red x as though it was missing. I first thought it was a size thing and then resized it obviously and tried again. The same thing happened. Then I finally realized oh crap, it is CYMK formatted so that it can be printed out. I then did a simple Google search and found that IE8 does not support this. I tried the pic in Opera and Safari with both working properly. Very weird. So if you run into this problem, at least you know why!

If you have an iPhone and a GMail account and you are not using the iPhones push feature, you are missing out. Instead of fetching email every single time you open up the Mail app, configure your iPhone to push your new email directly to your handset. It’s a simple process and requires that you have a Google GMail account.

If you don’t have an account you can create one here. Besides email you also have the option to sync/push your contacts as well as calendar. This is especially handy if you are in business. All you do is either set the calendar info on your iPhone or through the Google Calendar website and it will push the data each way. I use it for all of my appointments.

Here’s the link to show you how to setup and configure your iPhone with GMail’s push email.

Explanation of why you could not delete your old Google Reader tags/folders

Mihai P. has posted an answer to the question "some of my tags cannot be removed":

There were two problems:

We used to maintain a list of deleted tags. However, the place where that list was stored had an upper bound on how large data could get, so it was possible for the list to get to be too large, and you could no longer delete any tags. We changed it so that deleting tags would actually delete them (instead of adding them to the "deleted list"), which removed that limitation.

Once we did that, we ran into a secondary issue where old tags (created more than a couple of years ago) were not storing their "owner" in the same way, so the ownership check in the delete operation (to make sure the requesting user has permission to delete that item) was failing. We changed the delete operation to correctly determine the owner for these old tags too.

My Thoughts

A member of the Google Reader team kindly explained why many of us were having problems deleting old tags/folders from Google Reader. Apparently it is due to the way a) Google Reader dealt with deleting tags and b) ownership issues.

Very interesting and I think it’s great that they’ve finally come out and shed some light on a situation that has been going on for several months now. I really appreciate the fact that they went out of their way to explain why the problem was occurring and what they did to fix it.

I can say that I was able to finally delete that tag that I could not delete.
