They’re actually quite adorable in their little checkered uniforms (the owner says he was required to clothe them and they can work only a few hours a night). Is it a gimmick? Yes, but the owner says it’s a gimmick that is working.

Tourists who have seen the video of the monkeys waiting tables are coming to see them as part of their visit to Tokyo. The monkeys bring items to the table, as well as collect money. I’m not entirely certain I’d want a MONKEY bringing me my food or my eating … THINGS .. but it’s cute, I have to say.

If I wanted to talk to someone, couldn’t I pick up the phone?  Do I want to video email someone when I just woke up and I’m in my sweats, negotiating a big deal while sipping a diet coke/pepsi (you choose)?

No, not really.

I’m not saying this isn’t cool.  It is very cool.  But sometimes it just seems like technology doesn’t think.  If I want to talk to someone, the phone is still an option, isn’t it?  Or did it suddenly become uncool?  I don’t think so, because the iPhone is wicked cool, and Google has clearly jumped on that bandwagon with their new Google Phone.

So, I thought I’d come up with some useful applications for the gmail voice/video:

  • breaking up with someone via email just because more personal!  Yes, you can record a heartfelt kiss-off message and send it to them.  How’s that for closure?
  • no longer necessary to call mom/dad/gramma/grampa/bubba for their bday/other significant holiday. Now google allows you to stay one step removed from the family by simply sending a video email.  Way to go Google!
  • waste even more time at work trying to get that video email just right!  instead of blasting off a quick email in between real work, now you have the opportunity to turn it up a notch and really waste time at work.
  • become a video editor in your spare time. I can imagine recording a video, viewing it and thinking, wow, that sucked.  Erasing it and doing it again.  Spontaneous perfection – another great google concept.

Ok, I’m not trashing Google, I’m simply attempting to have a little fun.  Want to get that awesome Gmail video capability?  Go to the google page and get the information.

Seriously, this is the biggest waste of time I have seen in a while, as well as an obvious ploy to get some cash.  Give it up Turkey.
